This is just a simpler, more detailed guide on how to root this phone.
Forgive me for the lack of pictures, its pretty straightforward anyways. I have included a .rar with this post that has all the essential files you will need.
(I only compressed the .rar, everything else credit goes to the creators)
1. Download the rootpackage.rar i have included, and decompress to somewhere safe.
2. Install SugarQct and install the drivers that came with it. (In the SugarQct installer, not the usb driver folder)
3. After that has finished, open the usb driver folder and run the setup.vbs script there. It should only take a second or two to run.
4. Plug phone into pc.
5. Place supersu.zip onto phone. You can put this anywhere, doesn't really matter.
6. Turn phone off and place into download mode. (Phone must be plugged in to allow download mode)
4. Open sugar with phone plugged in. Be sure to upgrade sugar if you can't see the 6055u in the list.
Set to 6055u, go to options, select save user data. Now press upgrade.
5. While sugar is downloading overwrite the r*****.mbn in bin/6055-*****. This folder appears once you start to download to the phone. You must rename the twrp_recovery_idol4_6055.img to the name of the r*****.mbn.
6. Overwrite again while files are being written. Do this as many times as you please. I only overwrote it more than once as a safety precaution.
7. Before sugar has completed fully, but after files are written, this should be around the time when it starts to download more files. As long as the writing completes you are good to go.
8. Turn phone on and enter recovery mode (power + volume up).
9. In the custom recover menu tap install and install the supersu.zip from the directory you placed it in.
10. Give it a couple of seconds (mine took 30 or so)
11. Allow phone to be rebooted and its now rooted!
Now I've had some interest in using magisk instead of supersu, but i haven't been able to install it after supersu. Choose your rom to flash wisely, as its a pain in the ass to go back from.
Please enjoy your newly rooted Alcatel Idol 4!
Thanks all!
P.S. If someone can dump their standard rom before they flash supersu.zip onto their phone, i'd like to try and find a way to get a custom rom goin and that would help.
I'm not seeing the download for the .RAR file. Am I missing something?

I thought i attached it to the thread, give me a second and i'll try again.
Edit:
It seems my rar is too large, i'm headed to work now, but i'll try and get something uploaded in a bit.
Thank you. Much appreciated. Also, can I unplug the phone before rebooting to recovery,or does it have to be plugged in!

As far as i know it doesn't have to be, but when i was successful i believe i had the phone plugged in. I did try to do somethings earlier today and unplugged the phone, and it was not successful. I do not know if it was because i unplugged the phone or if it was because i had failed to rewrite the recovery flash.
Thank you. I actually didn't want to wait for .rar so I just pieced the files from the forum here. Thank you anyway,at least somebody else will get the RAR. Also,my phone was plugged in when it worked.
I got magisk working for me I unistalled super super went into twrp and installed magisk ( I needed magisk to play fire emblem heroes lol) I'm not sure if I did something else but that's what I remember doing
Is this guide working for all the idol 4 variants or just for the cricket one? I've got the 6055k and I'm wondering if this guide works for my phone too.

Theres another guide for the 6055k, i'm not sure if this will work for that one. I know it works for the cricket version and i see no reason why it wouldn't work for the 6055k, but it is a better idea to follow the guide made for the 6055k.

Would you mind checking if snapchat works on magisk? I know it doesn't work on supersu, and i've unrooted my phone because i was having troubles getting it installed after supersu.

Thanks for the info, but funnily enough i'm having difficulties getting the damn thing rooted again.
Thanks for the write up, I've flashed and reflashed many times... you have to be carefully about when you interrupt the process. Also know that a newer version is out. Cheers mate.
I'm not sure if it's the latest version of Sugar, but I've been trying so many times, but to no avail. Has anyone had any luck on the new version?
SUGAR QCT_SP V11.3.0
I've gotten to the point that when I start the upgrade with Sugar, it says my phone is already rooted. However, when I try to access Recovery, there is no option to install TWRP. It looks like it just loaded the same old recovery...no matter how fast and how many times I replace the Rxxxxxx.mbn file.
Cheers,
Wickster

Having the same problems as PizzaG - tried all the timing tips no TWRP
Having the same situation as PizzaG - same Cricket version, using the newer version of Sugar QCT 11.1.3. I've tried starting right after it reaches the last written file (4095M), Ive even tried waiting until you get the vibrate and Alcatel logo (which happens at the very end of the download, but was someone's tip), same story, boots into Android recovery. Any other tips?
Possible Solution to Rooting Troubles
I was having the same troubles as the above posters. What seemed to be the problem was that I had set a pin code to unlock my device, which made it encrypted. Unfortunately, the only way to remove a pin is to do a factory reset. Anyway, I did a factory reset and ran sugar immediately after - making sure to start the phone before sugar finished - and it worked! Perhaps there is something simpler to do and I didn't have to do a factory reset, but I don't know what that is, and this worked.
Someone have try with the 6055A?
hmm, im noticing mine says encrypted as well but i never set anything for security. just the swipe. @ ThisEndsInTears did you do a factory reset from stock recovery or from withing the phone settings? Thanks much, hopefully one step closer to getting this rooted. Y has nobody developed cm for 6.0.1 for this? cm13 im pretty sure it is

if your have issues with the update not finishing 100% this will work
http://www.4shared.com/file/3skyGV3V/Verizon-GTab-Stock.html
download the zip using heimdall flash like normal
factoryfs-factoryfs.rfs
zimage-zimage
param.lfs-param.lfs
cache-cache.rfs
recovery-zimage
ignore the rest of the files
then before first boot wipe data and cache reboot
manually use update.zip or just let it download itself
install update and your done
you can verify by going to "about device" build number will be SCH-I800.EC02
use superoneclick for root z4mod not working keep getting f/c's
it seems like anybody who used z4mod to root or flashed recovery "back to stock" is having problems a 100% fix is just download the files from my post and flash like normal then use superoneclick for root
***for it to work you must download the recovery files from my post***
the files in my post are created using a temp. root so the files are a pure clone of unrooted rom 100% stock that is why you have to use superoneclick to root I tried everything and have done this to 6 tabs with no errors
EC02 stock ota update.zip download
http://www.4shared.com/file/qIHEta11/update.html
Thanks, I noticed you posted this on the other thread too. I have never used Heimdall so I was REALLY trying to avoid this but I guess I will have to take the plunge and figure it out.......
this works
I have tried every which way and this way has worked every time for me
Finally worked
works 100% just followed the steps and no problems finally updated!!!!!
It works, 100% Thank you so much for this
This does work, 100%, but please note that it DOES NOT WIPE THE DEVICE. It will boot up with all your stuff. This is not neccessarily practical, but it will probably be fine. If you have any root dependent mods, such as set cpu or lcd density, they wont work and it may operate funny/slow until you reroot and set them back up.
stock restore files download

or
http://www.4shared.com/file/3skyGV3V/Verizon-GTab-Stock.html
Download Mode (Volume down and power)
Download Heimdall from Here:
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Also just below version 1.1.0 is Microsoft C++ This also needs installed on your machine because it has .dll files Heimdall uses.
Launch download mode on your tab that is already connected to your PC.
unzip heimdall and go into the drivers folder where you will see zadig.exe. Run this.
At the top you see options. Click "list all devices"
Then in the dropdown select Android USB composite device or might say it other ways
Click start and let heimdall download the drivers. Once its finished, close zadig and launch heimdall front end leaving Tab plugged in and in download mode
Unzip the stock files.
the zImage goes in both the Kernel AND Recovery slot.
The factoryfs.rfs goes in Factoryfs
The Param.lfs goes in Param.lfs make sure you use param.ifs not param.rfs
and the cache.rfs goes in the cache slot.
ignore the rest of the files in the zip and just use these
After you have the files in place click start to flash. ALWAYS make sure your battery is sufficiently charged or you will have MAJOR problems.
After this runs you will more then likely have to Power down, wait a few seconds and hold power and up volume to boot into recovery. (NOTE, do not hold power too long, just long enough to turn it on, then continue holding up volume till you see recovery. WIPE DATA AND CACHE. Tab should boot.
then let update download install it and you can use superoneclick if you want root back
This worked!
Thank you lexriley! That seemed to work. I forgot to wipe data/cache before i applied the update.zip, it still worked anyway. I should probably have wiped the data/cache.
Thank you !!!!!! Great Work!
Thanks so much. I rooted using Z4 and the update failed. I used your instructions and got up and running again! You saved my Tab!
I'm happy its working for everyone like it worked for me
100% fully working!!!!!!!
thank you lexriley your guide is easy to follow and do your the man!!!!!!
This should be a sticky!!!!

Anyway to turn off the nagging update notification?. I have my tab where I want it, while your walk through is detailed and obviously a good solution, seems like an awful alot of time just for a minimal upgrade in software?.

Well let me tell you what I have noitced with the upgrade
1) Stock browser speed is faster, but I dont use the stock so that wasnt much help
2)There is now a item in the top of settings for you to activate your device through verizon (like you would using *228 or whatever it is from your phone)
3)The wifi searching thing. I often forget to turn wifi off so when I drive it drains battery searching, the drain is significantly less now.
4) BLUETOOTH HID SUPPORT! Sorry for the caps but I have been wanting this one for quite some time now. First thing I did was try my MX5500 at home and it paired up and worked perfectly.
5)Hyperlinks in emails issue. Constantly many hyperlinks were cut off and I wasnt able to click them, this has now been resolved.
If none of these things are appealing to you then by all means you have no need to upgrade. But I found that most of this was a welcomed change. The tab seems faster, but I believe that is just due to the fact that I do not have LCD density changing the density, which I find slows down many things on the tab.

At first it didn't work for me. I got "failed to access device. Error: -12". But that was my fault. I had forgotten to load the zagdig drivers for Heimdall. So I did that following the instructions in this thread and tried again. First try, I simply got a "fail", second try worked like a charm. When finished the Tab rebooted on its own.
As soon as it rebooted, I got the message that an update was waiting to be installed (EC02). Since I had already wiped the cashe (twice) on earlier attempts, I just went ahead and let the update install. Worked like a charm and now I've got EC02 update.
As a help to other noobs, I will add this.... The reason the update would not install in the first place is that I had deleted the VZW Vcast bloatware. Lexriley's fix here reinstalled all that VZW junk, which is what ultimately solved the problem. LESSON LEARNED: If you want future updates NEVER delete pre-installed apps. Either rename them and back them up to the SD, or better yet, "freeze" them with Titanium Backup.
Now to begin the task of re-rooting, installing ADW, and putting my Tab back into shape the way I had it.
BIG THANKS goes out to lexriley!! (And by all means, make this thread a sticky.)
Robin
Excellent work! This worked perfectly.
Got it, installed the newest Keis for drivers.
i hate to be that guy but is it possible to get odin files too? i can never get heimdall to work but odin works just fine

So if I just restore the vcast stuff then I should be able to update without doing all the recovery stuff? I just renamed them all with a .bak at the end instead of deleting just incase I needed them again so I still have them all.
Edit: apparently yes, removed the .bak I added to the files names, un-rooted, clicked update and it worked fine

You're welcome. ...Isn't it great when you answer your own questions? I find myself doing that more frequently now, as I learn more about Android and my Tab - mostly from this forum.
PS... Now that you've successfully updated, take a look at the recovery.log file in your /cashe/log folder. I was amazed at the number and the variety of files this upgrade patched.
This Has been confirmed to work on VzTab May not work when lolipop comes. So i found this on accident and tryed these two methods together to get the end desired result. Root Access! The first thing to adress is if your using windows 7 or 8 its a bitc# to get adb to recognize that your devices is connected. So if this becomes a problem i can find the link i used to address it. So you will download all the required files that go along with this 1st method contained here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
Along with the lg drivers youll need the tablet to install the verizon software upgrade assistant too.
Fallow all of the processes until you reach the download mode. I could not figure out how to manually push buttons to make it into download mode so use this next link and run all the procedures till its in download mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
Now you have the desired screen fallow the rest of the instructions from the first tut. Then press and hold power and volume buttons to reset. Since you cant take battery out or command it to reset. The Downloader will indicate 0% still so dont think it failed if it doesnt say 100%.
and too root the lollipop update download the files off rootjunkys site awesome work lol yes it was originally for the note 4 but shush it works
install kingroot (yes its in chinese dont worry we will be installing supersu very soon)
make sure adb is working and usb debugging is enabled which if you are on here i safely assume you are
extract the supersume zip (1 or 2 i couldnt see a diff)
and run the superme bat file (it will walk you through it )
itll soft reboot when done and you are solid and it will hold root
yes the bat will say disableing knox again it was for the note 4 but works fine ive done this
link to get files : http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=Gala...=Kitkat Root
I don't have this tablet but replacing kinguser with supersu should be doable on this tablet as well (I did it on my forge tv)
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html
all you do is install terminal emulator and copy files and run the command.
So now i cant upgrade to lolipop im guessing due to the fact it knows its modified now it will give error at 1% anyone have the factory image and how would i go about recoving it to stock image would i need cwm recovery to accomplish this? I really just want to upgrade so maybe the bluetooth stack has been fixed so i can use my wii mote to play games.

Thanks for the timely post of this.
Don't know if it's something on my end but the link gives 'access denied', fortunately you had said it was for a note4 so I just looked for that and came up with the right files, just thought you might want to know.
One minor hiccup, and I'm not sure where to post it, so I'll post it here: SuperSu took 5 tries, finally got success, but now it keeps wanting to update the su binary again, it's definitely rooted, and the binary's already updated so...[shrugs]. The app said if there were any problems with it to post it to xda, soooo, here it is, sorry if this is the wrong place to put it.
Other than that tho, it worked great, thanks again!

not that i know of the device is still pretty new
I found this method incredibly easy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
I just had to put it on PTP instead of MTP. And after the reboot, I had to manually boot it on download mode (following the software's directions).
It's working flawlessly.
Tracfone version
I'm having no luck with Kingroot. It says no root available for device.
According to 'one-click-root' website, the device has no way of rooting it.
Is there any updated information?
.
device specifics:
model: SM-S920LZAATFN
android: 5.0.2
build: LRX22G.S920LUDU1APK2
hardware version: S920L.03
.
[edit: was hoping to change the title to reflect that this post is about the tracfone version]
TWRP recovery method?
TWRP recovery method?
I've read that a phone may possibly be able to be rooted by using odin to download a TWRP recovery, then booting into that new recovery using hardware keys, instead of rebooting normally. And this results in a rooted phone?
I think I have seen a TWRP that may work with this phone. Any help is appreciated. I'd like to be able to update this thread to include a step by step approach to this and other versions of the same model 920.
I'll continue to post updates as I discover more information.
DIY time : crash course in brain surgery
Ok, so I've read a bit of stuff in the forums on the SM-S920L, mostly about the StraightTalk variant, which apparently uses the same system rom, though I'm not so sure.
At any rate, rather than just throw carp at the phone and hope it sticks, I'm going to teach myself how to do it all myself, a-z, 1,2,3... etc., starting with making stock images of the various components, for recovery purposes. Perhaps the phone can be used as a TracFone again someday, though I have no desire to do so, having already bought another for cheaper that even works better, though not as fancy, just newer.
So, I'll leave it here for now and just update the primary with new information as I discover it, starting with the extraction of the stock images, hopefully without goofing up the phone, lol.
This is an unpopular phone, at least for hackers. But it will be a good tool for expanding my knowledge.
Any help appreciated, such as, 'Is this even necessary? There are files here here and here that will do it all'.
(lol, nope... so far I've discovered there is no root option, kingroot no work, etc. There seems to be no posts with information specifically regarding the TracFone 'variant' of this model. It suggests that i can use the StraightTalk files for it, which may work, but there are many questionable unanswered problems.)

Ya I got the straight talk, I have been using king root but I totally bricked and wiped my phone on purpose because I wanted to start fresh and let it update. Having a problem though I used twrp and nuked all my ****, or so I thought. I'm trying to OTA update I'm currently on 5.0.2 and it's saying I have a system update and even after I checked everything to be deleted it still says error and one of my files is modified or some**** like that. I think it's like admin.prop so **** it. I do however want to go systemless root. What do you suggest is the best root and rom for our device?
To answer op question yes your phone is the same as ours. Mine even shows tracphone on boot.

Well for our phone there is only one custom ROM and it's LineageOS 13.0 https://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-prime/development/unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-0-galaxy-t3491494 It's android 6.0 and it can be rooted too. It's not being updated anymore for our device as far as I know. There is Lineage 14.* but not for our variant.
For systemless root you'll want to go with Magisk. https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 I had Lineage, and don't get me wrong it's worth checking out, but I downgraded back to stock and went with Magisk. You can even get Xposed throughMagisk.
If I was you, I would flash back to stock. You can go to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 and download the first two, Stock Boot and Stock Recovery. Make sure to unzip them because you need the md5 files they extract. I'd wipe everything again and then get into download mode. On your PC fire up Odin, I'm using version 3.10 http://odindownload.com/download/clean/Odin_3.10.0.zip Click BL use the stick boot md5 and then under ap use the stock recovery md5. When it reboots and you set it up do not turn reactivation lock on.
If you don't already have Magisk on your sd card get it on there and install through twrp. It will ask if you want to root. Might make a back up after. I always make backups and then transfer from sd to my pc. I can restore to like 6 different versions of my phone right now lol I'm no expert, I haven't been messing around with all this for long so I hope that all makes sense. :fingers-crossed:

Haha ya it does I just wish they didn't treat our phone like it has Ebola or some****. All kinds of **** for the other ones. I agree on the magisk because I really want to try that out. Alright thanks for all the helpful links I come to this site to find **** for ours and I end up looking at a bunch of cool stuff I can't have.
I'm waiting on the pixel 2 XL before I upgrade. We just missing out on too much stuff. I think magisk will keep me busy in the meantime though. Thanks again man I'm Soo add once I get here on all the stuff then I wonder well will this work or this work and by then just like awwww **** it.

Hey, I thought I'd let you know LineageOS 14.1 is available to us now. I can't find a specific thread on it, but you can download it from http://grandprime.ddns.net/jenkins/job/LOS_Builds/# Flash it with twrp. You will want to flash that and then flash open gapps [ARM - 7.1] and then whichever from here http://opengapps.org/ I did all that first, set it up rebooted and then installed Magisk.
It has Substratum pre-installed and it let's you theme it nicely. There is only an unofficial xposed version so far.
Anywho, thought I'd throw that out there.
thanks for the replies, gives me inspiration to keep on trying; the phone is pretty ho-hum with default stuff and the general blah blah of social media, etc.;
thanks for the tips, feel free to post more details as they come in
My Turn
I'm about to try and put 14.1 and Magisk on mine. Wish me luck!
downloading twrp recovery and rooting
in google search up twrp click on the first link then click on devices on the top right corner then search up your phone download the twrp.img.tar file
power off your phone and press volume down + home button + power button to boot into download mode
in odin select AP then select the twrp.img.tar you downloaded then press start
your phone will reboot then download the SuperSU zip file
then go to settings then go to find my mobile you have to get a samsung account then you will see reactivation lock option turn that off
then power off your phone then press volume up + home button + power button to reboot into twrp recovery
once booted tap the install option then select where you downloaded the supersu zip file swipe to flash it once done flashing you will see the reboot system option to reboot your phone
then your phone should be rooted!
Ok guys, new here and I've done a bit of reading on this already. From what I gather, the S7 Edge is difficult if not impossible to unlock without a factory reset. Here's the issue.
This phone belongs to my friend's husband who was severely injured in an accident at work. He's in a coma and probably won't survive. He was severely burned over 90% of his body with chemicals and he has no fingerprints to unlock the fingerprint scanner. In addition, his wife doesn't know his password, so I figured I'd see if I could do anything for her. I tried the Dr. Fone program, but it's apparently incompatible with the S7 Edge. He keeps getting texts and messages and we can't check them. The phone is also set for a daily alarm at 1:30 AM, and apparently you can't power it down without the lock code either. Ideally, I'd like to either gain access for her or at least extract what data we can from the thing before factory resetting it. It would also be nice to power it down so that it doesn't keep putting out an alarm every night in the middle of the night. All his contacts with his family are inconveniently stored in the phone as well. It's kind of a worst case scenario.
Any assistance or recommendations for a course of action for this situation would be fantastic. I don't have any other information on the device itself other than that it's running on Freedom Mobile's network in Ontario, Canada. They've said they can factory reset it for her, but we were trying to avoid that and get any contacts or messages from his phone if possible.
Thanks in advance for any help! I know it's a long shot!
Edit: I managed to power down the phone with the Power Button/Volume Down trick after about 9 tries, so at least the alarm won't go off. Other than that, no luck.
Unique situation? More like fked up situation.
Anyways I am assuming its a completely stock phone with USB debugging turned off. Hope its not carrier locked, if yes then here are the steps:
1. Flash Custom Recovery on the Phone using Odin
2. Use aroma file manager from the Recovery, you need to download it separately, put it on its SD card.
3. Now using aroma file manager navigate to Data Folder and then; System Folder and find “gesture.key” or “password.key” for pattern lock or password lock respectively.
4. Delete those any password related file and reboot. It should be unlocked now.
Thanks VERY much, UnNaMeD__!!!
I'm looking at Odin and the Recovery firmware right now. Is there a recommended version? I see TWRP and CWM, but primarily TWRP mentioned, and it looks like the .tar files are easy to find. I'm pretty new to this type of mod and I don't want to brick the phone, I know it's a risk. I'm looking at faqs on theandroidsoul and the cyanogenmods forum which seem quite thorough. Apparently I can't post the links as I'm a new user here....seems fair I suppose, especially considering the forum content.
My friend's husband didn't have a microSD card in (just checked), but I can toss a spare one of mine in for Aroma, which I found. I probably need for format it for FAT32, not NTFS though? Is there any way to tell if it's carrier locked? It's from a small phone company, not one of the bigger guys. I'm going to wait until I hear back to get started on this, as I'm decent with Windows based systems, but unfamiliar with the nuances of modding Android. I use a stock Sony XZ Premium myself.
Again, thanks very much! I've got some hope we can get in touch with his family now!

Use odin 3.13 the latest
Then download twrp recovery 3.2.2.0 tar file for hero2lte the latest.
Boot your phone into odin mode by restarting your phone while holding power home button and vol down. When your reach the confirmation screen press OK.
Open odin and put the tar file in the ap slot and click the ap box and hit start to begin flashing.
Now restart ur phone by holding power home and vol down then immediately hold power home vol up to reach custom recovery.
Edit I just tested this myself
Flash the zip file from this thread no need to go looking for files in system.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780696
Should remove password pin or pattern.
To check if it's network locked just look at the back of your phone if it says 935u or Verizon wireless or 935W8 then the phone is unlocked for different networks.

Just look at back of your phone and tell me its model, Like G935F. I will give you the correct recovery file. And recoveries have option to enable storage too so you can access data from computer. But to be honest it never worked for me. You could also give it a try before doing other steps.
You could contact on PM, or even better I could also help you over whatsapp if you wish.
And I never heard that you could brick phone by flashing recovery, maybe only if you flash incorrectly. A bad recovery will make recovery useless, but phone would still boot. Thats my experience.
I have broken password before of a Mediatek device. If you want I could try it on my own S7 Edge too to be 100% sure.
I'll send you a PM as well, but I just checked and it's a G935W8. Sorry for the delay, I work shift work and I'm pretty busy. I'm going to work on the phone on the weekend. I don't have Whatsapp currently, but I can get it. Thanks again for your kindly assistance!

Hey alright no problem.
Download TWRP for G935W8 from official TWRP website:
https://teamw.in/samsung/samsunggalaxys7edge.html
You can follow some instructions from this thread regarding flashing:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...overy-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084
Flashing TWRP might cause your phone to not boot. You will need to download dm-verity disabler from the thread above.
So download TWRP, Aroma file manager, dm-verity bypass, and zip file to disable pass that the other user posted: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780696
Download all these files and put aroma file manager, dm-verity bypass and that password zip file bypass on your SD.
Make sure auto reboot is disabled in odin, follow instruction in thread about how to install twrp. If the auto reboot is disabled, phone will just remain at the same screen, so after the flashing is done from odin. You need to force reboot on your phone (volume down + power button for few seconds), just when the screen goes off, you need to immediately press recovery button combination (vol up + home + power). Here once you enter TWRP recovery see if you can enable MTP and trasnfer data to PC, if not, goto install zip and try password bypass zip file. If it works file then ok and proceed to install dm-verity bypass file and reboot your phone. If that zip doesn't works. You need to go to same install zip file option and now install aroma file manager. From there delete the password files that I told you about earlier, flash dm-verity and reboot again.
Thats it, if get confused about a step, tell me.
Well, I attempted to install TWRP through the latest version of Odin, but it didn't work. The error message I got in Recovery/Download mode was:
"Custom Binary (RECOVERY) Blocked By FRP Lock."
I looked that up online and apparently to install TWRP, I need to remove the FRP lock. I found a program called RealTerm which can supposedly bypass the FRP lock, but it doesn't seem to be connecting to the locked phone and it's not exactly user friendly.
Am I missing something here? Or is there no way to bypass the FRP lock on the unit?
Hi. I'm just gonna say this first: I didn't know entirely what I was doing when beginning this operation. I was just trying to do something fun and new, and it didn't pan out. I fully acknowledge that I am an idiot.
Now, the story. I was attempting to root my LGV20 with this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500 .
I have read over this thread more times than countable and thought I was doing everything correctly. I got to the "STEP3.BAT" portion of the guide and long story short, my phone crashed during it and somehow got foobarred.
It *kinda* works (as in it will boot for around a minute) and then blue/black screen into a reboot.
Is there any way I can save this phone? Hard resets, going into software, more dumb computer stuff, anything. I don't *need* to get this phone working again but it would be really preferable.
Simultaneously I fully accept the responsibility in failing the operations. I know that somewhere I must have messed up. If no-one wants/ can help me, tell me so. Just means new phone time.
If any more detail on what happened is needed, tell me.
First off: that guide is ONLY for the H910 (AT&T) variant, so make sure with your model
and also, when you said a "blue or black screen" it also has very small writings too, right? If so, then you may have faced a kernel/bootloader panic
Technically your phone is *still* alive, and your best method is to start over again, assuming if you read the whole guide carefully then you have backed up your firmware and can still access download mode.
Flash your stock firmware back (or use the H915 firmware provided by the guide), wipe and setup your phone again, then root the phone again.
I also suggest replacing the TWRP recovery inside the provided Dirtysanta folder cuz that's what i did when i faced the kernel panic

Thanks so much. Freaked out over this for a good bit. Came back, did what you said and we're back at that step fully working. Life saver.
Now my first guess as to why step3 failed is that i didn't have the latest version of TWRP. How can I set that up?
Inside the root package folder you can see an .img file named twrp 3.0.2-1- us996.img
What i did was downloaded a later version
(not latest cuz my phone won't boot at the latest version for some reason), copied the name of the original twrp and renamed it, paste it to the folder, overwrite the old one, and try to root it again

Alright, i've done that now too. Thanks. Is there anything else i should/need to keep in mind to ensure failure is not going to happen? I want to make 100% sure I get everything right this time.

No i don't think there is more things to do, the guide you're following is pretty much straightforward already.
100% guarantee is always a stretch here in XDA. But if you're still facing problems you can ask for help on that guide's thread.

I really want to give up on this. This time I successfully made it through all Step 3, but I also noticed that my screen was kind of glitched and not rendering properly at that stage. After it rebooted, I unplugged my micro usb cable and it gave me an angry green warning message I will attach here.
If you/someone can tell me what to do with this message from here or instruct me on how to flash stock H910 10 q back onto the phone without doing TWRP (since i'm evidently incapable of installing it) I would be most appreciative.
Slightly better picture without anything cut off.

The screen glitching is normal, the green text after boot however is somehow not.
Sad to hear that it still didn't work, there something seems to be interrupting the process of rooting your phone. I dunno if it has something to do with ARB (anti rollback) preventing you to root
If you want to go back to your stock firmware that you backed up, you can:
-Carefully flash each file of your backed up firmware through adb and fastboot mode
-build a zip file of your firmware and flash through TWRP (since it didn't succeed tho)

Unfortunately i can't find any guides when it comes to flashing the back up.
I did read something back then on turning it into a zip file, but even if you can build one you still need TWRP, in which case you haven't successfully installed, so that's no option
Flashing the backup files requires specific commands, especially to the part on what partition should it be flashed to
When LGUP backs up your phone's firmware, you can see a vast number of files(i can't remember how were they named, I'll look up a reddit post about it)
The files where named based on what partition it came fom (H910_modemxx_COM12, H910_system_COM12 or something like that)
These are image files, what i did as far as i can remember was rename these files by adding an IMG extension for ADB to recognize
Flash them according to it's partition name:
"Fastboot flash system H910_system_COM12.img"
"Fastboot flash recovery H910_recovery_COM12.img'
Etc.
To go to fastboot, turn off your phone and hold the volume down button , then plug your phone to the PC.
But i really cannot guarantee this, because for all i know, in order to flash this you need fastboot, and to get fastboot you need to root your phone, because only the engineering bootloader has it (i'm sorry if it's wrong tho), and flashing these files to fastboot might be a bit dangerous because it will not verify the files, there may be chances that you might flash a corrupted file. so flashing via LGUP is the safest option so far if you don't know what you're doing
