Worth the upgrade? - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi users and developers ,I am pretty much confused as for I should pick Moto g4+(3,32) by handing over my Moto Turbo (3,64),so can suggest your views as if it'd be a worthy upgrade or not?as far as I know the g4+ has software glitches creating the performance issues and wonder if they could solved by installing custom ROMs? awaiting for a quick reply, thanks in advance ??

no clue if it's a n upgrade
Don't know anything about your current phone.-
No software issue ever on my g4 plus.
The g4 plus is ok for a cheapy phone.
i DO have ghost touch off and on which is a pain in the ass though.
No compass also, some people want that.

if you can buy G5+ or G5s+ go for them as G4+ is a heater and have different problems for different users.

you should get g5+ which is defiantly good phone than g4+

The G5+ looks much better if you can afford it. As others said, the compass is missed in the G4+. Other than that, it's a great phone with a great battery life and I don't have ghost touch issues if I leave the screen brightness below 50%.

You should not go for g4+
I must tell you this phone heats a lot especially when you record a video, no matter which rom you are on. And there are different issues with different users like ghost touch, screen burn, random shutdowns/reboots,etc.

Nope don't ever pick g4+ when g5+ or g5s+ are way better in heat management and have premium design.

Go for g5+ instead of g4+. I'm currently using the g4+ and recently bought the g5+ for my brother and i must say that g5+ was 100 times better than the g4+. G4+ heats a lot if u play games and browsing with data etc... Whereas the g5+ doesn't even get warm with extreme gaming and multitasking, browsing etc...Also the battery life is terrible in g4+ as we have to charge for 2 times a day (my usage may differ with others) but on the g5+,the battery life is awesome. Note that both are having 3000mah battery but the processors are different which makes the g5+ more battery efficient and no heat rejection. Camera is also better in g5+ even though g4+ also takes good photos. Overall if u want to buy new phone i will 100% recommend g5+ over g4+ as i have seen both phones and used it.

I see lot of ppl recommending g5, but that was not your question!
I find the g4 to have a really nice and active community with a lot of stable and experimental roms. Oreo is soon to be stable.
The g5 is a newer device which will be upgraded to oreo officially, but is a more expensive device and it doesn't have official TWRP nor official lineageOS yet.

I have had many problems with my g4+ and it's replacement from Moto. On my first one I had a massive screen burn in issue, after 5 minutes of charging you could see the status bar icons when the status bar wasn't there. With the replacement, it kept bending so that if you put it on a flat surface only the top and bottom would be touching with the middle arcing upward about a millimeter. I also have had ghost touch issues on the replacement that happened whether or not it was charging. The only fix I found for that was to keep the brightness low. the G4+ is a fantastic phone for the price, if you can get one with no issues. As far as whether or not it is an upgrade from your Motorola Droid Turbo, here is a link to phone arena that compares the specs of the two phones (64 gigabyte models of each). I hope this helps you out, have a great day.

I have just purchased an used Moto G4 Plus XT1644 4GB + 64GB today at B&H Photo in excellent condition (10 out of 10), at least that's how they described it, for $138.50 shipped. It's arriving on Thursday. But I was not aware of these heating issues, screen burn in / ghost touches and so on... So now I'm kinda worried about my decision... My wife had an iPhone 6 and I converted her to a Moto G5 Plus about 3 to 4 months ago. She's very happy with the phone.
I only went with the G4 Plus because of the extra RAM, plenty storage space, external SD card reader and larger screen compared to the G5 Plus (*for the price I paid*). Most importantly, I bought the G4 Plus because it has ElementalX kernel, official Lineage OS support and TWRP as well. The combination of these three kept my Nexus 5 going for 3+ years before it gave up on me a few months ago. My N5 still works but it randomly shuts down and reboots when using demanding tasks like taking photos or when it heats up. As long as I can keep it frozen (out of the freezer - literally) it works just fine though. I've been using a crappy $60 Amazon Prime Exclusive phone, the Blu R1 HD on stock Marshmallow + Magisk / Xposed / Gravity Box / N-ify. Performance is fine considering what I paid for it. Thanks to the infamous fire.apk that plagued the R1 HD for months, I managed to get a full refund for that phone today. So I've got a free phone with malware basically.
I really wanted a 5.5" to 6" phone with good dev support on the cheap but as you know, both the G5 Plus / G5S Plus have a smaller 5.2" and very little dev support (compared to the G4 Plus). So I went with lower price, better dev support and slightly bigger screen on the G4 Plus.
What do you guys think?

Thanks! But have you checked that page out? It's a very random, make a wish type of messages that no one cares to reply based on personal experience with the device. My post was in hopes of a feedback from people who currently own that device that I just bought. Because I was wondering if I should have invested more money on upgrading to the G5 Plus. "Worth the upgrade?" which I honestly think it's still on topic. If no one wants to take the time to entertain that thought it's fine. I just thought I'd share my own thoughts / reasoning behind my purchase of the G4 Plus instead of just "making a wish" that probably no one with answer objectively with authority on the subject. Get it?

Never mind. Bought a brand new G5 Plus 4+64 at Walmart for 154+tax. I think it's a better deal than the G4 Plus I purchased yesterday. I'll compare them both, particularly the screen size difference and max brightness. But I think you can't beat that price on a brand new phone.

Better than Moto X Pure

Hey guys, I'm a Verizon customer and my 2 requirements in a phone are unlockable bootloader and sd card support. Since my options are scarce (CDMA compatibility) I've been using a 64GB Moto X Pure since they launched last year. I recently stumbled across the Moto G4 Plus and noticed that it fits my criteria for a smart phone.
Does anyone who owns a G4 Plus also own a MXP? They seem to be about the same size. The MXP has a better camera and screen resolution while the G4+ has a octa core processor. I'd much appreciate anyone's feedback who owns both phones. How do they compare in normal/heavy use, not just on paper?
Source - http://www.phonearena.com/phones/co...la-Moto-X-Pure-Edition-2015/phones/10053,9694
The Moto X Pure is much better in almost every way.
G4 Plus has a better camera, especially in low light situations. Fingerprint reader is super fast and I use it every day.
And the model with 64GB storage /4GB RAM is fast enough for every need. Who cares what a benchmark say? Nobody uses a benchmark daily...
Screen resolution? 520 ppi vs 401 ppi? Who cares, in order to see that you need to burry your face into the display or, if you are over 40yrs, you need two pairs of glasses to see that density!
PS: That comparison link is wrong, because that's not the US version of G4 Plus, it has the wrong LTE bands!
I ordered one off eBay that someone had lost the IMEI from flashing the wrong rom. Obviously I didn't pay full price. I'm hoping I can flash a stock rom and fix it.
If anyone has a link to the best restore file it would be appreciated. I tried to download from File Factory last night but after an hour or so the download failed. It's a US Moto G4 Plus 64GB.
Or if anyone else has tips about restoring the IMEI that would be great.

Look at the link below, it should be there. It's a link from Root Junky's site and should be good.

Def not a great camera. It is decent and great for the price but not great. It is mediocre at best. The videos are mediocre too.

Thanks I actually found that link last night and downloaded ATHENE_AMZ_MPJ24.139-64_65_cid50_amz.tgz. I have no idea what system version this phone will have installed when I receive it or what the current version is but this one had the newest upload date so I hope it's the newest one.

The last one is the one that it works right now in my XT1644.
Nevermind. The @$$hole had been on XDA every day since he sold me the phone and supposedly shipped it to me. I checked the tracking # yesterday and USPS had never received it. I sent him a message about it. He first replied that he was shipping it tomorrow (today), then immediately replied that his son dropped and busted.
Why sell something on eBay if you're not sure that you want to sell it yet?

Btw you should get better battery life on the g4 because of Smaller resolution and same battery. If I recall the mxp also has 3k mah. The CPU should also use less energy, not sure on that.
Overall, you're downgrading, especially camera. I like the g4 plus even on 2gb memory. It's smooth and decent battery life. Fingerprint is fast. You don't really have a choice imo. You may even opt for the regular g4 imo. Not much difference outside camera.

Good information. Thanks.
I currently have the moto g4 play (Verizon version)
and I'm thinking about getting the Moto X Pure or the Moto G4 for the bigger display and hd calling. I have read that both phones have a problem with overheating. (The Qualcomm snapdragon 808 and 617 processors are known for overheating issues). I would lean toward the Moto G4 but it seems the overheating issue is a bigger problem with the G4 than the Moto X pure.
What are your thoughts on the overheating issues?

I have a G4 Plus and it heats, but it doesnt overheat. I tested playing 3 games at the same time and plugged the TurboCharger for 30m and it got very hot like 47° but look what i was doing.
Heats yes, of course but it doesn't overheat. I have a friend who has a LG G3, that phone really overheats. Reachs 60° only playing a game, and 43° in stock. Insane.

Oh okay. Thanks.
I really like the moto g4 play and feel I would like the moto g4(don't want the plus 'cause I don't need or use a fingerprint sensor and there's not that many upgrades that
justify me getting the plus over the regular g4).
My concern is that I play a lot of music videos on my phone and when I tested a Moto X Pure in store,
the phone got hot after watching a music video on YouTube for only about two or three minutes, so I was like okay don't think I want to mess with that.
I'm thinking it might be the same or worse with the moto g4.
I don't want a fire trap for a phone.
May try the moto g4 and if I do experience constant overheating I'll simply return it.
I personally think it's a mix between:
Better camera, fingerprint sensor (and a good one), & battery life with the g4 plus
vs
Better performance (both cpu and gpu, especially gpu and overall performance) & maybe the fact there is more community support since it's been out for a while, for the x pure.
Can't be asked about the heat problems that some users are having with either, I ran antutu benchmark on both g4 plus and x pure and none got hot to the point where you couldn't hold it or have it feel like it was burning you. US variants of course.

Moto X Style vs. Axon 7 (Europe,Germany)

Hi people, which phone would you prefer in sum (User experience, battery, reception, camera, ROMS etc. )?
I´m running short on time, received the Moto X (Motomaker Edition - no refund possible) as a present today, but also have a sealed Axon at home and refund is running out on Thursday.
I was rootin´ for the Axon bcs thought AMOLED to be more convenient for the eyes @ night !?
Sell the Moto on Ebay or get the refund for the Axon ?
Thanks in advance people!
Both are good and will give you really nice performance. Obviously the Axon is much more premium device. Camera will be better on the Moto X, and software on Moto X is much better than the Axon, but everything else is better on the Axon, thanks to more RAM, better SoC, better speakers and slightly bettery battery. Oh, and the display panel is gorgeous.
I'll start off by saying I love my Axon 7...... It may not seem that way by my replies though?
I had the Moto X Pure (USA Version).... LOVED it! But the battery was smaller than the UK Play version, so I can't answer the battery part (the Moto X Pure had horrible battery, but the fast charging was nice).
Camera - Moto X Pure/Play wins. One of the best Android cameras I've used to date (besides my Samsung S7)
Audio - Axon 7 wins, hands down! While the Moto X Pure/Play isn't too shabby
Rooting - Moto X Pure was simple to unlock the bootloader and install recovery and custom ROMs. I had no audio issues on Android 6.0.1
Custom ROMs - There is a larger selection of ROMs for the Moto X. The A7 only has 2 or 3 custom, all based on stock and the LoS all have audio issues
Reception - My Moto X had the best reception of any phone I've ever owned
Build quality - Axon 7 wins.... My Moto X Pure kept having the speaker grills pop off
Screen - The Moto X has a nice screen, but the A7 isn't too bad. I always set mine to Gorgeous.
Cases - The Moto X has a wider selection of cases available while the A7 only has a hand-full of decent cases.
If you're happy with your Moto X Play.... I'd hang on to it and send back your Axon 7 and wait for the Axon 8 that'll probably come out later this year. They'll have worked out the bugs, but ROOT may still be an issue that takes several months to achieve.
A few things I like and don't like:
- Fingerprint on the Axon 7 is nice to have and you really get used to it
- I miss the "wave" actions on the Moto more than I though I would (where you wave your hand over the screen to show notification)
- Both have issues with finding tempered glass screen protectors as they both have a slightly curved screen
- The Moto is almost "Pure" Android - the Axon 7 has the MiFavor, which is closer to stock than a Samsung or HTC, but annoying enough to use a different launcher (Nova Prime) and hope the get the audio in LoS working so you can get a pure version of Android.
- The UK version of the Axon 7 doesn't seem to get as much love as the USA model.
With Verizon, my battery experience was absolutely horrible until CM14.1 came along. Like, a 6-7% standby battery drain (when there wasn't some battery drain issue) overnight compared to the 1% drop that I see with the Axon. I wasn't that impressed with the screen on time, either. Charging is a world of difference as well. The Moto's turbo charger would get hot and emit coil whine noises. When charging from 0-80% and using the device, I've actually felt it get too hot to comfortably hold. This would also happen to me if I was charging the device in a hot car with the device in direct sunlight. I hope this was just a problem with my device, because it seemed kind of dangerous. The Axon's charging is not only fast (screen on or off), but the phone and charger barely heat up. It's bizarre, really... The display got brighter on the Pure, but loses in every other area (except size) to the Axon. Seeing both devices next to one another, the Pure's display just looks...dull. The performance is night and day. My friend and I bought our XT1575's at the same time. I have since replaced mine with the Axon, but he still has his. I use it now and then when I see him. The UX lag is horrible compared to what I've become accustomed to with the Axon. I still have a great deal of respect for the Pure, but I don't know if I could use it every day knowing about the Axon. I think the speakers on the Pure can get louder than the speakers on the Axon. Louder isn't necessarily better though. I think the speakers on the Axon would win for bass, clarity, and definition. The community support for the Pure is much more extensive than for the Axon. This may change in the future. I'm very pleased with the availability of CM 14.1 for both devices. The bootloader unlock process for the Axon is relatively straightforward...I was able to fix the audio issue on Nougat (distortion at high volumes) with root and Viper.
In my opinion, the Pure's biggest weakness was that it only had 2.5 GB of RAM available to the system. Every time I would look, the device would be starving for RAM. I have included a screenshot showing my running services. As you can see, my device is taking up 2.5> GB of RAM at idle! I guess it really depends on what you want from the device. Official Nougat for the Pure has been pushed back to a May, so that might be another strike against it. At the end of the day, you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with either, but I'd go for the Axon every time.
Thanks for the detailed response.
You guys all seem to praise the US Devices and Support.
How about the Devices that are sold in Germany ?
What would be the best adress to get US Devices and import them to Germany ?
Don´t get me wrong, myself being a former HTC HD2 Lover,
but recently I also get along without using Custom Rom Thingies too (mainly due to lack of time )
Simply using Arrow Launcher, which looks quite a lot like the new Huawei App Drawer ( Don´t know who stole it from the other), works fine for me .
So you guys know some K.O. Points for the Axon 7 European Version , except the reduced max volume due to european law ?
And what about these rumours that the Axon´s 3 Year VIP Guarantee only counts for US and China ?
Dammit , I see myself ending up with both devices, selling Moto would mean multiple 100 € loss, but when using it, it will be damn hard to not keep thinking ´bout the Axon

Why not an OnePlus 3?
I was in the same boat, Style vs Axon 7 and I chose the Axon. Better build quality, better screen, better hardware specs and not that big of a price difference.
But since you already have one, I'd stick with it for a while and see what the future brings us (snapdragon 835).
Yeah you made a point there, but do you think in the next months there will be new interesting devices in the same price range ?
i don´t want to pay 600€ + for a smartphone when it still has major flaws.
As far as i know Snappy 835 is exclusive for Samsung, which is no more an option for me ..
Axon may drop to around 250€ in the next months
Has anybody experience with the Axon´s VIP Guarantee ?
What is the Best Shop to import an US Axon to Germany right now ?
Or shall I sell both , Moto X and Axon, and stay another year with my slowly dying Lumia 950 XL -.-
Dies the battery of the Moto X Pure improve from Android 5to 6 to 7 ?

Best phone for the money?

I am in the US so everything I say is in US dollars, US versions, etc.
I purchased the Motorola X Pure as soon as it came out and was happy with it but lately it has had a lot of issues particularly with GPS. It works fine 90% of the time but that 10% of the time it says "Searching for GPS" while navigating and have caused me lots of problems with missing turns, etc while traveling out of town. Also it is very laggy switching between apps and even just surfing the web. I don't really play games...my average day of use consists of using Chrome to surf the web, using Google Maps for navigation (I use it even when I know where I am going because it notifies of traffic and accidents and advises the best route considering those), and watch videos on YouTube, Netflix, or Hulu. I also take a lot of pictures but not every day but a lot...anybody out there with kids knows you take way more pictures than you need, lol.
Since it was a mid-level phone at release and is a couple years old now I have been looking to replace it. My first thought was the Moto G5 Plus since I have Amazon Prime and can get the higher end model for only $240.
Is there a better phone available (based on my needs mentioned above) under $300? What about under $400? I can MAYBE stretch my budget to $400 but no more and that has to include tax, etc.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I picked up this phone today and only gripe so far coming from the S7 Edge is camera is pretty bad... Not sure if it's enough to push me back to S7 but I'm definitely considering it. Besides the camera I'm not sure what else you'd possibly want at this price point.

Moto z play are about $300 on Swappa. Much better battery life, mod compatible, more premium feeling, bigger AMOLED screen, quite a few ROMs, etc. I love my Z Play!
Rather have the Moto g5 over play. The mods are imho worthless. With mods you might as well spend the money on a s8 or s7
Looks like the ASUS Zenfone 3 is about the same price as the Moto G5 Plus, how do those compare?

My guess is that the AMOLED and bigger battery of Z Play makes the SOT somewhat better. Just because the mods are worthless doesn't mean the device is worse, or that you are committed to buy some mod. Probably one should decide if you prefer 5.2 or 5.5 inch display, and find out if you need dual SIM or longer lasting battery is more important. Also I like the USB-C-plug that you can't put in the wrong way - you know USB is the only plug where you have only two directions, but always need three tries until you get it right
For someone who had a X Pure I'm quite sure Touchwiz is a no-go (for me it is, since I had a Galaxy S3 I won't buy a Samsung anymore), so S7 or S8 are pointless.
Buy oneplus 3t
This is the biggest of an Android phone I'm willing to get. I am eyeing the Xperia X Compact because I want a small phone. If This had NFC for the US version I would have bought it right away, since it doesn't I will have to pass.

I wouldn't use Asus even if I was stranded on top of Mt. Everest! Zf2 burn me with them cause they never update their phones! Zf3 still on 6.0, so is the zf2. So much bloat you can't uninstall with them. Only plus is I think the top of the line zf3 has the 820? Also if you care about ROMs, then I don't think the zf3 has a lot of that going on now. I have a strong feeling the g5 will be packed with roms in no time

I like the OnePlus 3T...but my budget is $300 (can bend enough to be $300 plus tax, shipping, etc but not more than that)
What would be your recommendation within that range? Is there a better phone within that range than the G5 Plus?
Also, I am really only interested in phones with warranty so I don't want to buy a used one on swappa, etc.
Thanks for all the feedback!

I would suggest you to go for it buddy. You'll definitely not gonna mind anything. I don't see any other phone in this price range better than this. Development will be as good as previous generation I think. So I think you should go for it.

I'm very impressed with the g5 plus 64gb version. I had a op3, note 5, s7, s7edge. The features on this make it as good or better than those flagships. Camera and LCD vs amoled are the only drawbacks. Love Moto display and all the gestures, plus killer feature for me is gesture navigation on fingerprint reader, is the bomb! Battery life is stellar!

I had three ZF2s. Phantom touch, 1/3 of the screen went black, and then random hangs in a year and a half.
The first two were under warranty, requiring me to send the phone in, which took like a week and a half.
Total crap.
This phone has been voted best budget phone for the money on many different sites. I guess that could change every month a new phone is released though
I need to get a new phone since my lg G4 died... I find that the OS on Motorola is way better and I have had Samsungs and LG.
I will recommend it, besides any cel will eventually die. So imho I will no longer spend tons of useless money just to be fancy with the mobile phone.

I took advantage of the free $15 offer when you buy a $75 gift card to help pay for my Moto G5 Plus 64GB from Amazon.com (I mention this since you are in the USA). I also got 5% off by using the Amazon.com credit card (5% back in Amazon.com "points"), and, I had about $112 in "gift card" credit. I figured since I had made my OnePlus One last for more than three years, and I was able to talk customer service into giving me $12 off the $299 price, I couldn't say no to getting a new phone any longer. I might prefer a 5.5" screen over 5.2" but I'm not sure, I figured it'd be nice to try, see how it feels to have a slightly smaller phone in my pocket, and, maybe ever so slightly easier to use it one handed? I find that I often use my phone one-handed and I can't quite reach sometimes.
On the plus side, I'm really excited about the lower megapixel camera with it's fairly large sensor and wide aperture lens at F/1.7 - I know some people have complained about the camera on this phone, but I expect to get great results regardless - I don't know why it's not working well for them?
The only thing that really upsets me about the Moto G5 Plus is the Micro USB charging port instead of the new standard USB C port. I may have to see about doing some kind of wireless charging mod to my phone because I'm really getting tired of Micro USB.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't understand why I see a few users saying the camera is bad - website reviews are liking the camera, and, it is the same chip as the "high end" Galaxy S7 cameras. Is the camera APP really that bad? Hopefully any issues will be addressed by either A) update or B) 3rd party camera APP/tweaks/mods.

Moto z play are about $300 on Swappa. Much better battery life, mod compatible, more premium feeling, bigger AMOLED screen, quite a few ROMs, etc. I love my Z Play!

Actually, what I've red from people that have had the Z and now moved to the G5 Plus is that the G5 Plus has better battery life, presumably because the newer 625 CPU is more efficient.

What do you think which chipset is being used in the Moto Z Play?
(Hint: Same!)
Think you are talking about Moto Z, not Moto Z Play.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Moto G5S Plus, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Moto G5S Plus is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

So does that mean SD 820 / 825 is optimized for greater battery backup or its just the SD 625 that does the magic?
Just curious to know.

both chipsets are great and manufactured on 14nm FinFET Process...
both are battery friendly also due to 14nm process !
for great performance + power efficiency we can consider 820 and ,
for mid-range performance + power efficiency we can consider 625 (625 performs well , not doubt )
Really worth of money

I am in love with this baby. Only the thing I am upset with Moto team is of the disabled LED light near the front camera. What logic is that? If that is for rooted phones then why rooting should void warranty? Nonsense! They don't want customers to enjoy the features in legal way.

Because moto display wakes up at the slightest hint of movement. If I place it on my bed and I sit on the other end of bed it will light up. That's going to waste a lot of battery
1 star less for the camera.

Can't speak for Pixel but can speak for Nexus 6P.
I loved my Nexus. Had been a Nexus user since the Nexus 4. The 6P, when it worked, was the capstone of the Nexus range. Gorgeous big screen, well built, excellent performance. I would still be using it now if the well known battery issues (check the forums) hadn't come and bit me. Replaced the battery twice and maybe eked another 6 months out of the phone but I realised recently I needed to get rid of the 6P now if it was to have any resale value.
Looking around there was nothing that real worked as a successor. Wasn't taken with either of the first gen Pixels, and the prices of comparable current phones to the 6P is just insane. Even if I could afford £800-odd I wouldn't pay it for a phone.
For a replacement my criteria was:
5.5 inch or better screen
Half decent ram and processor (so min 3Gb and a Snapdragon 625)
Decent battery life
Ideally no more than £300 - or £400 for a demonstrably premium device.
I had been looking at importing one of the Xiaomi devices, and had briefly looked at a few of the Motorola devices. The G5 series screens were too small, and while I considered the Z Play range they didn't really hit the killer piece/performance mark for me.
When I read the reviews of the G5S Plus I thought "hmmm" - £250 and fulfils my performance, screen size and price criteria. Battery seemed acceptable if not stellar. What sold me was a video where I saw the use of the fingerprint scanner for swipe navigation and the gestures for one handed mode. I'd used a custom rom on the 6P with a one handed mode (which is essential for a big screen) and knowing the G5S Plus had this as stock was the deal clincher.
Have been running it for a little under a week and I have to say I'm impressed.
The screen is very nice. The colours don't "pop" like on the 6P but otherwise it is excellent. Clear and bright, very visible in the day even under direct sunlight. The difference in resolution (1080p v 1400ish p) is not very visible (to my eyes).
Build quality is excellent and it feels just as premium as the 6P did.
The phone runs fluidly and in daily use for email, browsing and general comms needs the experience is pretty much indistinguishable from the 6P. I am also enjoying the swipe to navigate, which is very intuitive and gives me back some of the screen real estate I lost from the 6P.
I am not someone who is particularly bothered about cameras. The couple of pictures I have taken look like the objects I was taking a picture of. The rest I'll leave to someone who cares to give a judgement on!
Overall though, I am very pleased. You get a lot of phone for your money. It is perhaps not quite as good value as the some of the Xiaomi devices, but if you are in the UK I think you'll struggle to find something that's better value and works as well without importing (with all the complications that go with it).
How much would I give the Nexus 6P when the battery is fully charged and it isn't randomly powering off? 9 out of 10 - marvellous phone, the best I've ever had. I will miss it.
How much would I give the Moto G5s? A very close honourable second with 8 out of 10. Does virtually everything the Nexus does (for me) at a much more economical price.

That is my biggest gripe with this phone too. Disabling the led notification light makes no sense. I don't like the Moto notifications. Turning on the screen again and again at the smallest movement uses a lot of battery.
Otherwise, this is a great phone. I moved from the LG Stylo 2 plus. I really like the screen, more RAM, faster processor, and fingerprint scanner on the front.
The phone was good, very good in terms of performance. But I had one only for 11 days because my screen cracked after just a 3 feet drop (!). Sold it and bought a Mi A1, and the latter one is better.
Pretty solid phone. The stock ROM is very sufficient with a non-too-shabby camera and focus features, however I found using Open Camera yielded faster and crisper results. The battery life is quite expected to last a day and charge times are usually an hour and a half with fast charge. There's a much anticipated Oero update on its way which might improve a lot of the features. On custom ROMs, this instance being Oreo, it is very much faster and succintly utilises battery and RAM to apply a wide variety of tweaks. The dev environment is quite good for the XT1806 because of its prevalence in the US, however compatability of ROMs with other NFC-enabled variants (such as the XT1805) would be appreciated. Overall, very solid phone and worth it's price tag.
Just order my 32GB Sanders, Open box from Best Buy, for $212. Its basically new and comes with all accessories, so I couldn't pass up the price. Less than I paid for my G5 Plus! Excited to get it next Tuesday and will post my thoughts on whether it was worth the upgrade over Potter once I receive it.
I could only give this phone 4/5 stars.
I'm glad I pre-ordered the phone directly from Motorola because I paid $299 USD for the 64GB US version and received it as soon as available. It seems to be worth more, now.
I'm NOT glad I ordered the phone at all, because despite having very acceptable specs at a good price, the radios seem to work terribly. It's not my area, it's definitely the phone. Both my girlfriend on her Verizon iPhone and me on my previous Virgin Mobile Moto G3 had 4G LTE all the time at home, and most of the time driving around. Occasionally my girlfriend's VZW phone would have service in rural pockets where my VM/Sprint phone lost network, so for the G5S Plus I switched my carrier to Straight Talk with a ST/Verizon SIM.
Since day one, my G5S Plus has NEVER shown full bars, at any service level. Most of the time AT HOME, I have 1 or 2 bars of oldschool 4G (non-LTE) -- occasionally it drops to 2 bars of 3G and most of the time when I'm driving around it's either a low 3G signal or a low 1X signal - even in the middle of Albany, a city well covered by Verizon, there are spots where MY phone drops to 1X! Meanwhile my girlfriend still has 4G LTE on her iPhone.
This is getting to be a real dealbreaker for me. I found a thread someone else posted about having more or less the same problem. He was using Verzion as well, through a different MVNO. Is this phone known to have poor performance when used on Verizon's network? Lemme ask a different question, is this phone known to have GOOD service on ANY particular network? For anyone?? I would love to know what experience the majority of people are having. Maybe another poll...
I've noticed this problem exists regardless of the ROM (tried stock nougat ROM, lineage oreo, gzr validus oreo - all the same result). My guess is the all-metal body wasn't designed with the pre-existing G5 Plus hardware in mind, since the only things they changed are the screen size, cameras and the chassis, maybe they goofed and the radio inside the metal body sucks. Or it's not selecting the proper APN automatically. I suppose there is a small chance it's a software issue which may be addressed with a future radio update, but for now I'm miffed.

I'm glad you got such a good deal. Actually back in September, Amazon had the G5 Plus 64gb (W/OUT ads) for $229 so I bought it. The phone I received worked fine and I don't mind smaller screens, but there was a sort of banding effect in the screen. It was like a transparent layer between the LCD and the backlight where every 10 pixels down, or so, there was a faint line. No matter what was on the screen, I always noticed the banding. I figured it must be a dud so I asked Amazon to send me a replacement. Second G5 Plus looked exactly the same. I returned both. A month later I preordered the G5S Plus and while I know the graphics driver and pixel output are identical to its predecessor, it is a different display panel and this one is flawless.
So my G5s plus arrived today and I've had a little time with it. Here are my initial thoughts on this as a replacement to my G5 plus.
A lot of people might think it's silly to get the G5s plus if you already own the G5 plus, but I'm glad I did. This phone is what the G5 plus should of been originally. The build quality alone is a nice upgrade. It feels so much nicer and sturdier in the hand. And the buttons feel much nicer when pressed and not mushy at all. I actually love the buttons on this device lol.
The little extra screen space is nice and the panels used in this phone are clearly of better quality then the G5 plus. Battery life seems equal to the G5 plus and the camera, sadly, is about equal too. The camera should of been a bigger improvement and is probably my only complaint. It's still a serviceable camera though.
All this added to the fact that I got it cheaper than I paid for my G5 plus, and it has 1GB more ram, doesn't having me feeling any regrets. This is an amazing phone for $214.
one of the worst phones i have ever bought slow laggy near impossible to restore to stock if you unlock bootloader either keep a rom or throw in a bin avoid the phone and motorolla in general not a good phone
I realy like this phone . Good battery backup, cant get this much battery backup from any other 3000 mah battery phone i have used. Minimal heat from screen in brightness conditions, only camera is a bit disappointed, compared to my moto x play. Sound clarity is also good.

Thinking to buy G5 Plus,is it worth buying?

Guys, i'm gonna ask you, is it worth buying Moto G5 Plus right now?
My Grand 2 got a wifi problem so I really need to buy new phone.
Or should I buy other phone? Like Huawei P10 Lite
Yeah it is great and the prices have been coming down since the G5s Plus was announced.
For the money, it can't be beat really. Things to consider though are a lackluster camera and screen. They are both serviceable, but not top of the line by any means. The screen is almost unseeable in direct sunlight with brightness all the way up. The camera is just lackluster all the way around.
...however, the battery life is something dreams are made of and makes it easier to overlock its other short comings. If I had to buy it again, I would.

Without knowing your provider, your typical phone usage and other requirements we can do nothing but a guess if the G5 Plus would be worth buying... for you.
For me, very light voice usage, very light texting, occasional email checking and web surfing the phone has been great. Gone as long as five days between charges. Its quick with no lags (64GB non Amazon Prime subsidized version). For me the camera is adequate and works fairly well when used properly. Overall I'm currently very happy with the phone.
The only downsides are the two major issues with this phone that Moto/Lenovo has yet to address and which are well discussed in other threads (and on the Lenovo support site). Low speaker volume on the headset and garbled calls when VoLTE is enabled on Verizon Wireless. That and the fact its still on Android 7.0 is another mark against it. No word in site from Moto/Lenovo on when or even if the two major issues with the phone will be fixed or when they will release security updates for Android.
My wife and I have both been on LG G3s for the last several years. They were released about the same time as your Grand 2. My wife's phone started to have hardware issues, so it was time to get her something else. For a mid range phone at a bargain price, I think the G5 is a great choice. We got the 32gb non ad version off Amazon for $180. You can't go wrong at that price IMHO. Obviously it won't compete with today's flagship phones for things like the camera, but it will be far and away better than your Grand 2's camera. She loves the finger print reader and we never used NFC (which is really the only feature missing from the G5 plus), so it was a great choice for her.
