Youtube TV Performance/Delay - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Has anyone experienced a lag or delay when using Youtube TV over Wifi or Ceullar on the Essential Phone. I have no delay when casting from the phone (Chromecast or Shield) or playing directly off my shield. Only seems to happen on the phone itself.
I can't seem to find much information on issues with Youtube TV. Everything plays but the video cannot keep pace with the audio and visibly lags/delays. Figured Id ask.

So I just got this little dongle thing, and its all choppy at times, and sometimes the audio is out of sync with the video.
Specifically I have been using Netflix and the default video player. Power saving is off. It should work fairly smooth and I'm literally 4 feet away so I don't think it's reception.
Any suggestions to smoothen the video playback?

FIXED ... turns out it is just a bug in the Netflix app. Every time I run it the problem starts and it carries over into the YouTube app and the video player. Reboot the device and everything runs fine, until you run the Netflix app again. Unfortunately the same bug in the Netflix app afflicts my Bluetooth headphones.
Wondering if it's an incompatibility with the device and that version of the Netflix app or what? And does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it

What's the Netflix fix?

Does anybody at Mad Catz have a thought on the matter? The hardware should be more than capable of running Netflix on a large screen without audio sync issues. Can you provide a proper app?

They seem to be more responsive if you write on their Facebook page.

We're not seeing any audio sync issues here, and going by reports from other users neither is anyone else. What's your complete hardware setup and do you get any sync issues with other programs such as xbmc or YouTube?
I'm just waiting on HD Netflix...Quality on Netflix on MOJO is severely lacking. I don't have any audio problems (at the moment), but the video is very pixelated.
Streaming YouTube and other movie apps in 1080 or 720 works perfectly for me 85% of the time. I'm thinking my few issues with those is because my wireless router just reached 12 years old and is constantly dropping signal.....Going this weekend to buy a new one.

TV is an LG 47" LED 120Hz. No audio sync issue with YouTube. Haven't tried xbmc.

Here's another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595446 with folks talking about the issue.

Actually, I was a bit hasty with my previous reply. My hardware set up includes a home theater sound system where the audio loops back through the TV. If I use the TV speaker, the lag is barely noticeable. If I turn off the TV speaker and use the amplifier, there is a very noticeable lag.

Yes, I was wondering if there was an amp in the loop, although the fact that it only does it for Netflix is a bit odd. Could you clarify though: are you connecting MOJO into the amp which then passes to the TV or are you connecting into the TV which is then passing audio to the amp (and, if so, what kind of connection? Optical? Phono?). If it is the latter then some amps have settings to accommodate for audio lag.

The MOJO is connected directly to the TV via an HDMI cable. Likewise, the amplifier, which is a Sony Model # STR-DH520, is also connected directly to the TV via an HDMI cable. I looked thru the manual and found a "SYNC ON" setting which delays the "output of audio to minimize the time gap between output and visual display" The delay time given is 60ms. I'll play around with it later today and see what impact it has. Maybe I had it on when it should have been off, or vice-a-versa. Thanks for the input on this!
I guess you're using all of the HDMI inputs on the amp already?

I will confess to having bought the TV and amp, etc., two years ago, and now I don't really remember what led me to make the setup choices I made at the time, but no, I wasn't using all the HDMI inputs on the amp, and frankly, I didn't even check to see if it had available HDMI inputs on the amp when I connected the MOJO. Connecting the MOJO directly into the amp and ensuring the correct A/V sync setting eliminated the delay completely. Thanks!

I have audio sync issues too. Audio seems to lag behind the video. And always when I watch netflix, the screen flashes, like gets smaller, idk how to describe it, often when watching shows. No matter what shows I watch it always does this. Probably 20 times at least throughout an hour long show.

If you've read this entire thread, you're aware my problem was similar to yours. I too had seen the occasional screen "flash" when watching Netflix. I'd recommend plugging your MOJO directly into your TV, using the TV's speaker, and eliminating any other hardware that might be in the loop in order to see if the issue truly lies in your MOJO, and is not being caused by some other component. Connecting my MOJO directly to my amp solved all my audio sync issues.

Mine is directly hooked up thru the TVs HDMI port. No difference if I have anything else plugged into the TV or not
And you're only using the TV's speaker? (rather than then output your TV's audio to an external speaker/amp?)
Are you running the 0110 firmware release and do you see the same issue with other video playback programs?

Yes, using the TV's speaker. My mojo came with the 0110 firmware release. Only Netflix has this issue. Have reset my wireless router to make sure that wasn't the problem either. Mojo is the only hardware hooked up to this tv.
If it would help, I could capture a video of what it's doing on my phone.

I no longer have any audio sync issues, but I do still see the occasional "flash" while watching Netflix. It looks like the image changes sizes for a fraction of a second. Haven't seen it with any other App.

Yes, that's the same problem I have with Netflix (along with the audio sync issues). It doesn't bother me enough to not watch it but it can be disorienting when watching at nite in a dark room. It does it a lot for me. I notice it the most when scenes change.
Edit:
I just got root tonight. I see on the Play Store that I can now update Netflix to the latest version. I will do that and get back to ya'll and see if that changes anything! As soon as I'm done downloading more games....
Ok, so last night I went out and bought a new TV for my MOJO. Picked up a 42" Sharp 1080p 120hz LED. I don't know if it's because this TV is 120hz compared to my 2010 32" Vizio 1080p 60hz, but the Netflix issue has been resolved. No more audio sync issues. I also noticed this TV has a Clear Motion setting, I have it set to on. Not sure if this has something to do with it either. Anyways, it's fixed, for now.
BTW, anyone looking for a deal on a TV of this relative size, it's a steal. Only $399 at Best Buy. The picture is awesome, and 120hz over 60hz is a night and day difference. Much more clear during on screen motion than my old tv. I'm very impressed. I can't imagine how good a 240hz or 480hz set looks like.
Edit:
Forgot to mention, the screen flashing/resizing is still happening. Very annoying. I really feel this is an issue with the app itself, hopefully it's getting fixed with an update. Can't wait to start watching in HD aswell...

YouTube video lagging behind audio

I've been having a strange problem recently. No root/ROM...etc
Whenever I play a YouTube video, and regardless of how blazing fast my internet is, the video keeps freezing and resuming while the audio continues uninterrupted. Any help there?
Thanks
Same problem with Netflix too
I'm having the same problem. Not just Youtube, Netflix as well. Only with mine; the audio lags behind the video. I would love to find a solution for this.
-Verizon Note 3
-Stock 4.4.2 that it shipped with.
-Audio lag on videos, right out of the box. No foreign apps installed yet besides Netflix.

Video freezing

Whenever playing a videos on kodi or mobdro 24/7 feeds. When one video ends and the next starts the video freezes but I still get audio. It don't do it on my fire stick only on the shield. Does anyone else have an idea why

terrible screencast quality - screen casting not optimised for this device error -

I have Chromecast set up on my Sony TV. I regularly cast screen from my Moto x, picture quality is superb.
On my new 6t, upon connection of the screen casting, I get a toast that says "screen casting not optimized for this device.". . I can see my phone screen on the TV but it looks very pixelated and just general awful quality - nowhere near acceptable.
Has anyone else had this issue and if not, what method do you use for screen casting? My TV also supports Miracast which is screen mirroring(the 'enable wireless display' option under cast menu) and that fails to connect whatsoever with this device (6t).
Any input would be much appreciated, thank you
&Mod please move to q&a if you can. Accidentally posted in wrong section
I don't have any issues and I cast everything. I have a TMO 6t and I don't have regular cable. It could be an issue with your app? Have you been tied uninstalling and reinstalling? Make sure you are using the official Google app for screen mirroring. It works a lot better than other apps out there
I'm not using an app .I'm using the cast option under connection settings..
Yeah. This is something that has been bugging me since I noticed it a week or so ago. I have a Vizio 4k TV with a Chromecast built in. When I cast the screen of my 6t using the Cast button in Quick Settings, my TV reports it's only receiving a 720p signal. If I cast from YouTube Vanced, Netflix, HBO Go, the TV will report 1080p. If I cast a game from the NHL or MLB app those too are only 720p, although they do appear to be higher quality. However what bugs me the most is when I try to view photos or video taken with the phone's camera. I took some video at 1080p/60fps and when I cast it to the TV using Google Photos it will only cast at 720p and the video looks horrible. Same with pictures.
I tried VLC and it would cast in 1080p but 60fps video was really choppy. Also, if the video is recorded in portrait, it's rotated to landscape on the tv.
I tried AllCast and it cast in 1080p and was smooth with 60fps video. However, it doesn't handle videos in portrait properly either.
Any recommendations for an app that can handle casting local files at it's full resolution that also handles portrait video properly?
I tried it after seeing you having problems, but it works fine for me. It's not as smooth as regular casting (as in streaming via Chromecast, rather than screen mirroring) but there's not much in it. I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Hmm interesting..well thank you for the input
My new Oneplus 8pro China 11In2020 build has problem too. Cast quality very poor. What to do? My recent Poco F1 was top notch with little delay. But 8 pro, I did not expect.
