Hi XDA,
OP5 has recently started having this issue. Was wondering if any of you have had or fixed it.
When plugging in my USB cord, the phone behaves as if it is being rapidly plugged in and out, like 2-4x per second. As a result, I cannot get to the phone via adb or fastboot. The phone also seems to have the issue regardless of kernel installed. However, I have not tried with an older OOS version.
Any ideas?
That seems more like a hardware issue.

This is what I am thinking. Its weird b.c it can be sporadic.
Trying to get an advance replacement from OP b.c I cant go w.o a phone for weeks while this one is diagnosed/repaired. Anyone have luck getting an adv replacement from them?
Does your phone charge normally or do you see odd behavior there as well?
^^ it jumps on/off charge rapidly... complete w vibrating.
I managed to use a toothpick to scrape the top/bottom of the usb port contacts... seems to have improved, however, I am wary since sometimes it stops happening for a few hours/days.
The phone actually does charge, the biggest issue is annoyance of the constant vibrating/screen light up & the complete lack of ability to adb or transfer files via usb when it happens.

You might want to try cleaning the port using a can of condensed air--but you need to be careful to use very short bursts at an angle, not straight in and also not to spray any condensation into the port. It sounds like your port is either dirty or loose. I've never heard of an Android USB port getting dirty enough to affect functioning when the phone is so new but if the toothpick helped maybe that's the problem. I am wary of the USB port on this phone. It doesn't feel very solid to me compared to previous phoned I've owned. The headphone port isn't good either. It takes very little movement for a headphone plug to pop out.

Condensed air is a good idea.
Yes I am worried the solder has started coming loose on the port. Although, if that were the case, pressure would presumably cause the issue to go away, which it does not.
I am hoping it might have been a tiny piece of metal or something that got in there and was causing issues. So far so good this morning when plugging the phone in. Still working the replacement route with OP, but at least it seems to be holding for now.
Ill try to keep this thread updated with results.
Report Back.
The direction I insert my USB C cable seems to have issues with one direction vs the other.... seems to make me think something is screwed up with teh contatcs within the phone.

That's possible but I think trying to clean the port with condensed air is still worth a try. I don't like the way the USB connection feels when a cord is inserted or removed from the OP5 so it wouldn't surprise me if a contact did go wonky. Keep us updated. This is a problem other owners may eventually encounter as well.

Yep, tried after that post with condensed air too... gave it a spray 3x for about 1-2 secs each time. Still only working one direction with the USB-C.
I am confident its a hardware issue at this point. Im waiting to hear back from OnePlus on approval for an advance replacement. Phone is not even 2 months old

That sucks. Are there any authorized service centers for OnePlus phones or is the only option sending the phone in? I tried to find out before buying the OP5 but nobody seemed to know.

Dude, dont buy a OP... only option is to send it in. Being told they denied my request for an advance replacement. Its a 1.5mo old phone. & I have to be without it for weeks while you (oneplus) fix. Um, no.

I have one with them. Problem is, they are asking me to go without a phone for over 2 weeks. I am in sales and make my living on having my phone with me at all times.

Won't they send you a loaned phone? What country are you from? In the UK you'd have rights against this.

Anyway. Hope this thread is helpful to prospective buyers. Shame, because this phone is pretty sweet otherwise.

I have a backup phone so that wouldn't be a disaster for me but I can understand how it could be a huge inconvenience for many people. It's too bad they don't contract out with one of the phone repair chains. That would make things much easier for owners.

Ok, i've given up.
My HD2 is driving me nuts, i've been taking it for granted for a long time, but i've decided to send my HD2 for repairs.
Maybe some users can identify themselfs in my symptoms and perhaps go for a repair as well. I'll try to keep you guys up to date on this situation.
Status:
18/10 - Received my repair ticket. Scheduled pickup tomorrow between 08:00 and 10:00 GMT +1.
19/10 - Phone got picked up by courier service, 8.30AM in the morning.
20/10 till 25/10 - No change in status and/or picked up!
26/10 - Decided to call after a prolonged status update. Summary of conversation: "Yes, everything is fine. No the status hasn't been changed, but you should receive your phone back in about a total of 2 weeks, so somewhere next week i guess."
27-10 till 2/11 -- No change in status and message.
3-11 - Received a package back with my repaired phone! Results: Boardswap, phone shutdown while diagnosing at the repair center. They even replaced my camera lens!
Total repair time due: 15 days
The following below describes the problems that occur (allot!), perhaps you can identify yourself in this as well.
Issie:
- Phone restarts (randomly) and holds at the HTC boot logo when back(bottom)cover feels warm-to-hot.
- Phone reboots when back(bottom)cover is warm, but not hot enough to hang at HTC boot logo, but soon after booting to Windows mobile, the device may reboot again.
Happens when:
- Browsing Internet (3G/HSDPA)
- Listening to Music (through SD card)
- Playing a game
- Having a (long) phone call the device
(temporarily) fix for issue:
1. Do a ‘Battery-Pull’ (extracting the battery) which shuts down the device.
2. Let it cool down for a couple of minutes until the back(bottom)part doesn’t feel warm enough anymore.
3. Re-insert battery, and restart phone.
4. If cooled down enough, the phone will restart correctly when powering up the device, until issue happens again, where step 1 needs to be done again.
The above mentioned issue don’t happen when the devise isn’t put under ‘load’ (I.e: use applications/browse(the web)/music etc). Putting the phone in sleep/standby or just sending a text message will not reboot the phone.
Tried the following official fixes:
- Hard Resetting the device > Issue remains.
- Updating to a new (official) ROM (RUU_Leo_HTC_NLD_1.48.404.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe )
> Issue remains, even after a Hard reset with above noted ROM.
- Formatting and/or removing the SD card from the Device > Issue remains.
Tried the XDA fixes:
- Different Radios: Any radio in the official HD2 Radio topic
- Many different Roms
- Formatted the SD card, tried a different one, and even None.
Concluding:
Seeing to have tried all options relating to a software issue, I think this might be a hardware issue.
Contact with HTC:
Having sent some messages over with HTC they sent me this last message:

I have the exact same problem and tomorrow it is going to the repair center. Unfortunately I have a crack in the digitizer, I hope they don't use it as pretext to charge me extra!

My screen is still in mint condition, only thing that cracked if my camera-glass due to a bump against my table at home.. But more then that it's nothing.
I've noticed more people having the problem, so i thought maybe more people have my issues as well and could go for a repair after seeing this topic.

They will blame your problem on humidity in the device after the camera glass cracked. Did you change the camera-glass? I suggest you do that before you send it for repair otherwise you have to pay for the repairs as it does not fall under warranty (check on ebay for camera glass lens).
I think we're both in the same pickle:/
I am crossing my fingers they won't charge me.

I haven't. And a device breaking down from the camera end is highly unlikely.
It's impossible for me to replace it now as it's being picked up tomorrow morning. If they have to repair it, so be it. As long as it's not a outrageous high price..
You got experience in this, them blaming me in case of humidity, or you just guessing?

After speaking with their customer rep they pointed out to me that it is possible that the device malfunctions because of cracks leading to humidity and temperature problems. And that is not under warranty.
If your camera lens is cracked, it is easy for them to blame it on humidity due to the crack. This is a possible scenario, I can't predict but if we learned anything from repair under warranty, companies will to blame it on the customer before they fix it under warranty.
My advice to you is to cancel the pick up and reschedule another one later, go to ebay and buy a second hand glass lens and glue it yourself. It cost you less than 5$ to do that. Better than relying on their repair and end up paying hundreds of dollars. This way you eliminate the excuse of them blaming the defect on you.

Sounds plausible, but that wouldn't make sense in the way the device is manufactured. The CPU/GPU/Radio base i at the bottom. Any malfunctioning due to possible humidity in the camera would only lead to a malfunctioning camera, and that's not the case at this time.
Given, if i had more time i might have placed it, but i'm not in the occasion to do that right now.
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed, im more afraid they'll go at you for a broken digitizer..

Double check this. Pull your battery and make sure that none of the pins are bent and touching each other. This has caused some issues, but not exactly the one you're describing but it can't hurt to check. If they are bent, straighten them out and see if the issue is resolved.

Thanks, but to no avail.
Those 3 pins were straight and sitting nice and snuggly against each other.
i also have a battery problem battery seems to be dying. under 30% phone becomes unstable. also sometimes doenst want to load or boot.
last 2 must be a connector problem (indeed it must be. put battery in without taking care to put contact points in the 3 little squares then the battery doesnt work)
ive mailed custumer service, it must be part of the warranty so i want a new battery

My problem has nothing to do with the battery at all.. don't hijack this topic for something un-related..
Day 2:
Phone is still enroute to HTC Service Center according to the Servicetracker..
how long does it take to deliver a phone i wonder..
My experience with HTC customer services
In the case of my HD2 (same symptoms):
Went back to Standard ROM/Radio/Bootloader Friday 17/09/10
Confirmed problem still existed on standard software 17/09/10
Called HTC customer services 18/09/10
Collection booked for Monday 20/09/10
Confirmation email received that phone had been received 21/09/10
Status changed from "Received your phone" to "Repairing your phone" 03/10/10
Status changed to "Awaiting despatch" (or something similar) 03/10/10
Received email confirmation phone was being shipped back to me 04/10/10
Received phone back with new IMEI (presume new motherboard) 05/10/10
All in all, I was without the phone for 2 weeks but I have no complaints about the service at all. A message telling me what they'd done to fix the problem would've been nice, but it's fixed and working perfectly so I'll forgive them for that.
After a week without my HD2, my spare phone was really annoying me due to it's lack of capability (HTC StrTrk) so I bought an Orange San Francisco, used it until my HD2 came back then sold it to someone I work with for what I paid for it.
Yeah, the fun thing is, is that the service center is almost figuratively around the corner, still they said it could take up to 2 weeks though.
I'm gonna get a Nokia 5800 as a lend-phone from a friend of mine.
I was looking into getting the Desire HD possibly this friday, but that's just too much as next to having the HD2, haha!
maseo im not trying to hijack anything!
maybe your sister if she looks nice.. so pls dont use that tone!
seems to be a battery issue with your phone so it seems with mine... it could also be a connector/motherboard problem so my post was on topic.
i submitted a problem to tech support and got a ticket they want me to call cust service to check my phone, i dont want to lose it for at least 2 weeks.
i want to get a new battery! so ill try to get that.

Don't want to keep bumping it without no-reason, im just replying that's all ;-)
If it were a battery problem it would show other symptoms, ditto for the connector. Im more confident it's more hardware related, but to be precise what, i don't know.
A new battery is quite inexpensive, why don't you just get one? Saves you the hassle of getting (or trying to get) a new one through HTC.
Day 3 that my phone is underway, takes ages for a small trip by courier apparently ?

26/10: Decided to call after a prolonged status update. Summary of conversation: "Yes, everything is fine. No the status hasn't been changed, but you should receive your phone back in about a total of 2 weeks, so somewhere next week i guess."
mine has done this a couple of times now since i bought it new in december. it always seems to be when it gets a bit "too" empty it doesn't like turning on anymore even though I have it charging etc. always i've been able to recover from it by doing some mixture of charging/powering on etc.
last night i came to my 101 and it seemed to have suffered the same fate.... so did the usual tricks but it isnt waking. the light is coming on and turns off after holding it down for 7 secs but i see nothing on the screen. last time i checked it a couple of days ago it had about 60% battery left. Is there any way of determining if it is truly dead or if the screen is dead (plugged into usb but not getting any of the usual beep bop noises, but i think from memory you had to select to use it as storage device within android which i obviously cant do)
So now i'm crapping myself since I am totally at a loss as to what i can do. its never been opened etc but I installed the dev rom. I cant honestly think that Archos could possibly put ANY hardware issue down to the fact you had a dev rom installed (bought from currys, uk if it makes any difference... no doubt they have no stock to replace so most likely will say that they will have to return to archos)
Any advice much appreciated
thanks
To reset the Tablet you have to press way longer then 7 Seconds.
It states 10 but sometimes it needs 20.
After that you have to wait 10 seconds and then shortpress the powerbutton.
7/10/20 secs all do the same and the light turns off after about 7 seconds. no matter how long i leave it whether its plugged in or not nothing happens other than the light coming back on
currys have just told me that they have to inform users to deal directly with archos
just called them and they've given me an RMA number. still scared about the whole warranty/dev rom thing though (didnt have the nerve to mention it)

Well, they are pretty clear that if you install SDE or any other type of root solution you void the warranty. So you might expect a charge for the service.
what is with the good old "let the tablet warm up (20-25 degrees celsius), connect it with usb to the pc and at last connect the charger to the tablet"-trick?
or was it first charger then usb? i can't remember but i had this with my A70, too...

no joy from that too
on a more positive note, i can actually get the device seen over usb (think pc must have been playing up earlier too.. not my day today!)
detects it as a 101it and mounts both drives although windows is saying that neither are formatted (odd). cannot see anything on the display so doesnt seem to be the backlight thats died. looks like the whole screen has.
has anyone else here had any prior experience with SDE archos devices and warranty? I mean, really.. they'd be pushing it to expect people to believe that a display would die because of someone installing some unsupported software?!
unit sent off on friday.
guess noone here has had a faulty SDE/rooted unit that they needed to return to archos then. odd

People throw the "voids your warranty" thing around way toooo much. Let me be clear, modding your device CANNOT void a entire warranty. If I send my full rooted EVO in because of a faulty LCD, they HAVE to fix it or I can sue them. Theres something called the magnuson moss warranty act, which in a nut shell states that, what you did has to have caused the problem. Did rooting your device break it? Mostly likely not because it doesn't mess w/ the boot loader. If they give you crap about rooting or modding ask them if your mod directly contributed to the unit failing. If they say no but still give you crap throw the magnuson moss warranty act at them.
I see this all the time w/ cars, I used to be big on 8thcivic.com when I had my 07 Civic Si. People would bring their cars in w/ say, a modded computer or exhaust w/ a unrelated problem like transmission or something. If they gave them crap, the second they mentioned the magnuson moss act they shut up and fixed the problem. For the manufacturer its a lot cheaper to deny you then fix you. Archos seems like a friendly company, I'd feel confident sending in my rooted device w/ a bad screen.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act sounds all well and good but its an american "act" and most likely not relevant to Archos being a french company (and me being in the UK).
it may be the reason that I have heard people in the states being offered repairs (at a cost... $200 for a screen or something i think i read)
I have the same problem but it disappeared when I use UrukDroid 0.7 or2.1.08

a) dont think its the same problem as my 101 is DEAD.
2) it must be a coincidence for you then since I dont see how the battery/charging system of a device could be changed in a firmware update (had the bizarre issue with most flavours of firmware. by the time it is dead and needs resussitating it is out of the remit of firmware.
Mine is also dead, i suspect a power issue as the green LED will stay on while plugged in but will never blink to indicate complete charge and it won't turn on.... needless to say I am waiting to hear back from Archos (4 weeks now) and also waiting for the Asus Transformer to come out.

the support of archos... horror!
thats the only bad thing about archos(-devices)
but thats because there are so many forums and boards to support archos with support
The port on Kindle Fire i believe broke, won't charge and is not recognized by my computer. Amazon is sending me a replacement one and i have to send them mine but i cannot access adb or superoneroot to UNROOT it. What can i do? Battery is less than 9%.

ota unroot app
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Totally forgot I that app installed. Do you think i need to get rid of anything else? Like Market?
Why don't you just reset to factory, which should wipe it clean?
NOTE: I haven't done this whilst rooted, but pretty sure it gets you back to a pretty clean install. What's the worst that could happen?!
That would totally work i'm sure, i need %40 battery tho and i have under %5 left. I unrooted it and got rid of the apps that use root. Hopefully they don't wanna be assholes about it. They send you a replacement one and you send yours back. I can't imagine they are going to ask for theirs back if they discover mines rooted? Has anyone heard of that happening?

Yeah, figured your battery would be low by now! But if you think about it, if the USB is broken and you run it down to 0%, how are they going to know it's rooted before they send you a new one?!
No but I heard of them charging a fee if something is wrong with the one you send back and it is clearly not something they did wrong but something the user did.

If i do have to pay a fee hopefully it's not to ridiculous. I told them it wouldn't charge and that's the problem i reported so hopefully it all works out.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Amazon are pretty great when it comes to returns. They don't tend to ask too many questions, and as it's a hardware failure (or so it would seem), then I think they will look at the return information, plug it in, see it doesn't charge/power up and then send you another one. If there are no signs of visible damage, I think you'll be fine. But, what are your other options right now in any case? You're still in warranty, just take the plunge.
Stupid question time, but I'm presuming that you've tried different cables, stock charger etc.?
Ya. It was charging on the couch and fell a few feet onto the carpet cable first. Bent the charger and bit and I'm assuming damaged the port on the kindle. Tried a few different cords and got nothing.

Are they replacing it under extended warranty or just regular warranty?
just under regular warranty
Shouldn't you be buying a new one? It's not their fault you broke it is it?
a side note
unrelated but may be useful info.
i bought 2 fires at best buy and bought extended accident ins. on both. The representative told me that there was no reason to buy it for both since they "don't keep track of the serial numbers" and "only look to see you have the insurance on one"
I still got it on both just in case there is a V2.0 next year and i have to use it on both. I'm sure more dishonest people could figure out how to game the system.
Got a quick question.
My KF was not working but now it's fine, Amazon already sent me a new KF. If I send my original KF back and use the new one, will they give me a hard time about the original KF not being broke once they receive it?

Did you get the new one yet? Personally, I'd send the new one back to them, and keep your existing one. They *may* give you a hard time about it, if you sent them a working one, but it depends on their returns process, and how closely they are looking at these things.
usb loose already
I got the kindle fire on the 21st,, and yesterday the 26th it stopped charging, kinda. the USB port is loose. I used it a lot in bed watching movies and had it plugged in so I guess it was used a bit more than usual for less than a week and the charing port is broken? Has anyone else had aproblem like this? I'm just afraid this is something that will continue to happen until they stop replacing it. Also my battery takes 6 hours to charge and lasts about 2 with the wifi on and doing stuff. is this normal too? Do I just have a lemon?
Hard to quantify what you are getting compared to others without a real idea of what it is you are doing.
If you are playing games a lot, then yes, the battery will go down faster.
Mine lasts about a day, day 1/2 with normal use. I rarely play games on it though, mostly network surfing/reference etc... with WiFi forced on all the time.
I only charge it when it is getting low and don't top off.
As for the USB plug, if you don't take care, any device will have problems with the USB charging port.
I've had my Kindle Fires since they started shipping. Got it the day they started shipping.

I think you have a lemon. I would call and talk to CS about it. It should last a lot longer than 2 hours. I think it got over 5 hours in video playback tests (streaming video).
As for the OP, Amazon offers an extended warranty that includes accident protection for 50 bucks (I think, might be 40), seems like something you should add. Probably going to add it to all 4 of mine as well. 2 years of not having to worry about it.
Yea I understand all of that, but I'm just onderin if it's an issue that will come up often. I don't really have my own computer at the moment, so I've been using it for music and movies. I had the same thing happen to my cellphones but that was after years and a lot of abuse. But if this happened after only 5 days it will happen again eventually. I'm just wondering if this is an issue all the KF have or maybe i just have a lemon. the port itself was loose in the case when I got it,, but all that play is why it's not working now. I guess I'm trying to figure out if I can get one that isn't loose right off the bat or if they're all a bit loose.
The E-ink kindles are fantastic and don't have this problem at all (and I tend to do more reading when I can't screw around)
I guess i'm just hoping it's a lemon, so I can have another.

Has anyone seen anything more about these phones exploding while charging?
It looks like there may be a recall coming, a Korean new organization is reporting that Samsung has stopped shipping devices.
Thought we could use a thread to collaborate news stories and follow and recall that is coming.

quit buying cheap cables, and spend the money on a Samsung USB-C cord. problem solved.
My phone doesn't even get all that warm while charging. I used 3rd party wireless chargers, and either Samsung or good quality cables. Always use the Samsung AC bricks, or a certified Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 one. I wonder if this is either user fault or certain models. I'd blame poor quality 3rd party batteries, but we can't get access to the battery (that i know of).

I picked up a few extra cables from Samsung with the 30% off promo code they sent me.
Cost me about $9 per cable after the discount.
Other then the actual Samsung charger and cable a couple of times, we nightly charge with a Tylt Vu and once with a micro usb cable with the little adapter they included in the box. Didn't notice any excessive heating in any situation. Hopefully it stays that way.
All the reports I've read on this are pointing to the same issue that the iPhone was having, aftermarket USB-C cables
Android police says the global recall is IMMINENT

Actually Samsung has admitted that the issue is with a small percentage of the batteries. It may be a bit more than that. Looks like an actual recall is coming. We may all be getting a second run of the device. Seems Samsung is going to make an official announcement Friday or over the weekend and is working out the details with the Cell providers to make the exchange process easier. Time to make a backup and get ready for a new phone.

I thought it was just the Korean market/devices?
If it's all of them, that sucks. I don't have recovery haha.
From what I read in a few different articles it was less then 1% of sold n7 in the Korean market. Maybe they will recall globally just for safety concerns across the board?
If the recall does truly take place that blows, that means a new phone with a possible whole new set of potential issues like dead pixels and speaker issues. It especially sucks if the unit you got in the first place has none of the above potential issues. Hopefully they can nail down the model or serial of units that have the bad battery and exclude most of us from recall. I dont see how the recall process could be convenient by any means and a lot of people will probably have to go without a phone for a bit if they don't have a backup

Yeah mine's currently RMA'd to fix that same problem. I don't think it's a wide spread issue but I'd setup an RMA to get it fixed quick.

I am in contact with ZTE Canada. They ask for my IMEI so I guess I will have to RMA it also.
Sucks I like the phone but one of the thing that scared me going with ZTE was reliability. :-\

Yeah like I said, I don't think it's widespread. I'm the one that caused the problem.. But I think it's very cool that they RMA'd it for free and are taking care of it. Now I don't have the device yet so we'll see what happens when it's all said and done, but at this time? I'm completely happy with the warranty on the phone that just CAME with it for free. I dig that.

That does not sound normal. I'd contact ZTE support and see if that's covered by their warranty.
Hello.

What happened to your phones ? I contacted zte germany. Lets see what they say.
