Hi! I am trying to find premium s-view case since the original does not stay closed but i wonder how hall sensor works and will it work with other than Samsung original cases. I am thinking about this case http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tridea-Samsung-Galaxy-S4-100-Italian-Standing-View-Cover-S-View-Case-BLUE-/221221049258?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item3381cd53aa ! What do you think and can you recommend other high quality s-view cases? Regards, Stepanooo
I bought a Baseus flip case for $10 and cut a window out for the S-View. Works a treat (i.e., sleeps and wakes phone, displays proper notifications etc). Nice blue case too.

Thanks for reply! Just can t understand how that hall sensor works, because if i cover sensor with hand or try to imitate cover nothing happens... read that it detects magnetic field but then i wonder if something should be built in the case itself... If someone knows please reply... Thanks

There has to be a small magnet in the cover for it to work. If the magnet is close to the Hall sensor on the phone, it will switch to the s-view mode.
You can try it yourself by moving a magnet along the left side of the phone until you find the right spot...

Hi,
Just wondering if anybody knows if there are any ROMs available which allow you to disable the magnetic proximity sensor, just below the volume down rocker on the S4?
I work in an aluminium smelter and in production areas, the magnetic fields are very high due to the high DC current (240kA) used in the smelting process. What this means is that my S4 is unusable as the magnetic field holds the 'S View' sensor in its closed position as though an S case is closed. i.e. the phone only displays 'S View' mode rendering it useless in production areas.
Thanks
Paul

I've tried this, but it doesn't disable the S View mode. Try yourself with a fridge magnet.
Use Elixir from the Play Store.
The S View cover does not use magnetic sensor. It uses proximity sensor.

Did elixir work?
I to am trying to get that magnet disabled.
At work so I can't try elixir.
There are actually 2magnets.
One by the volume and the other is by the sensors above the screen.
Thanks.

If you're willing to install Xposed I can make a quick module to disable S-View. However some apps like the phone app might still respond to it as they handle it themselves rather than using the framework. That shouldn't be too annoying though.
Edit: btw this is better suited as a kernel patch to disable the sensor rather than the S-View screen. That might slightly lower consumption and would work better, but for warranty reasons I can see why a kernel patch would be annoying.

Can I ask the opposite question lol!
Is there a way to turn a standard wallet case in to an S-View by installing a magnet somewhere on the flap or something? Is it possible to make it work?

Yes. Get a hold of a magnet, it has to be reasonabley strong, I found that a fridge magnet was not strong enough, and hold it close to the volume down button and move it about a bit and find the optimum position, I actually find the magnet flat against the back or front near vol. Down works best, just be careful of screen.

Install Xposed from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Install my module http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/Xposed/DisableSView.apk
It's as close as you can get without disabling the sensor. I didn't hook into the phone so that might still show the S-View window, but that's no biggie. Also, the Smart Stay icon disappears, but hey, that can be a plus
Please report back if this works for you so I can make a thread for it.

pm me your email address and ill send you some log cats.
im pretty sure that sensor needs to be disabled. its causing the actual proximity sensor to be disabled which is why its causing me problems.

i bought an s View cover for my phone.
im using cm
i downloaded an app from the play store that mock sview because obviously cm doesnt have it.
the app used to proximity cover to determine if the cover is open or closed.
the app works flawlessly when i use my finger to cover the proximity sensor.
when i use the sview cover it doesnt work.
the sview cover some how disables the proximity sensor. i know this because i have other apps that use the proximity sensor and they dont work either when i use that cover...

Oh, then your problem is different from the OP's. I suggest contacting the devs so they monitor the magnet rather than the proximity sensor.

Hi all !!
Thank you for the great forum!!
I installed the module and the S-view is not shown, but the touch screen is disabled.
I use a magnetic car holder and every time I hang up the phone to it, the S-lock the screen view!
I don't know if it's possible, but it could be a great thing to change the phone's behavior when the magnetic sensor detects a magnetic field, for example, you can choose to put the phone in car mode.
Thank you very much

It render S-Voice Drive useless.

Just press the power button?

Possible fixes.
1) Just see that your screen guard is not covering the proximity sensor(right corner of your phone),if yes pl remove the screen guard or cut the portion that covers it.
2)Might be you have to do a clean flash. Which rom your are on?

You still didn't got the answer?? Its the screen protector covering the sensor.. Cut that portion or remove it totally and apply a new one.
I would appreciate if you Thank me clicking the button.
nexus 4 has a very sensitive proximity sensor
if the screen guard is covering it (even slightly) uncover it
clean the proximity sensor (it is located at the top right corner)
make sure there is no dirt on it
(even i had experienced the same problem)

Rohit, after your comment i went and cut that portion and it worked. clicked thanks for both of you.
I tried installing the xposed framework but that threw a little notice saying it wasnt going to work. I looked for apps ont he app store but that didnt work as well..
Any ideas on how to disable the proximity sensor so when I turn the screen on it doesnt turn right back off?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
the issue might be your proximity sensor's alignment. it might not have aligned properly. there is a small black rubber holder to hold the proximity sensor. may be you might be missing it or might have loosen it. you can easily fix/align it, if you can open the back cover.
you can install a custom rom to overcome this sudden screen off issue. but when you taking a call your screen will be turning off until other user disconnect the call..
I suggest you fix/align the proximity sensor..
P.S:
There is a small troubleshooting step you can do to see whether your proximity sensor has a slight alignment issue. get a torch or good direct light source and point it directly at proximity sensor. if you can turn your screen on while pointing that light towards proximity sensor, you should have a very small alignment issue. there are plenty of proximity sensor test apps on play store too.

Interseting... My screen broke so I had it replaced and its been having an issue ever since. Also, I don't use it for calls. It is just sitting on a mount in my car most of the day running a few car apps. But it is in airplane mode basically all day lol.

that makes sense.. you also replced front housing too right? that's where that rubber proximity sensor holder attached.. if you replace original front housing with aftermarket housing that rubber holder probably won't come with it. most of the repair technicians don't know this.. if you still have the old front housing you should be able to recover it and attach to your new housing..

or you should be able to buy it.

Honestly, if its possible I'd rather just disable it completely. I'd rather not open the phone up again if I don't have to and I will never use it for calls anyway.

That sounds exciting.. Lets do it!!!!!!!!!!!!
It says in the manual that there is a "Hall sensor" hidden somewhere on the screen which allows the screen to be turned on/off when the case is opened/closed. I have a Noreve case which doesn't seem to have this functionality. Does anyone know what the Huawei case has inside it to make this happen, and where exactly it is? Is it a magnet or something else? I've tried moving a magnet everywhere on the screen but I wasn't able to trigger anything.
If possible, I'd like to modify my Noreve case to support his, but I have no idea how the original Huawei case does it.
Also, is there a setting which needs to be enabled for this to work? I have "smart cover" enabled, but I also tried my magnet attempts with it disabled.
From the manual:
"When you use the protective flip cover designed for the M3, the Hall sensor enables your screen to turn on automatically when you open the cover and to turn off when you close it."
"M3 has many useful features which can be used easily. As you open the M3 protective flip cover, the screen turns on. As you close it, the screen turns off."

Make sure Smart Cover is turned on in Smart Assistance settings.
I found it, just a bit up and left from the fingerprint sensor. Not all magnets work, and the pole matters, it only works in one orientation. I also had to put a metal plate on the other side of the magnet so it wouldn't lock it when the case is flipped open and against the back of the tablet.
This is now a perfect replacement for my broken galaxy Tab S!
I have the official Huawei case and I think there are two sensors as on the case there is a plate / magnet (visible under case) to the left and up a bit from the finger print sensor and a second one half way on the right hand edge. I'll try to post a photo tomorrow which will make a much better job than my description
