Really awful way to manage updates for Samsung...
3 Updates released in whole Europe, no update for KKA KK5 KK5 (XEF).
Is really annoying, don't you think?
*shrug*
Anyone who has any real immediate need for the update before ics can flash it in 2 minutes themselves using odin.

I am not complaining about missing ICS update, just usual updates...
Like you have your Mac Os X or Windows 7 and cannot get your updates.
You paid like the others, and you're not getting basic stuff (like keyboard or performance patches).
your on xda for a reason. we here like to do things ourselves. why wait on samsing?
but i think the sgs2 and note was the most updated phone ive ever owned.

core functionality wise, the updates did very little.
There is no significant update for this phone before ICS, dont expect patches for phones at same frequency as desktop OSes. It simply wont happen.
The custom roms is where the fun is. There are plenty to choose from as we are not tied to OTA for specific region and we can use custom ROMs based on release meant for other areas on our phone. But that does not mean that update is actually warranted to be pushed out by Samsung for every single region.
There are still plenty of updates coming directly from Samsung for this phone. I am actually impressed by Samsung over last 1 year with the speed with which they are fixing and updating their high end offerings.
There is an old saying: "If it aint broken, dont fix it" Probably like that the people over at Samsung in S-Korea think..

I agree... When updating firmwares, not simply the OSs (we are talking about kernel modules + kernel itself + mdw and userspace), you cannot get updates every month. But I have to say that if devices and roms can be exchanged one on the other (I know how it works, I worked on android-x86.org)... WHY are they branching and delivering software coming from different versions of their codebase based on CSC, and leaving some geographical areas so behind the others?
I am in France due to my job and as far as I know, Note is the 4th sold phone of last 2 months.
how long does it take for verizon to send out firmware updates for our phones. i noticed the international versions have gotten at least 2 updates since the release and it improved the stability and battery life of their phones. i'm wondering if anyone here heard of any upcoming updates for our phones.

They usually take quite a while to make sure the other updates don't cause some kind of issue. They also would make the update immediate to patch some kind of flaw in the stock rom. But that's the beauty of rooting and putting your own roms. So you don't have to wait on the official releases to get new features.

With that being said, I know that there were several updates for other versions posted in the General Note 3 forum. Has anyone ported/installed these updates on the Verizon version? If so, were there any notable benefits from those updates?

It's going to be another month before official update comes by the sounds of the latest update on Twitter.....
Total shambles. Android N will be out by then....
Hah got MM in early december
Hauwei can take all the time they need to get it right before the MM release, in no rush here.
So in terms of reliably giving us updates there is no change for Huawei since 2 years ago

To be honest it's no difference from most mobile manufacturers. Even Motorola took their time when Lollipop came out, and they are known for (supposedly) releasing updates quickly.
Would you rather Huawei took their time making sure that an update is as bug free as possible, or rush it out with problems? (They have stated there was a major issue with the beta release on one of their twitter feeds).
don't expect much from a china company.
guys, honestly, how can you be disappointed in huawei for the the way they have handled updates rollout so far?? with plk-l01 we had 8 official updates, b180 runs pretty smooth and we are only a few weeks away from mm.
if they need more time checking for bugs and fixing issues, so be it!
bear in mind that they aren't using a proprietary OS, so setbacks and delays are part of the deal.
don't forget only MS and Apple can produce a 100% sure timeline for updates, their phones are running on proprietary OS, and if they couldn't keep their promises about updates i would definitely be mad at them, but you can't blame huawei for wanting to release stable updates instead of bugged ones.
after all, you could always turn to Nexus if you wanted to have an android smartphone with weekly updates
Nowadays nobody has the great virtue called "patience".
I just don't understand people who live in a world where there biggest worry is the Antutu score and having the latest update sooner than anyone...
Really, I'm still on B170 have no notification problems and no battery drain whatsoever. I am so pleased with my actual experience with the Honor 7 PLK-01 that I have no need for updating now. The only reason I would hit the update button is for a very important security risk.
You talk about patience and give honor a break ect but they are the ones saying it was going to be released last month. They created this problem. They should not lie. They should be more professional instead of giving an impression they have not got a clue what they are doing anymore.
But hey ho go and flash B320 MM it is a good update and I've been running it for a while.
Huawei haven't lied. This is software development where you have a timescale, and if an issue is found that needs more time to resolve, then it needs more time. Good to see they are taking time to get MM right before release.
Anyone wanting permanent updates (weekly) can switch to Xiaomi. THEN you´ll see bug and stability complains.
But hey, they have weekly updates that sometimes fix something and creates other problems. Also updates for useless features that the vast majority of their forum users (customers) regards as so.

Xiaomi has 2 kind of updates, beta weekly and stable monthly. New features are somethimes useless, but others are a miracle, like permissions that are part Of xiaomi rom from 3 years, and google put them on android in M release... I have huawei and i think it's a good company also for the update process of this terminal, but it is impossible to make a perfect policy, and make all people happy. Even google with nexus line does not nake happy everyone, so

Stable monthly are not that stable and misses features the hardware supports. Been there among complainers for some years.
This is my third Huawei, so I think these phones are really good value. Even i bought one when people didn't even know the brand. BUT if they want to be a top brand somethings should be fixed, and one of them is to give proper deadlines for updates... usually you don't own a phone that long in order to wait manufacturers... This was one of the worst things of Microsoft last year, when we were waiting to release Windows mobile 10, and they lost a lot of customers, including myself.
I just hope they will fix some normal issues, for example: get notifications without power management stopping everything..

Talk now is the S6 will be getting Android 7 soon, the S8 will be out in a few months and yet Samsung is sitting back releasing Android 7 through a bottle neck...........if they want to treat customers in this manner fine but I wont be party to it again, like last year when other countries and networks got Android 6 before the BTU beta users!

Well you could argue a few ways.
One - would you rather have rushed software with bugs, or tested software that works?
Two - there are a few models from the Samsung line so newer should get priority over older.
Three - Samsung should release less devices to show work on upgrades for existing users. Most people will upgrade at end of contract, which in most cases is 18 months to two years. So having a new product every two years will lead to better tech than the predecessor and a more unified user base with devices and more satisfied customers.
Sadly, business works on ever growing profit margins, so having a two year gap in growth would look bad for investors and other companies could surpass Samsung in growth in that time making the new models cost more to make up the previous years loss.
You could argue yes but its even out of the Oneplus 3 now, I wont be wasting hundreds with Samsung again..........oh and it wasn't really an argument you gave because Samsung has tested it, their just dripping the final release so only a handful of people have it

Well, I'm going to post from the other side of the tacks on this one. I came to the S7 Edge from a 6P. I was even part of the beta program and got updates faster than anyone else. You know what? Whoopdeedo. There was nothing even in the last release version of N (7.1.1) that I had on the 6P that this S7 Edge can't and didn't already do long before it was put into vanilla Android. The upgrade to N will come to the S7 Edge shortly. Even here in Canada where updates seem to take forever from carriers, it is noted as coming soon, so we should see it in the next month or so.
But really, this phone is already performing so much better for me that the 6P ever did and has everything software wise and more than I ever had with straight N Android. Not sure why the updates are seemingly so important to some. This phone works great right now and my battery life is off the charts compared to the 6P on the latest version of N. Besides, N is coming to our phones shortly as well. As someone mentioned above, because it is taking longer, at least it won't be riddled with bugs and battery drain like on the 6P for me.

You have to understand that carriers may release their updates later than Samsung., even thigh Samsung have tested.

Just wait. It's not hard, the update will come when it is due. If you are that eager for it then flash the BTU version. Samsung has their own way of releasing software, just like every other OEM.

Well, don't speak for everyone. I'm with Rogers here in Canada and they JUST posted "Coming Soon" on their website. So it's only been about a week or so since my carrier has said it is coming. Not Samsung's fault the carriers take forever to get their crap in there and test their version.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/tech/news/575565/Android-Nougat-Samsung-Galaxy-S7-update-release-date
Like I said I wont be giving hundreds to a supplier that extracts the urine like this, I might even get the Oneplus 4 when its out, they've released it for the 3 now
I got fed up waiting for Singapore to update to Nougat, so I just flashed, with Odin, the Malaysian Nougat update, using my Home CSC. Worked perfectly, not data lost. My phone is not rooted
Well, the unlocked version in US is independent on carriers and does not has Nougat yet. It is not the carrier's fault if Samsung has multiple versions of the same phone and decides to update only a subset of all the versions.

No doubt there are bugs they can't fix and that's the real question: why samsung with their multimillion budget to hire skilled devs can't provide quality software update in time? Not to mention how many people replaced they catching fire note 7 with s7e... good strategy to treat all of them like that. Let's not forget that in 2017 even the normal user is becoming more and more aware about updates and their importance about his experience. After all, they can afford to hire more than one A team working on their flagship phone and attach it to s7/s7e development. If the patch BTU update works well I can guess they will start to roll out around the mid/end next week. Still, for me this is a really bad rollout, especially if we consider the beta test period.

1. I doubt these reps have any more of a clue about the O update for the H8 than you do. If you communicate with enough of them, I am sure one of them will give you the answer you're looking for.
2. What's the fascination with the O update anyway? Functionally, what do you want to do that O will help you with (that N and M do not)?
3. If you use the H8 as a daily driver, the need to experiment with the latest and greatest is diminished. Haven't you read the numerous posts complaining about compatibility with N, much less O? As an example, it took ages for Xposed to work with N. Many here would prefer full compatibility with Xposed vs. an O update with limited or no Xposed support.
4. There are many other threads talking about O being promised -- or not -- for the H8. Why can't posters just update one thread with their latest updates from (mostly clueless) reps?

It's not that I'm fascinated with the O update, I just feel a bit cheated because they promised 2 years of updates right? Buying a phone (with great specs) that becomes outdated in a couple of months kinda stings. And for xposed... I'm not too into that anymore especially with stability/diversity rom issues with this device; I gave roms try for a while but the loss of some functionality and higher charging temps made me uneasy

Btw Honor 8 is being updated regularly every 3 months. We received the B394 on September and the B398 is already being released. Updated don't mean only Major updated

Imho we're only talking about official upgrades, no root or xposed, so we don't really care about xposed : if you use xposed, you have rooted your phone, so you willingly excluded yourself from official upgrades.
I think a lot of us understood that 2 years updates meant 2 major android upgrades, which is not what happens, we only get very minor updates every few months.
Imho a real serious way of handling updates would be to release one with every google security patch, with no new feature and only bug fixing, security first.
And then state something about the major android upgrades, but these 2 should be separated.
But I'm dreaming in a non commercial world
And if you add a so-called partnership with XDA developers, and no real full source has been released, yes this is very disappointing.
Unfortunately Huawei is terrible with updating their previous devices. They're in it for a quick buck and move onto the next new one. All you can do is vote with your money next time and buy a Google pixel if you want updates, or an iPhone. I wouldn't expect more than 1 major os upgrade for any Huawei devices.
I want KRACK patched. If it's not patched in the next month I'm selling my phone for an iPhone.
Apple has better security than Android.

I second that. KRACK (hell, even Blueborne) is unpatched on our phones. I understand that we get "regular" updates, but seriously, an out-of-band update when serious vulnerabilities occur is not much to ask.
Not everybody can afford an iPhone, but for sure, if Huawei/Honor don't get their act together, this will be the first and the last of their devices that I will ever buy.

Yes, but so much advertising around XDA partnership and honor 8 beeing their new "long live" model made a lot of us buy it even if they had such reputation.
iPhone ? Never ever ! This is the opposite problem, they push too much major upgrades so your phone becomes a low performance phone.
I have an ipad2 for music creation, I recovered good performance when I rolled back from verrrrry laggggggy iOS 9 to iOS 6.
From the previous update patterns.. if your model has launched with (MM) you will get the next one(N). If your model has launched with (N), then you will get the Oreo. Period..
It depends.
Honor promised either 12 or 24 months of Major Android Updates. Honor has delivered in the past like my Honor 4C got two major Android updates Lollipop and Marshmallow. I believe we should get Oreo since it is extremely healthy for the development community. If Honor delivers Oreo with Treble Support, there's a high chance of getting a fully functional bulges custom ROMs for the device.
From my previous experiences with Huawei devices i noticed that they only receive 1 major update during their lifetime. Even flagships. That was true with Ascend P7 (4.2.2.-->5.1.1), P8 (5.1.1-->6.0) and now the same with Honor 8. Huawei does not even bother with intermediate OS updates like 7.0.2 and 7.1.1
It was released with 6.0, now it has 7.0, so ... that's it.
Well, the Honor 6X was released only two months after the 8 with 6.0 too and it has Oreo planned. It doesn't make sense for Honor to ditch 8 for 6X. Let's wait and see.
Those are not official. Someone in these forums got replied to an email that Honor 8 will get a closed beta for it soon. That person is not official Honor and is therefore fake.
Yup the xda partnerships that honor/Huawei touts everytime ar sooooooooooooooooo fake its laughable.

The customer support is now saying that even the Honor 6X isn't going to recieve the Oreo update.
She did mention that despite it hasn't been announced we shouldn't lose hope since it still isn't CONFIRMED. She also mentioned that we will continue recieving security patches which honestly is more that enough for me......
I've tried Oreo on my Nexus 5X and if anything it made the device slower and doesn't have any new changes or features apart from the password filling in apps or the updated Bluetooth codec.
