I really hope you found a solution. Ive been looking an answer for this annoying problem for 6 months!
Ive read almost 50 threads in differents forums about this problem but no solution at all.
- Tried changing charging port. Cost me a few dollars but no solution.
- Tried USB debugging on and off from developers menu.
- Did MTP+ADB option in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Turned Low Battery Dump "on" in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Tried 10 or more different original Samsung cables.
- Upgraded PC USB drivers.
None of them worked for me.
Hope you have made a progress.

I've accidentally repaired the USB functionality of a sm-a510fd with that defect, but don't know the exact steps. Try this.
1. Drain the battery until it becomes unusable.
2. Use the power button. The device will fail to start (with nothing on the screen).
3. Hold volume down.
4. Insert the charger. The screen turning on takes longer than it usually does.
5. The device should indicate that it is fast charging?

Maybe I did something different, such as pressing volume up, or holding both volume down and power. Or volume, power, and home. It's the last thing I remember doing before seeing it fast charge again. Odin and fast charging simply didn't, within at least a year of trying different cables, and chargers offered by others. The shop I bought it from cleaned the USB port but it didn't work. The fast charging works today, and the Odin flash worked.
The context was that I have replaced that phone, so I tested a few things on the old one that could brick it or damage the EFS. If it happens, I could load the backup on TWRP. If TWRP becomes unavailable, that's unfortunate. The phone didn't have much value anyway because the USB functionality, power, volume down, microphone, speaker, battery, etc were defective, many cosmetic defects, and the phone was permanently rooted. The SIM 2 tray's front broke off, the SIM became inaccessible (I have deactivated that SIM). Wiped the cache, data, internal storage on TWRP, before testing. I left the phone on. Battery went to 0%.
These are what I remember doing(might have done), most of these could, of course, brick the device, damage the efs, or permanently damage the hardware. Not in any order. I don't recommend anything below unless you have replaced your device, try different button combos, like the ones above.
Left the device on for ? days. It did not pass the new year.
Soundalive, Adapt, SecurityLogAgent were debloated.
*#9900# > SilentLog > whatever is on the screen. (Not 9090, the RAMDUMP (ON) could resize and damage the EFS partition!!!)
*#9900# > CP based log.
*#2683662# > DSP Log on, RmPC log on, RF log on (3).
*#9900# > Debug Level > high. Device rebooted itself.
Took a look at the logcat -b radio, it got more verbose. Cellular related, and there's hexadecimal that I was too lazy to decode.
build.prop dev.silentlog.on It set the option on, but with no effect? I don't remember if I had checked /data/log.
efs > factorymode > on, maybe? It didn't change anything, probably did not do this.
build.prop ril.OTPAuth=true
build.prop ro.build.type=eng It didn't work. Setprop... it didn't work. Reverts back to user.
The power and volume down... against the rounded edge of a table. Did not use force, it got those buttons unstuck(power permanently on, volume permanently off). Power button sometimes presses itself, but at least it isn't (almost completely) permanently like the way it was. Of course it could get rust all over the other components, get the accelerometer stuck, get those buttons permanently embedded, etc.
Turning both microphones towards the earth's gravity, inserting the SIM pin, then spinning it got the microphone working again. I don't recommend this. "OK, now only the USB problem is significant".
Set *#2683662# logs to the defaults (all off except RmPC), *#9900# debug level low, load backup in TWRP (data, system at least). And then the phone was left on at the lock screen.
Found it with a dead battery. Fast charge worked again.
I then flashed stock Nougat on it, then it got rooted. Gave it since it's no longer my main device. The recipient is afraid of it for some reason. Offered an underclock because the device gets hot while under load... nope. Guess it's the power button being odd sometimes. The speaker remains muffled & the sim 2 tray is stuck. But for now, I still have access to it after asking for permission, to copy & look at system files.
The battery is old and shuts off quickly below 15%.
You could try hard reset. If that doesn't solve then replacing usb port maybe only option left.

Hi everyone,
Recently, I tried to get my phone to tether using these directions: (can't post the link yet, but these directions are kind of universal)
2-On the phone, go to keypad and dial ##634#, then press the [Call] button.
3- A diagnostic mode screen in gray will show up.
4- Dial *#7284#, and press the [Call] button.
5- A Microsoft USB Test screen will show up which allows configuration of USB Path Control settings (options available is Zune Sync; Modem, Tethered Call; and Modem, USB Diag).
6- Select Modem, Tethered Call.
7- The phone will automatically restart to activate the setting.
8- Connect the phone to PC with a USB cable.
..and so on and so forth
However, when I tried to put it back to the zune/sync, it wouldn't work. I go back to the menu where it gives me the three choices of zune; tethering; and USB modem, and it shows that the phone is on the Zune sync option. However, when I plug in the USB cable into it, the computer doesn't recognize it - there's no charging involved, and the zune software doesn't open.
Additionally, when I try charging it to the plug that came with the package, the phone doesn't recognize that it's connected to that either and it still doesn't charge. Does anyone know what the issue is here?
I've tried multiple times to go back to the Path Control Settings menu and switch it to Zune Sync but nothing is happening to remedy the situation. Any pointers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
A long shot but did you by chance set the Zune software to sync wireless ? You may need to set it to No or turn off wirless Sync.
Settings>Phone>Wireless Sync
Make sure your phone is connected and sign into Zune. Again only a long shot.
I'm 99.9% sure I didn't set it to wireless sync. I turned off the wireless on my phone to conserve battery as well.
Also, in order to check the wireless sync setting I need to connect my phone, which I have, but the computer nor the phone has registered the connection. (No sound made on either end, and the battery charge icon isn't showing)
Thanks though! A long shot is still a shot!
edit: FYI, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with mucking up my phone as it did...
This sounds pretty strange. I have been changing from Modem to Zune back and forth and no problems at all.
I guess a Hard Reset will do the job for you. But I am not completely sure. Good luck.

Do I understand correctly that you cannot charge the phone with the wall charger?
If that's the case, it's probably an issue with your cord or the mini usb port.
Did you make any other changes while in Diagnostic mode? If you're not sure, check out this thread.

Yes, you understood correctly. I cannot charge the phone with the wall charger. It's the charger that came with it, so it's the charger that has a USB port. I've also tried using different USB cords unsuccessfully. :-/
I haven't made any other changes while in Diagnostic mode.
A hard reset is a last resort. Although I'd still want to figure out why it happened as opposed to just figuring out how to fix it to prevent something like this in the future.
Thanks guys!

I think the mini USB socket on your phone may be defective. Fortunately, the setup following a hard reset isn't nearly the task it was on WM...
So I tried a hard reset, and the thing still didn't work.
I'm assuming this is a hardware problem. Thankfully AT&T has the whole 30 day exchange thing going on.
They couldn't fix it there, so they did exchange it for a new one. The new one works. So yay!
Thanks for all your input peoples!
Hi all, i have a ZTE blade which i have rooted and flashed CM 7.0 successfully without upgrading the radio to GEN2. I've done this and much more without problems, however today for some reason the phone isnt even powering on. The only thing i did before was installing theft aware 2.0. Note that i dont have a SIM card inserted so it's unlikely that someone have sent a command that turned the phone into a... vegetable.
I tried removing the battery and trying to turn it on, nothing. I tried connecting it to the USB power charger without a battery, still nothing. This phone is supposed to be a birthday gift for my friends 30th birthday, so i'd really appriciate help getting it back to life.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: I've tried the following: with ADB devices the phone dosen't show up.
Trying entering field test mode with VOLUME DOWN + POWER key does not do anything. same result with VOLUME UP + POWER.
Tried different USB cords without success.
Have you tried holding volume up & down together along with the power button. Make sure you have the usb cable connected from the phone to a pc. So long as you have the zte drivers, it should show up in DFU mode in device manager (from what I remember).
I think from there you can flash recovery using fastboot again.
I tried that, nothing happens. Thing is, the phone dosen't give any kind of life signal at all, not even the button backlights turns on during charging. Could it be that it suffers from a hardware defect? Or is there more things i can try?
Yeah sounds like you may have a hardware issue; especially if none of the LEDs flicker on when trying the above.
hmm, ....out of ideas for now fella.
Any news on this?
I am having the exact issue, phone is like a real brick:
- Won't do anything when trying to press power and/or any other buttons one by one or at the same time
- Won't do anything with or without battery
- Won't do anything when pluging it to the USB/Charger, not even a led response
- I've tried with and without sim, with and without sd card, trie everything and still nothing, seems complketely without any kind of life inside. The only thing it does is get heat when you put it to charge with battery
I had it with cyanogen 7, max overclock to 710mhz, min arround 200, and it happened (turned off) 5 minutes after I installed Launcher Pro...
Any ideas?

I actually gave up and sent it in for service which returned me a brand new one. I suspect that ZTE dosen't have much of quality controls since a friend also suffered a case of "true-death" on her unmodified ZTE blade...
Similar issue here. If I press the power button (with or without any combination of other buttons) it just vibrates - no lights, display or sound. Doesn't power on so no fastboot/adb etc. Same behaviour with battery, charger, or both. If I hold the power button the vibration sort of pulses, a vibration every 0.75 seconds or so. I recently opened it up to get dust out from behind the screen, so no warranty :-(
Will ask at the shop what the options are for maybe paying for a repair..

Your issue is different than the one i had, you phone is at least being powered on since its vibrating.
Most likely you broke when you opened it or you simply didn't reassemble it correctly - if i were you i'd do it again and check that all the connectors are connected.
If its a software issue, you can always try TPT - total phone transfer. google it, i read it but didnt try it myself so i cant vouch for how it works.
Symptoms:
Phone wont charge (nor will it show charging - no lightning bolt)
Phone wont connect to computer USB.
If I connect the USB (to either a computer or a charger) the phone just pulses the vibration every 2 sec or so... and does not show the battery progress... just black screen.
As long as the phone has a fresh battery, it functions normally otherwise.
What its NOT:
The cable - tried many cables.
The charger - tried different samsung chargers...
The comptuer - tried more than one
The usb connector in the phone - nope.. not that either. When in ODIN mode, the phone stays on when I remove the battery... thus.. the USB connector is passing power.
The power button - The phone starts normally via the power button. It shuts down properly with the power button. The power button performs wakeup, etc all normally.
The battery - I have two Note 4's. I swap the battery, and the problem remains on the one phone.
Steps I have done:
I wiped the cache partition first... no change.
I did a full factory reset... no change.
I need some answers. I have run out of ideas. I'm not taking this to sprint. It will take an hour to explain to them what I've already done, and they will want to do expensive things that I bet will not fix it.

It seems that the micro USB connector on the phone is broken.
Note 4 is using 11 pin microUSB not the ordinary 5 pin.
You can still have power but very minimum wattage if 1 or several pins are broken, that's why in ODIN mode it still ON without battery as ODIN mode requires minimum power.
Try changing the micro USB connector on the phone (not the cable)
Hi people.
So i'm having a problem with my S7 Edge and i don't think it is common. A few weeks back I was using my phone and it would suddenly turn off and the battery would be drained too. After this first incident with the problem it happened more often, and the phone would start doing boot loops to the point where the phone just froze and turned off. When these problems occured it will usually need to be a problem where I do a safe boot (Volume up, Home button and power key), and everything will be fine (or to charge it if the battery drained), but recently, the phone just didn't work at all, to the point I waited for the battery to drain (10 hours), and try charging it, nothing happens.
So firstly I was watching a video and checking my CPU/Battery tempretures to see if that was the problem (the tempretures at the time were around 31 degrees), and mid way through the video it bugged out through the audio in a high screech and turned itself off.
I tried turning it on again but no response to the screen, i tried safe booting it, or every alternative booting option, it did not work at all.
Here is all the diagnostics and repairs I did, but no luck:
- Tried turning it on
- Different boot options (Volume up/down, Home button & power key)
- Cleaning the port for moisture detection
- Replacing the battery for a new one (Genuine one)
- Doing all of the above, with it on charge
- Connecting to a PC, but no detection
One positive I found was that when i put the phone on a wireless station, it would change colour to show that the phone is charging. I have however took the wireless out of the phone as it was in the way of the battery, and safely in my draw.
Before this final fault happened, I did do a recovery to a previous Android version, just incase if it was a software fault, but it wasn't. The phone is not rooted and I had it since September of 2016.
Is there any alternative options to do? As i'm running out of ideas to do as every solution on the internet is to turn it on, which i can't whatsoever.
The warranty is voided also as there is a crack on the screen lens, and it's way too much to pay for a repair.
I need some explination of why this is happening, so I can go in the right direction and not to waste money if i was going to a repair service, or purchasing the parts for myself.
Any help would be highly appericiated.
Check your installed apps to see if there any viruses on your phone. All you said are signs that your phone might have a virus (check how to remove it here: https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/how-to-tell-if-your-phone-has-a-virus/
However, there is a chance that you do not have any viruses on your phone, but at least you have to isolate this possibility.
Did you recall installing any app prior to this behavior?
This may be the case, however i can't turn on the phone at all. I tried every possible reboot possible, download mode, bios mode, safe boot, reboot, but nothing happens unfortunately. Unless i can do it whilst it is turned off, i can do something. I have a PC if i can do anything else with it.
I don't think I have installed any weird apps on the phone.
sounds like a brick to me. Not a lot I can thing of you can do.
If you place the wireless card back in does it boot?
IT sounds like you've messed with the internals, so possible you damaged something?
I don't particularly think that I broke it from the inside as it was behaving the same before i opened it. And when i used the wireless charging, it will only indicate it was charging or getting detected on that charging pad and not on the phone regarding a red led, or the charging icon
Have you tried holding volume down + home + power for 15 seconds and try turning on the phone again?
As mentioned in the description, I have unfortunately

Have you had any luck? Am in the same boat.
Folks,
kids got a T580 tablet which, by this morning, all of a sudden didn't wake up anymore. They've been playing games, apparently the device was at 21% battery. Now I can't enable display anymore. Restarting by holding POWER and one of the Volume buttons pressed doesn't work either. Connecting the device to a Linux laptop via USB however shows me a Samsung MTP device connected. Unfortunately rebooting via adb doesn't work, adb claims the device is unauthorized and (with the display off) I also can't change anything about that. Device is not rooted, running latest OTA update firmware. I'm running out of ideas... any suggestions on how to eventually revive the device? Known behaviour?
Thanks in advance,
Kristian
Known? not to me, but I'm new to the A.
Could it just be dead battery? If wall charger doesn't charge it, try usb port linux box, it's a slow charge that way, very slow, but it does work.
Let us know updates, unusual problem...

Thanks for your feedback, greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, battery seems out here. More insights: The device has WiFi on and actually also an IP address assigned. Connecting it to the laptop, I see an MTP and a modem device, and the device also shows up in adb devices. Even hard reboot using POWER +VOL-DOWN apparently seems to work, by then (still connected to the laptop) the MTP and modem device will disappear for a few moments to finally reconnect. Just all the time the device stays dark, I can't even do anything with it using adb because I can't get it authorized without a display connected.
Really strange. I have never so far seen something like that. Any more insights welcome. Especially, is there a way to enable something such as screen mirroring (I have a chromecast around) without physical access to the device? It's pretty difficult to do anything right now without being able to interact with that thing...

Pretty much seems like a screen failure. If it's kids I'd say likely been knocked and probably needs the screen connector/s reseating.
Try to open back cover it's very easy, after that disconnecte all of flix cables (lcd ,battery camera,...etc) and connect them again finally press power button it will work 100% .i did it many times

I will kind of second this. The devices have a tendency to freeze or what we call deep cycle discharge. And many times a simple battery disconnect solves these issues.
We have this issue on the s8 s8+ and pretty much any device it can but more of a pain on a non removable battery
A ittle late and maybe too simple, but my wife's did this and the brightness had somehow gotten turned completely down, to the point of not seeing anything. I fixed it by randomly swiping left to right until I hit the bar.
