I dont understand whats goin on. While im using the phone the battery seems fine and drops maybe 2-3% while listening to 30 mins of music. However as soon the screen switches off the battery plumets, overnight it droped by 30%. What could be draining the battery this much?
So far this is what ive tried.
3g is off 24/7
wifi is off most of the time
Using Helix launcher
Using battery defender
use media scape every now and then
Timescape never used.
Brightness is halfway
Any tips ??

it says:
40% cell standby
35% phone idle
11% android system
6% display
4%media server
2% dolphin browser
not sure what it means though
Your big one is the cell. Put the phone into airplane mode unless you need to be on standby for calls.

i thought 3g being off would help, but it hasnt lol.
2-3% in half hour is 4-6% per hour and say 30% overnight at an estimate of 8hrs is 3.75% per hour.
That seems a little on the high side but if you are getting a day or so of battery life with reasonable use then I'd say you are probably getting roughly around the same as everyone else (a few exceptions here and there claiming much higher figures but i have no idea about this).
I dont think you are going to be able to do much to improve it short of turning off your radio completely or disabling data for certain periods usin juice defender or similar. Can't see the point in doing this though - kinda defeats the object of having a smart phone

Go onto my thread of how to maintain battery life and memory, while your phone is idle it has background apps running like gmail or google talk, i dont use timescape because of all the fancy screen motion it consumes way too much battery juice.
Got any more questions then just PM me

I actually have the TimeScape widget on my homescreen, BUT I have removed Facebook and Twitter and all the other internet-updated stuff, as I already have separate applications for them and hundreds of contacts I don't care so much about to see their statuses on my homescreen, and it doesn't suck my battery at all.
And it's nice to see the last missed call/message/picture taken at a glance!
Just go to Timescape, press Menu, Settings, and remove those from display settings for tiles and splines!

What if i use gmail?
Disabling google talk only will help?
GPS is what did it for me. After trying everything else I decided to try turning off the GPS antenna and yesterday was the first day I made it through with power to spare. Now my usage was a little less than usual yesterday so I'm still gonna be testing with GPS off for a few more days but so far so good, I think that did it for me!

Do you use google talk ? If you keep yourself logged in, this could be an issue.
Also, I do a restart after each recharge. I found this to help somehow..
The phone is alway trying to sync. So you should probably uncheck
setting -> mobile networks -> MMS & Data -> turn off
Turn sync app off
Also you mentioned you display brightness is at 50% turn it even lower you will notice a huge difference
ive tried most things people have mention with no real change, im goin to reduce the brightness this time.
If your indoors brightness @ 10-15% is more than enough..
Id suggest trying adw launcher and maybe cut out the animation effects in adw settings and also in phone settings under sound and display! Lookz more slicker than original and for me lasts more than a day.
If u use mediascape mainly for music id suggest tryin 'meridian'.. quicker to use, nice music control widget and drains less battery!
Hope it helpz!!

This will probably be the craziest suggestion you will read. Remove the Timescape and Mediascape shortcuts from all three home screens.
I actually get just under two days of moderate use; where before I only got 9hours.
Just try it!

I have fixed it I think. i had a look at my battery history in spare parts and found my phone spent 86% of its time running, 15 hours which means the phone never went to sleep. The only culprit I could think of was juice defender because it is on all the time. Now my battery went down only 3% over night.
Over the weekend I bought a new Galaxy S4 on the Bell network in Canada (model SGH-I337M). I used it Saturday and Sunday without any problems, getting about 4-5 hours of screen on time per day. On Monday I went to work and used my phone a lot less, but noticed I only got about 2.5 hours of screen on time before I had run down the battery. I looked at the battery stats and saw that Maps was consuming a lot of battery (considering I had not opened Maps that day), but thought little of it. Yesterday my battery life was even lower, after 1 hour of screen on time I had about 50% battery left and Maps was responsible for 70% of battery usage.
Here are screenshots I took at the end of yesterday to show the battery consumption:
End of day screen on time
Battery graph (note that Maps is using about 70% of my battery)
Usage details for Maps
Why did Maps keep the phone awake for almost 2 hours when I didn't even open it? This morning I've been off the charger for 1.5 hours and Maps has already had 10 minutes of stay awake time.
I've rebooted the phone, disabled location sharing (Latitude), disabled GPS (as you can see though, Maps only used the GPS for 2.5 minutes) and I don't know what to do now to fix this. Does anyone know how I can stop this?

It seems like that's helped, for now at least...Maps still claims to be taking up most of the battery but stay awake time has only been about a minute and a half. Thanks!
In google maps app setting disable location reporting and enable location sharing.

Did you use a widget that uses maps on your homescreen.
I added a go home button to my homescreen. It drained my battery. Took me a while to find the culprit.

I was using the weather widget that was already on the homescreen but I removed it to see if that was the problem, it wasn't.
Interestingly enough however it still says Maps is responsible for 63% of my battery usage...with 7 minutes 26 seconds of stay awake time after 10 hours. Screen (with 1.5 hours screen on time) is at 24%, and I have 52% battery remaining. I installed BetterBatteryStats but I don't see any unusual wakelocks or anything like that.
Sadly I do not have any advice to you. Just posting to let you know that I am also in the same boat.
For the past three days, Maps has done this. Today, it was fine. I changed nothing in between then and now. Weird.

Got my t-mobile UK 9005 yesterday and after just 30 mins Maps was using 14% of my battery second only to the screen. That's default just turned it on. Something very wrong here. (rebooted a few times and rooted)
Left the device over night first thing this morning checked battery. Maps 63% battery usage and battery had gone from 99% to 82% while just on standby. Something very wrong here!
Now I noticed that i have app like DailyMotion and Deezer installed for me that cant be uninstalled without a root app like debloater. Wondering if the issues here are less android OS and more badly behaving apps grabbing location data. (made all the more difficult by Plays auto download of old apps, hard to diagnose which app is the culprit)
Ive reset to factory settings and prevented any auto installs and after 3 mins theirs is no sign of Google Maps being used... wonder if we need to factory reset our device to wipe this issue out?
Can we start to collate the problem? Please state which handset model you have, firmware and network.

I've created a video explain the problem I had in more detail and show the fix that worked for me, hope it helps others:
I tried a factory reset last night but again this morning Maps was keeping the phone awake (about 5 minutes of stay awake time after an hour and a half off the charger). I disabled Location History in the Maps app and now Maps has dropped right off of the battery stats screen, and it's been gone for a couple of hours now. If anyone else is having this issue, it might be worth a shot - I don't use/care about Location History anyway.

Well it's about right mathematically. 5% = 10 mins so 100% = 200 mins = 3.3 hours of onscreen time. Personally max I've managed to get is 4 hours, very disappointing battery life so far for me.
There is another Maps / location power sucking app called Story Album ....Samsung Bloatware I guess. Anyway when you open the app, goto settings, click Home City > Select Method > set to None. In the lower part called Album content de-select City information, Location etc..
Turn off lication reporting and tick location sharing in maps app settings->location

Hey guys. Recently my battery has been dying at an alarming rate. According to BBS it's from a process called diagnostics.client.Wakelock, does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?
I started noticing the drain after setting up my Galaxy Gear, don't know if that may have something to do with it.
Thanks!

I am facing a huge battery drain as well after the recent update was pushed. I don't have the "diagnostics.client.Wakelock" in BBS but Samsung Push Service was hogging a lot so I turned that off. It was 80% at 11PM and today morning it was down to 59% .. that's 21% in standby mode. Is it not going into sleep mode or is something else causing this? I have almost everything turned off. Any ideas guys? Thank you.
MJ7? (not sure why but like other people remarked - the battery life looks to have somewhat declined - 30-60% less?)

Yes MJ7. I hope this is a bug that can get fixed sooner than later. It's horrible. I just got 1h 37mins of screen time and now I am down to 12%. Just a few calls and some Instagram. Nothing else. Would removing the battery for a while or something help? I haven't installed any app since updating to MJ7 (2 days ago).
I've had this issue with MI7 and MJ7 so the update is not the problem. My guess is me freezing most of the samsung bloat on the phone through Titanium is causing this. Maybe there's a process trying to find something thay I froze?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I fixed it by charging my battery up to 90% then removed the battery and kept it aside for a while ~10 mins and then plugged it back in and charged it to 100%. Now it seems to be normal again. No drain last night. Moved only 1% from 12AM to 9PM. Cheers!
I have the same issue with MJ7 firmware; the phone sometimes doesn't get into deep sleep while the screen is off.
A possible cause of the issue: switch off wifi when data are off.
So now I switch data on before turning wifi off.
Anyone ever find a solution to this? It's killing me.
Same here, my battery declines almos 1% every 5 minutes just texting via Whatsapp and I know Whatsapp is not the guilty. Using Wakelock monitor shows 30% Android System usage with a lot of entries in Gpslocationprovider (even with GPS off and everything on Location settings off), SyncloopWakelock and AlarmManager... MJ7 here too... My Note2 wasn't like this... I finished the day with 5% of baterry after heavy use from 8am til 10pm (including 45' watching videos)... With my Note3 at mid-day I have my battery death!! I can't believe it! and I don't know what is happening (I only have 4 days with my new Note 3) and I have tried almost everything (deactivating) except wipe data/factory reset (I've tried soft reset and nothing)
Anyone ever find a solution to this wakelock?

I noted that my GN3 would have great and then poor battery drainage. It seemed to happen right after my first long call of the day. I noted in my wakelock app that diagnostics.client.wakelock was using a lot of time.
I decided to take more drastic action by doing a factory reset and restoring apps one by one. I first used Kingo Root to root my GN3. I had to uninstall Kies and the Samsung driver to get the rooting to work.
Then I backed up with Helium and Titanium backup.
After a factory reset, my battery usage was about 0.2 percent per hour. I use only data and no wifi.
I have now restored most of my apps and still have 0.3 percent per hour usage. I have not updated any Samsung or ATT apps.except for ATT code scanner. i have not "used" any of the google apps except for gmail, search, google+ (signed out). Google music is turned off.
Diagnostics.client.wakelock still shows up but with low time now.
After twelve hours, the GN3 is at 96 percent including a two minute phone call and email updates.
------
After a long phone call, I once again saw my battery usage increase and stay up after the phone call.
-----
I re-started with a factory reset and only restored the minimum apps that I use to browse, email, text, phone, and backup.
So far it is performing well in battery usage.
I will be adding more apps until I find the one that breaks the good performance.
-----
So far I have been able to make it through 24 hours using only TEN percent battery usage. I have added TextPlus, BofA, drippler, Helium, Titanium Backup Pro, CPU Spy Plus, Wakelock Detector, System Tuner Pro, Battery Monitor Pro, AutoBluetooth, Maps, Youtube, YP, Total Commander, Visual Voicemail, Quick Boot, Root Checker, Turn Off Screen. Everything else is stock without updating AT&T apps or Samsung apps.
I am seeing an idle usage of less than 0.3% and that is with two widgets for Battery Monitor and System Tuner. They and Textplus use up the most power. I also talked on the phone via bluetooth for about 30 minutes.
I still get the diagnostic.client.wakelog but only getting about 5 percent awake time.
-----
I did another factory reset. This time I did not allow any app updates.
I installed Titanium Backup, CPU Spy Plus, Wakelock Detector, Battery Monitor Widget Pro.
I have not seen a diagnostic.client.wakelock at all after one hour of use.
-----
I added TextPlus, System Tuner Pro. I put the widgets to System Tuner pro and Battery Monitor on the home screen.
I have not updated any apps since the reset.
I have counted about 7 diagnostic.client.wakelocks for a total of 4 seconds of wake time. My wake time percentage since yeaterday is around 1 percent.
I plan to update apps one at a time to see which one kills the battery usage with wake locks.
I just added AT&T Visual Voicemail, PayPal, BofA, and Evernote to my GN3.
The diagnostics.client.wakelock started climbing and keeping my phone from sleeping.
Uninstalling the four apps did not help.
I think that the problem is with the Visual Voicemail.
----
Factory reset my phone and am back to 1 percent wake state and very low battery drain.
----
The cause of the bad wakelock was due to restoring APP+DATA in Titanium Backup. I did that to save setup steps.
I had restored BofA and Shazam with data and the wakelocks started up.
After I factory reset again, I installed apps the normal way and have been seeing a 0.3 percent use per hour.
Samsung's own software is most garbage in my opinion.
If you use ChatOn and Samsung Hub, etc, disabling this may have an impact.
Here's how I've solved the problem with this pig of an app.
1) go to application manager under settings.
2) go to the "ALL" tab
3) find that "samsung push service"
4) uninstall - this will only uninstall the updates. Once all the very useful updates are gone, the option changes to disable.
5) disable and good riddance.
On a side note, search for this on the playstore. the reviews are hilarious.
c.
Nothing I had tried up to today has fixed my battery drain and diagnostics.client.wakelock issue.
However, today, I got a software update OTA (nb4) on my phone and it appears the problem is fixed.
I have tried to disable everything and even did a hard reset while disabling all unnecessary "functions" that samsung and google adds, but still when using the phone with screen on and just browsing reddit Android OS is above Screen and all other apps. While the phone is off it never hits deep sleep and is usually 90% awake.
I have disabled Samsung Push Service, but haven't seen any improvement. I have disabled Location Services and all the other stuff suggested in other threads with no luck.
I have attached AlarmManager.txt since that's what other people suggest, but I cannot understand how to properly read the file.
If anyone can help me fix this battery drain, it would help me a lot. Thanks.
Try wakelock detector to see which app/process is puling down the battery power.
My phone had the same problem last few days.
However i just format the internal storage & reflash os. I don't really care as i've backed up my apps using TB.
At least it solve mine.
What solved it for me was a complete wipe, flash back to stock then install recovery and custom rom. Not had any issues since. - think it's an anomaly within the OS.

Already did that in the first 30 minutes of googling. I don't want to root because I will lose my warranty. My colleague's Note 3 is a bit older on the same firmware, but has absolutely no battery drain. He's had his phone on for soon 2 days and it still had 30% of battery left. What could this mean? No solution. After 4 hours idle I only have 65% left and android OS is the biggest culprit above screen on. I'm thinking of trying the beta kitkat rom.
I solved my battery drain by disabling google location access - for some reason google services continued trying to access location and were keeping the device awake, an hour of idle leached away like 5% of battery, which is usually what I get drained in a day. I have still left "power efficient" location to Android - using only wifi, but have disabled location in the google specific settings, then reboot and voila.
Solved for my Note 3 N9005
I tried all the gimmicks on this thread and many else. Even turning everything off (and thus crippling the functionality of the phone) didn't help.
Then I tried a couple of battery saver apps and one of them seems to have done the trick.
Easy Battery Saver.
Now there's no 'keep awake' time in Battery -> Android OS. None.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, it's a good idea to try apps (if they help) that non-rooted users can try. What kind of settings are you using with Easy Battery Saver?
Took me a while to figure it out but for me Sview case is causing big Android OS battery drain on 4.3. It keeps running a w1_bus_master1 process that tops cpu usage and is draining the battery. You can see it if you enable show cpu usage in developer options. I guess its used to detect opening and closing the case but its usage is insane. As soon as i take the case off the process is gone and Android OS stops eating the battery.

You use the original samsung case?
Horrible battery life.
i consider myself well versed in phones. In the past year i have had a Gnex, HTC One m7, and a moto x. Just got my s5 last week, and im lucky to get 12 hours battery life with 1.5 hours of on screen time. I have all the gestures and 'smart' stuff turned off. i dont get it. I have a handful off aps that i use, and have used on every phone. the only thing i can think of is perhaps its the google now launcher? has anyone else on here gotten HORRIBLE battery life with that installed?
That is bad indeed. Ive been on wifi most of today, different locations, and still have 30% right now with close to 6hrs screen time.
I have the GNL installed and I have amazing battery. I have location on "GPS Only" and photo auto-upload turned off. Everything else is on. What's your signal like? Worst case, try a factory reset. Oh, and turn off Google Now.
Also, why does your phone have 7bars instead of 4 or 5? Is that a sprint thing?
it looks like your system doong a lot of stuff, your screen On time should always be hiher and number 1. have you done anything to your cellphone? apps, xposed modules? custom roms?

Has to be a faulty battery or phone. Battery life on mine is fantastic.

Not rooted, so nothing with exposed chewing up ram. I have GPS set to "battery saver". My signal at work is kinda 'meh' on LTE but 5 bars on 3g. My 4g speeds are about 15Mbps so it's not like the phone is spinnimg its wheels looking for data. I turned off location sharing from Google. So we will see how today goes.
Is 'GPS only' more battery friendly then 'battery saver' for location?
Attached is my app drawer. Nothing crazy...nothing that should be wake locking the phone....
Edit: I switched photos auto upload to only on WiFi only while charging last night as well. oh, I also charged to 100% last night with phone off using a USB 2.0 cable for a slower charge. If today goes poorly I'm going to try another battery, next step is hard reset with no 3rd party apps, then replace phone :\. I'll keep it updated.
trying a new kernel now to see if it changes anything as a test
Please keep us updated. I'm in the exact same boat as you.
Its "better" but not like it was before the update. Lost 20 % in 5 hours with 50min screen time

much better
So its been much better today. See attached screen shots. Its not perfect but I have a big handful of apps syncing so 20hours on a charge is good for me. I mean, my moto-x got 20hrs, but that was on a highly optimized s4 pro processor only using a 4.7"amoled screen @ 720p. So if this 5"+ 1080p monster can get 20 with everything I throw at it im happy.
I think the biggest thing I did was settings - location - location services - google location reporting - off for this device.
The reason is GNL (GEL) was accessing location like crazy, so that helped.
I also made some other tweaks as stated in above posts, sorry I didnt do it scientifically by only changing one thing each day to pinpoint what it was. I turned off all of sammys 'smart' features and charged it to 100% on a 1A charger with a usb 2.0 cable with the device off. And turned off various other settings. Hope this helps.
The best thing I did for battery life was disable my Samsung account. The difference was incredible.

Yes they do. Kill the Samsung account with fire.
Although some things like the default Browser only sync with a Samsung account, not with Google.
ok, I will tell you, battery saver mode is better than gps only mode. usb 2.0 or 3.0 doesnt affect charging speed, its just for data transfer speed.
maybe your google account was syncing or maybe your gallery was syncing.
this kills and uses a lot of data and battery, also facebook... please do a favor and turn every notification off. also, use greenify to cancel all apps syncing. well only the ones that you do not use.

No it isn't. Unless you use navigation all day, GPS Only mode is by FAR more battery friendly. The battery saving mode turns on Google location tracking and all that stuff...you know, the popup that you agree to each time. GPS only keeps that off which saves your battery a lot more. It's the worst named setting i've ever seen.

You can`t use Google maps navigation with power saving mode that`s why I go back to my high accuracy setting however this didn`t change my battery stand by time by much I usually could go around 1 day and 20 hours on 1 charge depending on how much i use my phone with around 2 hours on screen time and some calls for probably 1 hour.
@op what software version you use because in the latest firmware for the G900F there is a battery improvement made so I do suggest to check your phone for software updates.
Other then that the battery life depends on how often you use your phone and for what.

Im on build 49h. However when i go to checl for a sw update I get this messege about unauthorized software. Im not rooted, no bootloader unlock, nothing. Ive never even plugged this into a desktop. I run gel and have selected ART in dev options as well as increased transitions to .5 and have usb debug enabled. Wtf?
Fixed: ART was the issue. I hate you samsung. Smh.
Edit: art was the issue with the "unknown software" issue, not the battery life/op
