[GUIDE] How To Install ARISE On Pixel XL 8.0 Oreo - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

DISCLAIMER: I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.
So, after countless hours of tinkering and searching around the forums, I was able to successfully install V4A and Dolby onto my Pixel XL.
I realized after a while, I realized that there were many others like me who wanted this, but some were not as vigilant and gave up as the process was different depending on who you asked and everyone was giving mixed results.
I decided that I could give back a bit to the community by writing up a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this.
Even after I installed V4A successfully, I, against my own sanity, wiped my phone again and followed my own steps one by one to ensure it worked.
SO, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, here's what I did...
STEP 1: Back up all data. Unless you don't care about that junk, then move right along.
STEP 2: Download the factory image from here: Oreo Factory Images for Pixel XL
STEP 3: Follow the steps to unlock the bootloader (guide #3) and to install the factory image (guide #4 or #5). LINK TO GUIDES BY Homeboy76
STEP 4: Follow the steps to root the device systemlessly (guide #8) LINK TO GUIDES BY Homeboy76
STEP 5: Install this BusyBox, on the top right corner, tap the 3 dots, go to settings, set the install path to /sbin/supersu/xbin and then install BusyBox.
STEP 6: Download and flash ARISE Aroma and choose what you want through the Aroma installer. (The last options I kept default, the ones that are about removing deep buffer and all the ones following that, yes, this means set SELinux to permissive, it's one of the last options, this does, indeed break SafetyNet, so if Android Pay is a must have, I would not recommend continuing.)
STEP 7: Reboot to system and enjoy better sound!
I'm no developer, I take no responsibility for the development of any of the above linked or mentioned applications. All credits go to those hardworking developers, much thanks to them! However, if this guide did help, please feel free to thank and leave a reply and share this to those who are also in the search for better audio!

If this works, you are a God! I can't find Arise aroma installer in that post you linked. Are you running Dolby in permissive or is that the original one by worstenbrood?

Here's the direct link to ARISE aroma: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767141554
It's the first link in the post that I linked.
And at the end of the aroma installation, it asks if you want to set SELinux to Permissive and I just set that to yes, since that's the default value.
I installed only V4A and Dolby and they both work fine.

Thanks, I forgot what a convoluted mess that ARISE OP is. Lol. Might want to mention the permissive for Dolby in your OP. Let you know if it works. Im confident you got it. ?

Haha, thanks man, and no problem, took me a while to find it myself. Best of luck to you!
And yeah, that's what I meant by keeping everything default, since I can't remember what the exact values and options were off the top of my head now while I'm writing this up at work lol. But I'll add that part in there in a bit. :fingers-crossed:

No problem! That's the great part of this community, everyone out here (well, most of us) to help each other out.
Plenty of times I've benefited from other's hard work and write ups, just trying to pay it back in full now.
Enjoy the music my friend, I sure have. It was between buying new speakers for my car or just putting in some time to figure out how to get this to work

I'll confirm that following this guide to the T will indeed get you working ARISE/V4A on your Oreo Pixel XL. Instead of using the ARISE version in the first post I used Magnum Opus 9/8 so I'm not sure it maters what ARISE version you use so long as it's fairly current.

I tried with Opus for a while, and it didn't work once for me, so it might be hit or miss, but I'm happy it's working for ya'll!

I didn't try it on a custom kernel, but from my understanding, it should work, at least that's what I found when searching about.

I had Arise installed then at some time my phone reboot (possible kernel panic?) and when I unlocked my phone it asked me to disable Arise. Now I have to do this process all over again.

Google Play Protect thinks it's malware and automatically disables it. Everything is still there. Go into app settings and enable it again. Everytime it scans apps this will happen. I have to find away around this or disable Google play protect.

Don't worry, as Golf c has said, it'll be there, you can ignore the warnings. I got these a few days in as well and just ignored them and everything was fine.

Looking into what we can do about this, but honestly, I think it's fine to just ignore the warning whenever it pops up.

Thanks to this mod and you friend. Working good...

Ya I'm on ex kernel and it works fine.

Couldn't make it work with Magisk. Might have to go back to SuperSU. Can't live without it for too long.

[GUIDE] Flashing ROMs to the Vivo Air

Alright, so following some prodding, searching, and questioning, I flashed MIUI V6 to my BLU Vivo Air alongside TWRP.
I will update this post with a detailed, step-by-step guide including my own personal mirrors for your convenience and those of you without 4PDA accounts, which is the Russian equivalent of XDA.
Upon booting, I noticed apps force closing without being launched. Namely Hangouts and Newsstand. I'm sure reinstalling them will resolve the issue rather quickly.
Stay tuned for updates.
Update 1:
TWRP had difficulty mounting data and cache for me, and was unable to format them. This led to applications force closing, window mishaps, and accounts glitching out. I just flashed Carliv recovery, and flashed MIUI with it. Flashing gapps at the moment, and will update you on my progress.
Update 2:
Currently attempting to format data (success), cache (success), and dalvik (success).
Update 3:
Rebooting into MIUI V6, checking if I've entered a bootloop.
5 seconds - Boot animation reached, "MIUI Pro."
165 seconds - Still booting.
180 seconds - Setup screen reached, MIUI V6 flashed successfully.
Update 4:
Google apps flashed successfully, no redraws or force closes this time. Had an issue with the keyboard not registering as being selected, Google voice typing appeared as the default. Pull down notification shader and "choose input method" to select MIUI Smart Keyboard. Signed into Google successfully. Will run preliminary tests on video playback, camera, and multitasking.
Guide:
If you mess up your phone, it is on you, and I am not to be held liable for your actions. This is your responsibility. A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine. With that out of the way, if you encounter troubles, I am more than happy to help you.
Step 1:
Root your phone using one of the links provided. Click HERE for method 1, or HERE for method 2. I personally used method 1 because it was the first I saw. They both get the job done.
Step 2:
Install THIS application (Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources), and install a recovery. I installed Carliv recovery, and had no problems with it. You can also install TWRP, however, it had issues mounting data and cache. This left it unable to factory reset when I flashed MIUI, which subsequently led to problems. I do not recommend flashing TWRP - You have been warned. Carliv recovery says it can't "mount" cache, although when formatting it does so without a problem. I believe Carliv is supposed to be touch-based, although the touches weren't responding for me. The controls are as follows: Volume +/- for navigating, Power for selecting, and the Back key for, you guessed it, going back.
Step 3:
Install MIUI V6, located HERE, and then install Google Apps, located HERE. After installing, factory reset the device from recovery and reboot into the system. I posted my timestamps at the top of the post, so you can get an idea of how long your flash/boot process should take.
Step 4:
Basic setup. Be ready to fix your keyboard if you had the same issue I did, which isn't even necessarily a problem. Choose WLAN network and sign into your accounts, then you're good to go.
To root the ROM, I recommend finding "iRoot" for your computer. Then boot to recovery and install the SuperSU zip, as it's better than the root app which comes with the iRoot method.
Enjoy your ROM, and be sure to thank our Ruski comrades over at 4PDA!
Special thanks to @DvDwx. (research), @itsJohnuno (answers), and @Milly7 (testing).
All download links are being hosted by me, and I recommend creating mirrors of your own as safety precautions in the event that the files are removed or become unavailable.
Have a phenomenal day or night, possibly even both. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

I didn't create the resources in the ROM, I just made a guide to flashing ROMs using a specific ROM as an example. I would feel bad posting it in the developer section because I don't wish to be given credit for the ROM. I didn't make it.

Edit: The app mlp RIO recovery installer constantly freezes on me not allowing me to flash any of the recoveries.

Yeah. I've also noticed that downloading updates is botched, because it downloads an update for a different phone model. If you try to install it the installation will fail, but it won't hurt your phone.
All in all it's a pretty solid ROM for me.

Our Buddy @SSJGohon found the kernel source code and already shared on some topic(i Already re-shared that on Cyanogen Mod to Mediatek SoC's Development thread... but anyone there say nothing about it... and already shared on 4PDA to maybe the MiUi developer can Bring something to All...). i already downloaded and already start my research about what can be maked with that and for sure have a possibility to we have a custom Kernel and maybe Custom ROM like PURE AOSP, AOSPA... but Cyanogen Mod is more difficult because we don't have a updated Repo Source from MediaTek to work like Driver Blobs to GPU, Bluetooth, Wifi Drivers... etc
My real problem is i don't have all skills to make a custom kernel to Mediatek SoC because a lot of things change from Qualcomm to Mediatek.. but if anyone here want to try development that just search the topics with @SSJGohon comments replays :highfive:

I've already installed the ROM, it runs smoothly! You were right, I really like it! I had an issue trying to format /data, it took like 15 minutes, and did a hard reset (pressed power button for a few seconds) and tried to format again and it worked. Im a little bit worry cause I've had 2 radom reboots so far.. Any idea of what has happened to me?

[ROOT] How to root your OnePlus3T [Quick & Dirty]

All other threads on this subject are unnecessarily complicated and/or link to share sites with missing files and other hassles. I had to do tons of research and it took a long time and the community was not helpful over at OnePlus and it was hard to find much good information here. And that is strange considering my past experiences at XDA. But, this is what I came up with:
Use this video to guide you with your common sense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZaajUEybNM
That video is for another OnePlus device; the techniques are good but the files are bad. Simple substitution is all that is necessary and you can easily follow the directions with some common sense.
Do not use the links provided in the video; instead use these links:
Use this version of TWRP: https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus3t/
Get SuperSu here: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
Get Android Studio here: https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#Other
I just got my device and this totally worked for me. It's so easy; the only thing I would add is that you remember to have the unbrick tutorial handy just in case; so you have no need to panic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/unbrick-unbrick-tutorial-oneplus-3t-t3515306
And if cosmic rays destroy your phone, you may need the link to the official stock ROM as it stands right now: http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_4.0.2/ Perhaps the general downloads link? http://downloads.oneplus.net/
I hope this helps.

The TWRP link is fine. The (official TWRP) page it links it is automatically updated.
Just use the xda search function to find the Magisk and SuperSU forum sections/threads. Those are the best sources to get the latest Magisk or SuperSU files.
Not a fan of a "guide" thread that just tells you to "watch this YouTube video" and basically advocating to skip research and real learning. Doing these mods without the proper research and understanding, is just asking for trouble. There are plenty of good guides and resources around.

Yeah, apparently folks need to be shown how to click on things, and type things.
Seriously, I agree it's not that complicated. On the other hand, the video glosses over important details (if you are a beginner) such as how to open the command prompt to the right directory, making sure to use an updated version TWRP and SuperSU/Magisk. That is my main problem with YouTube tutorials. So much nuance is skipped. Teaching folks just enough to be dangerous.

What LS997-compatible ROM contains *all* working LG Stock Apps?

So the whole reason I rooted this damn phone was to be able to install working stock apps. Not just the Music and Gallery apps either--ALL THE LG APPS. Which LS997-compatible 100%-working ROM can I flash and get them all, if any? I keep hearing one exists, but no one bothers sharing that info and when I search I find nothing.

Im the only person developing a STOCK LS997 rom currently.. It contains the LG base apps and all the removed ones that we didnt get shipped with out model . Includes a ton of extras as well, alternatively we have 3 or 4 aosp roms you can use, but make sure you use twrp and backup your efs before flashing as it tends to jumble your programming up and cause issues. Otherwise you can flash the stock rom the Dev who provided the dirty santa unlock method.

Hey thanks--I was fairly sure this was the ROM in question. Thank you for providing this! I was hesitant to flash because I'm always a little skeptical about the amount of help I'll get should I get stuck. I'm not exactly a noob at this, but I have plenty to learn. It looks like you've done a lot of work to provide a positive experience, so I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I promise to read and re-read the instructions on the first 3 posts, and to NOT bother you with questions that have already been addressed in the thread. . Thanks!!

after going to AOSP and not having a backup of their programing info in their efs and having to find a way to
manually go in and fix each fd up piece.
The other is being on older software and downloading a OTA and rebooting with it in your internal storage.
This one causes a endless boot loop into twrp, so be advised to delete the update if your on older software or be prepared to
hit my post # 3 for fixes and be near a pc as you need to fastboot erase the fota and misc directories to resolve the boot loop. A twrp wipe will not fix it and restores etc wont either lol.
Otherwise theres now a lil over 100 pages of chatting and troubleshooting, fixes and things that have gone on, and mostly its all outdated as ive provided the fixes for 99% of everything in the latest version 7.5
Just be prepared to take 15-20 minutes for the phone to boot up the 1st time. My rom is deodexed, and the 1st boot is doing 298 things before you get to the optimization part. There is not boot animations as the phone will always have the static screen issue on reboots so i went ahead a placed a disabled command there to just save time/batt life. The setup wizard is stripped and only there to give you the notice its done booting and time to get to playing around.
Magisk is kinda finicy being its systemless design. It takes some time to get used to it, and be aware that some older apps that dont support exotic root or systemless root may not request root and not fully work. Titanium backup is one i know is getting attacked by googles app scanning and needs to have that turned off before it will work, most of my apps have a option to set "force root" so it asks for a root request regardless if it understands MagiskSu's root methods.
just some food for thought. Hope everything goes well, and there is a ton of people on the forum here that have great knowlege and can help with troubleshooting issues you may have

Yeah, I didn't have many problems there, although I did get stuck in the TWRP loop once.

The Simple Guide To Rooting The Alcatel Idol 4

Credit goes to dbgr for finding this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-4s/how-to/6055u-root-method-t3598947
Link to download .rar:
https://mega.nz/#!U24zwYbQ!MwbIX_D01OyHHldd8c_9iCmht6wzcw1duNpGO-PRyWI
This is just a simpler, more detailed guide on how to root this phone.
Forgive me for the lack of pictures, its pretty straightforward anyways. I have included a .rar with this post that has all the essential files you will need.
(I only compressed the .rar, everything else credit goes to the creators)
1. Download the rootpackage.rar i have included, and decompress to somewhere safe.
2. Install SugarQct and install the drivers that came with it. (In the SugarQct installer, not the usb driver folder)
3. After that has finished, open the usb driver folder and run the setup.vbs script there. It should only take a second or two to run.
4. Plug phone into pc.
5. Place supersu.zip onto phone. You can put this anywhere, doesn't really matter.
6. Turn phone off and place into download mode. (Phone must be plugged in to allow download mode)
4. Open sugar with phone plugged in. Be sure to upgrade sugar if you can't see the 6055u in the list.
Set to 6055u, go to options, select save user data. Now press upgrade.
5. While sugar is downloading overwrite the r*****.mbn in bin/6055-*****. This folder appears once you start to download to the phone. You must rename the twrp_recovery_idol4_6055.img to the name of the r*****.mbn.
6. Overwrite again while files are being written. Do this as many times as you please. I only overwrote it more than once as a safety precaution.
7. Before sugar has completed fully, but after files are written, this should be around the time when it starts to download more files. As long as the writing completes you are good to go.
8. Turn phone on and enter recovery mode (power + volume up).
9. In the custom recover menu tap install and install the supersu.zip from the directory you placed it in.
10. Give it a couple of seconds (mine took 30 or so)
11. Allow phone to be rebooted and its now rooted!
Now I've had some interest in using magisk instead of supersu, but i haven't been able to install it after supersu. Choose your rom to flash wisely, as its a pain in the ass to go back from.
Please enjoy your newly rooted Alcatel Idol 4!
Thanks all!
P.S. If someone can dump their standard rom before they flash supersu.zip onto their phone, i'd like to try and find a way to get a custom rom goin and that would help.
I'm not seeing the download for the .RAR file. Am I missing something?

I thought i attached it to the thread, give me a second and i'll try again.
Edit:
It seems my rar is too large, i'm headed to work now, but i'll try and get something uploaded in a bit.
Thank you. Much appreciated. Also, can I unplug the phone before rebooting to recovery,or does it have to be plugged in!

As far as i know it doesn't have to be, but when i was successful i believe i had the phone plugged in. I did try to do somethings earlier today and unplugged the phone, and it was not successful. I do not know if it was because i unplugged the phone or if it was because i had failed to rewrite the recovery flash.
Thank you. I actually didn't want to wait for .rar so I just pieced the files from the forum here. Thank you anyway,at least somebody else will get the RAR. Also,my phone was plugged in when it worked.
I got magisk working for me I unistalled super super went into twrp and installed magisk ( I needed magisk to play fire emblem heroes lol) I'm not sure if I did something else but that's what I remember doing
Is this guide working for all the idol 4 variants or just for the cricket one? I've got the 6055k and I'm wondering if this guide works for my phone too.

Theres another guide for the 6055k, i'm not sure if this will work for that one. I know it works for the cricket version and i see no reason why it wouldn't work for the 6055k, but it is a better idea to follow the guide made for the 6055k.

Thanks for the info, but funnily enough i'm having difficulties getting the damn thing rooted again.
Thanks for the write up, I've flashed and reflashed many times... you have to be carefully about when you interrupt the process. Also know that a newer version is out. Cheers mate.
I'm not sure if it's the latest version of Sugar, but I've been trying so many times, but to no avail. Has anyone had any luck on the new version?
SUGAR QCT_SP V11.3.0
I've gotten to the point that when I start the upgrade with Sugar, it says my phone is already rooted. However, when I try to access Recovery, there is no option to install TWRP. It looks like it just loaded the same old recovery...no matter how fast and how many times I replace the Rxxxxxx.mbn file.
Cheers,
Wickster

is there any guide to root 6055p model
no luck getting this to work guys, could really use some help
Having the same problems as PizzaG - tried all the timing tips no TWRP
Having the same situation as PizzaG - same Cricket version, using the newer version of Sugar QCT 11.1.3. I've tried starting right after it reaches the last written file (4095M), Ive even tried waiting until you get the vibrate and Alcatel logo (which happens at the very end of the download, but was someone's tip), same story, boots into Android recovery. Any other tips?
Possible Solution to Rooting Troubles
I was having the same troubles as the above posters. What seemed to be the problem was that I had set a pin code to unlock my device, which made it encrypted. Unfortunately, the only way to remove a pin is to do a factory reset. Anyway, I did a factory reset and ran sugar immediately after - making sure to start the phone before sugar finished - and it worked! Perhaps there is something simpler to do and I didn't have to do a factory reset, but I don't know what that is, and this worked.
Someone have try with the 6055A?
hmm, im noticing mine says encrypted as well but i never set anything for security. just the swipe. @ ThisEndsInTears did you do a factory reset from stock recovery or from withing the phone settings? Thanks much, hopefully one step closer to getting this rooted. Y has nobody developed cm for 6.0.1 for this? cm13 im pretty sure it is

Custom rom for better battery performance?

I have got the used z5c. It's stock rom with no unlock bootloader or rooted.
Because this phone is very old(3years) so the battery health is not so good. Maybe it is better performace if I flash it in custom rom?

Maybe... it will be much better if you install a custom rom (Lineageos) without gapps!! The Play-Services need a lot of energy.
i raccomend Resurrection Remix + Undervolting + microg + minimum big cores online set to 0 using kernel adiutor
I use the stock ROM but debloated (systemlessly), with some apps and services (and a few receivers) disabled as well. I also use a couple of scripts and Kernel Adiutor to tweak governor and VM settings.
You don't necessarily have to use a custom ROM and lose Sony-specific features to get good battery life!

hi, I think I like the sound of this - custom rom would mean forfeiting find my phone right?
could you explain in a little more detail what you mean by systemlessly debloating ? actually a guide to doing exactly what you did would be awesome what did you disable and which scripts did you use? does this involve rooting the phone? I'm not a total noob, have flashed custom roms before but usually get guidance from a friend.
any info appreciated! just got this phone second hand and it struggles to last 2 days on one charge.
Thanks,
D
PS - sad to see compact phones go, I find even the z5 compact to be slightly too big coming from a galaxy ace 3 , and I have huge hands. I just want to be able to use my phone with one hand, lying in bed holding it above my head without it falling out of my hand and hitting me in the face ! the square edges don't help, and the case doesn't grip well enough - what case are you using?

Hi,
You could definitely use Google's Find My Device with a custom ROM, but I think you would lose access to Sony's 'my Xperia' service.
Unlocking the bootloader
The process of unlocking your bootloader and rooting has *many* steps, but I used this guide - and it was smooth, but took a little while: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/general/guide-how-to-root-z5c-painful-using-t3549388
Things have changed since then, so if you plan to root I think some of the final steps will be different.
Modified steps:
- I later used the TA PoC tool - this would replace steps 6 and 7. For this tool you would disable dm verity, Sony RIC and force encrypt, but not install recovery. TA PoC has instructions in the script, it's nice.
- *edit* Instead of using the TA PoC tool, a modified version of rootkernel, as in the original guide, can be used to replace steps 6 and 7. Rename the backed up file from step 1 to TA.img and copy it into the rootkernel folder, then run the script with these options:
Disable dm-verity? Y
Disable force-encrypt? Y
Disable Sony RIC? Y
Install TWRP recovery? N
Install superuser? N
Install DRM fix? N
Install munjeni's TA PoC? Y
Install busybox? N
- Skip step 9. (You can install Xposed through Magisk later)
- Flash a recovery separately. I use this one
Rooting
Once the bootloader is unlocked and you have a custom recovery, you can install Magisk which seems to be the main way to root devices these days (I love it). As well as root management, it allows you to make changes to the system partition without actually touching the partition ("systemlessly") by installing modules in the Magisk Manager. It can also run scripts on boot.
Installation instructions are here but basically flash the Magisk zip in recovery.
Debloating
There is one module called Terminal Debloater which hides system apps of your choosing from the phone, as if they were uninstalled. You choose from a text-based list in a terminal emulator. I don't think I can explain it well, but there is a video!
[Magisk] How to Uninstall System Apps using Magisk
With root (and an app such as Titanium Backup) you could just disable them all instead but using this module felt cleaner to me
I think the list of apps that you don't need (and thus can be debloated or disabled) will be specific to you, but there are Google apps like Hangouts, Chrome, Photos, the Google app, Google Print Recommendation Service that I hid, as well as many Sony apps (perhaps ironic since my whole point was about keeping Sony features ha) like Support, What's New, Movie Creator, Xperia Lounge. And lots of weird little things like GoogleAnalyticsProxy, AnonymousData, CrashMonitor, phone-usage, pip - my phone has been fine without them.
I've attached my list from Terminal Debloater (it can be imported but it might be helpful just to look at)
This is another nice module if you ever find your phone's temperature to be a problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/z3-z4-z5-fsc-improve-performance-t3673785
I use a governor script which I attached here with an app called Kernel Adiutor - it lets you change lots of settings but I mainly use it just to make sure that script runs at the right time. Part of the script sets the minimum number of big cores online to 1 (0, as in the post above mine, didn't work for me!)
(My other main script disables a few Google Play Services... services that I don't want running, every reboot. I don't want to make you break anything so I won't go into more detail at this point!)
The bad news
2 days on a single charge sounds pretty good I don't know what improvements all of this could provide, maybe you'd get to 3 days? Maybe it's not even worth it haha. I like having root though.
P.S.
I genuinely don't know what phone I'll move to if (when?) this one dies. You're right about the edges, they definitely affect the ergonomics of the phone. I still remember the way my HTC One S fit in my hand so beautifully compared to this phone!
I use this Ringke case. It's a little thick but it's worked very well. I drop this thing all the time and it's still fine.
So many links, sorry. I hope some of this is useful.
+-
But wait, there's more!
Worked out how to list the packages I have disabled (instead of debloated). Mostly Sony apps again lol. Now that I think about it there's a fair amount of bloat...

what a comprehensive response, LEGEND !
I saw that case but decided against it because the microusb port cover is just annoying, you can't connect it with one hand comfortably so it's more trouble than benefit
I used to have a nice rubbery original nokia cover on my N8 but can't find that anymore, I really liked that it wouldn't slide out my pocket...

:good:
You could cut off the port cover but it's a pretty extreme solution.
This may be a nice alternative. I think a potential problem with TPU cases is that some are advertised as slim and they're possibly too thin to actually protect the phone when dropped...

Thank you for your excellent instructions, but have a little problem...
Booted fine off the Ta Poc new_boot.img
Booted up good through initial setup.
Flashed TWRP - good.
Installed Magisk using TWRP - no errors.
Rebooted.
Bootloop.
I fastboot flashed the new_boot.img again and am up and running again but without Magisk.
I have googled how to install Magisk after Ta Poc but not found anything to be confident of trying.
Do you know this issue? Can you suggest other routes to install Magisk? Any ideas?
Edit: also tried installing Magisk into the boot image through the Manager method - bootloop.
Success! but not with TA Poc. I used RootKernel, installed Magisk via TWRP. Booted good. Magisk Manager shows Magisk is up. The shows goes on...

I just saw your posts, I'm sorry my info caused problems for you!
I searched the TA PoC thread to see if I could find anything relevant, and it seems other users have had problems with Magisk after using TA PoC. The solution, as you found, is actually to use RootKernel! This modified version of RK includes an option for TA PoC (instead of the DRM fix), so it's probably the best option for our phone.
Sorry for the inconvenience; I will also edit my post.
Thank you for your guidance. Good to have you around to help.
Never be sorry. I know the risks and unforeseen issues that happen.
Flashtooled ROM again for a clean start, and flashed the modified RK boot.img, flashed TWRP, magisk. Your revised instructions has worked good for me.
Thank you!
