I have a rooted moto g5 plus with stock rom. I have installed a number of dialer and contact apps and set them as default but all incoming calls still use the system phone. What am I missing? Please advise. Thanks.
are you using google dialer? and do you have dialer frameworks and maybe check by going to settings>apps>that gear icon there and changing defaults
Install gapps it'll automatically install pixel like phone framework. Or install rom with 7.1.2 nougat rom.
Can I install gapps over a stock rom? I have tried using many of the custom roms but had issues with the camera and with cell connection. I fastbooted back to stock, rooted the phone and those issues are gone. Not sure why, it is my girlfriend phone and I don't think she cares anyway. She would like a better dialer with bigger icons and that is the reason for this post. Thanks.

Hi team,
I am having a problem with video recording. Camera works perfectly, but when I try to record video the camera stays on for a split second then turns off and generates a "video" that won't play b/c it says its not a recognized file format. I rebooted and it worked for a minute then stopped again.
I'm running Nova Launcher prime alternating with GEL sometimes. Have Xposed framework and G2 xposed and GravityBox but haven't made any camera mods with those.
Any advice??
What ROM are you on? It may be a bug or fault due to mods or a custom ROM. I know it's not normal stock ROM behaviour. Try clearing the camera cache and data, else, I'd suggest a back-up and wipe all apps/mods to go back to your ROM's defaults.

Running a stock rom. I reverted back to 4.2.2 rooted then upgraded to stock 4.4.2 so I can't flash roms but still rooted.
It seems to have been isolated only to Nova. When i uninstalled all launchers, cleared data, and went back to GEL (my preferred launcher, I know its weird!!) it seems to work fine now.
I like GEL now that there is an Xposed module and I can customize it how I want and decrease the icon size!!
Sorry for the dumb question, hopefully will keep working. I'm still kind-of a noob!

Not at all, it's weird how that was what it affected. Glad it's resolved!
I prefer Google stock apps over Samsung apps. I'm on the latest stock Lollipop for the Sprint Galaxy S4 and rooted. I've tried 3-different apk files and none will install. I've tried copying them to /system/priv-apps and setting permissions to 644. 2 don't even show up, and 1 that shows up force closes immediately. Anyone know of one that works, or a way to make one work?
I would prefer to stay on stock ROM.
Hello all,
I have been trying to replace the stock phone dialer that was installed when 3.5 update kicked in. I have tried downloading the phone apk Ver 7.0, 6.Something and others Everytime I get the error "package cannot be parsed"
I am very used to the original settings, look and feel and the update screw it up. It tell me that the app version is 6.0.something. also when I look at the contacts app it also takes me to the same phone app screen I am a bit confused. If someone has the zip so I can force I stall from recovery that will be great.
Thank you
To try and clarify this,
I went ahead and flashed Gapps 'stock' and the gapps did overwrite the original dialer but even then this is not working, actually I made it worse :$ now the app has no access privileges see screenshot. Clearly I can simply reflash OOS but, what is live without adventure
Any idea?
By the way I flashed gapps via TWRP

Follow this guide. Even though it's for OP3 it works well for my OP2. Using Google dialer and contacts on 3.5.6. Make sure you use dialer_with_framework-2016-10-18-11-15-31.zip version and flash contacts as well. You need to disable InCallUI system app as well. Good luck.

Thanks, I will give it a try I got it working better after performing a factory reset but when receiving a call the UI flashes the OOS dialer for like a sec and then Google dialer takes over, very weird stuff, and one thing I forgot the dialer does has privileges I made sure they were active. At least I can make and receive calls.
So I have performed every step and the dialer is working, however not working as expected, the dialer still has some ghost function, incoming calls activate the OOS dialer first and the Google dialer and from there Google UI remains, however the notification shows 2 ongoing calls...
Maybe I should just forget it since we are supposed to get OOS 4.0 next month.
Did you follow all steps? Disable stock phone and incallui? Changed the default phone app go Google phone app? You flashed both the phone and contacts zip? It should work because I don't get any error during incoming and outgoing calls. Also, isn't the OOS 4 dialer going to be the same because this new dialer is based on pixel design?

Yes every step was followed, maybe it was the way I flashed everything originally. As I flashed all Gapps in one fell swoop, since this way it attempts to replace and uninstall the stock app. I did verify that inCallUI is disabled the default dialer no longer seems present.

I do not know if the OOS 4 dialer will be the same I presume not, this dialer is missing some functionality. In any case right now the phone is functional, a minor annoyance at most. I will wait to see how 4.0 does the dialer if I don't like it I will re attempt flashing Google dialer and this time will find a little slower. At least now I know where are the zip.
Thanks, I will try to reflash the dialer and contacts one more time and see how it goes.
Yes, maybe flashing zip might have messed something up. What these zips do is flash Google framework, phone and contacts. Maybe a clean ROM flash in OOS 4 will work because this works for sure as I've been using it for 3 weeks without any problems. Good luck!

Is it safe to flash GAPPS (arm64 - 7.0 - stock) on Stock Rooted Galaxy S8 via TWRP?
yes it is safe
yes it is possible i have renovate ice rom 7.1 with gapps arm64 stock and it works flawless. as my intention it replaces all the samsung stock apps with google and you get the fully pixel launcher, you may want to delete some stock system apps that stay on the phone with system app uninstaller (root) if you wanna know more you can contact me.

Nice, which one did you install?
I think i used open-gapps, the one with the aroma installer that lets you select stuff. I wouldn't say "flawless" but it does work. Even if you only select some apps it sets things up for all of them and so your logs get spammed for days about missing receivers and broadcast crap. I should try again but with nano gapps or something
I used the usual .zip gapps and everything works fine as it should but only the dailer app doesn't work with me. It says it needs phine permission but I can't give it because the app doesn't ask. And I can't give it that permission in the settings, but the rest no problems I uninstalled all Samsung stock apps and replaced them with gapps.

Stock dialer works fine, you just grant the permissions it needs from settings.

Yea i tried but it doesnt work for me
I have a SM-G550FY, at least that is what my phone says. Now when I got the phone it was a metropcs phone and I tired rooting it which worked. Then I tried to flash the Reborn ON5 rom and then I had no sound. After this I tried flashing a stock rom but I believe it was for the T-Mobile variant. NOW it wont open ANYTHING. It boots and the initial android setup shows up but after I cant even open the settings in my phone. I used recovery to reinstall the reborn rom since no sound is better then no apps. I believe I flashed imgs for different model number but now I am not sure what to do. I just want to go back to the stock rom so I can have my sound back. Any help would be appreciated.
To fix the no apps/black screen what I did was pull down the notification menu from the top of the screen, then by long pressing the buttons I was eventually able to get into a settings menu where I could get to the play store. I started by downloading a bunch of the basic apps that were missing...contacts, messages, etc. then I installed "Google Now Launcher" and that fixed all the things. The bad metro wallpaper showed up and there were the apps that I thought were missing. I hope this helps...or at least gives you some hope that everything isnt lost.
Edit...if you can get to the play store...try the google now launcher first. Honestly any launcher might work.
