x265 4k video choppy in kodi on 6.0 - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just gotten a shield tv today, it upgraded to 6.0 so I haven't had chance to try the earlier version.
However via Kodi 17.4 I am getting continual choppy playback on 4k x265 files.
It's not a network issue as the file plays back fine in mxplayer.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I have Kodi set to adjust refresh rate (which works) , but it's not a refresh rate issue, it's continually really choppy.
SPMC plays a little better but then freezes.

Fixed it myself.

Youtube playback

Hi all, just want to check with you guys, is the youtube playback on your respective HD clear and smooth? Mine isn't clear at all with choppy playback. Even my friend's iphone has clearer playback compared to my HD. Is this normal?

Mine is choppy for the first part of whatever movie I'm watching, I think because it's still buffering in the background. After a while it's done and the video runs silky smooth.
By the way, I only watch YouTube over WiFi.
mine doesn't even after it has load finish, there's poor frame rate and is still slightly choppy. is it normal for it to have poor frame rate/choppiness cause when i view the same clip on my laptop, it's rather clear.
excellent response and framerate (over wifi) using the buit-in utube player but very poor using Coreplayer or other.. Could also be a router issue.
hmm..it has constantly poor frame rate playback no matter where i am, so i doubt it's a router issue. Am I the only one with this problem? It's kinda disheartening to see such poor playback on a HD device..
Mine has smooth, clear playback. I've only tested it using the HSDPA connection. A 17 MB video (4 minutes long) loaded and buffered really quickly (in max 8 seconds) and played smoothly and clear from start to finish.
It could be a problem with the connection, or with a lot of other applications running at the same time, or YouTube itself is sometimes buggy for a certain period of time (even on my desktop PC).
Try restarting or soft-reset your phone. Then connect to your PC via USB cable and activesync. Now view a youtube video. Does that change anything or is it still slow?
My experience with youtube both on wifi and 3g has been excellent I must say. there are some inconsistencies with how the files appear. most will appear FULL SCREEN, some appear as a square box in the middle of the screen (in landscape it's full height, just not the length of the screen). This may simply be something to do with the encoding of the video on youtube, not the connection of program. Just wish iplayer would work over 3 G now lol

[Q] audio stream starts over, video keeps playing

I can be watching a tv episode, or a movie, doesn't matter. 75% through the file and the audio starts over at the beginning while the video continues to play through as normal. Making it impossible to finish a movie. I have tried wiping, trying different ROMS, different media players, and also different video converters. I am converting hdtv, bd, and regular avis into mp4 format with video at 600kb/s and audio from 96 to 128kbps keeping the framerate the same as source, and have also tried changing framerate to 23.97 and other fps settings to no avail. The video and audio play perfectly fine for the first hour or so then magically my problem happens, the audio starts over and the video plays as normal. What on earth is causing this? It's very frustrating. I have been dealing with this for months and had given up, but now that dexter season 5 is out, I MUST WATCH IT!
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I am currently running Sparksmod 1.6.
Also I should probably note, when I watch these converted files on the PC they play perfectly fine all the way through.

Youtube TV Performance/Delay

Has anyone experienced a lag or delay when using Youtube TV over Wifi or Ceullar on the Essential Phone. I have no delay when casting from the phone (Chromecast or Shield) or playing directly off my shield. Only seems to happen on the phone itself.
I can't seem to find much information on issues with Youtube TV. Everything plays but the video cannot keep pace with the audio and visibly lags/delays. Figured Id ask.

Judder/stutter/frame skip while watching videos on the S8

I've the exynos variant of the Galaxy S8 and I've slight judder and frame skipping whenever I try watching videos on it using the stock player or any third party player for that matter. It only happens when the hardware decoder is selected to play the file.
On software deciding it plays just fine without any judder or frame skipping. I tried playing the files with other phones of mine and all of them play them flawlessly.
I was unable to understand why this has been happening. On apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime the video is buttery smooth without any judder or frame skipping. This only happens when I try to play the files that are stored on the phone. Can someone help me out?

60fps YouTube playback is stuttering badly on i9505 with LineageOS 20180601 nightly

I was wondering why I had no 1080p60 option on the YouTube app so I tested the 720p60 option first, then I found out that trying to play 60fps videos on YouTube makes it stutter VERY badly.
Is it possible to get smooth 60fps YouTube playback or can the S4's hardware just not handle it? Hopefully it's a software limitation.
EDIT- Problem seems to be fixed after I set battery mode to performance, but I am unsure if that is what solved the problem. After setting the battery mode to balanced, the smooth playback was still retained. Now my problem is that I get no 1080p60 option :/ I can play 1080p videos fine, but no 1080p60 option is shown when I am watching a video that's 60fps. I'm pretty sure the S4 can handle 1080p60. Hell, my J2 Prime can handle 1080p60 just fine.
