I got my Xiaomi Mi A1 last week
I noticed there is no support for GALILEO gnss (at teat according to the app "GPS test")
According to Qualcomm the sd625 does supporto GALILEO in conjuction with Android Nougat
Are we gonna experience the same situation as for the LTE bands support from Cinese manufacturers?!?!?
Is there some way to hack the Qualcomm GPS module firmware thus enabling the GALILEO costellation?!?!?
regards
Up. I have the same question, Snapdragon says that 625 is compatible with Galileo but Xiaomi doesn't have it in the list so who is right or it's the OEMs task to integrate the support?
In europe is ok, i see 4-6 galileo satelites.

I cannot see any Galileo satellites in EU with my Mi A1. Seems like they have disabled that feature.. :/
Latest OTA and baseband here..."GNSS view" from plastore shows 11 GNSS and 7 Galileo sattelites in Berlin/Germany.

Apparently with GPS test app I cannot see Galileo satellites in this phone. With GNSS view app I can see 7 Galileo satellites!

Yes, confirmed...GPS Test only shows GNSS sattelites, no Galileo ones.
Confirmed with GNSSTest app I can see at least 3 Galileo (from Italy) so it seems to be working and supported!

GNSS VIEW just shows you the supposed position of the satellites....like a sky map does with the stars
The satellites are shown according to agps data
the embedded gps is used only to know your position and then show the satellites that are supposed to be in your sky area
I've tested this GNSS view and it shows the Galileo satellites even on my Nexus 5x, but the sd808 DOES NOT SUPPORT GALILEO
Yeah, tested with several tools now...Galileo satellites not visible/found. So it's up to Xiaomi to enable Galileo support via firmware update...
We need more people posting in official Xiaomi forum for to request Galileo support.

Indeed , with newer version of the app allowing satellite filtering I get no reception for Galileo.
Official Oreo beta testing is in progress.

I think it's worth asking now as beta testers also for Galileo support...

Same here. All of my HTC phones had excellent GPS while my Samsung Galaxy S2 - Epic Touch was so bad that it was unusable. The Note however is on a different level. Super fast locking and dead on accurate. Used Google navigation today to find a church. Was pretty impressive.

GLONASS it's a pro GPS chipset...
just EXAMPLE:
If regular phone (with out Glonass) finds 8-9 satellites, of them are working only 3-4.
The phone with GLONASS finds 19 satellites and 17-18 working from them.
any questions people?

I did a test with a colleague. We put my Note and his non-GLONASS phone side by side and used "GPS Status". His phone got a fix faster than my Note and both phones saw the same amount of satellites. I wanted to check if my Note finds Glonass but I can't really tell. His phone was T-mobile MyTouch. I was disappointed

I would really like to know the answer to this question too. Since GPS is global, I really need to educate myself about GLONASS before I test this stuff out.
However, as long as the GPS is working better then on the S II I'm happy.
Try GPS Test. Satellites with numbers over 60 = GLONASS.

I've "educated" myself about the GLONASS system now. While doing so I read about the Galileo system for EU. That seems to be something promising.
I think it's cool that Galileo provide both way communication with satellites. How cool apps could spawn from this... =)

Not soon, and the prospects are unclear. Not for Galaxy Note.
Yeah, I love the GPS on the Note, with mine old HTC Desire and I cant even get a lock at home. Over 1Hour waiting and not a freaking lock, even locked and then lose it all the time.
With the Note, get lock within 20 sec at home and I just luvvvvvvv it.
my note 16 sattelites indoor, cousing S2 4 indoor
I tested mid-air in flight and it had GPS

Never managed to lock during flight with my Atrix. I believe due to lack of internet connection.
Perhaps the barometer fixes that...
Cool! Which application is that?
I would suggest next time to use OpenGPS. You can record the whole travel and then replay it in Google earth via KML export/email It doesn't require internet access for recording (though the display of the map will be gray)

Power? This is Chuck Norris of phones!
My understanding is that commercial GPS chipsets are restricted to locks above 500 kph (or mph) by the US gubberment. Is it perhaps the GLOSNASS support that is allowing the high speed locking ?
I found the following on another forum talking about ITAR limits that I cannot post a link too as I be a noob:
"Many GPS receivers are restricted in dynamics for military
reasons--dynamics not exceeding--
Dynamics:
Acceleration 4g (39.2 m/s^2)
Motional Jerk 20 m/s^3
Operational limits
Altitude < 18,000 m or velocity < 515 m/s
Either limit may be exceeded but not both (in non-military GPS
receivers).
These restrictions do not apply to the Space Shuttle or LEO satellites
making use of GPS signals. You can always build your own receiver
without restrictions of any kind."
my xperia ARC locked on a flight to HK, it took about 5 mins of holding it to the window but it did lock.
I read somewhere that Glonass satellites are numbered between 45 and 65. Didn't check it during this flight, will see next time what satellites are used in fix.

Yes, I am specifically looking to have the ability of
Hiding apps,
Removing the navigation bar when using the navigation circle,
Double tap when driving,
Customisation,
Better Dock and home screen,
and Softtouch
as this gem is capable of all of them. Otherwise for a few "Bugs fixed" and "Security patches" wouldn't wanna see another 1GB of storage and memory wasted.
Plus the Chinese version has a different story and nothing to do with the international version. That is why it matters.

Hey there,
has someone heard whether the Oneplus 5 supports the Galileo positiong system? As the Snapdragon 835 supports Galileo I would suggest, but the Snapdragon 834 also did support Galileo but the Oneplus 3 for example didn´t.

Tomorrow will be even hotter i`am afraid. Here is a list of devices supporting Galileo atm http://www.usegalileo.eu/EN/inner.html#data=smartphone and chipsets.
Specs page shows: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou. If the 835 already supports it maybe it can be added later via a software update? Until they officially list it I would say the answer is no.

Could you elaborate little your testing method? How long did you wait until the Galileo satellite was found, was it outdoors etc. At the moment it seems that OP5 might have a partial Galileo support but for some reason it doesn't work well. (Galaxy S8 found four Galileo satellites immediately.)

Sorry, my English isn't good enough for it.
Now tested again and found 4 satellites outdoor (clear sky), and as I see it is more accurate than OP3. Tested same time same place. I don't have much time right now because of my job.
can you please post a screenshot of the galileo sattelites on opo 5?

I posted a question about the Galileo support at Oneplus chat. The customer service guy didn't have an answer but he asked from their tech support. Finally he received an answer and the Galileo is not officially supported. I'm glad to find out that it still seems to be unofficially working even though Oneplus does not officially support it.
Galileo is working too here with GPS TEST

I would assume you mean Galileo as the symbols represent Galileo sattelites?

What's your accuracy reading after staying at a standstill for a while? My OP3 reports 4,5 meters. I would like to know how much more accurate the OP5 with supposed Galileo positioning system is.
