The main feature off lollipop and sony chooses to ignore it.
Let's all start the digging
That is terrible news :<

Fu**! Stupid sony!
I do not see more reasons to upgrade to lollipop . The RAW function was my main reason to upgrade .
OK the xperiablog.net report says no raw support for 3rd party cameras as yet. Can anyone confirm the same for the inbuilt camera

Really, Samsung don't have it, LG don't have it either. Or has that changed?
sony wouldnt implement it in its camera firmware anyway, but i was hoping that at least they would include the support for it for 3rd party camera apps, but acordingly to xperia blog, all features are disabled.
This is a shame really, sony ****ed up big time. Galaxy s6 has RAW option, manual focus, manual everything, and all this in the default camera app. You can go even further and use 3rd party apps that have more features.
we cant even get away from the mediocre camera results from sony now, this is sad.
i expect that they implement some of the advanced camera api features from lollipop on Z4, so soon or later it would be ported to z3 series, but this is just a speculation by me.

No, we can't because the camera binaries for the Sony Exmor IMX220 camera sensor have to support it and the only phones to use this sensor are the entire Sony Z Series and the Meizu MX4.
Can someone say if it's possible to use another devices camera binaries for the same sensor?
Since our only hope is riding on the Meizu MX4: gsmarena.com/meizu_mx4_and_mx_4_pro_to_get_android_lollipopbased_flyme_os-news-11023.php

I remember reading something about a new HTC phone coming out with the same sensor which could theoretically make that possible. Can anyone confirm?
meh,
because YOU want RAW doesnt't mean other want it, 99% of customers don't care about RAW so don't say stupid things.
Would have been nice to have to play around with and to show off to my iPhone friend . In the end it all depends on your point of view. Compared to smartphone camera a few years ago the Z3c is amazing. I've made some beautiful shots with it. And compared to a "real" camera all smartphones are garbage (except maybe Nokia?).
So for me the camera is perfect. I don't want to make a photography album with my pictures I want to have a quick shooter to capture some memories. And with the auto mode and the dedicated button the Z3c is exactly what I need.
It's frustrating because the camera hardware in the phone isn't being utilized to its full potential. Yes, it's fine for the average user, but for some, and I think many on this forum share this mindset - we try to get the most out of our devices. Not tapping into our camera's full potential is like leaving our device unrooted - it's neutered.

The main difference between the S6 and the Z3 being that the S6 is running Lollipop out of the box, where the Z3 is running Kit Kat. Implementing the Camera2 API is a lot more work than just porting the legacy firmware on Lollipop. That's why all OEMs chose to port their old firmware and stop here.

the funny thing is, I tried snapchat today, and the front camera does not soften the skin.
I guess there is a way but I'm no developer so I cant check or try.
I know some devs have succesfully ported pixel camera for nexus devices to allow HDR+. Is it possible to do the same for the LGV20 so that we can also expirience that HDR+ software?

So this question really irked me, in a good way of course. Whilst studying for my history exam, I was thinking that HDR+ is essentially software based. The Pixel's camera's specs are kinda mediocre aside from the 1.55um sensor—only f2.0 aperture and no OIS; the best part about the camera is the software to back it all up. So, I looked around to see if you could potentially port the camera app itself, which might have the correct algorithm for HDR+. I came across a dev who made the app Camera NX, which in essence is a port.
So here is a brief overview of the app.
And here he explains how the HDR+ has zero shutter lag.
What really got my attention is the following quote:
This mod is just an update to Chow's Camera NX app, which itself is a port of the Pixel's stock camera app and libraries. What that all boils down to is that you don't even need to be rooted to get Zero Shutter Lag with HDR+ mode right now.

Anyways, since I do not own an LG V20 (I hope to soon, once my Note 4 contract expires), you'll have to do most of the testing and report back, if that's alright. Nonetheless, I hope this was helpful!
Thanks for the reply. I did come across that apk and installed it. It does work as a camera but unfortunatly there is no HDR+ present. There is exposure setting and whitebalance toggles. The other problem i notice is that the slow motion seems worse quality then what is found on the stock app. By all means i am no expert bit if any one else has feedback or have tested this themselves and see improovements or HDR+ present let us all know.
Unfortunately I haven't found Google Camera to work on the V20;it works good on the note 5 though...weird. Stinks because there is no option to make photo-spheres with the V20 .
scrap that. I just downloaded the latest from xda...no problems!

actually the hexagon dsp on the snapdragon 820/821 does the heavy lifting for hdr+ which works different between the pixels and the 5x/6p. the latter ones only can do software hdr+. there was an interesting post on reddit about this. currently also searching for a modified google camera app as camera nx is only modified for the nexus phones. the lg g5 and v20 are very much capable of what the pixel does.
It probably isn't as simple as that. But have you tried changing the build.prop to identify the phone as a pixel?
I can't try myself as I don't have root access.

Except Google camera app is not available in the store with stock LG V20 software.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the pixel camera mod with the wide angle lens? I'm not sure how you would put the ability to switch from regular to wide in the app but is there any way to have it default to the wide angle lens instead of the regular one?

There are reports of the app using the wide lens and for others it uses the regular narrow one. For me on my h918 it uses the regular narrow lens. There is no button for switching like on the stock LG camera so as of right now I'm not aware of any way to switch between them.
I've found nice GCam mode suitable for V20
I have used many ROMs based on Lineage OS here.
Testing camera performance especially front camera for selfie.
MIUI camera delivers exceptionally amazing selfies.
I have tested Open Camera on MIUI and the selfie quality went bad, selfies became dull as same as they are in Lineage cameras.
This means the App is the key to better selfies.
If its possible to Port that app, Many users on internet willing to donate for the same.
Also this will improve overall device feel and experience on LineageOS.
If this thread becomes capable to attract at least one developer who shows interest in this we will be lucky.
Participate with your ideas and try to attract Developers here.If you are willing to Donate for this project kindly do mention.
I've seen this happen on every Xiaomi phone I've owned. On all of them there's a thread of people really wanting a port of the MIUI camera, but on none of them is it possible. The MIUI camera is part of the MIUI framework and won't work without it. So unless someone makes a Magisk module of the MIUI framework that plays nicely with AOSP and ports the camera it won't be possible
Guys please participate in this thread.
Participation is only key to get Dev attention.

Not useful, people who used it are saying it's working as a normal camera app only.

I think that is just the app, it doesn't include the low level firmware optimisations. It doesn't work on the MI5,and it's based on MIUI5 which is 4years old. The fact that we haven't made progress post that is testiment to how difficult it is to port the camera firmware. Atm the only solution is dual bootiing, and using a MIUI based ROM if you go out to take pictures (like on a holiday). It's ****ty, but it's what we're stuck with. Google Camera works OK on Lineage for quick snaps anyway.
Wait for next update of the snap camera. I am sure it will rock
I have realized that MIUI has really developed its camera app over the time, even if some other camera app are launched. They will not catchup with this app. Hence if we have a scope to use this existing piece of work we must port it rather than focusing on other means.
I just hope some developer has seen this thread and considering to take on this project.
will a camera port be ever available?
I really like the MIUI camera because the focus peaking option, who else ?
guys I have talked to developers, they are saying that it's not possible to port this camera.
And if it was possible, someone in XDA community would have already ported it like these is Google camera.
So if you want great photos, be on MIUI.
Guys, Sad news is Developers have denied to make any such port.
They say MIUI camera has something to do with Miui framework also this camera is Closed Source.
Sadly in summary If you want to use your phone for camera stay on MIUI only.
Use raw shooting for max quality for both AOSP and MIUI. As it pulls raw data without any touch you can get superrior quality compared to MIUI camera app.

Can anyone provide gcam for m30s with all the features working?
Porting gcam for exynos based phone is a herculean task. Don't expect gcam for this or any exynos devices. Enjoy
Where do they make smartass like you ?
Gcam for Exynos Galaxy A50 , Samsung S10 and many more is working ( more/less)
You may try this one https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GCam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.5.190418.1850.apk
None of them work properly and even if the gcam works there is no difference in the quality of the image compared to the stock camera. Reason being no camera2api support for M30s. This is confirmed by the Samsung customer care itself. So dear padgar first use the handset and try gcam and then comment. May be you don't know camera2api support is a must for gcam to work as a gcam otherwise its just a crap.

If you want to know why it's difficult to create gcam mod for exynos visit this link https://piunikaweb.com/2019/04/02/e...e-camera-gcam-port-status-heres-what-we-know/
So will there be a proper gcam for m30s? Nokia 7 plus camera really spoilt me.
Yeah its hard to find gcam for Exynos but still there are some respecteble port but the main problem is full camera2api(level3) that our device lack.
If some body manage to enable it then the below gcam will work for sure. now its just a gimmick.
