anything else break? Worth the update?
Worth the update, nothing breaks, Magisk works fine. You can flash the full zip in twrp, then flash Magisk, and you won't even lose twrp.
Works fine for me. I've never tried manual flashing oos, but everytime my phone updates it loses twrp. Just reflash twrp, flash magisk and you're all set. I do this every time my phone updates

I've had my 6P since Nov of 15, and I have always run it with a stock rom that is rooted. I've used Heisenberg's guide since day one, and never run into any considerable trouble.
Today though, after not updating the rom for a while, I am running into two issues. I went from angler nmf26f to the most current one, n2g47o.
Thing 1 - after I install twrp through fastboot, I can load into it and everything is fine. However, after I reboot, I can no longer load it again. When I go into the bootloader and select Recovery, after a few moments I get a screen saying 'No command'
I have reinstalled twrp a few times but it has done nothing to help.
Thing 2 - Root is no longer working. I have installed the newest SuperSU through twrp and while the app is present on the phone, it says root undetected.
Any of you folks run into anything similar? The phone/rom works fine otherwise. Thanks!
I had the same issue from 7.0 and forward. SUpersu causes a bootloop even on a fresh rom. You could give Magisk a try it worked for me at least.

Have you made sure to update your radio, bootloader and vendor to the most recent version? Make sure to also try flashing twrp again but do everything through fastboot flash commands on your pc.

Flash root in TWRP before your first boot into the stock rom. On Nougat 7.0+, stock recovery replaces TWRP on boot if you do not. This solves both of your problems. When you clean flash and install a custom rom, with or without root, TWRP will remain. If you just use stock unrooted, then you should flash root before first boot each month when you update.

SuperSu 2.80 & 2.81 broke root for most phones - including mine. I had to flash 2.79 SR3 to get root again. Chainfire released 2.82 this morning but I haven't tried it yet.

If you boot to twrp first time mount system and use the filemanager to delete recovery-from-boot.p under system. Use magisk instead of supersu for root.
So i followed the unlock and root guide. So far so good. Then i saw an update to magisk today. But updating didn't work neither through the app or twrp. error 1.
But now i can't even flash an older version or supersu. So now i'm stuck at the bootloader, flashing twrp works, but from there root fails.
What to do?
Oh, and why magisk over supersu ?
What version of Magisk to you flash originally?
What version did you updated to?

14 to 14.2. And uninstalling and reflashing did nothing, then both failed. Supersu fails too. Wiping and reflashing stock works. But flashing 14.2 fails again. 14 worked. Tried uninstalling and flash supersu 2.82 but it failed again.
Edit: If i wipe first and then flash supersu it seemed to work.

Just keep 14.0, 14.2 is a beta so it's normal it could lead to some problems
14 is latest. 14.2 is beta. Don't use this.
Magisk is better than SuperSU. Hide root on apps and is systemless. Personally I think it's better.
Yes, get rid of SuperSu. Magisk has root built in so no need for an additional install to root.
I used Magisk on my Nexus 6P. Great functionality.
I have the Lg G6 but haven't found a need to run Magisk since now I can get most stuff without root.
I installed update and now can no longer do Safetynet the option is missing in Magisk.
Also the wifi and modem does not work either. This only happened after updating to the new OTA.
Maybe This Will Help:

So i just got the phone three days ago but maybe try rebooting your phone to TWRP or if you don't have it installed on your recovery go to a computer and launch ADB, what you want to do is temp boot into TWRP then sideload Magisk again.
To make things easier:
=============================
1. Boot into TWRP (Either through recovery or ADB)
2. Get your yourself the stock boot.img to clear things up on Magisk's end.
3. Sideload your Magisk zip.
4. Clear cache and dalvik cache
5. Reboot the phone.
If you don't flash a stock.img of the current OOS you are on safetynet may fail but reinstalling Magisk through TWRP should fix your safetynet issue. As far as WIFI goes try flashing the modem.img file for your current OOS version, this might do the trick but i am not so sure as this is my first time using a oneplus device.
Hope i have helped you out. Don't take OTAs, they break root as an OTA is just for stock OOS with no root so there is no support for rooted devices when it comes to these updates.
Edit: Try this if it doesn't work https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/9-0-7-patched-magisk-boot-img-t3875498

How do you install ota when rooted?

I uninstalled magisk, did the regular OTA update, do not reboot, then install Magisk again on the inactive slot.
Ok fixed the problem I was having.. I had to do a complete factory wipe after installing Magisk. It's now working and I am using Oneplus Switch to restore my data backup now.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.
So I'm running the 03/25/2019 Lineage OS microG build for my OP5, it is Android Pie and I have the latest codeworkxx TWRP 03/11/2019 and PIE firmware.
When flashing the rom (clean install) I decided to go unencrypted this time so I used the following force encryption disable zip found bellow after I clean flashed/installed the rom...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389
...followed by flashing magisk right after. Everything worked, LOS PIE is installed and unencrypted/rooted perfectly.
Problem I am having is that now when I try and install the weekly builds through the Android OS updater, it does it's thing, reboots to recovery, installs the update, magisks then re-installs through the survival addon.d script but then the phone just gets stuck into a bootloop. While reading the install messages in TWRP it does mention that magisk is removing dm-verity for what it's worth.
Does this have something to do with magisk or the LOS ROM having an "encrypted kernel" by default and how I am installing an encrypted kernel/update over an unencrypted phone? Or is this some issue with magisk?
Does this mean if I want to flash weekly updates while keeping unencrypted status I will have to dirty flash them by downloading the zip, manually placing it in my storage, booting to recovery, flashing, then flashing the encryption disable zip again and finally Magisk instead of of just pressing a button in the Android OS updater?
Luckily I restored successfully from a backup but I'm wondering is I screwed myself over here setting up my rom without encryption. Never had this issue updating with the weekly builds when my phone was encrypted.
What do you guys think?
Alright well I managed to update my ROM without bootlooping, just like I thought instead of being able to use the built in OS update manager that does everything for you I have to manually download/transfer file to my phone, flash rom update, flash force encryption disable zip and then magisk again.
While this is an alright workaround for now, is there anyway to regain the stock updating functionality built into the rom while remaining unencrypted and having it NOT bootloop my phone each time? What if I want to use addonSU instead of Magisk, I don't think the disable encryption zip works unless you flash Magisk right after unless I have to update the rom, flash the disable zip, flash magisk, remove magisk and then use addonSU.
Hi! I wanted to switch from Pixel Experience back to stock, I flashed V10.0.11.0 using the official fastboot image (I used flash_all.bat). However, when I try to install the August update using OTA, it always fails for no reason. I had TWRP and Magisk installed with Pixel Experience, but reflashing everything should have deleted those. Also, I didn't flash Magisk or TWRP. I didn't even boot temporary TWRP - everything should be completely stock, but the OTA still fails. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: Curiously, Google Play shows that my device is not certified. How the hell is my phone still not considered stock? I tried reflashing multiple times, and even locking the bootloader, but the OTA still fails, and the phone is still not certified!
