Woke up to a [possibly] bricked Atrix :(

Yup. Left phone on charger overnight - woke up and the camera was flashing every 2 seconds. That's all it will do. Whether it's hooked up, unhooked. As long as the battery's in that's what it does. No rom changes in over 2 weeks. No damage of any sort.... no recovery or anything

Well you can probably do a warranty exchange.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

I had something similar with my nexus one. Except it wasnt the camera but the trackball... changing kernels around seem to help a bit but eventually i took it for water damage. Take the battery out and let it dry off for a day or two. You can also try to pry it open and have your hand at any corrosion if you find any. However i wouldnt recommend that unless you know what yer doing.

I realize that but like i said i had the same experience and my phone didnt get noticably wet at any time could have been a single drop of water and corrosion takes a while to build up.
Still...
Im wondering if you used your original charger when this happend because i can personally say ive seen my atrix behaving strange when connected to some cheap random charger (touch screen not working for example). Didnt believe it could cause permenant damage though.

It was hooked up with a Blackberry charger, actually.
Still acts the same.

Check the charger to see if its power ratings are different than your otiginal one.
Also... does the device boot up in any way or is the screen simply black and the flash flickering no matter what?

Looking at it today, I noticed that the charger port (or inlet if you will) is very structurally loose. The voltage on the blackberry charger is about 3/5 that of the stock Atrix charger, if memory serves me - somebody at work switched out the chargers the day after I got the phone. It took a good 6 hours to charge...

I'm looking into the Mi-One.

Moto will probably either fix it or send you another phone. I know people who bricked from trying to downgrade and they got another phone. I'm sure you could too. I would try that before you buy another phone.
ETA: Now that I think about it not being able to put the rom back to stock would probably be an issue if they can get it to turn on but if they can't they might replace it.

I also think you should bring it up with motorola. Waking up to find your phone bricked is hardly what id call personal damage. You also shouldn't bring up the charger issue. And as for the usb port i'd say it would take too much effort to discern the connection with that and the phone acting as it is, and im sure they would rather just send a replacement unit.
A usb port malfunctioning is hardly an account for personal damage. The usual case is they simply stop working, but definitely not brick your entire phone.

Will the Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charger Work With My Rev 11 Nexus 4 (4.2.2)?

I bought the DT-900 earlier on this week assuming it would work as it's QI compatible but have heard stories on here of people getting issues.
Should I just send it back without bothering to open the package?

From what i heard is that Nokia wireless chargers cannot be used by android devices and in some cases may even be hazardous to your phone.
I wouldn`t try it myself.

I have one and it works okay. The charging light on the charger stays constantly lit with the phone on it but the charging text on the phone will cut on and off for about a minute then eventually become steady. I also found that the position of the phone on the charger is critical, I place mine so that about an inch of the bottom of the charger is still visible. It doesn't work so well if the phone is directly centered on the device. It would give me a 30% boost in about an hour so its working okay. I was using it everyday for two months so I don't know where people come off saying it will damage your phone especially when they don't even own it. I had to stop using it as I put a Ringke case on it and you can't charge thru it.
Edit; I took the case off and it seems to be charging better since I update to 4.2.2. It will now lock onto charging almost immediately even centered.

That's good to know. I'm quite looking forward to using it now.
Will report my findings tomorrow.

Right just to confirm, it's working fine for me. Yes the charging text flickers on and off a few times but the phone eventually settled down nicely.
Got the charger on my desk. Really loving this phone even more now!

not charging

im down to 13%, i did a full reset.
i have it turned off currently, it shows a charger is plugged in for about 2 seconds and then that one is not plugged in. i have tried about 5 different chargers now.
anyone else have this? any ideas?
it is at&t stock. never rooted or rommed
i have removed the sim and sd-card.
could it be the battery?
i still have it turned off and plugged in. it had a quick flash of a red battery.
It's been charging for about 30 minutes turned off, powered it up, is taking a charge, just slowly. I think it's a bad battery. I work for att, I'll swap the battery out tomorrow and report if it was a bad battery or not so if others have this issue they will know what's wrong.

OK, went and got a new battery and it did not fix it.
Anyone got any ideas?
I just factory reset it as well, so to recap,
Factory reset, and new battery, 6 different chargers tried. Im assuming bad phone unfixable by me.

got the unbranded version in the Netherlands. No special stuff going on (i.e. no root or exotic cables/chargers)
had this a couple of days earlier but after removing the battery, swapping wall outlets, (several) Usb2 and usb3 cables it started charging again. I don't know what set it off to start charging again
with the phone on, it did display in the status bar that is was charging, just the battery didn't fill up. So it did recognize the fact that there was power coming through the cable
before it started charging, when the phone was turned off and i put the cable in it, the phone started vibrating with intervals and a line appeared on the screen at longer intervals.
after turning the phone off, the charging led indicator did not burn even though the charging cable was connected
since i've been able to recharge it a couple of times since, i thought it was an one-off freak incident
Just now the problem came back and i'm going through all the stupid things described above: pulling out batteries, switching chargers, blowing down the connecor in case some dust or something else was blocking the pins.
No luck so far.

This happened to my exynos version (India ) yesterday. I remember charging through my laptop before this happened. Strangely after i reconnected it to power it would not charge though the charging icon was showing up. After sometime somehow it started charging again. This has never happened before and I am not sure what's wrong. If this continues I am done with Samsung.

Sad to say I'm having the same issue on my week old Note 3.
It charged fine for the first few days but now I've determined that I have to put slight pressure on the cable to maintain a charging state. Basically if the phone is face down, I have to press down slightly on the USB3.0 connector.
Since I've rooted and flashed I'm not too keen on taking the new phone in for service so I've ordered another cable to test.
I read on another forum that people were having problems charging with the original OEM cable but no problems with USB2.0 cables and replacement USB3.0 cables. Hope that's the case, but it seems to me that the charging port may be bad.

If the phone barely charges or not at all when turned on, yet it still detects a charge, there's something running that drains more power than is being supplied. Start by checking active apps.
I had this on the IC Amsterdam - Berlin when I was playing a game, it kept going down at full rate even with the charger connected (The DB has powersockets in their trains, the thing the NS is too cheap to do.). Turned out the game was still running in the background even though I had quit it.
Force-quit everything non-critical in running applications and voila, it started charging. Slowly, but it did.
Another thing that bears relevance to mention is that sometimes there's not enough charge coming through a socket, usually when there's already too many devices on a single group or the socket is limited (like in trains, campsites, planes...)

im having the same problem. im startint to think its is an issue with the usb socket on the phone.
I read some where that if you let the phone go completely flat and then let the phone charge without turning it back on it (just leave it on the sceen with the battery charging icon). I've tried and this seems to help (I only did this yesterday and pluged the phone in again after some use this morning and its charging again).
But I think there is an underlying issue with the hardware sometime my phone indicates that it has connected to dock when this isn't the case, only for a second but I think with the problems charging and the issue with the false dock connection would suggest that there is something wrong with the usb port itself.
Im probably going to take mine in for repair.

This usually happens when there are metalic particles in the USB port.
Have you tried cleaning it with a needle/toothpick? Dont forget under the USB pin.

Thanks, I had a close look for any sort of dirt/conductive sort of material but it seems to be clear.
I keep the phone in a case which protects the ports and keep everything as clean as possible. The phone is only a couple of weeks old so it's still quite fresh.
But i know what you mean the usb terminals are small it would only take a small bit of something to cause a problem.

This might sound crazy, but try this... Drop your phone from a height of about 2 feet onto probably a hard foam or soft wood or that kinda thing.. Drop it on it's back of course. Anyways, 2 Feet is a very short drop for phone to get damaged. Just try.

why?

Had a similar problem recently. Phone just wouldnt hold a charger longer than around 60 minutes.
I was able to take my phone back into the store and get a replacement. It was only 2 weeks old.
Try that

is there a way you can reset the battery as you do when in root?

Apart from the fact that it would take me longer to calculate how much 2 feet is than it takes for the phone to fall, I think I can speak for most people here when I say I'm rather hesitant to let a 700 euro/1200 dollar phone fall off anything.
The idea alone is rather disconcerting...
You could just as well give it a good whack with your flat palm, as the idea is to jar the wiring into place.
'Apply blunt force', One of the more classic troubleshooting approaches. No longer advisable these days, technology is ever so much more fragile than it was in the days of Nokias that could be used to commit murder by means of blunt force trauma and tv's that could electrocute you just by looking at it.

Mate 2 feet is like 2 notebooks high, or 1 closed laptop high. And it's not falling of something, it's likee playfully dropping ur phone. But of course! You shouldn't try it if you don't want to, ok?
And I don't know where you guys buy your phones or what the currency situation is in your countries, but I got my phone for $700 (510 euros) in my country on release day. Which includes 2 years ADH warranty and 2 years regular warranty. :victory:

1000USD+ is very normal for a smartphone in the EU. Long live the Euro... NOT.
The price is still 678euro in the Netherlands (which they make look less cheap by fooling everyone into thinking the price is 578, which it actually is with 100 euro cashback after you buy it... And of course they all fall for it, some even use it as arguments )...
The Note 3 was 750 Euro in the Netherlands (699 Germany where I got it) upon release day, a whopping 1400USD in the exhange ratings at that time. 'So buy it here/there/whereever and have it shipped' (I've had this discussion a thousand times with all those americans) No, there was no regionlock away or even root at that time yet.
All electronic prices are ridiculously, pointlessly high here.
Would that be a 17.3" or 15" laptop? Horizontal or vertical?

Oh well! Bad for you guys! I bought my S4 for $650, sold it $500 after 5 months of use! Then didn't hesitate in spending $700 on the Note 3
2 feet is 0.6096 meters. I said a closed laptop. Not opened. And it's not like its a sure/known fix.. I just said try...

No....and most likely never will be.
I have the T-Mobile branded V20 and it doesn't have the tabs for wireless like the V10 had.

The LG v20 does support wireless charging... At least a according to LG's site... The back cover does not have contact points because it's already made from metal... And wireless charging is the worst thing to do to your phone... Just saying.

I've never seen any proof that rhe V20 has wireless charging. What the are you talking about the back already being metal? That doesnt explain why the phone lace the charging pins that are needed. How is a slow charge more damaging than a quick charge? I guess that the coils can generate heat but....

I'm still waiting for the person to supply the link that calls out the wireless charging.
Think we'll be waiting a long time.

The back cover is metal, therefore the entire back is a conductor... All of the spots you see here are contact points to the phone frame, the two major ones are near the camera opening.

What's the link to the web page you said had information to the V20 supporting wireless charging?

Actually read that best buy canceled orders of wireless charging back plates for most phones after the note 7 fiasco. Also sorry, the two contacts near the camera bezel are for nfc... The other spots were contacts are made were to be for wireless charging back plates, the pads on the back cover are insulation so the contacts do not touch the metal on the stock back plate, and lg customer service has now back pedaled on there stance of it being wireless charging compatible. So it seems it is, but it won't be released due to concern of a Samsung type disaster.
And yes, the heat generated by wireless charging could reduce battery life by over 50% if you use it exclusively. Why I said it was horrible for batteries (Lithium)
Supposedly, the note 7 problem was due to the battery being made to thin, which cause the chemical separation plate in side the battery to fail from heat, and or damage from drops, and being struck. After it failed, the chemicals mix and boom.

The only proof I was able to find now it a screen shot of an lg reps conversation on reddit... All the stuff I read months ago is now gone... Google it and click on the reddit link to see this pic. Other than that it seems that everything else is gone...

You realize that you made a statement about the back plate and the completely retracted everything you said in the second response. I'm not trying to be an asshole here but please make sure that you have your facts straight before posting it.
There is is no proof that those 10 pins are for wireless charging. A giant metal door can not wireless charge. You would need a coil for that. Controlled resistance and magnetic fields. I'm not saying that the pins are not for wireless charging though. If there is wireless charging, the back will have to be replaced.

It's the internet, don't get an aneurysm over a simple post. Reddit posts are hardly facts. All the other proof that you claim to have magically disappeared is just another internet post that I don't take serious. Calm down.
It's not my fault that you post false information then realize how nonsensical it was less than an hour afterward. You then get angry at me for calling you out. Are you going to apologize for that information about wireless charging heating up batteries more than quick charging? The heat is only generated at the coils themselves. The batteries remain much cooler as the energy input to them are low.

It's not my fault that you post false information then realize how nonsensical it was less than an hour afterward. You then get angry at me for calling you out. Are you going to apologize for that information about wireless charging heating up batteries more than quick charging? The heat is only generated at the coils themselves. The batteries remain much cooler as the energy input to them are low.

Lmao, yeah I'm so upset... Once again, I corrected my mistake and apologized for my misplaced statements long before you even read any of it... I know I messed up and corrected myself. You did absolutely nothing but acted like the self absorbed douche canoe that you are... I also stated that the only lg info left is a guys screen shot from reddit... Which by no means is a statement of fact... I only said it is the only thing you can find anywhere remotely tied to LG regarding wireless charging... I could honestly care less if you believe me or not, I could care less if my v20 ever gets wireless charging or not... In my opinion, and the opinion of many others wireless charging is bad for the life of Lithium batteries... Besides that, I have two extra batteries, and a damn cradle... Which I rarely use as is, plus a charge pack I carry for my speaker... I was reading this thread, got curious, did some research, and was misinformed, did some more research and found stuff which seems more accurate, yet is still inconclusive... So in closing, instead of quoting my posts, and my self correction of my post, why don't you post something meaningful, since you claim to have all the damn answers and not one shread of proof. At least I have the balls to say my first post was wrong... You aren't telling me a damn thing I didn't already know, or admit to for that matter... on wish.com you can order the c type wireless receiver that plugs in and sticks to the back of the phone and will fit under your case, and you can also get the charge pad also, I just want this for when I am at work, have the charge pad, I am now ordering the receiver

The problem with the current receivers is that they max out at 1 amp at 5v of input to the phone. You'll get an error that states "Charging Slowly" Use the charger and cable that were provided with this phone, or check the cable is properly connected." On clearing the error it will charge but... huh... slowly. I don't believe it's damaged the battery as it still gets me through a day. It's just a pain having to clear the error. So if it eventually damages the battery or shortens it's life - I'll get a new battery. As we all know they're easily replaced.

I've said I'd never buy a phone without wireless charging... well - here I am. It's too convenient to plop your phone on the charger on your nightstand, your desk, and in your car. I'm hoping we get wireless charging as this is the only thing that can get me to change out my V20 (as of today). Love the phone.
If it's hard on the battery, I'll replace the battery - which we can do and many others can't.

Technically the phone will need an attachment or special back cover to enable wireless charging support but, the last we heard from our product specialists, there are still no plans to make this accessory available currently.

I too said the same thing--coming from an S7 Edge and many others with wireless charging, I was in love with it. However, I rarely used my wireless charging because QuickCharge is so fast! I can bring my phone to a full charge a phone in about an hour, before bed, so I don't need to drop it on the charging pad all night. Same goes for the morning before work. I bought 10ft USB cables on aliexpress.com and because of this phone, just bought microUSB to USB-C connectors for all my cables. They had a 5-pack for $8, I'm pretty happy. Even my car charger is an Anker QC 3.0 compatible, so it charges just as quickly.
Unlike with the Samsung, it'll be nice to have a second battery for road trips. There is a big difference between swapping a second battery over carrying around a charging brick and having your phone connected while it charges slowly back up when you're sight-seeing.

At this point I guess it's unlikely that a 3rd party will make a proper sticker either - the kind that does not use the USB port. It's really unfortunate that LG dropped the ball with the back cover. I got the V20 on sale for half price, but really considering going back to Note 4 while I still can. V20 just seems like too much of a trade off in features.

Found this cover that claims to have wireless charging functionality. But their own pictures show that it's just plastic - no receiver, no contacts visible.

Anyone heard of a heat issue with this phone?

Making this out of curiosity sake. YMMV obviously individually, but was reading LG's Facebook (it came up as a sponsored link) and there's some people mentioning the phone getting so hot it burns. There is also mentions of glass cracking (presumably from heat?) and there's a picture of charger cable nuked on Imgur...
I almost never read FB but I need it for business. I only saw the comments when reading the LG sponsored links. I really only read XDA/reddit but seeing the amount of comments spread across several posts. I was more surprised to have not seen it here with the complaints of the camera lens cracking...

The only thing I've noticed is when charging my phone gets massively hot. I thought my S5 was hot... but this one has been noticeable to the point it's almost a bit concerning. So it was weird I'd been noticing this lately and then to read the posts, I'm like... well, there might be something to that. But more curious if others had noticed anything peculiar than concerned atm... My laptop charger gets stupid hot too, but it hasn't melted yet so I guess it just depends on different variables.
It's only when charging though. It is too hot to hold when it's at it's worst so I have to "fan" it out. Anyway, they make these things so temperamental (literally) now...

Multi-year lurker, first time posting.
I saw this photo yesterday and it's certainly a concern. I mean, it was so hot the plastic melted onto his skin However, the imgur's OP doesn't show what charger was being used.
I've only had the phone for a couple of days, but so far I've charged two of these LG G6 phones with a variety of chargers and cables. I've used the original charger, computers, car chargers, multi-port chargers, and a wireless charging pad (with both the original cable and 3rd party cables) and not once it's gotten anywhere near hot.
Just one thought - the only thing I can think of that would contribute to the crazy heat is the fast charging capabilities. That is one thing I have not done - use the included charger to charge the phone directly. The one thing I use it for is to power the wireless charging pad. So that might account for the fact that I haven't experienced this crazy heat you're experiencing. Charged my phone with the fast charger and it remained cool as a cucumber, even inside a full cover case. YMMV

I have left the fast charger supplied with the phone plugged in for hours. Never got hot. Software controls it. It will get warm as any processor does during use so any software using the processor can heat up the phone. I have not experienced any abnormal heat issues. I known the old Samsung wojkd darn near give me 3rd degree burns it would get so hot, but the G6 is the coolest running phone I've had in a long time. YMMV

The only time I notice it get warm on the back side of the phone while charging is while I'm using it at the same time. Not burn your hands warm, but toasty. I do leave it plugged in and turned on as a bedside clock but I haven't noticed it get hot just from that. It's only when I'm multitasking or watching YouTube or Netflix. But these fast chargers do concern me a bit. My Nexus 6 had micro usb fast charging and I noticed the battery life degraded horribly just after about 2 years of using the phone. That was the one thing I liked about the S7 I traded in for the G6 was that you were able to go into the system settings and turn off fast charge. That should be an option on all phones equipped with fast charge capabilities.
