Hey Guys,
Firstly i apologize if this has been asked before but here is my question:
Currently i had the chance to use the Galaxy S IV i9500 and after having using it for a month i found that the battery life is pretty good. In my usage of surfing the web, youtube, playing a few games i usually get a day of standby time with around 3-4 hrs of screen on time. Sometimes the charge carries over to the second day.
However the Galaxy S IV is not mine and i am looking to buy the nexus 4. As compared to the S4 i know the major differences are the screens, batteries and cameras. I know the screen has some great colour calibration tweaks which make colors pop and the sharpness is pretty good on nexus 4 screen so i am not worried. The camera is not as good as on the S4 but i can live with that since i can get the job done with my primary camera. However i am mainly concerned about the battery life. I want to know if on my current usage pattern (as mentioned above) will the nexus 4 last me through a day with 3-4 hrs screen on time? Also i have found that using PA ROM with FRANCO kernel doubles the battery life? Is this true and if so how does battery life with the setup compare to stock ROM and kernel?
Once again i appologize if this has already been answered somewhere and thanks to everyone for help.
Cheers
Now I'm using CM10.1 RC5 + franco.kernel r151 and i get 3 hours of screen on using 3g and 5+ hours using WiFi, but it really depends on your usage.

With stock rom u will have very poor battery life. My Galaxy s3 lasted 1hour more screen time than my Nexus. and The Galaxy S4 is even better than GS3.
With Franco + UV u should have some decent Battery Life but not as Good as Galaxy S3 or S4
This should've been posted in the Q&A thread. Anyhow, after all i've heard and read i was pretty surprised by the battery life on the nexus 4 when i actually got it. I get between 4-5h of screen-on on a 1 day uptime. I'm using rooted stock rom and stock kernel. I have autosync for gmail, i use apps like whatsapp..basically the only thing that i have turned off and that i don't use is google now, oh, and i don't play 3d games on my phone. I think you should be able to get 4h screen-on on a charge using stock rom without a problem.

I plan on using PA with FRANCO. you think it could be on par with s4 battery life?as a side note are there any extended battery cases for nexus 4 which can increase battery life?

is it due to a firmware update? as i heard that initially the battery life was not too good with average of 2.5 hrs screen on time!

Ya that's the type of things i read around too, and was expecting horrible results, and actually was quite surprised.
I'm not sure if it's related to me being in a good reception area or something.. One thing i forgot to mention was i don't use facebook , but i really use my nexus 4 for everything else, browsing, gmail, reading xda, i'm a heavy music listener, whatsapp, flipboard, i also take a lot of pictures, especially photospheres..
In comparison, a friend of mine uses facebook, has everything always running, google now etc.. , gps always ON, all apps can access location... He also plays real racing 3 often, and he gets 3-3.5h screen-on on a 15-20h uptime.
One tip i can give you, i use greenify for most of the apps that don't need push services, or that i don't use frequently, and during standby, for example 6h of sleep, i lose 2-3% of battery.

If tht is on stock rom it seems to be pretty good? also are you on 3g entire time and what is your main usage? thanks for the info!
I am stock rooted with stock kernel. I get 4-5hrs sot while on cellular data and 5-6hrs on wifi. What each individual gets is gonna be subjective to location while on a cellular network. A weaker signal will eat more battery and may just give you 3-4hrs sot.

I am not sure unless someone here has both phones and stock if they can accurately answer your question. Also you are comparing a 2100mah battery N4 to a 2600mah battery in the S4. As a N4 owner I have had to say that after tweaking for a couple months I have found a nice setup giving me 3-4 hrs screen on time. If battery life is most important to you I would go with a phone with a removable battery.

Thnx mate. Appreciated for the help!
if I stick with like casual texting and phone calls, and wifi or 3G, I get really decent battery life 4.5 hours usually, but I use the phone to listen to music and well that just keeps it awake for such a long time meaning i get like 2 hours.
Nexus 4 Stock 4.3
Usage: Email and Hangout over wifi, phone calls and few camera clicks.

OK so i installed almost every ROM on there and here is what i found.
TOP.
:good: CleanGB ---- Takes the crown, super fast battery charge in less then 45minutes the battery is full. Over a period of 8 hours in stand by(as i sleep) the battery did not drop at all.
CM9 ---- Took over 2.5 hours to charge the battery, in 8 hours it dropped 12% battery life.
CM7 --- Charged in 1.7 hours and dropped 17% battery in 8 hours.
The rest were terrible, I would not even bother.
All configuration were the same. Everything off (wifi, gps, etc)
After all i installed CleanGB again at the end. And guess what in the past 8 hours battery did not at all in standby. My phone last 3 days on the same battery charge again, with normal to moderate use.
This was the same battery same settings.
Let me know if you guys found something else.
GUI experience:
CleanGB is cool and simple, however i wish they would upgrade to Android 4
CM9 has an really cool interface but i can not tolerate the battery drain issue.
CM7 is the worst of the two, not so great GUI and bad battery life.
If you still think im crazy install CleanGB and see for yourself. CM9 just needs to focus on the battery drain.
CleanGB is more focused on the phone working as it should and they did that really well. :good:

CM10 isn't horrible, I think it's a step above CM9 honestly, Mine charges over night so i don't know how much it would drain. during a day of moderate use (texting, reading XDA and what not) I'm generally about 65% or so (If not higher)

The People's ROM. It's as good as CleanGB (ran that for several months) and is based off the latest official release (FC09).
My one personal cheat is to use the CleanGB kernel with TPR, so that may be why I get fantastic battery life.

Never going to happen. CleanGB (and TPR) are both stock TouchWiz based ROMs and it's not too likely that Sprint will offer an ICS update for the Epic.

ROFL!!! :good:
As to the topic, I have seen it posted by a massive number of users, that CM7 had much better battery life than CM9.
In fact, the number one reason I saw posted as to why people went back to CM7, after checking out CM9, was battery life.

This 100%
I' am on Cut & Paste Rom FC09 and this has given be best battery life as of today. I had clean GB earlier (sometime back) after which i tried all the other Roms (AOKP - ICS, MIUI - ICS, RandomRom 5.1) and then decided to try C&P and man this rocks !
I have got a battery life of 2 days with a talk time (voice call) of 4 hours and thats the best i have seen till now among all of the Roms on my phone
legendary.mtd + gps fix is just as good as cleanGB plus it has the 15 toggle mod
try AOKP, people says it has better bettery life than CM9, so you can keep the "cool interface" while saving battery lol. Me myself never bother with battery as long as it last more than 1 hours. Always carrying one of those portable charger, If the battery is low then charge it haha.

Hmm perhaps I need to have didhiy do the kernel fix. There's a fix on the nexus s since people had the same problem. So far, I've only seen you and another person on the epic having that issue, which is odd. Talk to him though, since he fixed it somehow. His name is popssracer.

In my personal experiences, the newest Cut & Paste ROM has AMAZING battery life. I can get over a day easily at home all day with no charge, and maybe 15-24 hours out in the world (I'm a professional touring musician, so there's times where I have NO charging source at all).
What I noticed also has equal or better battery life to TouchWiz are MIUI ROMs. If you can manage your power usage and turn off data services when you aren't using them, I could EASILY get days out of battery on 2.1.6.

I would say if you know how to manager your data when you aren't using it EVERY rom can get great battery life... even cm10...
I got a Nexus 4 yesterday, and so far it has been excellent. Really fast and has all the features I want. The battery life is pretty poor though. I am at 28% with a screen on time of only about 2 hours. The total time is about 8 hours. I haven't been using it a lot. The main thing consuming battery seems to be Nova Launcher for some reason. I have it on my Nexus 7 and it doesn't decrease battery life at all, but it seems to use a lot more on here. It was at 24% according to GSam Battery Monitor.
I just followed a bunch of instructions for increasing battery life from various websites so I will see how it goes. I now have all the Google syncing disabled, location services off and brightness on auto.
Is there anything I should be doing? Why is Nova Launcher's usage so high?
Thanks,
EDIT: Could it be the widgets I am using? I have two Gmail inbox widgets, the messaging widget and the circle battery widget.
Same here though I'm not sure its nova, my battery got as bad as yours when i rooted to stock.

it could, or any other apps you have working in the background. it can also be how you use the device. but before you assume anything about your battery life, give it 3-4 battery cycles before it normalizes.

im ocd about that too, lol. the back button to kill is one of my favorite custom rom features. also, autostarts and greenify are both great apps to make sure that you have mich less ctap opening in the background. anyways, im a heavy user normally, battery life on the nexus 4 id never call bad. usually i get 3.5-5.5 hours screen on time, depending on use. but then again, i use a custom kernel thats optimized for performance and battery. but, stock rom/kernel isnt bad on battery.
I too Force Close all the social networking apps before sleeping and turn wifi off. And i daily get around 4 hrs of OST. Will attach pics later to show. So to get 4 hrs OST you need really need to have a custom kernel. Just optimize your usage and you are fine with the stock kernel.
Phone is totally stock. Not rooted. And i got 6 pages on Apps installed.
I even used to clear RAM every now and then but I just stopped doing it as I couldn't find it doing anything better.
The battery life is much better now. Yesterday when I got back from school it was at 40% or so, and today it was at 68%.
Gets better after a few battery cycles. My battery life was average, so I rooted and with matr1x kernel it's snappier and better battery.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
i'm stock and my battery life was shockingly bad on the default settings until yesterday when i tried some fixes and they have made things much better.
looking at my N4 right now, i'm still on 58% after 22 hours. that's after several voice calls, some browsing & reading emails, GPS navigation using Maps, a couple of skype video calls, wake-up alarms etc.
basic fixes as follows:
- screen brightness right down to maybe 10-15%
- data off when not being used, ditto location services
- NFC and BT off.
- i've left wifi on as it doesn't seem to take much battery if it's not being used.
that's all! after charging last night, i woke after 6 hours or so and was amazed to see it had dropped only 1-2%, so apparently nothing is waking it from sleep.
One thing that really improved my battery life (when I had a Nexus 4) and something I tell to anybody with poor battery life, is to go into maps, go to settings, location settings, and uncheck "report from this device". If you've got the app "wakelock detector" just watch the wakelocks from maps almost entirely disappear. It nearly doubled my battery life at the time.

Hey thx man that didn't work but it did start me down the path to fix my problem.
I found out it had something to do with my GPS options its in settings and location access WiFi and GPS location options i checked it off and now i am getting 1 hour screen on time for every %10 if you do the math i have about 8hours of screen on time! If you would like to risk such things as unlocking bootloader, rooting, installing custom ROM and kernel, then it'd be easier for you.
Personally, I've found codefireX ROM and faux123 kernel to be battery friendly and very responsive, but of course you've got to be a bit fixed on such things as playing with your devices and getting fun from it to do that

I takes about 10 hours, the lesson download much battery? when I go to sleep I lose almost 15% of battery. Any solution?: (
Battery life is terrible.
I refuse to do what my friend does:
Turn vibrate off
Turn screen brightness to lowest
Phone is always connected to Edge - unless he's using the Internet - then he switches back to Edge
Syncs his email every 15 minutes (pull not push!!!)
Always 'freeing ram' and exiting apps
His life sucks.
I am the opposite. Full brightness, 4g , push mail for my 4 emails, exchange server (email and calendar) for work and so on.
I manage this by always having a spare battery that I charge with my battery charger dock lol.
Will be doing the same thing once I can get one for my S4
I know, so far it's been below expectations for me too - I ordered a portable energy bank from Amazon this morning, and I guess I'll just carry it around with me from now on.. What a shame - the phone is extremely powerful too..
Install gsam battery monitor and let it monitor your phone and see what is causing wake locks. Also let the battery go through 3-4 battery cycles before you start comparing battery life.
That'd weird. Isn't the 9500 or the 9505?
My battery exceeds my expectations by quite a lot. Best battery I've had on a smartphone so far, and I've had a few.
Where my 920 died, this one still has 50-70% remaning.
Thats with push mail, air view, air gestures, wifi, mobile data, auto brightness, screen rotation, sync, gps and multiwindow on constantly.

Seriously? how much is the battery life? can post some pics?
I am also curous how many hours does it take for the battery to reach 15% and how much screen on time do you get. Please post a few screenshots!
After a day i have like 30% left. Screen on time is about 2h.

battery life is not a issue here I don't think I can get to 15% easily most day I do not but I will try to get some pics posted after an all day use no promises I manage to be busy a lot lol.
I am constantly using it.

I'm trying it right now. It takes a bit more than two days for the app to learn certain usage patterns. I still have to wait 8 hours until the actual battery savings start. Will report as soon as I have it working.

I get similar battery life as well. Sometimes 4 ton6 hours screen times
16 hour days
I found my battery life improved when I got rid of a poor quality 32gig media card and used another spare old16gig one.
I also dumped corrupted mp3 files and videos and got new ones.
I think poor sd card quality and bad mp3 files are partially responsible for lower battery life.
Sent from my GT-I9500
just got mine
first charge cycle
4 hours on screen
total 8 hours
15% left
not very good but i think it will get better

So far with battery saving on it seems that nothing changed... Will test it further with daily use. But battery life here, even before using the app was not bad by any means.

Yep. I'm really impressed with this phone s battery life, not too far from the note 2 battery life but not quite there.

Hi,
Now that the Note Pro 12.2 has been out for a while now, what kind of battery life are you getting?
How much Stand By and On-Screen Time are you getting?
charge time
I would also appreciate if people can share how long it's taking to charge from 0-100%. Thanks.
I used mine quite heavily on Friday night and Saturday. Probably 8 hours in total. I still had 65% battery left. I did root and removed a lot of bloatware.
From my usage so far, looks to be about 6-8hrs screen on time.
This isn't very specific I realize but battery life seems considerably better than my old nexus 10 and recharging is also much faster.

What about charging it?
It is time for my old original LTE tab to go.I want an LTE, but like my old tab, Verizon is picking it up, and development on the verizon version might be sparse. My factory Tab, will only charge with a certain voltage. The Devs wrote a script to override that on it.
Does it charge in the car? If so, what amp is it? Do you have to have special charger or will it work on one of the 2 amp chargers, say for an Iphone? Have you tried it?
Thanks
standby is fantastic; as is video watching (dont' have exact total time but I think 3 hours of video watching used approx 30% battery).
-
however this game I was playing, symphony of eternity, really kills the battery. 2 hours used approx 45% (wish I had exact figures). Mind you the game has gotten old but I want to finish it (I play a few hours on trips - so started it approx 1.5 years ago; but finally near the end).

So far very impressed with the battery
Sent from my SM-P900 using XDA Premium HD app
I have the sm-p905 LTE version and i’m very impressed with the battery life so far.
on time screen that the tablet actually was on is right now 9h59m and battery still on 20%
watched in the 10 hours about 4h15m video's
transferred about 6 gb files with wifi direct
transferred about 19 gb files from my portable hd to the tablet with usb 3.0
then browsing, facebook, chat, ....
i must say all the apps i don’t use i have turned out permently.
4G was always turned on during the session, total time off the ac now is 1 day an 1h
my device isn’t rooted.
when the battery is completely empty, i’ll charge it and let you know how long it takes. First time i charge it .
I'm also very impressed with my Note 12.2 battery... I would say it can do 1 hour screen time per 10% of battery. I replace my third generation Ipad with this tablet... I the only thing iPad is better right now is battery life on stanby... Apple has done an excellent job on this side because it's way better on the iPad, even if I keep the sync on all the time for emails, contacts, calendar and other apps.
On the Notepro 12.2, if I keep the wifi off while on stanby, it's good (not excellent)... but if I keep it on all the time, I have to charge my tablet every 2 days. While it's off, I can get 3-4 easily when my regular weekday usage.
I've watched a complete film of 2 hours film on my tablet a few days ago... streamed from my Plex server to the Android Plex app on the tablet... and I lost around 20% of battery only... which is excellent.
By the way, I have the wifi only version (Exynos CPU).

That's a bit odd. I am not using mine much at all at the moment, maybe half an hour a day and it's now on day 8 and still 30% left. My Wi-Fi is off when in sleep and I don't turn it off when not using it.

The battery is good, if I dont use it, I just turn off to save battery. Otherwise i need to charge everyday (wifi on, sync, games, web, no sleep mode), now I can use few days in a row on single charge, depends on what I'm doing on it. This is not a smartphone/cellphone, so he dont need to be everytime on
Discuss your battery life here.
Anyone have any early reports on battery life
A user on Reddit has one and did a first rundown.
7.5 hrs sot on overall 8.5 hrs on a first charge.
Still to be seen how the standby is, but all reports look for it to be better than expected which is good news. Also he doesn't notice any ram issues. First impressions are good.

Damn fine if you ask me. Better than my note 4. I'm surprised as hell. I never believe the improved efficiency and optimization stuff but somethings working.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
I personally am not that worried about run time on the battery. My Note 4 has great battery life for me and I would expect the Note5 to be good. Quick charge really makes a big difference and the recent introduction of quick charge external battery packs means that I will not have to really worry that much about battery life. Others may have a different point of view.
One thing that really worries me is the internal battery. I have owned the Note2, 3, and 4. I have had to replace the battery on both the Note2 and Note3 when the original battery failed. I give my old phones to other family members and sooner or later the batteries always start to fail. On the Note3 it took a little over a year and a half. Probably about the same time period on the Note2. If you go to youtube you can watch some videos that show you how to replace the battery on the S6. It looks like a miserable project. Nothing I want to worry about. Finally, I am personally offended by the throw away connotations of a smartphone with an internal battery. With a glass screen protector and a case, these phones can still be like new after a year or so of use. It just seems wrong to build a product that you know is going to fail for as trivial a reason as the battery.

Wow. Great news.
What apps do you have installed/downloaded and which ones did you disable? Do you have all the Spen stuff enabled?
Can you show a screenshot of your apps battery usage?
That's actually amazing, with just a 3000mah battery. See, don't judge by the specs people

According to the images they posted - They had 8hr 42mins of total battery life
The screen accounted for 24% total battery - Android System 21% etc.. Not sure how screen can be 24% and still be 7hrs of a total 8hr 42 on battery ??
Fantastic if proves to be accurate though.

This kind of results is what you got when you basically just display a black image and do almost nothing.

Just used the phone more. You'll see that the standby time went down as the SOT went up. I'm thinking it'll settle in around 22 standby and 6-7 screen on. Which is better then anything I've had for awhile. I have the note 4 and s6 active right now. And had a s6e. This phone will get me a little more then even the active I think.

Question though, could it be your note 4's battery is old?
If they were both brand new then it would be a fair test.
What do you think?
