Hi,
First off I'd like to say I'm new here, secondly... I've been trying to fix my phone because no matter how many times I try to fix it - it won't budge.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which I've had for a few months and since the beginning when I try to connect it to my computer... It won't recognize it, but it will make a sound of recognition.
I've tried installing "ADB" installers, universal drivers and Samsung KIES (Samsung's OWN software won't work... Rediculous and unacceptable)... I installed some sort of "USB Mass Storage Controller" on the phone itself as the app gave me an "MTP" option that the phone alone does not provide - the result was that the phone was recognized but it was also continuously making a sound of recognition and a system process on my phone kept saying it "stopped working" something about "media".
I'm mentally exhausted from this situation. When things don't work as they were intended it gets me frustrated... and as you can imagine from that last line I've been infuriated at my phone and computer for the last hour as I've finally taken the time to fix this issue and neither the computer nor phone will budge. I have pretty much given up and that's why I'm here... asking for help.
The phone is running stock android Lollipop and is rooted (otherwise the mass storage controller wouldn't have worked... according to comments on it on YouTube).

I'm not sure what you mean by 'changed USB cable USB Port'... Maybe you mean have I checked other USB ports on my PC, in which case.. no.
I never thought to look in device manager because this seems more like an issue with the "phone" and not "PC".
Your question searched.
Change USB Port on PC.
Use original samsung cable .
Install Samsung usb driver.
Are the stock answers .

You have the Canadian version of the note 3?
Installing the Samsung drivers should be enough to let the phone appear in windows as a removable device without having root access.
If the phone isn't recognised by the computer, have you tried using different usb cables attached to different usb ports on the computer?
Does the phone charge properly?
Jiggle the usb cable when connected in the phones port .
Kinda worked...
I plugged my phone into the back of the computer and the computer recognizes and shows the phone in 'my computer' beforehand I installed the Samsung drivers.
But I have a continuous process popping up saying "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped working" this will pop up 1-3 times every 5-10 minutes ever since I installed that USB Mass Storage app on the play store... Clearly, it did something wrong to the phone.
Also, since my phone apparently WILL connect to the computer now, I'd like to try to put CyanogenMod or crDroid on this thing to update it as Lollipop is fairly out-dated.
Factory reset.
Flash the rom of your choice .

Thank you for your suggestion, but I'm afraid that your suggestion comes across as vague to me. I'm no phone expert, I just know enough to get by.
I wiped the cache and that didn't seem to do anything and if I do a factory reset won't that just reset my phone?
You said you wanted to put a custom rom on phone.
Decide your rom and follow its instructions .

I had trouble connecting my Note 3 to PC, because of the kernel. Changed the kernel and it worked. Try flashing a different kernel (you do this by copying/downloading the kernel into the phone and then entering custom recovery [which you can install with Odin if you didn't already] and flashing the kernel from there).
I find the instructions to most of these operations very perplexing.

I have this phone and everytime i connect it to usb i Get the Message
"USB Device Not Recognized" error message...I have installed all the drivers i could possible find on the internet and the error still pops up...i ahve tried using the phone in USB Debugging mode to no avail what so ever...
Someone Please help if there's a genius out there...I really love this phone
Uninstall the Samsung drivers off your computer. Then reinstall make sure that have the correct version windows 32 bit or 64 bit for the correct operating format. Make sure you give admin rights to it. you can find these drivers in the Noob bible by S15274N in the Gen section. I am assuming there is not a problem with your phone. If you have a friend, check it on their computer, that's an easy way to rule out phone issues. That should resolve what ever problem you have.
There ia another way to check, that is have a friend with odin (or you) and see if Odin recognizes, if it does, then you got it solved or at the very least Odin back to stock and reinstall a new rom, this will solve all these issues as well.
Hope you get it, good luck
Had an issue with my brother in laws comp not recognizing his vibrant. Took an hour or two to get his phone recognized. I think we ended up using the drivers from pdanet instead of the official danny drivers. First try getting your phone to work on another comp. Will help narrow down the issue by 50%

Windows cannot recognize my vibrant!
Hopefully someone can help me out as I am having the
same problem with my computer not recognizing my phone.
The thing is that I am already running Froyo stock 2.2
and at the time I was able to update it to 2.2 my
computer recognized my phone without a problem. I have
been reading the forums for a while now and the only
time anyone had this problem was when they first bought
the phone when it was released but here is my problem.
After updating Kies mini and installing the official
Samsung drivers from the Samsung website I plug in the
phone and i get the error that windows does not
recognize the device. I have tried this on Windows Xp
and Windows 7 on 2 different laptops and got the same
error everytime. So what I did was while on Windows Xp I
uninstalled the unknown driver and I kept plugging and
unplugging the phone and uninstalling the unknown driver
until I got my computer to finally recognize my phone.
Once my computer recognized my phone I Then started
downloading the recent update, when the download was
done as soon as my phone went into download mode my
computer kicked out my phone and gave me the error that
windows does not recognize the device and at that time
Kies mini gave me the emergency recovery notice which I
didnt have to use because the phone booted fine without
fail.
You should also know that prior to the recent
update from tmobile for minor bug fixes I tried to root
my vibrant using the superoneclick root program. Upon
doing this after fighting with my vibrant and my laptop
to communicate with each other my computer recognized
the phone and I attempted to root. Then I got the
looping message and at that time windows did not
recognize my device which then messed up my modem and I
had to do a system restore. So after weeks of fustration
trying to root and now not able to downlaod the recent
update I am now asking for your help as XDA has been
there for us all. I have tried samsung drivers, kies mini
drivers and pdanet drivers and get the same windows
doesn't recognize my device everytime. Does anyone have
any ideas as what I can do to get my computer to
recognize my phone as I can not do anything until my
computer and my vibrant get along. Your help is greatly
appreciated XDA thanks for all that you do!
do you guys have Samsung kies installd??

You know that's the only thing that I haven't tried should I pick one up from T-Mobile or were should I get one?
I am getting the same error and i tried a buddy's cord and it still did the same thing. Not really sure what happened. My phone was working fine just a few days ago. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the large amount of Windows Updates that just happened.
Try uninstalling your drivers and install these. I had the same problem and then I used this and it has worked on every computer. Heck even worked when I hooked up my SGS2
http://www.multiupload.com/FUL878MTJH
I had the same issue. It is a phone problem and I had to get a warranty replacement. No combo of cables or drivers would fix mine.
Well after uninstalling and reinstalling, trying new drivers, restarting countless number of times, troubleshooting through the device manager, I had the genius idea to restart my phone in a last ditch effort before i gave up and it worked.
Now i feel somewhat like a dodo. Rule #1 - Restart

Well I tried those drivers from that link you provided and no dice. Im going to pick up a new usb cord from Tmobile tomorrow and see if that might be the problem. I can always use a 2nd cord for charging I guess.

That would be the logical next step.. just to verify, you have restarted the phone and computer since installing the drivers right? If you have then its most likely the cord. Its weird these cords seem to have been giving me problems more than any previously owned ones ie regular usb or even my amp cord which I step on and rip out the amp more than i'd like to admit

Makes sure that when you uninstall your drivers to restart your PC then reinstall and give a shot. Of course, also make sure you are using the right 64x or 86x driver.

my darn phone won't boot unless I use same battery. I can't get my laptop to recognize phone even in boot loader mode. The only way I can boot phone is to battery pull or plug it in. I'm stuck. Can't odin without pc seeing it, wives phone works great same pc same cable same batteries. Can't shut it off as plugging it in reboots it.... Can't do usb storage....
Tried:
1) I installed several roms after clearing everything, factory reset, and nothing works. I even reinstalled clockwork. Please help.... 2) my wived phone works with my pc and other batteries.
3) wives phone on same rom
4) I have same issue from stock rom or my current rom clean gb even without any personal apps or changes

Dang..... Nope..... Pc doesnt reconize.....i had fingers crossed.. Hummm.. ItS like phone is stuck in some sort of boot mode....
Awhile back i deleted the boot animation and shutdown animation files... I wonder if that did something. Since then clean gb rom has installed new animations files which work..

Not to sound dumb, but are you using the same cord as your wife to try and make transfers? I have a computer in my living room, with 2 different USB Cords that my wife and I use for charging in the evenings. One of them connects to the computer properly, the other is unreliable for data and wont ever recognize a phone attached to it. Figured I'd ask so you can rule that out.
Also if the USB port is plugged into a hub, or front of the PC, try moving it to a USB port in the back of your PC that is directly attached to the motherboard. Also make sure there is nothing inside your phone USB slot. I have had some crap get in there (hence the slider on top I NEVER close when I unplug it, ) and it wouldn't connect to PC either.
These are both obvious solutions but we might as well try and start there. Let me know. I'd say uninstall/reinstall the drivers on the computer also, but if one phone works, and the other doesn't so it's not the drivers.
I had a similiar problem where my GF's phone connected fine with USB debugging on but my phone wouldn't. Tried goin back to stock...everything. Finally just put USB debugging on, plugged my phone in, went to Device Manager and where it said Samsung Android, I hit update drivers from Windows Update. Took like 20 minutes but everything worked fine after that.
I am using same chord and port as I did with my wives phone. Good question. I cleaned the contacts in the usb port still nothing. I had usb debugging on... Just tried it with it off nothing.... I really think I may have garbage data or something messing it up. When I installed ask these roms over the last year I only cleared data like once every 10-20 rom loads our when the rom did it itself. I've never had any issues til now.

If it comes up as unknown device then you'll need to go into the device manager and unistall the software for it. Then advance install the drivers for the unknown device it should then recognise the phone and install the Samsung usb composite device, gadget serial control, and the Samsung mobile Modem. Hope this helps

Samsung Galaxy S2 Stuck in ODIN Mode
I too have a similar issue.
My Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 fails to connect to my computer (also tried another computer and different usb cable), after a failed attempt to upgrade to ICS 4.0. The phone will not load up now to 'normal' operating mode.
It will only come up to the message:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I can no longer get into Recovery or Download modes. At least none that work. (See below)
I also built and tried the USB jig solution, which does power on the phone, but it then comes up and says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME" GT-19100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
Any ideas?
Perhaps you can ask in the correct Epic Touch thread instead of the Epic with the keyboard thread. More likely someone there will be able to help you.

Do you have the usb drivers installed correctly? Or try another usb port/ cable.
IVE put the USB driver in the c drive along sid the KIES and still it says its (USB) not recognised. Is there something else i could use instead ,i didnt like kies anyway.I tried to get airdroid to work (ive had that for 3 years) but it doesnt handle software (my phone) 4.4.2 it only does 4.3. It says FORBIDEN.FAILED TO SEND MESSAGE on my PC.
Most likely you are using an outdated version of Kies. There are multiple versions of Kies, ensure that you install the latest version of Kies. Then open Kies and have it detect your phone. That is by far the easiest way to install the proper driver for your S5 model. After the driver is in place you can close Kies and never use it again. Or uninstall it if you wish.
Do not use an USB hub, connect directly to your phone. If you have ongoing issues, use a different USB cable and port. Ensure that you are using a data cable, not a charging (only) cable that has the data lines shorted. If your PC has USB driver issues in general, then you'll need to resolve those issues first or use a different PC.

You are juggling too many unnecessary variables. Try to simply that and don't skip checking any of the points.
I have no idea what you mean by plug it in the mains? And at least until you solve this you should not be using a cradle, hub or anything else. As I suggested earlier, connect the phone directly to your computer USB hub. And if you have ongoing problems, try a different cable, USB port or even PC.
Making an assumption that the cable that came with the phone is good enough is counter productive. It's not impossible that it may be damaged or have some problem. Borrow or buy another cable, to eliminate one more possible cause of your issue.
Retrace and double check each step. As soon as you make an assumption that it's not worth checking x step because it couldn't possibly be the cause, you are skipping a possible solution. Make sure that you are using the latest Odin, make sure that you installed it from windows administrator mode, connect directly to the PC's USB port, different cable, etc. If you are methodical, you'll resolve the problem.
Good luck

Have you activated developer oprions and usb debug?

I doubt it is a driver issue because I have tried multiple systems and these systems recognize other phones instantly
its the same from my phone sadly i didnt find any firmware for this its a clone i think
Have a note 4 on a custom rom- android kitkat. Was working fine, until i wiped data/cache a few times in TWRP recovery to do a clean install of the rom. Phone restarted without an OS, and then i couldn't get pass the boot logo screen. Couldn't flash any rom in recovery. So i did a restore thru TWRP from a backup. So now the phone boots, but it pc won't recognize it. Everytime i plug it, I get "One of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". Under device manager, I get "Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)".
Things I have tried:
-Uninstalled usb drivers and let windows reinstall,
-at least 5 different usb cables
-at least 3 different Samsung oem usb cables
-other usb ports on the PC
-3 different pc (all with same- so im guessing its a problem with the phone)
-physically tried to push up the usb port on the phone- bad connection (someone recommended on google search)
- even when as far to reinstall windows OS
-*#0808# and set it to AP, MTP + ADB
-yes usb debugging is enabled
-download mode (odin does not see the phone, so cannot flash stock/custom rom
-diferent versions of odin
-different version of Samsung usb drivers
-have other samsung phones (note 5, and s6) and windows recognize those.
-phone does charge thru usb
need to get phone working again

Honestly man search my username ziggsta2 I had the same issue I had to buy another note 4 and even this used phone I got off eBay has the same problem when I wiggled the micro USB cord up and down I got it to connect, I don't suggest you doing this, but what might work is taking a very small piece of plastic and cleaning out your USB port on your phone, I believe these ports go bad after awhile as I have encountered this twice on two separate devices maybe you have a different issue but theres my two cents

i have tried. at this point i think it's hardware failure with the usb port. Stupid buying those cheap usb cables probably damaged the port because it seems to require a little more force than samsung cable. Planning ordering one and replacing. hopefully i don't do more damage. Had this phone for a long time and miss flashing roms on it.
