Cannot pull down notification bar and onscreen buttons do not work? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just uploaded a couple photos from Google Photos to my dropbox folder, and I could not open recent apps to close them once I was finished.
It would go to a blank, black screen. Finally it closed but then my phone rebooted it self.
Upon rebooting I now cannot use the onscreen buttons, and am unable to pull the notification bar down. The phone also doesn't connect to wifi, but is connected to my carrier though I cannot use internet. If I open an app I can't get out of it either unless I use the back button.
I've tried rebooting, and I've tried wiping the cache. Does anyone know what's gone wrong here?
Even in 'safe mode' I can't pull down the notification bar more than the first small drawer and I still cannot use the home or recent apps button.
My nexus is completely stock by the way.
Edit: Factory restored. Fixed my issue.

Magic Button - Phone Icon Bug?

I noticed.. when I open up my phone and try to close it, it will not close. I try to close all, close it individually, and the phone icon will just sit there no matter what I do.
So then I go in and check the "Dont show when inactive" and it finally got rid of it..
Now I noticed when I load up my phone, the icon isn't a phone icon anymore.. instead I get a broken MS note icon thing..
Anyone else have this problem?
I've tried to go back in and uncheck the "dont show when inactive", and the icon is still broken.. also tried a soft reset.. still a broken icon.
The Phone app does not close once you open Speed Dial or History. This is not a problem. Get a better Close Button app like HandySwitcher or, even better, wClose.

[Q] NST - not sure if rooted..

So I've rooted my Nook a long time ago but now had some problems with it so did a hard reset (using this method:
Code:
Turn off your N2E completely.
Turn it on again by holding down power, and then,
as soon as the screen flashes, begin holding down the bottom page turn keys on the left and right of the device until the screen flashes with a message asking if you want to do a factory reset.
Click the home key twice, and you should be on your way.
Then, since I couldn't enter the Android home screen (launcher) I tried to root it using the Lifehacker guide, but it turned out unsuccesful (when I entered the SD card, I didn't have the ROOTED FOREVER screen, just the ordinary Root Forever). I also had a B&N registration process on startup, which I gladly did. I skipped the android registration process, but didn't get the option to select the launcher. So now I'm on the usual Nook Home screen and can't change it, but when I hold the NOOK button pressed I got a message "no recent applications", which I think indicates a presence of Android? So how can I get the android launcher again? Searching for launcher does not work
The question is whether you have a launcher installed and whether it is the preferred activity.
You can try ADB and look for the launcher.
Then you can look at /data/system/packages.xml and see if you selected the stock Home.apk as your preferred-activities instead of the launcher.

unwanted lock screen appeared. help?

several weeks ago a new lock screen appeared - out of nowhere - and now won't go away. I've tried to manually go into setting and change it - no luck. When I restart my s5, my original screen (which is still selected in settings) comes up, but is then taken over by this lock screen that won't go away. I'm running Themer - thought it was associated with that, but I've since cleared cache/data/deleted it, with no luck. This thing doesn't keep time, give any notifications, or swipe responsively. A real PIA. It also affects the notification bar - won't give me my notifications. Same with the lock screen - occasionally I will swipe my screen and see the original notification bar, but mostly this new one. Any thoughts? I'm really not keen on wiping the whole thing are starting from scratch.
A screenshot would be helpful, it sounds like part of another app you have installed.

solution to blackscreen on backscreen

from time to time I got my backscreen all black, mirroring still works but unable to bring back the widgets, usually I restarted the device to recover but now I have found a much more simple solution, just launch the tutorial, and the widgets are back !
hi, i have the same problem, currently running Lollipop.
I've find out that when this happens you can "refresh" the backscreen by launching the YotaHub app and do a long press on the home button, then swipe to the refresh icon on the left.
Still don't know what causes this issue

new recent apps behavior

LG-H918, been a great phone. Not rooted, all original.
As of today (first I noticed) when you touch the recent apps square, the various apps appear, and you can scroll through them. Each time I attempt to select whichever app, the phone blanks very quickly and returns to the home screen.
I can clear the apps in the recent apps screen by swiping and using the x.
If I try split screen on apps that are able to use it, the first app appears at the top, and when I try a second, the second blanks and the home screen appears on the bottom half. I then can expand the upper app to fill in the whole screen.
I've repeatedly restarted the phone, and also shut down and removed the battery. No effect.
Is there a setting or something I may have done to cause this?
