What's your screen on time on your S5 in 2017 ? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am wondering if I am the only one to get between 3 and 4 hours of screen on time for one charge ? I'm using my original battery of 2800 mA (almost 4 years old now).
How much are you getting guys ?
I have nemesis reborn v4 ROM with phoenix kernel v13 but I got a similar battery life with the stock MM ROM.

Today I have for example 3 hours and 40 minutes of SOT.
Envoyé de mon SM-G955F en utilisant Tapatalk

Mostly about 4h 30min to 5h SOT in daily use. My record is 6h 30min (xXx NoLimits Rom + Boeffla Kernel).

What kind of usage did you have with the phone to get such a screen of time (I mean 6 and a half) ?
I believe if I get less than 4 hours is that my battery is too old...

I was surfing on internet and using messenger on wifi.

I'm running Xtreme Dynamic Kat (4.4.2) with every battery improvement I can think of (Xposed Amplify etc). Light social media use with some email, chrome, and less than an hour of Spotify, and I get at best 4 hours SoT. It usually would project out to about 3:15 hrs. on most days I would guess.
My "android system" and "screen" usage typically have about the same percentage at the end of the day. I try to keep my screen dimmed and use as many dark themes as possible. It blows my mind these people who say they can get 5 hours or more. I can't imagine what that's like or how to get there. Makes me want to get a new phone

Here is what I get with nemesis reborn v4 with phoenix kernel (the battery life looks the same on stock MM ROM).
I'm trying also to understand how some people are getting more than 6 hours ! I have greenify + amplify + xposed 87.1 flashed on my ROM.
And without all these kind of stuff, I have less than 4 hours anyway...
Maybe some ROMS like lineage or cyanogenmod helps.
For the health of the battery, some applications like ampere meter or Ampère says that my battery health is good.

You seem to have the same battery life as me but I'm running marshmallow 6.0.1 with nemesis reborn v4. My android system use to consume 8% of my battery per a charge and my screen 26%.
I can only say that your android system doesn't seem very normal. For this problem, try to boot into recovery mode and swipe cache and make a factory reset. I saw that this method helped some people.

It's impressive ! I get 3 1/2 - 4 hours instead of 6 hours of SOT. Did you use stock rom 6.0.1 and stock kernel 3.4.0 ?

As I mentioned above. I use xXx NoLimits Rom (which is basically stock 6.0.1 deoxydated with small tweaks) + Boeffla Kernel. I have Xposed installed, but I don't use Greenify, Amplify or PowerNap.

Which ROM?

Just thought I'd provide an update. Still running Xtreme Dynamic Kat 4.4.2 on my G900A. Replaced the battery with a OEM style 2800mAh one from Anker and it has given me about 50-80% more screen on time and overall battery life. It seriously has made a difference compared to my original 2.5 year old OEM battery. I still get high Android System usage, however I believe that is directly correlated to my use patterns (lots of Spotify streaming and Hulu casting with the screen off). If I stick to web based activities I can get 6 hours of screen on time now. Incredible!

Hi, thanks for your answer. If your android system consume more than your screen, I suggest you to do a wipe cache and remove your Dalvik cache with a custom recovery.

Hey fellow S5ers I don't really take notes of how many hours of SOT I get per day but I'm sure that I can get double that or even more if I turn off 4G and WiFi. Not to mention that my battery is already 1+ years old so if i change it I'd get a lot more. Try to live without any kind of Internet for one day and you'll see insane numbers Just having the Internet switched on without even using it drains too much battery but i can't live offline xd

[Q] Nexus 4 Battery Life [vs S4]

Hey Guys,
Firstly i apologize if this has been asked before but here is my question:
Currently i had the chance to use the Galaxy S IV i9500 and after having using it for a month i found that the battery life is pretty good. In my usage of surfing the web, youtube, playing a few games i usually get a day of standby time with around 3-4 hrs of screen on time. Sometimes the charge carries over to the second day.
However the Galaxy S IV is not mine and i am looking to buy the nexus 4. As compared to the S4 i know the major differences are the screens, batteries and cameras. I know the screen has some great colour calibration tweaks which make colors pop and the sharpness is pretty good on nexus 4 screen so i am not worried. The camera is not as good as on the S4 but i can live with that since i can get the job done with my primary camera. However i am mainly concerned about the battery life. I want to know if on my current usage pattern (as mentioned above) will the nexus 4 last me through a day with 3-4 hrs screen on time? Also i have found that using PA ROM with FRANCO kernel doubles the battery life? Is this true and if so how does battery life with the setup compare to stock ROM and kernel?
Once again i appologize if this has already been answered somewhere and thanks to everyone for help.
Cheers
Now I'm using CM10.1 RC5 + franco.kernel r151 and i get 3 hours of screen on using 3g and 5+ hours using WiFi, but it really depends on your usage.

With stock rom u will have very poor battery life. My Galaxy s3 lasted 1hour more screen time than my Nexus. and The Galaxy S4 is even better than GS3.
With Franco + UV u should have some decent Battery Life but not as Good as Galaxy S3 or S4
This should've been posted in the Q&A thread. Anyhow, after all i've heard and read i was pretty surprised by the battery life on the nexus 4 when i actually got it. I get between 4-5h of screen-on on a 1 day uptime. I'm using rooted stock rom and stock kernel. I have autosync for gmail, i use apps like whatsapp..basically the only thing that i have turned off and that i don't use is google now, oh, and i don't play 3d games on my phone. I think you should be able to get 4h screen-on on a charge using stock rom without a problem.

I plan on using PA with FRANCO. you think it could be on par with s4 battery life?as a side note are there any extended battery cases for nexus 4 which can increase battery life?

Ya that's the type of things i read around too, and was expecting horrible results, and actually was quite surprised.
I'm not sure if it's related to me being in a good reception area or something.. One thing i forgot to mention was i don't use facebook , but i really use my nexus 4 for everything else, browsing, gmail, reading xda, i'm a heavy music listener, whatsapp, flipboard, i also take a lot of pictures, especially photospheres..
In comparison, a friend of mine uses facebook, has everything always running, google now etc.. , gps always ON, all apps can access location... He also plays real racing 3 often, and he gets 3-3.5h screen-on on a 15-20h uptime.
One tip i can give you, i use greenify for most of the apps that don't need push services, or that i don't use frequently, and during standby, for example 6h of sleep, i lose 2-3% of battery.

If tht is on stock rom it seems to be pretty good? also are you on 3g entire time and what is your main usage? thanks for the info!
I am stock rooted with stock kernel. I get 4-5hrs sot while on cellular data and 5-6hrs on wifi. What each individual gets is gonna be subjective to location while on a cellular network. A weaker signal will eat more battery and may just give you 3-4hrs sot.

I am not sure unless someone here has both phones and stock if they can accurately answer your question. Also you are comparing a 2100mah battery N4 to a 2600mah battery in the S4. As a N4 owner I have had to say that after tweaking for a couple months I have found a nice setup giving me 3-4 hrs screen on time. If battery life is most important to you I would go with a phone with a removable battery.

Thnx mate. Appreciated for the help!
if I stick with like casual texting and phone calls, and wifi or 3G, I get really decent battery life 4.5 hours usually, but I use the phone to listen to music and well that just keeps it awake for such a long time meaning i get like 2 hours.
Nexus 4 Stock 4.3
Usage: Email and Hangout over wifi, phone calls and few camera clicks.

S7 Edge Dual Sim (Duos) has worse battery than single sim? 935FD

Hi,
Last year i bought a Galaxy S6 Dual sim (Duos) in Russia, and battery life was terrible, even when using it with only 1 sim, it would need recharging after 8 hours with normal use. Way worse than the single sim S6. I thought it was defective so i changed it, and then i got the same problem with the new one. I ended up changing it all together for a Nexus 6P.
I really miss dual sim functionality. So this year i bought again an S7 Edge dual sim (935FD with the Duos logo at the back) from Russia. I am seeing only 4 hours screen on time with low brightness. While most people in the forum report 7 hours without even trying.
The other thing that pissed me is that within 24hs the screen was already scratched. I only put it in my pocket with some coins and a key. The same pocket where the Nexus 6P was for a year without a single scratch.
I am wondering if there is a pattern here with Dual Sim versions, or with Russian phones in general? Is the battery lower in Dual Sim versions? Do they use cheaper materials? Or is the software worse? Or do i just have bad luck?
Cheers
Bad luck

So useful that comment
Ontopic: I have dual version and I even get 6h SoT or I guess more if I try, usually I get like 4h and have battery for almost a day and a half, I'd say I'm a medium-heavy user playing a lot and using a lot of waze (so screen on with gps active) while using Bt music... so maybe there's something wrogn with ur devices
I don't use any extra optimization and my phone is fully stock
Hey Qberto, do you have 935FD? What country does the phone come from, do you know?
I purchased SM-G935FD Duos and i got 7 hours of SOT..
day to day usage with 75% brightness / sync (fb chat / viber / whatsapp /gmail /skype/fiver/) / Wifi mobile data 4G /always on screen and i got 6 hours SOT

WTF i struggle to get more than 3 hours now. I wonder if the problem is the russian version? Or is it me with my heavy usage?
I have to say i use google maps a lot (gps) because i travel. Maybe this affects my battery life a lot? not sure.
I get 6hrs SOT at 20% battery left. This is the norm for me tested out for a few days then don't look at the battery life anymore. Seems pretty good for me.
Using FD version with 1 sim and 1 sd card.
Autobrightness on
Always on LTE and GPS always on
Auto sync on
Always On Display is On
Mainly use for some games, internet, messaging and chatting app
But yeah using lots of navigation app will lessen your battery life though I can't say how much.

Yep that one, I don't know where it come from (if there's a way to know, tell me and I tell u xD).... and recently the battery life is decreasing, not so much but is notable, I blame google/samsung apps because appears an "Android System" always as third place, just below waze and screen, but anyway I get like 4.5h SoT... my phone is just charged but today I got 4h57m SoT with... like 30% battery left
I am running stock firmware G935FXXU1APD1. on My 935FD.
Today i got 1:20hs SOT with 50% battery left, and 5hs total time since unplugged. Using only 1 sim card, 3g (no 4g), medium brightness.
I really dont know why battery life is so bad compared to what others report. I use spotify a lot to listen to music (not streaming, only downloaded songs), Maybe this kills my battery?
Other than that i dont know why i struggle to finish the day with the phone. It is supposed to be the best battery out there
w/o root is so hard to find what things are eating ur battery but to start u can go to battery > battery usage (after a full charge and before u plug it again) to try to see something xD
look, for example this is my usage yesterday (and todays morning), is not usual usage because yesterday didn't go to work, but get a good SoT and gaming time anyways
I left this one here because the forum says is too large to upload xD, but the app usages are as attachment below

Your problem is the firmware version. APD1 and up ruin battery life for everybody, not just you. Use Odin to downgrade to APC8 or lower. Warrantly will not be affected.

This is my battery,I think that my battery drains very fast and I don't know what to do.
I use it normal I'm not playing or stuff like that but I normally get 9 to 10 hours of battery and I'm pretty sure is not good, what do you think?

Guys, i tried resetting the whole phone to see if it helped. It didn't help at all.
I also did a test and realized that the phone eats 15% overnight without doing anything. Normally i heard it should be draining only 2% instead of 15%.

You need to change the stock firmware man, making a factory reset won't help. Flash APC8 base with ODIN

I hate the idea of having to downgrade just to make a phone work normally. And the whole day i will have to spend reinstalling everything again....
And i am not even 100% sure that will fix the issue.

I use Temasek as my rom with greenify, amplify, kernel audiotor , appopsxposed and tasker.
On custom kernel Clarity r26 (permissive)
My brightness is set to 12 when I am indoor or after 5 pm. From 10 am to 5 pm I have automated brightness to 15 when outdoor.
Once my screen goes off wifi or data is turned off. My phone goes to Airplane mode from 12 am to 7 am. Once I am home wifi is turned on and data service is disabled.
I am sure most around here knows how to use amplify and greenify so I wont go about explaining the same.
With appopsxposed I have disabled all the location permissions of all the apps including play services except tasker as I dont use them.
In the next post I will post my kernel settings. I have tried and tested this multiple times and the results have been more or less same.

OMG are you serious ? This works on a depleted battery as well ? You can get 10 hours of SOT with a newer battery. And use Kernel audiutor and make sure you are using clarity r26 with permissive.

I think i can get upto 6 hrs SOT with continuous usage. If I use for about 2hrs and keep my phone away and take it back I found about 20% drain within half n hour.I am going to replace my battery. But ur method to increase battery life is awesome. Thank you.I will use your tweaks with newer battery.

To ensure you dont drop much while device not in use ... You should use amplify and greenify all apps that you have installed. Kill Google play service and ensure the apps you greenify are not waking up.

Terrible battery life

attery life after 7.0 update is terrible, first beta was great I got 6-7 hour of SOT, now I get only 2 hours, what about you guys ? (4G always on, AOD on, internet browsing, messenger, light gaming)
That's suprising. I am getting great battery life since Nougat 7.0
Stock firmware.
Around 110 apps installed
No battery saving apps (such as Greenify).
No apps are optimized for battery saving.
Always on Display enabled.
Auto Brightness Enabled
GPS turned on
Sync turned on

Awesome! It seems some people are just unlucky. Or maybe they have apps using a lot of battery.

lol yeah maybe the guy who posted should drop accu battery app to begin with. :/ don't know.
My battery life is on par with my original March 2016 MM release, which is pretty decent. I did have huge battery season at first on nougat, but removing the built in news app seemed to resolve this. Not sure if that was coincidence though.
Which rom are you guys using? I have 7.0 BTU. Battery life is average, not better than MM. 4.5 hours.

That's obnoxious man. Mine is not even draining 1%/h when it's standby.
Generally I'm so satisfied with s7e battery, whole day with data/WiFi turned on, still remains like 20% when I'm going to bed.

Having the same issue. unplugged at 100% and went to sleep for 5 hours. came back and the phone was at 72%. Not normal at all for me.
standby is great but while using the phone the battery drains a lot more in nougat than marshmallow, even the hd and fhd options seems useless coz they don't help a lot with saving the battery. the moment i unlock my device and start using it the battery starts to drop immediately .may be need to visit service centre.
Using the device for more than 1 hour and its showing 38 minutes moreover no detail of usage is it a bug? Fee minutes ago it was showing correct

Best Kernel-Balance Between Battery and Performance

Which is The Best Kernel For you with Oxygen OS or OOS Based Rom's For Best Battery Life and Performance Balance?
I used FrancoKernel But I Don't know why I am Getting only around 3.5 Hours of SOT When others are getting 10Hours
In the Stock Kernel and OxygenOS I am Getting Around 4 to 4.30 Hours of SOT
well bud, you should know how to use a smartphone. there is no way on the earth that OP5 lasts about 3hours. No offend, you should consider switch to iPhone. Android is a different thing. you should know how to get rid of wakelock, what consumes the battery the most, or what keeping your phone awake etc. No kernel or rom can help you.
Stock, don't be fooled, there is no kernel that give you extra hours of battery life or rocket speed.. that's just placebo or bored users that they need to flash something.
Oneplus 5 is quick enough, apps opening instantly, to where you want to push it more?
Even if you find some way how you throttle down performance to gain couple of minutes on battery where is the point, when on the end you put
your phone on charger that in couple of minutes give you power for another day?
just enjoy the phone..that's my opinion

I Got your Point,Thank You for the Information
I Just Switched From Iphone 5S Maybe That's Why i have Devoleped this Laziness to Not to Look into Advanced things,I will Research more
I Used to Use Android in 4.0
There is something else that is draining your battery, such as an app, it's not the kernel
I flashed a lot on my elephone p9000. No need to on op5 stock experience is perfect
SimpleGX has very good feedback regarding battery saving and stock performance.
I'm currently giving it a try but it's early for me to comment properly.

What a negative bunch of responses.. I use franco, naptime and get 5hrs plus SoT easily.
You don't need to be a power user to have android. Stock is fine, but modded is better (this is xda after all).
Fresh install latest OOS, keep installed apps to a reasonable amount (which do you -actually use-?)
And then... Use. If you are a business user, expect less SoT. If you only watch YouTube on wifi, expect longer SoT.
You go and most importantly, explore! OP5 is a wonderful phone!

This or stock. I've tried all the other kernels (with a friend who also has a OnePlus 5). Stock beats everything else in terms of battery by at least an hour of SOT in daily usage, more if you use the whole battery in one sitting. Nobody seems to have a straight answer as to why this is. Simple gx stays close enough to stock that battery life is pretty much identical to stock. I have no idea why battery on Boeffla, blu_sparks, elemental x, Franco, etc isn't as good as stock, doesn't make any sense to me. Same results on 2 different phones, but ymmv I guess?
