I'm on CM7.1 stable. Haven't had battery issues for a while, but starting a few days ago I've been getting rapid drain with heating. Battery use screen shows that the phone is awake most of the time the screen is off, but it doesn't reveal which app keeps waking it up. I also tried Spare Parts to see if any app is hogging the partial wake lock, but nothing seems to account for it.
Any other ideas on how to trace it? Must've been an app that updated in the past 3-4 days.

Just to show how this looks, here is a screenshot of the battery screen.
Notice that I put the phone in airplane mode for the past hour as I was writing an exam, yet it still appears awake with screen off. The phone was warm when I retrieved it after an hour of the radios being off! Something is seriously wrong here.

I can only guess it is an application or service keeping your phone from going to deep sleep- also known as "partial wake lock" or something like that...
What to do? You can probably nail the culprit using some application like BetterBatteryStats (Market it, or look for it at xda's app thread- it is somewhere here). It will help you find who/what is keeping the phone awake.
I think that Battery Monitor Widget can also give you similar info.
You may need some help in the BBS thread to help you interpret the results as they are not always obvious or easy to tell who's the problem.
Right. What's confusing me is that nothing in the partial wake lock list is showing more than about 10 minutes of lock time, yet the phone gets stuck awake for more than a solid hour of screen off time.

I think I figured it out. I had a trigger set up in Tasker that resets the phone's data connection every time it crashes out with an error (and my carrier WIND Mobile does this quite frequently). On days when the battery was constantly draining, it may have been because the network was particularly error-prone and my trigger therefore kept going off. And each time it went off, Tasker must have flipped the phone into awake mode.
I've turned off the trigger for now, to see if it stops draining.
Since a couple of nights I noticed that my galaxy note can't last through the night, even with a reasonably well charged battery.
At some point I also accidentally woke up during the night and noticed that the screen was spontaneously on, showing the lock screen.
This morning I checked the battery usage, and took 2 snapshots.
As you can see, at some point the screen is activated and remains so for hours.
Does anybody have a clue on what could be the culprit, or how to find it out, I suspect some app, since this was not happening from the beginning of my gnote usage.
I still have the original os running (2.3.6)

Have you tried restarting or factory resetting your phone? It must be some application you may have installed. I haven't come across anything like this before.
You remove the charger from the phone without unlocking it. It is a known issue that prevents the phone to sleep. So next time first swype your finger on the screen to unlock it then unplug the charger, if not then restart the phone so it can go to deep sleep state.

Is the screen which stays constantly on the lockscreen a side effect of wakelock also? Did not know that.
The thing is that I use two batteries, so I almost never charge the phone itself. And since I replace batteries, I regularly reboot the phone (at least once a day). Does not seem to help.
I would prefer to avoid resting to factory defaults, one reason being that I would like to find out which app has such a malicious behavior.
But perhaps it's hard to catch the culprit, and I won't escape a reset (or a reverse chronological install of apps until the issue is resolved)

You can use Better Battery stats to find the rogue app. Its free for XDA members.

Please see attached screenshots. This is absolutely doing my head in. It's always draining my battery but others I know don't have it show up at all. The dreaded Google Services!
I'm trying to avoid doing a factory restart add it took me ages to set this phone up from scratch.
Google doesn't seem to be able to provide me with a concrete answer and I don't want to disable Google sync if I can help it because then my push Gmail will stop working and I kind of need that.
Please help. Before I end up self harming or throw this beautiful phone out of the window and under a bus!

Is this the only instance you've noticed it since buying the phone? Coz all the stats show is that google services took 68% of your total battery loss till now, so you roughly lost 4% of your battery to google services. The screen will be the max user if you keep the screen on for longer. Try running the whole day and see the battery usage by google services throughout the day. Are you using google now?
Hi there.
It's not the only instance. I had this the other day too. My battery was draining like something ridiculous. About 10% am hour in idle mode.
Even at the current rate, I lost about five percent in a few hours when the phone would be in deep sleep. Seems to be preventing that happening..
I'm on my third full recharge now since getting the phone

Hmmm.. Do you use Google Now? Try and disable it perhaps, coz thats the only thing which would require location services, and GPS takes a lot of power.
No, Google Now is permanently disabled. I don't use it and have it permanently turned off.

Thats one off the list. Ok, lets try and narrow down the issue: try n disable location services completely, It should be in the settings.
I have tried to disable everything and even did a hard reset while disabling all unnecessary "functions" that samsung and google adds, but still when using the phone with screen on and just browsing reddit Android OS is above Screen and all other apps. While the phone is off it never hits deep sleep and is usually 90% awake.
I have disabled Samsung Push Service, but haven't seen any improvement. I have disabled Location Services and all the other stuff suggested in other threads with no luck.
I have attached AlarmManager.txt since that's what other people suggest, but I cannot understand how to properly read the file.
If anyone can help me fix this battery drain, it would help me a lot. Thanks.
Try wakelock detector to see which app/process is puling down the battery power.
My phone had the same problem last few days.
However i just format the internal storage & reflash os. I don't really care as i've backed up my apps using TB.
At least it solve mine.
What solved it for me was a complete wipe, flash back to stock then install recovery and custom rom. Not had any issues since. - think it's an anomaly within the OS.

Before you do a reset, just try out the search Funktion in this forum.
Reset won't help!
Search for AndroidOS Bug or read my other posts. Thx

Already did that in the first 30 minutes of googling. I don't want to root because I will lose my warranty. My colleague's Note 3 is a bit older on the same firmware, but has absolutely no battery drain. He's had his phone on for soon 2 days and it still had 30% of battery left. What could this mean? I have disabled everything he has and it still made no difference.
May be this will help.

I tried it an hour ago and my wake time go down from 90% to 13%.
Yes, we have here a lot of threads with the same issue.
Right know i posted my recommendation about this issue in the other thread

I did the same. It worked for 45 minutes straight (80% deep sleep, 20% awake), then when I woke the phone up after those 45 minutes to check battery stats and turned the screen off manually again, it stopped deep sleeping right that moment.

in this case check your phone, what app you've installed, what app has auto-sync.... blah blah...

My stats after whole night is 3% awake, with 10 hours of deep sleep and 20 minutes wake time.
May be there is an application causing problem. Check with WLD and remove the one with more wake time.

Hi Muhammad, when I use WLD or Betterbattreystats I usually get nlpwakeclock collector or another wakeclock, it never specifies if a certain app is causing it to stay awake.
Any suggestions on what to do to find out?

Try this, turn phone off and take out battery for 5 minutes. Put battery back in phone and charge full.
Also you will get Loads of Battery saving tips from my thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579075

No solution. After 4 hours idle I only have 65% left and android OS is the biggest culprit above screen on. I'm thinking of trying the beta kitkat rom.
I solved my battery drain by disabling google location access - for some reason google services continued trying to access location and were keeping the device awake, an hour of idle leached away like 5% of battery, which is usually what I get drained in a day. I have still left "power efficient" location to Android - using only wifi, but have disabled location in the google specific settings, then reboot and voila.
Solved for my Note 3 N9005
I tried all the gimmicks on this thread and many else. Even turning everything off (and thus crippling the functionality of the phone) didn't help.
Then I tried a couple of battery saver apps and one of them seems to have done the trick.
Easy Battery Saver.
Now there's no 'keep awake' time in Battery -> Android OS. None.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, it's a good idea to try apps (if they help) that non-rooted users can try. What kind of settings are you using with Easy Battery Saver?
Took me a while to figure it out but for me Sview case is causing big Android OS battery drain on 4.3. It keeps running a w1_bus_master1 process that tops cpu usage and is draining the battery. You can see it if you enable show cpu usage in developer options. I guess its used to detect opening and closing the case but its usage is insane. As soon as i take the case off the process is gone and Android OS stops eating the battery.

You use the original samsung case?
This started happening a few months ago. My phone used to last well over a day before being to be charged. Now it barely lasts a day. It seems that Android OS is keeping the phone awake for long periods.
For example today the stats are:
8 hours on battery
49 minutes screen on
2 hours CPU time for Android System
4 hours 25 mins keep awake for Android OS
That's 25% CPU time and more than 50% keep awake while only 10% screen on time. That seems WAY out of proportion. It was never like this before...
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas how to fix?
Thanks!

Hi , i had the same problem as you .
Lost 40% of battery at night. No deep sleep.
Now 5% at night without disabling any Google apps
Here's my solution.
1) disable all permission. If an application don't need to have access to your contact , location ...then remove it.
2) if you are using a router Wi-Fi them change the max connection from 16 to 8 or 4 connection max.
Try it.
