Best launcher out at the moment to me: Car Launcher AG
Testing at the moment togehter with CarWebGuru.
Yess, is very cool!
Is here a Thread to the Car Launcher AG?
yep very nice but contains stil a lot of bugs.
It seems that al these launchers are not designed for MTCB/D devices but for plain android devices (phones and tablets)...
To see the english version -> play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=altergames.carlauncher&hl=en
(I can't link that since I'm just a very newbie here.)
Not sure why I'd use this app. What is is supposed to be good for ?
Anyone found out how to use the built in music player?
Also does the auto brightness function work for you?
Nick.

I found the music player.
Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Issue:
Use poweramp as music player.
Set this as default player in settings, everything works (start/stop/next...) but without cover!
Set generic player and choose poweramp cover is shown, but not possible to start/stop/next...
What did i wrong?
I use latest CLAG v1.5.1 and poweramp, player settings is "universal"/generic?. At first I had to push <, > wheel controls twice to make it skip to prev/next. Then I used poweramp setting (long press on loop icon) selecting random play on *all* collection of files - since that moment it now skips to prev/next OK.
The only issue I have when first time pressing "play" in launcher - it invokes poweramp GUI, where I have to press Play again then "home" back to launcher gui. Covers are shown if available.
Pushing the < or > twice is not the problem. Will try this out
But "pause" also not working. Try to push this twice, too.
Very nice.

I'm using this on a 9" XRC MCU / PX3 unit with Android 7.1.2, the different settings on the brightness button do not seem to do anything for me, I have not found a way to make that work, although I'm not sure my unit has an ambient light sensor (I suspect it doesn't).

So, double tap not working.
Setting gerenic player with poweramp. Every button is not responding ;-(
Once, twice pressed... no matter how often. Not working.
Only in Player setting "poweramp" the buttons are responding. But then no cover ;-(

I don't use Poweramp, but from a couple years ago there were reports that the Poweramp setting for supporting the Android lockscreen needed to be checked to allow controls to work properly, might be worth trying. (FWIW controls work for me on Spotify, Castbox, etc).

Poweramp control works if in Bluetooth/headphone setting hardkeys are enabled!
Purchased this launcher and love it. However it will go back to the stock radio or music whenever I start the player/car. Even though I already set Car Launcher AG as home screen. Another problem stock radio will stop once go back to home screen. Does anyone got solution for these problems?
Thank you in advance.
Kakamal, there is an option in CL-AG settings - something like "always on top" (or similar meaning, sorry, I use it not in English) - try that.
I don’t have any problems on my mtcd unit. But have you noticed the gps speed is not accurate? It show 4-5 km/h too much compared to any other gps speed app...
Anyone now how to fix this?

Thanks ste2002 for the reply. Well.. I did set CLAG as "always on top" and as a default launcher but the problem still exist. The dev team are useless.. they don't even bother to reply to my email.

is there a way to not turn off the backlight when listening to music? sometimes when it goes off, then i have to punch in my pin to get back in, and working out can be a hassle..i'm using the default music player...
you can change your backlight setting and turning it off or you can have a few music players that turns off the screen and still play. there's a few that can do this one which is nitrogen. once you install it it'll have a power button of it's own and it'll turn off the screen. the tf3d music player does not have the option.
there are more music players that do it but i like using nitrogen.

search for the new S2P it works great. I think its ver.78b but get the one with the openGL support.
You could always find AE button Plus and remap a but to blank screen. I use the PPT button for this.

Since a lot of people suggest disabling the g-sensor to prevent the screen freezes I thought I'd try something.
I don't want to have my rotation disabled as it's very handy to have. So what I do is use an app called Tasker. It's not free, but there is a 7-day trial available.
Basically I have it set to disable screen rotation every time the screen is off..and so far I haven't had any screen freezes. It may be coincidence, it may not be. I'm not exactly sure if the app does disable the g-sensor or does something else, but so far so good.
For those that don't know about Tasker...it's probably the best app that will ever be made for Android. You can make your phone do almost anything.
For example, I use it to:
When I get home, Wifi turns on and 3G is turned off. When I leave home, Wifi turns off and 3G turns on....same for work.
I have it disable wifi, 3g and screen rotation at night when I'm in bed.
It enables GPS when I launch maps or navigation, and disables GPS when I close the app.
And those are very basic ones...
The Tasker wiki has many more advanced "profiles" you can use:
Code:
Lock An Application
Start the Day with a Particular Application
Battery Full Alert
Launch Music App When Headset Inserted
Launch Menu of Music Apps When Headset Inserted
Keep screen awake when using the keyboard
Speaking Clock for Android 1.5
Control Keyguard (scroll to unlock) when Power is Connected/Disconnected
Keep Multiple Backups of Tasker Config
Change Ringtone on Every New Call
Mute in Meetings
Hold Ringer Volume Down
Auto-Respond To SMSs At Night
Change Volume Levels during Different Times of the Day
Check Data/SMS/Minute Usage With Carrier While Sleeping
Temporarily max brightness of screen during Incoming Call
Auto (Silent) Sleep Mode with Exceptions
Intermediate
Power Plug In - Choose Car/Home/Night Mode
Generic Toggle Widget
Open the keyboard and start texting
Set volume then Launch menu of music apps
Alarmclock without Snooze
Alarms with Snooze and Vibrate
Geburtstagserinnerung (German)
Car Locator
Notification Reminder Pulse
Locate your phone using SMS and google maps
Lock your phone and locate it by SMS and sound
A full talking clock
Act like a docking station when plugged into USB
Auto answer calls when your bluetooth headset is connected
Extended phone profile changer with Notification and Widget
Turn your cell phone into a Voip phone
Advanced
Periodic Data Check (Juicedefender Replacement)
Creates profiles similar to S60 devices and changes them depending on variety of factors
U.S. Navy Ships Bells (Using Tasker's OR '/' feature) * Pattern Matching *
Changing background image depending on current weather (Using HTTPGet)
Or you can simply create your own...there is a learning curve, but once you get a feel for it, it's VERY powerful! It can control almost every part of your Android phone.
There's a decent thread with more examples on xda in this thread.
I realise this is a software post, but it's main aim was to point out a way of disabling rotation to help with screen freezes
Hey,
thanks for this thread, i have downloaded tasker now.
Can you post your code for disabling gsensor when screen is off?

@the_scotsman
Thanks for the suggestion, I've seen a few people mention this app before but now I finally downloaded it. I'll play around a bit to figure out some combos, but one quick question..
Is this going to be something running in the background sucking up battery and memory or is it just like running scripts? What do you think? I'll run current widget once I get some tasks going to see happens, just wondering if you've found anything out yet.

It depends on what profiles you set up...if they involve wireless, it will enable wireless every so often to check access points etc....or if you are using a location profile, it will enable gps every so often to check your location. You can change how often everything polls in the settings.
I have mine as per the first post, so it does scan for wireless every so often, and I havent seen any change in battery usage.

I tried many different versions of kernels but in all if I keep my phone on standby (screen off) for a long time, say 20 mins, my phone freezes, My hardware buttons still glow on press, but phone never wakes up, any Ideas??
Even you disable display rotation, the sensor is still active, just use Gscript and disable sensor, you won't get any more freeze.

I was just about to write exactly the same words!
Scotsman - can you tell if Tasker can run a custom written script, upon some event? Then we can use it to turn off the gsensor!
Finally seems to be workin!!I made 2 changes:
1) Upgraded my radio from 2.08 to 2.12 (I recommend this one)
2) Stopped GSensor with Gscript
Another issue,
After I restart the sensor via script, photos in album wont rotate anymore!!
I did a `ps -ef|grep akmd` and the process is running, any thoughts??
edit: it works after restart!!
did you use the free gscript? cause mine says needs su:true
Your solution is great thanks... i did something slightly different : using tasker, autorotation is enabled only for apps that I want too, like gallery. Rest of the time, its off and working great that way too.
been playing with the nfc tectile...
I want to set it up for the car...
1. run on bluetooth, set ringer and media vol. to max and brightness to auto.
i can do this ok
2. launch the audible app.. i can also do this
But there does not seem to be a way to do both.. the tectile app writes to the sticker are not cumulative.. it is either one or the other.. anyone have any thoughts or a better app so i can do both.. thanks
i think you need to use two tectiles. 1 to change settings and the other to launch aps.
to answer my own question:
nfc task launcher app in the market works for this.. can combine stuff. even has toggle. so first time it sets all the stuff for the car .. next turns them off for home..
was worried i would have to run the app but you don't has some background service that works.
only 1.99 works well..
Jelly Bean introduced headset controls which allowed Play/Pause and Next for single and double presses respectively on headsets. I can confirm both these work just fine.
However, the long-press option to launch Voice Search only works while screen is unlocked. When screen is locked, long-press has no effect (it does not even register as a single press)
I tried the following:
1. Disabling Pattern lock (which I mostly use)
2. Turning on screen (but still locked) and then long pressing.
3. Keeping Google Search on in the background and then locking screen.
No luck.
Cannot seem to get any useful info regarding this on the Internet.
There is no point in the voice search shortcut on headsets if the phone has to be dug out from my pocket and unlocked. There has to be a way to bypass that.
Can somebody help??
EDIT: I am also unsure if this is an Android-specific problem or a ROM specific problem, so it would be kind of you if you could test it yourself. You can see my ROM details in the signature. I use Samsung headset in combination with my Nexus 4.
UPDATE: I tried turning off the "Power button immediately locks phone" option and set "Automatically lock phone after sleep" time to 30 minutes. Still the long press doesn't work. It works only after screen is turned on again. Whaaaaa...?!
ANOTHER UPDATE: This issue is present on Google Code but it has been closed without further comments. Please star this issue so that it is noticed by the development team.
Been really frustrated about this as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running Jellybeer 4.0 on SGH i717m
Astounding. I even have to use a third party app to dial by voice reliably. What good is Google's extensive voice technology if you can't use it?
I'm equally as confused. One advantage of owning an iPhone is that you've got an excellent bike companion that could read and reply to texts, make calls, check the time, etc all while keeping my eyes on the road and hands on my handlebars. I always figured my Nexus S didn't do that because I was running a different ROM - but 4.2 on a brand new Nexus.....come on.

the closest thing that i know of is using touch control to swipe to unlock (like pressing the power button) the using NAV RING to swipe the nav ring to google search, or what ever app you like. not sure if this is what you want but it may get you closer.

I have to admit I have wanted to be able to do this for a long time on my motorcycle, being able to press one button and use voice controls would be a god send, although when riding I use an E-Dash app that keeps the screen awake so voice is available.

My solution:
1. Download Bluetooth Launch from Play Store
2. Launch, scroll to Google Search and expand it
3. Enable option “com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSearchActivity”
4. close
5. launch Google Now go to Settings -> Voice and enable Bluetooth Headset option
6. connect not working Bluetooth or wired headset and long press button. Dialog should appear and select Bluetooth Launcher always!
7. test if this is the complete solution for you. If it doesnt work properly when screen is locked try following:
- Install Xposed Framework
- go to Downloads and Install "AppSettings"
- open AppSettings and go to Google Search
- Turn On Settings and check "Show when locked"
- save
- restart Phone
If you are having issues with your selected language in Google Now. Also use AppSettings and change Location for Google Search to desired one. Now you should be able to use Google Now in your preferred language.

But Exposed Framework requires your phone to be rooted, which I'm done doing... to much of a pain when it comes time to update
I'm creating this thread to collect bugs found in the Oreo software that devs can take a look at for their ROMs, and possibly report to HTC depending on importance.
My first bug is cosmetic. The app icons are not consistent at all, and this goes further than the home screen launcher. If you hit the share button, the size of the icons vary, some big and some small.
My second bug is a little more annoying, and I'm not sure how to replicate. I was using Google Maps in and out of PiP mode (I drive Uber, so I come in and out of Maps constantly), and after some extensive switching, the PiP app wouldn't maximize, and my Recent Apps panel would not activate. The actual recents button could still activate multi-window, but it wouldn't cycle through the last two apps or activate the Recents carousel. The behavior returned to normal after a reboot. I am currently stock rooted, but I'm quite certain that has nothing to do with this issue. I will report if this happens again, and pay more attention to any possible causes. I might report this one to HTC.
My third bug is cosmetic, but a little on the annoying side. When switching Bluetooth audio profiles (found in dev options, for those who don't know), the codec that is displayed doesn't change, but you still hear the difference in audio. Also, aptx HD doesn't work for me. When selected, I hear no difference in the sound.
Ok....so my nav buttons are not working, but my home button is still working....am In the only one who is experiencing this? It is very sporadic, and fixes with a reboot.

PIP is not convenient to use now. For example, you can open youtube.com in chrome, request desktop site, play some video in fullscreen, press home button, then you get your PIP feature.
After update my battery reduction too much..
Maybe not exactly bugs, but a few things that bother me are how ugly the icons are and that it's using the default notification sound when I'm on low battery and it plays the notification sound coming in and out of night mode as well. I don't need to be notified with a sound about coming in and out of night mode and I'd prefer the regular buzz buzz sound of the low battery rather than thinking I got a message of something.
I hate the persistent notifications of things running in the background or drawing over... Not a bug, but a 'feature'.

Probably more a feature than a bug, but I miss being able to pull down the notification shade and toggling between Do Not Disturb, Priority Mode, and Normal. Now tapping the icon just turns on Priority Mode. I can't seem to find an easy way to turn on Do Not Disturb without long-pressing the icon. Does anyone else know a better way?

You can turn off the night mode notification. I set it to still show the icon in the top bar but not make a sound. It took a while to find, and I forget where it is. Maybe the notification settings for the system app.
When the screen is off and you double click the power button to access camera, it will not pop up with a preference choice (assuming you have more than one camera installed) unless you time it exactly with putting your fingerprint on the scanner
My shortcut options when you long press an icon are completely gone on every launcher.
Edit: Suddenly works. Odd.
