Hi guys,
I flashed 5.0 over the weekend and the .33/84 hybrid modem to enable LTE. I also made Google Search my home launcher.
The issue is screen becomes black, just showing the status bar and navigation bar. The system bar and navigation buttons are responsive and i can access the notification drawer/system panel but tapping on them does not remove the black screen. The only way to fix it appears to be a reboot. It started out intermittently but now it's happening within just a few minutes of each reboot.
I've tried clearing cache partition from (stock) recovery but it doesn't seem to have helped.
Thanks in advance!
The pattern I've started to notice is that it happens when I get some sort of popup. For instance I use handcent for SMS and half the timeI get a text I end up getting the black screen. I just got a Facebook message and I'd imagine the little circle that shows up on the screen caused it this time.
I've gotten the black screen a couple of times over the last few days since installing 5.0 using the factory image. All that can be seen are the navigation and status bars and there is no touch screen response at all, only a reboot solves the issue. I never saw this happen at all before upgrading.
Have you tried using the .33/1.04 Hybrid modems? I have been using them since they released and never had this happen when using Messenger or Textra and getting pop-ups.

I haven't tried that modem. I've even returned back to the stock modem that came with the 5.0 image and am still having the same issue. Do you have a link to the .33/1.04 modem? Thanks

Honestly, if it does that with the stock modems, I would reflash the factory images clean, then use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/4-4-3-nexus-4-lte-lte-tethering-hotspot-t2416822

Just reflashed 5.0 and seems to be going okay so far (haven't seen the issue). Is it okay to just flash the hybrid modem without using the rest of the LTE enabler? I don't mind having to manually select the network after every reboot...

Yes, this is still happening and I'm just using the stock modem(not hybrid). I've also reflashed the factory image 3 times. I get the black screen at least once a day, sometimes only icons or folders or widgets disappear.
Im struggling with the same problem.
Stock 5.0 google image / With some other kernels / Even tried recent Rastapop. - Wiped System/cache/data, didnt help.
Also i have problem with connecting phones storage via USB. I can Barely access internal storage thru computer.
possible solution
Since I deactivated the app called "Tasker" my phone works just fine again... Plus that I deinstalled two other apps that required superuser rights.
Hope that helps others.
Still having this issue, even on 5.0.1 any ideas?
Okay I *think* I may have figured out the problem. I think it has to do with apps that try to enable/disable the lockscreen. I had Settings Profiles set to disable/enable my lockscreen based on location. I've just removed that setting and so far it looks like the problem may be gone.
I don't think this is a modem issue. If you Google "lollipop black screen" you'll get quite a few hits. I remember reading something last week about this bug affecting lollipop builds.
I'd say stick with the modem that makes you happy :good:
Stock modem and rooted on 5.0.1 and I have the same issue. In my case it is not random and only occurs specifically when I dial the phone from the Avast Mobile Security website (There is a test mode to call the phone). Not sure how they dial into the phone but the screen goes black with only the notification bar on top and navigation buttons on bottom. The notification bar works but the navigation buttons do nothing until the incoming phone call ends, at which time everything returns back to normal. Regular incoming phone calls do not exhibit this behavior. Now if I access the phone from the Avast website by entering a text message instead of a phone call, a pop-up appears on my phone along with my message, but it does not cause the screen to go black.

Hum, sounds like it could be what I am experiencing...possibly a pop-up interfering with the phone call screen.
EDIT: (SOLVED). After contacting Avast via their forum, it turns out that they are doing this on purpose. It is supposed to prevent a thief from ending the call, although that is as simple as restarting the device.
Hi there, I had my phone for about 5 or 6 months where it was fine till recently.
The problem was that I am unable to turn the wifi on. in the main settings the slider is greyed out and a text is on screen saying turning on WIFI but it does not. it does not even show the list of networks. it quick settings it shows as searching but nothing is listed.
in the about phone settings it shows the mac address to be 02:00:00:00:00:00.
This occurred a few days ago but no new software was installed the most recent being a week before to the April security update.
I have tried multiple things such as turning on the airplane mode then off, switching phone on or off, safe mode, factory reset, wiping the cache, taking the sim out.
There has been instances where I am able to connect to a wifi network but it does not last long (few mins) except when taking the sim out which lasted about half a day. (tried again but did not work)
My phone is not rooted and has the stock rom.
There has been some research on this matter where people have done something with the presist(I think that is what it is call) folder but there was no result on it so I have not tried it due to wanted to keep the phone unrooted due to warranty concerns.
I would love some solutions in figuring out this problem.
Thank you for your time.

This problem is exactly what happened to me also, since two days ago. I was searching for a solution and found this thread. Can anyone here who had this problem share how they fixed the issue? is it really a hardware problem?
Thanks!
Most of the time, my Note 7 is instantly responsive no matter how heavily loaded it is.
Every few hours, though, it gets into a mode with serious UI-feedback lag. In this mode, when I tap any key or icon, the corresponding click-and-vibration feedback is delayed by up to one or two seconds. Often I can type several characters with no feedback, followed a second later by a rapid-fire sequence of the delayed clicks and vibrations.
When the phone is in lag mode, the lag occurs in all apps and with both keyboards I've tried (Samsung and Google). And it's not just during typing; tapping on any icon produces the same lag. Lag mode is not fixed by closing all apps, turning on Airplane mode, clearing the clipboard, switching to a different keyboard app, or clearing the keyboard cache or data. (Clearing the clipboard did seem to fix the problem on one occasion, but not subsequently.)
Rebooting the phone does fix the problem--until it comes back again a few hours later. I've tried booting into recovery and clearing the system cache, but the problem still comes back in a few hours. I have not had time to try a factory reset. But the phone is completely stock (APH1), no power-saving turned on, no debloating or esoteric settings or apps.
As I said above, most of the time the phone doesn't have this problem, no matter how many apps are running. And when the lag occurs, the phone is not hot and is not draining the battery. So it's not a matter of the phone being overloaded; rather, it's a specific bug in the UI feedback.
The problem arises at seemingly random times. I have not noticed any pattern as to what triggers it.
Here's a video demonstrating the problem, both for typing and for icon-tapping:
https://vid.me/iYya
And just for contrast, here's a video of the phone when it's working properly, with no UI-feedback delay:
https://vid.me/GF82
Again, when the phone is in lag-mode, it lags in all apps, for typing and for all icon-taps, etc. The videos show only one particular app for illustration.

I exactly have the same issue u clearly described above. My phone lags intermittently and no matter what I do, it doesn't go away. After some time, magically it comes back to normal.
Not sure how to fix this.. very frustrating!

Same thing for me as well. I've heard whispers it's an AT&T thing. Been trying to fix by turning off Battery Optimizer for certain apps and using package disabled. I've noticed it's most consistently caused by locking and unlocking again within a specific time window. Like if you're using the phone, then you put it to sleep, and come back within about 10 min, it does it's lag mode.
If anyone who's having this specific UI-lag problem tries a factory reset, please report whether or not the problem comes back after that.
I did the factory reset multiple times but it didn't solve the lag issue..

After the factory reset, did you restore using backups (e.g., smart switch, directly transferring SD card) or did you set up as a new phone. I was having very bad lag. I used Smart Switch the first time. After a factory reset and rebuilding from scratch (without Smart Switch) my lag problem is gone. There is some discussion of this over at Android Central.

Thanks. That's disappointing but important to know, both diagnostically and also to save everyone else the effort of duplicating the attempt.
I'd be very curious to see if an unlocked (no AT&T bloat) N7 has the same issue on AT&T. If I get a N7, I'm hoping to wait until unlocked versions become available.
I have the same problem. It's the only thing I don't like about the phone. Hopefully they will update it soon.
All samsung phones has that. A new custom rom will fix it.
Same problem, sprint... Stock, TouchWiz. Switched to nova and it doesn't seem to have helped much.
I'm finding the problem may be gone. It hasn't shown up in the last 48 hours (compared to several times a day up until then).
There's nothing I'm aware of doing differently now, other than having turned off Report Diagnostic Info in Settings|General Management. I'm skeptical that that has anything to do with the reversal (but not quite skeptical enough to try turning it back on just yet).
Perhaps the improvement is due to an app update, or perhaps it's a delayed effect of clearing the system cache (though the problem did crop up once or twice after the cache-clearing, before it stopped occurring). Has anyone else seen the problem go away?
UPDATE: The feedback-lag returned after about 60 hours. Again, no obvious trigger. Very annoying.
Hi guys,
I am having similar issues. Most of the times the UI is pretty smooth, but intermittently it starts lagging, opening apps takes 1-2 secs and scrolling the pages isnt smooth, its very annoying esp considering the device is barely few days old. Need some fix to this, or its a dead investment!

Wait, are you talking about the same feedback problem that this thread is about? Taking a second to load an app isn't necessarily unreasonable. But a one-second lag for haptic feedback defeats the whole purpose of the feedback and is clearly a bug.

What i mean is that the lag isnt just restricted to feedback, the phone seems to stutter overall, scrolling on pages and apps is jittery. And this is noticeable since when it doesn't occur the phone is buttery smooth! I tried the google now launcher and it still persists. Turning the animations to 0.5x didnt help either.
Oh ok. Yeah, I'm using the Google Now launcher too. For me, the lag problem disappeared about 58 hours ago though. Just out of curiosity, do you have Report Diagnostic Info enabled in Settings|General Management?
UPDATE: The lag came back after about 60 hours.
Just for completeness, I should mention that after the phone went into lag mode, I also tried turning haptic/audio feedback off and then back on. But the lag did not stop.
Since about July 2017 my G-900v has gone bad and gets stuck on the Verizon loading screen. I am talking this has been at least 4 times. This last time yesterday a factory reset would not get it going again and I had to find a firmware (G900VVRS2DQA1_G900VVZW2DQA1_G900VVRS2DQA1_HOME) and load that with Odin. Admittedly it really seems to be working better than before and I think it was running the previous firmware when it was freezing up. Was there known issues with the other firmware? I am not certain what the build version was.
I have 2 batteries and have tried both during the freeze up. Neither make a difference. And the freeze up always happens at night during charging. After the update earlier this year it was prone to sudden reboots and applications stopped working errors. Also the emoji icons had stopped working and would cause keyboard crashes on all keyboard apps. Can having a large amount of photos saved on the SD card lead to such issues?
What is the best known way to back up and restore my handset if this continues to happen? I am tired of having to DL and customize my apps every time this happens.
Some but not all of my apps
Go SMS Pro
My Work Clock
Instagram
FB Messenger
Facebook
SnapChat
C4Yourself
DoubleMaps
Beautiful Widgets
SeekDroid
Western Union
LookOut Mobile
Screen Off Lock
Removed
WiFi Advisor
Network Analyzer
AVG
What default apps should I disable?
Thanks for any help or insight on this.
Do you have the link to the firmware you used? Mine is stuck on the Verizon logo screen after doing a factory reset and I want to flash a good stock firmware on it via Odin.
Pretty sure it was from here.
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G900V/region/VZW/
I followed the guide here http://www.**********.com/install-stock-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-on-verizon-galaxy-s5-sm-g900v/
There WERE bugs in the Samsung keyboard back in the day, that have supposedly been patched up in recent times. Depending on the age of the installed firmware, it could be an issue.
After updating my Moto G5 Plus to Android Oreo 8.1, I am facing many issues with it. Some of them which I noticed so far are-
1. Fingerprint scanner stops working occasionally: It doesn't respond at all sometimes. I had to restart my phone every time to make it work again.
2. Wi-Fi connectivity is not stable: It gets disconnected from Wi-Fi networks very often.
3. Turbo charging is not working: The fast charging is not fast. It takes longer than usual to charge my phone's battery after the update.
4. It's slow: It has become slow after the update. Very slow in responses. Even deleting a text message takes 10 seconds.
Do we have fix for these issues?

Which ROM version did you update to?
Mine is nothing like this, that's strange. But, my Whatsapp has now a bug, I can't take photos inside a chat anymore, the camera just doesn't shoot. I have to open the Cam app normally, take a photo and then attach it to the conversation.

This is a well documented issue with the Lineage 15.1 Oreo ROM, at least on my Samsung tablet. Makes me wonder if it's a bug in the Oreo code.
