Although I'm using TMobile variant, It's pretty much the same process as on 6.0+
The easiest way is to download Xposed installer then flash the framework via recovery within the app itself

Yea only issue with root on this device is you have to wipe the device in order to apply it
This is a good way to get stuck in a boot loop do not install xposed ona us996 this way!

Can confirm this is still a problem today. It looks like nothing is happening for about 20 minutes but then it switches to "Android is starting 78%"

So I just came across this tweet from droidx - https://youtu.be/QicDqTKb_sU supposedly this root method will work with any android phone 5.1.1 or lower. Lots of caution needed here due to the origin and amount of permissions needed, but he did show it rooting a Verizon note 4. I have the apk but haven't tried it as I'm using a prerooted image and haven't flashed back to stock.
http://www.kingroot.net
UPDATED INFO (5/13/15)
1) English version is available here through XDA (LINK);
2) This is a temporary root that doesn't survive a reboot (this is due to write protection); and
3) A permanent root solution (for the Note 4) is being worked on off of XDA (due to some thread circumstances) (reference is here).
Right now there is no word of anyone working on a Droid Turbo permanent root solution.
New perma-root discussion for the Note 4 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60713495
Update (5/18/15)
1) There is a new script out that will delete kinguser and install supersu instead! The link is here. Keep in mind that this script will need to be modified for our device, but according to the script authors it should be applicable.
2) It has been recommended to soft reboot the device using this app from the play store. There are a million of these type of apps available, but this one is being used on the Note 4 side.

Download the version directly from their website. I'm going to remove the English site link.
The official version doesn't have that issue.
I forwarded over to @JustinCase but he doesn't have time to dig into it.

Of course it attempts to bypass Android security, it's an app that gives you root.

I just read a ton of the note 4 thread, and many people had to try a few times to get it to work. Supposedly this is just a temp root method on devices with write protection. If you do get root, try a reboot and see if it sticks.
I'm not sure if this method in it's current form gets us anything over what we have now but it could lead to more.
Mine failed too

I've heard enabling allow mock locations might be necessary.
They are working on a perm method but nothing yet. This is very interesting.
FYI this doesn't install SuperSU or let it be installed.
Yeah, temp root. No write permissions.

---------- Post added at 04:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 AM ----------
I confirm doesn't survive reboot also
So what's the point if write protection is still on?
I don't believe this kind of sites
tried the app and the pc app method.. both didtn work for the droid turbo. now im thinking they stole some info.
The free version of Wondershare MobileGo roots the MotoX 5.1 OTA. I just finished doing it. Just download, install and click the root button.

I think it only stays till you reboot phone. SU appears after you get root access, however once you reboot your phone, the root doesn't stay?

KingRoot - Temporary root for Att running lollipop
I obtained root using kingroot on my att xt1097, it was temporary, about 5 minutes. Has anyone use kingroot? I root on the first try, then I thought I did something wrong so I tried it again and it didn't work... Tried it like 15 more times and it worked again tried to install binaries with supersu and rebooted and lost it again. Repeated the process again and keep losing the root. Any ideas?

Yeah, ATT variant. It was only temporary though. Dunno what it was doing / using which exploit to gain root access though. Lol, I don't really trust this app. Tbh, I got a little paranoid for awhile...

So I have the AT&T variant of the LG v20(h910) and I'm trying to figure out how to switch from SuperSU to magisk, I'm trying to use Google pay to send money but it won't let me because I am rooted but I know if I use magisk I can get past all of that so can anyone help me out here where do I start?
Hi dude,
Download the latest rom for your phone, download magisk, use kdzwriter to update your phone '-a' option, then use the '-k' option to unroot the phone and install kernal and magisk via TWRP and wipe cache blablabla. Takes like 10 minutes or less without the downloads.
Supersu

All done
Ok guys i got it, thanks for the help, but i do have one question, is there a way i can get free wifi tethering?
For a long time I've been subscribed to a thread regarding the matter but recently it has become very inactive. Anyways, does anyone have a root method for it? If you don't at the moment could you help a lot of people out and try to figure out a method to root it? (There are a lot of people looking for a root method for this device)
I agree. This phone is by no means perfect, but root and all things that follow would improve it greatly.
I second your request. Help. Please. Anyone?
Sorry for not replying I have recently figured out how to access the recovery mode so here is what you do...
First you Power Off your device
Second you boot up your device but instead of just pressing power you need to press and hold the volume up button and keep holding it until your screen goes black then you should be in recovery mode
P.S. if you want to get it with adb commands just do adb reboot recovery
All we need to do now is figure out how to unlock the bootloader. With adb commands you need to eaither download Android SDK or go to the XDA thread with a quick installer of the drivers. Link to thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Another thing if you want to get into Factory Test Mode(FTM Mode) instead of holding volume up hold volume down.
Hope this helps towards rooting the device!

yes it is, i used to for a few months, but the tmo update was a pain to get onto the phone. Now i just run my phone unrooted and stock.
What this mod do?
If you try it out please let me know if it works. I heard some reports of a boot loop and I don't want to have to flash adb recovery, remove Magisk modules, reinstall stock recovery ?. This phone/android10 can be annoying...

Is that a must have mod? I mean, the 7T Pro McLaren is already pretty fast in my opinion. I don't know if I want to take the risk to install this mod honestly
Wouldn't say it's a must have and the phone is very fast on its own. Just I have experienced app closing when multitasking and just kinda want to try it out for some of the other features. But not important enough for me to risk a boot loop and go through the procedure of removing the mod. Could just use a kernel manager I guess.
