Anyone get this to work on Verizon? As soon as I insert Verizon sim, WiFi calling option goes away in settings, and phone app wants me to enable wifi calling while trying to make a call.
No luck here. Have you called Verizon? I did but my signal is too weak. This is probably going to be a deal breaker for me.
I'm just making do with GV for WiFi calls for now.
On the phone with Verizon and he is telling me that the Essential Phone requires Verizon's firmware in order to use any Advanced Calling features such as wifi calling...

You've stated this before, can you explain? From what I've read, wifi calling is not a feature of Google Voice. You can make calls with GV, but it is still using the carrier's signal and not wifi.

Yes, they said "We can't guaranty all services will work or not work on non-Verizon branded phones".
If you remove the sim and restart the phone, the WiFi calling option appears again in settings. Add the sim and it's gone. I guess the software has to let the sim dictate what options the carrier wishes to be enabled on each phone. That is what "verified" means?

I've managed to get VoLTE / advanced calling working for me... Took a few sim card activations but it eventually worked. As far as wifi calling, I can't seem to find the option or setting to enable it... Hopefully it'll be fixed once oreo is outta beta
You need the Verizon firmware to enable wifi calling and unless Verizon start selling this phone the firmware won't be available.

how did you pull that off exactly? whenever i enable it when i try to make a call i get service error
new sim, and took off hd calling of my account and then re-added it back to my account and rebooted. i also went into the 4363 testing menu and made sure volte was turned on. as well as the enhanced 4glte option was switched on.
maybe because Verizon sell the pixel and iPhone, they provide google and apple with the necessary files.
It sucks, I really wish WiFi calling would work. Maybe eventually it will, I remember when VoLTE was proprietary and now almost all phones support it.

How can you tell if it's working? I have the options in my menu but since my signal is good it never switches.....
I went to hell and back trying to get OB 8.1 to work with my Verizon sim OB3 and down work without issue.
Anyway I wound up getting a new sim card from Verizon then went back to OB3 did the OTA and when it booted back up I had to do the prl update *228 once I finished the steps I noticed I had wifi calling enabled in all my menus it didn't ask for an e911 address on my phone but it did on my wear24 watch which is synced to my phone and number. the watch can do wifi calling and texting as well. Hell of a deal for under 70 bucks. Not sure if that triggered something on the phone?

My dad recently purchased a 900V from Ebay that was on Verizon. Got the phone activated on ATT just fine and he can make phone calls and send text messages. However, he is unable to get rid of the message that pops up saying that its not a Verizon SIM Card. Any ideas? Thanks!
Your dad should have bought an att or T-Mobile S5. LTE won't work right on a Verizon S5, and I don't think there's a way to permanently remove the SIM card message without root.
I believe this should work temporarily:
Go to settings >> applications >> application manager >> all
Then find an application called "activation agent".
Click on it, then click force stop.
This should suppress the message until the phone gets rebooted.

Thank you sir! I told him to get a ATT or Tmobile phone but he was convinced that the verizon S5 would work due to it being advertised as a GSM phone. He was also having an issue not being able to access the internet without WiFi but someone at the ATT store fixed that for him. Now hes not able to receive MMS messages

Sounds like he needs to adjust his APN and MMS settings.

Yes, there IS a fix!
I'll never understand why people reply when they don't actually have an answer. Fact is, your father didn't buy an AT&T phone and it's unlikely he's going to go sell his and buy an AT&T phone, so why introduce such a non-answer??
Now that I'm done ranting...
If you root the phone and install xposed framework, you can block status bar notifications using Gravity Box (>Status Bar Tweaks > Notification Blocker) or there is another module named NotifyClean which will also allow you to remove the SIM card nag.
I am using a Verizon phone on Cricket Wireless, which uses AT&T towers and have personally used the above solution.
By the way, my reception with Cricket is EVERY bit as good as it was on Verizon, even while traveling across country in some sparsely populated towns. Furthermore, my bill dropped from $420 to $200, taxes included! I also have 50 GB of hi-speed dafa (10 for each line) vs a shared 15 GB across all 5 lines with Verizon. There is only one minor disadvantage. With a Verizon phone, you will be limited to 4g speeds (~5 m/s), and will not be able to take advantage of LTE speeds (~20-25 m/s), but really, I'm incredibly doubtful anyone is actually gonna notice a difference on a mobile device.

I bought a 64 gb silver 6P off swappa. I can send back if needed, but i'd like to try and fix it before sending it back.
texts, data, etc.... all work, just no phone callsin or out.
Its was all stock onthe march update, i read where chroma might solve it,so i unlocked the bootloader and installledit, but so far its still a no go.
any thoughts?
Justin
just as an update, I have also flashed back to complete stock, including the must up to date radio. Relocked the bootloader etc... but still nothing. I checked APN info and settings..... went to the hidden service menu and verified it was set to US bands etc...
Also, traded SIM cards with my wifes phone and my SIM worked in her S6, but her SIM did the same in the new 6P, no calls in or out.
Looking like I will have to return it to the seller if I can't get this figured out. Stinks cause I really wanted to upgrade to the 64gb and get rid of my gold color lol.
THanks,
Justin

Maybe the SIM's are not provisioned correctly. I would call the carrier and find out. Try to toggle HD Voice in Settings, Cellular Networks.

I would definitely recheck the "Mobile Network Settings" screen... Such a weird issue.
Preferred network type, GSM, ETC.
Did you ever try switching VoLTE (HD Voice option) ON or OFF? I'm very curious if this makes a difference...

I use ATT, I *believe* the enhanced 4g LTE mode is for Verizon, but I could be wrong. It is not an option on this one or my other 6p.
Justin
I just double checked both my current *and working* 6p and the non-working 6p and neither had the enhanced option. Also tried my wife's SIM again. It works inbher S6, it works in my 6p, but not in the new one. It's crazy, I've had my sim in a Moto x, a G2, G3, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, note 5, Honor 5x, and my current 6p.... So I can't really think it could be a SIM issue... But can't figure out anything else it could be on the phone side unless the physical radio is dead or disconnected inside maybe.
When I flashed the complete stock build (current March security build), it displayed on the screen as it was writing the Radio, so I would assume that should be the mostn curent radio correct?
Justin
OK, so through some more research I saw where someone was having a similar but different issue and it was suggested he manually flash it back to stock as opposed to using a automated tool kit. Well I've been using the wugfresh tool kit, so I redownloaded the latest image from Google and went through and manually flashed everything again.... But Nada still has data and texts, but no phone calls in or out.

Are you still having this issue? My 6P recently started having a similar issue in which I cannot make/receive phone calls but only when I am physically at my apartment. It leads me to believe it is an issue with the cell tower, but my roommate is also on AT&T and has no issues at our apartment.
BLUF:
If your Verizon account does NOT have HD Voice enabled and the essential phone has "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" enabled (which is a default setting) you may not be able to make/receive phone calls.
I had an older phone running a lineage fork that did NOT support HD Voice. For whatever reason that also means it isn't enabled on my Verizon account. It doesn't cost anything extra and isn't plan specific but until you enable on a phone (says VZW Tech) the setting stays off.
When I put my SIM into the new Essential phone I could make calls but it would NOT find a new tower. IF i was driving any distance I had to reboot the phone completely to get data or make calls.
As of a few days ago my data was always working (LTE+) but suddenly I could not make or receive any calls. Again, texting, internet, etc. was fine. (yes wifi was off to test this =)
I was on with VZW support trying to fix this when my essential trouble ticket was answered with:
Given that you are getting the LTE+ icon already, can you try this step and see if it helps:
Go to Settings -> More -> Cellular Networks
Disable "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode"
Make a phone call
Return to the Settings menu and re-enable Enhanced 4G LTE Mode

VZW said give it a try lets see. With it "off" I could suddenly make calls. With it back on I couldn't again.
VZW said I bet that's what we call "HD Voice" and I see its not enabled on your phone. He enabled it. I rebooted. Everything works again with that setting on or off.
I emailed this back to essential just to let them know what I did with VZW and got reply:
My understanding was "HD voice" was enabled on all smartphone accounts with Verizon, but I will add that as a step to check in the future.

I've been troubleshooting this with VZW and Essential for a while so very happy to find fix. I also went out and got a brand new SIM but that also didn't help. Both new and old sim worked in old phone fine but in essential no luck.
I had at first though unlocking bootloader / rooting had done something . I wiped and reflashed this thing 4 times yesterday trying different things to no avail.
I know some other Verizon uses were having weird issues so wanted to share.
I'll prolly never get so lucky with tech support synergy again in my life... but at least this one time they were quickly helpful.
MODs: If this should be in "guides" instead please move or I can repost

Hi, I've seen where some users have reported success getting VoLTE to work on the OP 6 on AT&T, but I have not had the same success in the OP 6T. I followed the same steps and enabled it on the phone, which now shows that it should use VoLTE when available. I have also spent many (painful) hours in the phone with AT&T trying to resolve this issue, all without success. Has anyone else been able to get this to work, and confirmed that LTE data is still presented when in a call?
Thanks in advance!
I have the McLaren version and with TMobile and I can confirm that it is using VoLTE see picture below.
"technically" I'm using at&t, but it's a tracfone sim via Straight Talk. I enabled it for both VoLTE & VoWifi, and the LTE one took off but the wifi version did not.
I DID notice the difference in call quality. Much better audio response.
Yeah. I'm on AT&T and I got VoLTE working. I just made a call and did a speed test while on the call. Everything indicated it was still on LTE.

I had issues with VoLTE when I first got phone. Read my post from another thread. Basically had to wait for AT&T to get my line provisioned correctly. Don't know exactly what needed to be changed/activated.

I got my 6T on Friday. Used @crowsnestitsupport's instructions for the *#800# trick to get the VoLTE & WiFi calling settings to show. Popped in my sim. Had LTE data but didn't get VoLTE & couldn't get AT&T's VVM app to activate. Called support, ended up giving them my IMEI and not surprisingly it came up as Unknown Device. Guy basically said until the system can recognize the device there was nothing he could do to get VoLTE & VVM working. However after I got off the phone, I quickly realized I no longer had any mobile data at all. Called back, spoke to another rep, and she tried for an hour to get my data back. She wasn't able to. She had to escalate the issue and said it could take 24 hours or more to resolve. I figured out that if I changed APN from ATT Nextgenphone to ATT Phone I could at least have some mobile data, albeit only 3G. Wasn't until Sunday afternoon that LTE came back online including VoLTE. I don't know what had to change to get it all working. Just glad that it is now. Still no WiFi calling but I don't expect to get that.

It's well documented that that doesn't work, doesn't change anything. I spent two years with the OP5 and 5t trying to get them to enable VOLTE, in about 12 different ways and it never worked. Either you were on WIFI or just really, really special.

I appreciate the feedback, just wish I could get it working on mine. As much as I hate the experience, I'm thinking it might just be worth going to the AT&T store just to get them to use my SIM in one of their devices just to get VoLTE working on the line (and/or verify it works on one of their with it already activated)

So, I can now confirm that VoLTE works on the 6T. Basically, the system requires HDVoice to get VoLTE working. The solution? I bought a $25 AT&T Prepaid junk phone and enabled HDVoice and WiFi calling on my SIM. After that, I switched the SIM back in to my 6T and it is now working.

I did, numerous times. They submitted my IMEI to enable the features, and I was told that everything was set up correctly. Upon their recommendation, I went as far as sending my brand new 6T back and buying another one. It didn't matter how many people I talked to, it didn't work until after I used the junk phone to first get it working on the line.

When I first swapped it worked and then stopped. I had to put the SIM back in the AT&T phone and again enabled VoWiFi. I then pulled the battery, turned on the 6T, and inserted the SIM. It's been working on the 6T since.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but has anyone found out exactly what to do to get this working?
VoLTE was working perfectly on my 3T, albeit the only way to make the switches appear was with the VoEnabler module in Magisk.. but once they appeared, all I had to do was turn it on, and VoLTE was up and running. I tried the same thing on this phone after putting my SIM in, directly from the 3T; it worked for a few minutes, then the status bar icon disappeared and calls drop my connection to 3G, then go back to LTE once the call is over.. so clearly it has turned itself can off.
I then put my SIM card into my wife's At&t branded Galaxy s9, and after a few minutes VoLTE was working, using my SIM in her phone. I popped my SIM back into my phone, VoLTE was back working... Except, just as before, after a few minutes it stopped.
One thing I've noticed, while working correctly, under the IMS Service Status menu selection in the *#*#4636#*#* dialer menu -> Phone Information, it shows IMS Registration: Registered. Voice over LTE: available... But once it stops working, it says not registered, and unavailable respectively...
Since there are apparently people who seem to have it working, what am I not doing?
Could it be that the phone I put my SIM card into, is currently in use by someone else; someone else who also is provisioned for VoLTE? But what would be the reason it decided to stop working on my 6T and not my 3T? I used the same procedure to trigger VoLTE working on my 3T, and it never stopped working as it is doing on my 6T.
We work opposite shifts, and I used my few minutes we see each other a day to put my SIM in her phone then back into my 6T, I didn't put it in my 3T, which I will do next time I see her.. just to see if the 3T will hold onto VoLTE; that way I'll know for sure if it's something the 6T is doing differently than my 3T, or if I just got lucky before...
Any input or suggestions are welcome..
Edit:
Called AT&T customer service, put my SIM in the S9 and said I was unable to activate either WiFi calling or HD Voice, yet my wife's SIM in the same phone works.. they said that for some reason, my SIM was apparently attached to a non at&t Galaxy s9, she changed the IMEI associated with my SIM card and it's all good now.

Opposite for me... The HD icon only appears when I have VoLTE on, as shown.. perhaps something to do with using 2 SIM cards?

Hello,
I know this has been touched on before but I have not seen anything recent about it and I just got this phone today and I have no incoming SMS. I have everything that uses data working fine (email, etc), and outgoing SMS, and incoming and outgoing calls are fine, but I am not getting ANY INCOMING SMS.
Used the SIM from the Google Pixel 2 XL that I had before this phone, went to the Verizon store, they put the OP 8 on my account with the correct IMEI from SIM slot 1 and it was able to pull my number over and everything else was working including 4g, but incoming SMS was/is not working.
Does anybody know why this is still going on, and how to fix it. Do I need to get a new SIM from a VZW corporate store? Do I need to tell them anything special like CDMA-less provisioning, and if so, do I tell the store employee that, or do I have to call tech support?
Also just so you know I also tried another sim from another phone number on my account and it also does not receive incoming SMS, everything else works fine on that sim and number also.
Thanks guys, really don't want to have to take this phone back!
I had the exact same problem with my one+ pro on Verizon as well. I ended up going back to a corporate store and they just gave me a new sim card with a 5g logo on it and all seems to be well again. I can finally receive text messages again.
You need them to put CDMA-LESS on your account. It basically makes all your SMS and not just voice, etc to go across LTE instead of defaulting back to CDMA for incoming txt messages. Once you do that, BOOM, it'll work. I've had more success chatting with support than going to the stores to get it done. If the person you're talking to doesn't understand CDMA less, disconnect and try again.
Hey everybody, just wanted to let you know that I got it figured out by calling support and getting someone who knew what CDMAless was and they provisioned that and it works now. Although what is weird is that it only works with googles messaging app, not the default app.
This should be stickied

I spent at least an hour on the phone with two levels of Verizon support trying to resolve the problem of not receiving texts. Verizon supports has to add the "CDMA-less" tag to your account and device. After this is done, the phone and texts work flawlessly.

Hey everybody, just wanted to let you know that I got it figured out by calling support and getting someone who knew what CDMAless was and they provisioned that and it works now. Although what is weird is that it only works with googles messaging app, not the default app.

it works for the default messaging app as of yesterday
I just went through all of this with Verizon. Because of the pandemic getting through to customer support is quite difficult. The only way I can get through was with Facebook messenger, and the link that they sent so I could verify my account was broken. Finally they called me and it took a whole 10 seconds to fix this. Too bad it took 2 days to get ahold of somebody so I can get it fixed..........

I just tried this, and the person claimed they had added it, but it definitely did NOT work, at least not while I had the 4G SIM installed. However, my OnePlus 8 5G UW had come with a new Verizon 5G SIM in the box, so we had them activate that new 5G SIM, at which point yes, everything started working. So Verizon really wants you to switch to a 5G SIM.

Big red must have changed tactics. I had this problem last September I think it was, it took a couple of phone calls to Verizon but they added CDMA less to my account and then they said they had to send some data to my phone or reactivated or something like that, but anyway I have not had this problem since then.
