I got my HD2 last friday and i love it thus far, but i cant help be bothered by problems that just started monday. Such as it drops from 3G-E-G and goes back when i'm in the same position. Today the phone froze on, Message lag and every time i turn my phone from sleep i get this message.
"Cannot connect for a unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed tap settings. If the problem continues reset your mobile device according to your manufactures documentation and try again"
Even when it has full bars. I know a lot of these problems are software related and not hardware I would return the phone but i bought it new from ebay so i cant. Starting to regret this should of gone for the Nexus One.
Since you just got the phone last Friday, did you do much research on this phone? If you had, you would have read on the T-Mo HD2 forums and on here that there have been issues with the phone.
Research would also have suggested to you that the good number of the issues of lagging, freezing, and just plain weirdness on the phone can be attributed to the HTC/Sense Messaging app on the phone. What a number of owners have done is to disable this messaging app and to start using the standard WinMo messaging app. I've had my phone since release day and can say that with the HTC/Sense Messaging, I experienced the weirdness. Since flashing to a cooked ROM and disabling this, I have not experienced any of it at all.
Having said all that, it sounds like you're already frustrated with this and are having second thoughts. But you're in luck since the remorse period for you has not expired. So, I wholeheartedly recommend that you return the phone and get the Nexus One to avoid any future frustration with the phone.
I did do research, also some people have stated their aren't issues. Also i got this phone through EBAY so no remorse period. I like it, i'm just wondering when will Tmobile/HTC release an update that fix all these problems?

In that case, I suggest finding out from those people without issues why they don't have them and trying them on your phone. As for no remorse period, my bad.
And as for when T-Mo and HTC will release fixes? Perhaps we can ask our friends in the UK how long it's taken HTC to fix their issues. It sounds like they still have them even though they got the phone months ahead of us, so I'm not too hopeful.

I wouldn't be surprised is there are no more official updates released, as the phone is over 6 months old already. I suggest doing some reading and try to work out the problems yourself. It's a great and very versatile phone with tons of options and potential if you learn how to use WinMo and work out any kinks or problems you come across. There are tons of resources and people to help on this forum. Are you familiar with Windows Mobile, or is this your 1st Windows phone?
Well i hope they do. I do like the phone a lot love the big screen. I did have WM phone it was the Dash but i didnt do much to it..
It's official, after being on Android since its inception, I officially HATE the vibrant and I HATE Tmobile for not having phones like the EVO or Incredible and giving us that crappy HD worthless 2. I've had so many issues with this phone. And now the frustrations continue and I give up.
I flashed Eugene's Vibrant5 and the damn lag fix and rebooted my phone only to find that:
1. My entire voicemail box was erased and I had several unheard voicemails from today. I have to set my voicemail box up as if I never had one. I've never had this happen before and I don't know what on earth gives but i'm irritated
2. Now Windows 7 does not recognize my device so I can't get into ADB to flash JAC's Kernel. I went through a lot of frustration yesterday to finally get Windows 7 to recognize the device and now I'm back to square one. I refuse to go through the same crap to get Windows 7 to recognize my device, I installed the latest drivers so that's it, f*ck this phone. Who makes a phone with no L.E.Ds and a piece of sh*t battery life anyway???
I HATE THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!!!
So, you hate the phone because YOU took the risk of modifying and now you don't like the results?? Flashing your phone has nothing to do with your voicemail since your phone doesn't host voiceemail box, so not sure what you did there.
Did you research the phone before you bought it? Hope your within the 14 day window to return it.
Cya later then.

The voicemail thing is a Tmobile issue, not the phone. It's how Tmobile has decided to implement VVM on android. It's lame and happens even if you had gone back to a completely stock rom. You shouldn't have lost your messages tho, just install the app and refresh your inbox, they should all be there again.
As for your other problem, are you using Windows 7 64bit? For some reason there are issues with some 64bit Windows 7 machines and the Samsug drivers.
I've got 2 computers running 64bit one works perfectly the other some things work some don't. I have several other Windows 7 32bit systems and they all work without any issue. I think this problem has been mentioned in several of the Odin threads for what it's worth.
Sounds like someone got over their head with different MODs to their phone and can't figure out a way back. Complaining about a phone because Windows won't recognize it sounds like you have a problem with Windows and not Samsung. Maybe you ought to flash the stock ROM and wait for more "user-friendly" MODs to come along. Day by day I am slowly not wanting to even look here for info on my phone due to moronic posts like this.
I'm with tweak on this one... Sounds like you're angry at the modifications you've tried to apply and failed at. The lagfix is a beta mod thats extremely risky since it uses EXT2 format and the data can be easily corrupted if the phone powers down abruptly. The stock vibrant is a very fast and stable phone (I came from a Nexus One and i love the vibrant).
Are you sure you "set up" your visual voicemail app? I find it hard to beleive the phone some how "deleted" your VM's. that just doesnt make sense, since they're not even stored on the phone. try dialing 1.
Good luck with your next phone.
No one cares. I don't get why people randomly rant.
Ill buy it for the $100 its on sale for today through tmobile. Pm me!
Bye bye, have fun with your new sheep phone ...

No it's not Tmobile, I had flashed another rom and went back to stock using ODIN and my voicemail was fine, it only happened after I flashed Vibrant5 and the lagfix. I've had a lot of issues with this phone since day one so I'm obviously majorly annoyed. I know how to get back that's not the issue, I'm really annoyed with the phone in general, it's a great upgrade from the MyTouch and design wise I like it a bit better than my Nexus one but MODing this thing is irritating, I've never had issues with my Nexus, MyTouch or G1 so it's not me. The samsung drivers are just lame. I prefer using ADB and it's just really annoying. I have 3 other phones and I can easily sell this one for much more than I bought it for, I paid $109 corporate discount and I'm tempted to put this b*tch on Craigslist for $350 and I know it would sell today. But then I'd be left with my nexus one which I like but am bored with, I modded the hell out of it already, so I don't know, I think I'm just going to switch back to my Nexus one until my stress levels decrease.

I've got 2 Vibrant's beside me as I type this. I've tried several different versions of the lag fix as well as a few of the roms (deodexed, Vibrant, etc) on both. EVERY one of them requires VVM to be re-setup as does the stock rom if/when you revert to it via Odin. In every case your messages are still there once you have reloaded/re-synced the app. Not sure why you would consider that something to blame the phone for, it's part of setting everything back up after a flash as far as I see it.
P.S. If you don't think part of the problem is Tmobile, go check out a Droid or Droid X and see how different and better integrated VVM is on those devices.
P.P.S. For clarification above I meant to say everytime a new ROM is flashed, I've never had to re-setup VVM for the lag fix etc..

The only issue I have had so far is that my time zone tick does not stick when I reboot the phone so everyday I have to re-untick it so that the time dont change on me when I drive into Texas, which I have to do 5 days a week for my employer. Other than that it works perfectly on Windows 7 64bit here. Still wish we had linux support though. lol

Yeah, for that price I would also sell it, but I would turn around and buy a new one. I LOVE my Vibrant. All it really lacks is Dev support and it sounds to me that is your only real issue also, crappy drivers and lack of dev support. My GF loves her Evo, so you should probably change carriers and get one of them instead. Oh and my brother loves his Incredible to, both are very nice phones.
good luck
I think user is suffering from the ID10T error.
Has anyone found a fix?

Not sent from my Vibrant using XDA App 'cause I returned it.
vibrant is not a bad phone...its a REALLY good phone, does everyhting i need it to...
So basically what I get out of this is your upset because you don't know how to install drivers on Windows 7 and that the device is not fully mod ready from day one? HTC Android devices have been here since the start (G1), that is why there is such high support and why the turn around is so quick for them to be modded. The Galaxy S series is Samsungs first "real" attempt at a powerful Android device. ADB works fine, learn to install the drivers. The only real issue with the device is the GPS which is already been acknowledged. Also voicemail is hosted not stored. Installing roms and modding your phone does not affect your voicemail. God I hate stupid people, mods please delete this thread.
OP your best bet is to get an iPhone and leave us alone - thanks.
Its been what a month or so since the phone has been out?
If you where truly here when the G1 first hit then you seriously can not talk about frustration.
I am going to return it because of problems of phone shutting itself off automatically. This is my 3rd one, and they all did this. If I wait till october (after 2.2), will I be buying a different phone (hardware wise), or the exact same thing? Maybe a newer batch will be less glitchy? (gps, lag, shutdowns)
i was wondering if perhaps the phones that are rolling out in october/november, will work flawlessly out of the box? Maybe some hardware changes?
Thing is i got a good deal on a 3 year plan (the worker at bestbuy messed up and gave it to me $50 less than what he's supposed to), and if i return it now (since the 14 day return expires tomorrow), i will pay $50 more for it if i decide to buy it again in october.
My carrier will put my hardware upgrade back onto my account, and i can buy whatever phone i want at a later date (WILL NOT BUY AN IPHONE...EVER). But i dont think any good new phones better than SGS are coming out soon...are there any? thanks
I got no lag, never ever had a restart and gps should be fixed to some extent. October you will see the g2, will it be flawless ? No nothing usually is..
The lag I hear about but don't have myself so I can understand that, but the restarts have to be something you installed or a lemon. I'f you had that happen on all 3? Definitely something you installed
Dude, what are you doing to your phone(S)???? I have never had my phone reboot/shutdown unless I was messing around with installing system apps from another rom... and that was a super easy fix.
$10 says OP had crap like setCPU on his or her phone. Samsung has already tried to make it harder to get into recovery and download mode.....hmmm I wonder why?

dont have any apps installed except for adobe reader. Someone mentioned it could be my sim card, so i changed it and it has not happened since...but...its only been 4 days, and this shutoff thing happens every 3 to 5 days anyways..so if i wait to see if it was perhaps my sim card all along, then it will be too late. «9refund policy).
If you go over to the captivate forum, you will see that many people (almost one third of people) have this issue. It could just be bad sim cards, but i dont know for sure.

Not a god idea because more phones will be out at that time and you won't be able to decide. Like the person above me. If adobe reader is the only app installed then that's most likely the culprit.
Why not just use thinkfree pdf reader? Works just as god as adobe's.

Your sd card may be corrupt too.
To answer the OP question, I think it's worth returning the phone even if you have to eat the 50 bucks. The G2 is coming out this month and the MyTouch HD in November. Both phones could be strong contenders. If you can hold out til then you might even be able to get the vibrant for a reduced price.

yea i find it hard to believe all 3 have the same problem did u buy them all from the same place? i know the phone has it's problem but Ive never herd anyone have one were it randomly restarts on them.

Man, thats turrrrible..
I'd be less eager to point fingers at Abobe, personally. Userspace (i.e. non-kernel) code shouldn't be able to lock up phones in this manner. I can understand slating SetCPU - over-clocking is never guaranteed to be safe. But simple apps like a PDF reader? Even utilising SetCPU to just scale down CPU clock speed should be absolutely safe...
I've had my phone now for just under a month and in the last week it's developed this issue where it'll crash/shutdown when left idle. And no, I'm not running any stability-compromising apps, zero mods, nada. Not even rooted it. Just stock firmware and a handful of apps - apps I've not even run since installing them weeks ago. And for what it's worth, I wiped my handset this evening and after roughly 15 minutes of being left idle while I was eating dinner, it died again.
Now I've not got a Vibrant myself; I'm an SGS owner. But if you search the Samsung sub-forums here at xda-developers, or do a Google search, you'll find hundreds of Vibrant, Epic and Galaxy S users who are reporting exactly the same issues. Which leads me to think that this really has nothing to do with userspace code at all. Instead it points back to Samsung's sloppy business practices of releasing Android-based phones before they're fully cooked...
Long story short; I sent the phone to a former NTSB investigator who confirmed what I already knew. Thermal damage.
The refurbished phone that they sent as a replacement was FULL of issues, so I had to have it replaced, as well. The camera would not focus, the sound recorder only recorded static, it wouldn't retain my preferences that I set in the phone, and randomly reverted to the default ringtone.
When I called back to get it replaced; I was greeted by a VERY friendly, helpful, and understanding representative who told me that the original claim WAS NOT handled properly. She overnighted a new phone and battery and asked me to return the original phone to a different address for examination. She agreed that they would probably just take one look at it and claim that it was physical damage. She reversed the charges for the replacement - even though I had the "Premium" insurance on it. She also noted that I had a written report with photos to verify that it was a manufacturing defect - with the obvious caveat that if there really was physical damage that I would have to pay the deductible. Naturally; I used my Sony video microscope to take photos of every angle of the phone, the edges, etc. - to prove that there wasn't so much as a single blemish anywhere on the phone that they could construe as being "physical damage" - aside from the obvious darkening to the inner plastic from the internal heat, and it was isolated to the rear of the display.
I got back in town early yesterday and the newest replacement was already waiting. I charged the battery and fired it up. So far; so good. Works like a champ. Bear in mind, it's been less than 24 hours...
Oddly; I didn't start having issues until AT&T forcefully crammed the firmware update down my throat. And, no; I had done no modifications - such as rooting or work-arounds to either phone. So; I actually have a legitimate question: Have any of you experienced any phantom issues with your S4's, post firmware (FM3, I think) update? I know that it gave me a message: "Updating Camera Firmware", and the camera would no longer focus. I took copious photos and videos with it and have saved them for reference. In the videos; you can see that the camera is constantly zooming in and out of focus - even though it was stationary, aimed at a fixed subject, and at a very reasonable distance. Many of my downloaded programs also no longer worked, or would freeze up for no apparent reason. They all had worked perfectly prior to the update, as well as on my previous Motorola Atrix HD. They still are working perfectly on the Atrix HD that I passed down to my kids, after I unlocked it, rooted it, and installed the Pac-Man 4.3 ROM. When I got the first replacement S4; it kept prompting me to download the firmware update, and I kept denying permission - in the event that I felt frisky enough to do some fancy footwork on it later down the road. One morning I woke up and it had a message on the screen: "Software Update Successful!" After I angrily cleared that screen, it gave me the message about updating my camera firmware. Now; I'd only had it a day or so, so I can't verify that everything was working properly before - it just seemed to be OK.
My next question is: Is there any way to block them from updating this phone, and constantly bombarding me and forcing me to install useless "bloatware" that I'll never use and only uses up more of my internal memory. I have the 32GB S4 so it's not a huge issue, but it's obnoxious, at the very least that they think that they know better than I do what I want to be installed on my phone. I can hide them, uninstall the updates and put them out of sight, but they're there, none the less, and I don't want them! Yeah; I know I agreed to their terms, but that just seems downright controlling and unfair. And, by the way; even if I do hide them, and uninstall the updates; they magically reappear in a few days and it seems like I'm constantly receiving messages prompting me to update them. Even if I decline; they download anyway. Sort of a "Wash, Rinse, Repeat" scenario.
OK; after my last nasty rant, I expect (and deserve) some nasty feedback, but I'd really appreciate any suggestions or insight to these issues. Any similar experiences? I'd been foaming at the mouth waiting to get this phone, but it seems like it's been one terrific headache after another. I've only owned Motorola phones (since 1985) until now. Motorola now seems lackluster compared to the newer models or I'd have never jumped ship. Now; it seems like I made a $700.00 mistake. I really hope I'm wrong and just unfamiliar with other manufacturers equipment. Save me from myself!
Thanks, everyone!

The Samsung updates are kind of like the old "Window Updates needs to restart, postpone for X hours." But if you leave it there, then it will reboot by itself. Kind of like this updated by itself. The only way to avoid updates is rooting the phone and freezing or deleting that service, or of course, changing ROMs. (But I believe you're on MF3 firmware now so..)
Other than that, can't say much as I have the T-Mobile variant.
If you have MDB or MDL firmware do this. It will stop AT&T updates. I would freeze anything that even looks like a Samsung updater also.

I guess the next obvious question is: "How?" I don't want to root the phone yet, but didn't think you could freeze any of their apps without rooting or modifying the stock firmware. I'm afraid to do any mods to it until I know it's going to be a stable device - and hence; not taking any chance of voiding my warranty. Sorry for what's probably a dumb question, but I'm new to modifying phones.
Also; what is the best way to sterilize the phone that I'm returning of contacts, remnants of uninstalled programs, etc?
Added: It already has the MF3 update installed. Grrr!
Thanks again!

A factory reset from settings/accounts/backup & restore will wipe out all that. I would think it would be safe to do that with MF3, but I'm no expert. You might want to get other opinions also.

Great until I went to confirm that I was going to delete everything in my brain and give them a pint of virgin blood; then it asked for a "New Password" and wouldn't give me anything but a numeric keypad. Huh??? Sup wid dat? It wouldn't delete ANYTHING until I confirmed my "password" which isn't numeric at all, but gave me no other options. I'm going to try booting it up from "off" and see if there's a way to do it from there. FEAR.
Will Sprint LGG6 Ever Obtain Root or Unlocked Bootloader?

The million dollar question. I hope it happens but this is the first phone stock I've had that doesn't annoy me. I actually barely notice at all but I love to flash so maybe one day
My phone runs great no issues so it's not a big thing to have it rooted in that aspect, however. I like to keep NANDROID backups in case something happens, and the ability to backup applications the way I want is very important to me. Just using apps to backup everything is one thing, but if something occurs on a system level, you are generally screwed unless you have ROOT to be able to tinker and fix it yourself. I was able to fix countless phones on my own when the stores would want to wipe to factory reset or give me a refurbished. Screw that mess, give me freedom. Besides, it's illegal for them to deny you insurance claims based on ROOT. They legally have to prove that you damaged the phone by modifying the software. Battled and won twice after threats of a lawsuit. I have that part of the consumer rights saved in multiple places, just need to remember where so I can post it.
It all depends on whether or not the bootloader is locked, dm-verity, restrictions, etc. I hope it's not something like the Galaxy S7 with its Qualcomm Secure Boot.
The bootloader isn't even accessible from any user accessable means from what I've encountered, I can't seem to get in, I have "Enable OEM unlock" in settings, but it just seems that fastboot has been entirely stripped from this device... Very weird.

Truth is the LG G6 is a spectacular phone.. But the rooting community is getting smaller and smaller as android allows you to be more customizable and the average device life for people has gone from 2-3 years.. to every year now with leases and trade ins at carriers, and flagship phones coming out every 8-14 months.
WIth the G4 randomly dying, and the G5 having battery issues.. It took LG a while to get it right, and I love this phone more than the s8 and s8+ but LG jumped on the "apple/samsung" bandwagon by locking bootloaders... There are alot more people with Samsungs than LGs right now.. The reason behind all the companies going this route is because of Android Pay and proprietary security by phone manufacturers to push more sales through corporate and enterprise security..
At least LG is over time unlocking some variants ( albeit international) of the G6 its hopeful...
We used to have this luxury with HTC but they are still trying to stay afloat.
Those are just my observations... from working for an indirect dealer and rooting tons of phones for 9+ Years.
We just have to pray for an exploit- somewhere.. someone out there has turned it into an obsession... Lets just hope they emerge ....

Ditto on all that. For ads, I've used the all in one opt out which has eliminated lots of ads. Bloat is irritating, having to reset Google Voice after every update. Xposed was awesome. And I want all the Sprint badging and boot animation gone. Even temp root would make me happy.
Just everybody remember. Do not update. Usually root is achieved on lowest firmwares only in the last few history of lg series
Someone just messaged me this: Maybe some jtag process could work, or test point at qcom mode, dumping boot.img and rooting with magisk
