I saw that the development for android on this device has gotten pretty far. I a curious, would it be worth it to buy this just for android? I guess I'm asking, is it that reliable that I can use it as the main OS? These phones go cheap now and I wouldn't mind having an android phone
Absolutely. I still activate mine every now and then just for the heck of it. Sure, the screen isn't the most vibrant and it isn't the fastest, but I still enjoy using it.

Agree with the poster above. Most builds out there are feature rich and will give you the full Android experience (assuming that you have data in your plan, that is). And yes, it is a very cheap way to get into Android.
That's great to hear. I have seen these go as cheap as 50 bucks used on ebay I will definitely try to get one. Just a question, anybody know any good sites for buying older phones like this on the cheap? eBay only has so many in my range and I'd hate to miss out on this experience because I couldn't scrape up the cash in time.

You may be able to find some in XDA's marketplace. But eBay is your best bet (I got mine there for $80)
Alright, one last question. Can I unlock this while on Android? I found a sprint touch online for dirt cheap but I am a Verizon customer. If I get the sprint one, can it be unlocked when using Froyo?

You'll have a tough time getting it activated on Sprint. It is doable, but try to find a Verizon one... that would be your best bet.
So it IS possible to unlock a sprint Touch an use it on Verizon while on android? I heard that Verizon does not have sprint ESNs in their DB so actiavtion may require sweet talking the reps. I just found a touch through sprint for 37 shipped and I want to know if it will work in my situation for sure.

I will not guarantee this as their rule book say that is a no go. Again, try to get a Verizon one...
Yeah, i got a verizon one from another member on the board so it's all good. Thanks for the help regardless
I'm coming from an iPhone so I have no brand/device loyalty, but root/jailbreaking is high priority for me. It doesn't seem like the S7e has any advantages over the 10 besides screen (honestly not the biggest fan of the curved screen anyway). Should I make the switch?
Yes.

Lol, iPhone 6 Plus here as well. And I can't wait to get rid of this overpriced junk. I can't do crap with IOS like what I can do on Android. #power10 it is.....beside I never fall for S7 or edge when it first release. I'm glad hTC waited.
I returned my s7e today and ordered the 10; I found that unless you have the hands of a giant, you will continually hit the edges and cause miss types/screen jumps. I also couldn't deal with the lack of ad blocker and the DPI was too big, even with the new native scaling. AND I thought the curved edges would be in addition to the screen, but they really occupied about 1/8" on either side.
I agree with everything you said, Rus. I ended up returning it and getting on that pre-order train too!! What whatt

Remember phones bought from Verizon store/online are IMEI blacklisted from using HTCdev. It will probably come with a ton of Verizon bloat. It is also not a guarantee to be able to get root. It could come in a week, or could take a year like the M9.or maybe never. A java card could also possibly work but not a 100% yet. Due your research, only way to guarantee root is by ordering from HTC's website. Just FYI.

Sadly no, only thing that will get you is the uh-oh protection. The unlocked version "might" work on Verizon but we wont know until someone try's it and sees if it has the CDMA radios. On paper with the posted specs it should but in my experience with verizon you may never know. They got the money to bully company like HTC to do what they want. take a read at this forum for more info.http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/unlocked-htc-10-verizon-t3357874

Yeah Verizon is the devil. Finally making the switch myself to ATT. I am done with the hoops you have to jump through to get access to the device you own. The Verizon version of the M9 gave quite a bit of trouble to get root but @jcase and the sunshine team finally did it so they may still have a trick up their sleave to get root on the Verizon 10 without using HTVdev to unlock the boot loader. Sadly the only way to 100% guarantee root with Verizon is a nexus. Don't give up home there are a lot of very talented devs on here but sadly its never a guarantee and can take time.
I just did my preorder through VZW. I know the risks as far as maybe not being able to unlock/root., but I just paid off my LG v10 for this because I know HTC, and I will get something going. I hope the great developers from the M8 series are here .
I may be a bit too excited for thursday to get here....
I'm considering upgrading to the OnePlus 5 (or 3T) from the Galaxy S7, but is it worth it after only one year? I guess I could sell my Galaxy S7 to partially make up for the OnePlus 5/3T expenses, but still unsure if they are that much better of phones.
I'm switching from s6 to OP5, why? Because want bigger (not curved) screen and better battery. S6 do better photos indoor.
I switched over from my S7 Edge. Depends on what you want out of your phone. I like stock Android, overall speed of the phone, dual camera, and the customizability. I also prefer the metal unibody.

Yeah I definitely want stock Android and better overall speed, battery life, and customization. But I'm wondering if it's too early to upgrade after only a year, and whether the S7 isn't that much far off from the OnePlus 5.
I am using S7 but decided to get OP5, but same time I will keep S7 so I can spent more time comparing with them , but it's too early to say if I will sell S7 or not

If you're satisfied with the S7 then keep it. I like to live on the bleeding edge of phone tech, that's honestly one of the main reasons I upgraded.

I've noticed that it's begun to slow down (but not to the extent that I need to get rid of it), but my primary reason for considering the upgrade is to be able to not only use a brand new phone, but to flash ROMs on it and likely keep it for 2 years because of that.

I would go for the OP5 then, but you could also get a mint 3T on swappa for cheap right now. The development for that device is much more abundant than the 5 at this point.

I don't see them coming out with a 5T, and if they did it would be marginal. The only difference I think would be a 2k screen and OIS. Which won't really impact day to day use. I'd grab the 5.

I sold my OnePlus 3T for $430 and now have the OnePlus 5 in my hands. Note that there's a promotion on the S8/S8+ right now, so you can pick one of those guys up for $~450. So if you like the S-Line, I'd weigh my options carefully.
No doubt the 3T/5 is much faster and smooth than the S7/S8 with a superior stock experience in terms of speed. If you want to try out Custom ROM's, then OP5 is the place to go for sure.

I've actually been an HTC fanboy since 2010 (until last year), but was so close to picking a phone with stock Android that year, and I wish I did. Don't get me wrong, the S7 has been very solid for me, but I'm not a huge fan of Touchwiz and I really miss the ability to flash ROMs which improves the longevity of phones. I'm just trying to figure out if an upgrade after only a year is worth it even if I can sell my S7 for a lot of money to nearly make up for the OP5.

The OP5 will retain resale value. I sold my 3 (Originally $399) for $375 when I upgraded to the OP3T and sold the OP3T (Originally $479) for $430. I would sell the S7 before it loses more value, and you can always sell your OP5 in the future if needed without worrying about price depreciation.

That's a good point. Just out of curiosity, my S7 is on T-Mobile. I know that I could take my SIM card out of it and stick it inside the OP5 (if I do purchase it). Does my phone number also get transferred and I maintain the same carrier plan? Sorry, this may be my first time switching to an unlocked phone.
EDIT: Asking because I'm wondering if I would have to pay more for talk/messaging/data after a year.
I switched from S7 (not EDGE) but still didn't received OP5. After reviews on the internet I'm considering to buy HTC U11 anyway after few weeks.

What is the word on unlocking our Bootloaders?
I've been watching this topic for quite some time and I can't find anything new or updated on the subject.
It's almost like everyone gave up on trying because it seems impossible.
The bootloader for our device is locked down, it will 99% never be unlocked. We don't even have stable root all we have is crappy eng boot root. There is no development for this phone at all, unless you have the international version. Best advice I can give you sell this terrible device and either buy the international version or a whole new phone all together that isn't carrier branded as they all lock down their bootloaders. I'm jumping ship also, only got this phone because it was free.

Hey guys, I'm been considering trading my v30 for the OnePlus 6T from T-Mobile. I do need to buy out my v30 for 180ish before it is officially mine and I can take advantage of the OnePlus trading offer.
What you guys think, is it worth the upgrade or to trade it in?
T-Mobile did not give me the full 300.00 trade in, as I still owned money on the S8+. So depending on how much you have left on your V30 will determine how much of the 300.00 trade-in credit you will get.
I hoped this helped..

Did you have to pay what you owed for the s8plus in cash or did they credit you? Reason I ask is I still have 2 payments before I can jump. I want the 6t now but don't have 60 bucks cash if I have to pay the difference now.

I had a v30 and I still had a balance ($390). I paid it off, traded it in, got $100 credit, and the $300 promotion. I had no JUMP on that phone and it was started to show the random issues LG is known to have.
Went in and played with one today. Turns out I would have to pay my device off first so it makes more sense to just pay the 2 remaining payments and jump. That phone is a beast I cant believe how much noticeably faster it is then the s8 plus. Definitely my next phone in 2 months. I just wish I didn't have to wait!
I have an LG V30 and I was considering jumping to the 6T. But ultimately, after checking out the 6T, I've decided to stay with my V30. I just think it has better features than the 6T. Better screen, camera, AOD, wireless charging. If anyone can think of anything to the contrary, please enlighten me.

Just because it's not certified doesn't mean it's not waterproof.
I don't know. The more I think about it, it seems the 6T would be a step down from my current V30.

I used JUMP on Friday to upgrade LG V30 to 6T... So good that T-Mobile wrote off the $450 I still owed on V30... Love the 6T.... Battery life seems way better, phone seems way more snappy and responsive. I like the screen and camera, and the face unlock is so useful... I'll probably miss the external SD card at some point... Dash charging seems faster than quickcharge 3. I'd say upgrade when you can, and your best bet might be to pay off the $180, then use the $300 bill credit to get the phone at $11 something per month

I compared the cameras in the store, and I even did it with my LG V30 having the modded GCam (from Pixel) app on it, and the 6T STILL looked slightly better and had more detail IMO. So I'm upgrading now! lol
Not sure if it's really worth it if you have a V30 that you still owe on as your trade in. I've got a V20 and V30 but really the only thing that made it worth my while to get the 6T was that I still had a Nexus 6 to trade in. I just don't think the 6T is that much of an upgrade over the V30.
I don't share the sentiment that the 6T has a better camera than the V30. I seem to get the same quality out of both main cameras. I figured if I am concerned about image quality though, I won't be using either phone. I've got a solid standalone camera that no cellphone can touch and it will send files to my phone for immediate dispatch. That said, I have already gotten a pretty decent photo out of the 6T last night but I would have gotten the same out of the V30. I just happened to have the 6T active last night. And I still ended up getting a better shot with the real camera anyway. But I did ask on the camera thread which version I should look at and no one answered. Add into that all the crashes people are reporting on the GCAM, I'll just wait and use my current methods.
I'm still going back and forth with this. So many people are saying the V30 is a way better phone. Yet, others are saying the 6t is the better phone.
