So i just got the phone three days ago but maybe try rebooting your phone to TWRP or if you don't have it installed on your recovery go to a computer and launch ADB, what you want to do is temp boot into TWRP then sideload Magisk again.
To make things easier:
=============================
1. Boot into TWRP (Either through recovery or ADB)
2. Get your yourself the stock boot.img to clear things up on Magisk's end.
3. Sideload your Magisk zip.
4. Clear cache and dalvik cache
5. Reboot the phone.
If you don't flash a stock.img of the current OOS you are on safetynet may fail but reinstalling Magisk through TWRP should fix your safetynet issue. As far as WIFI goes try flashing the modem.img file for your current OOS version, this might do the trick but i am not so sure as this is my first time using a oneplus device.
Hope i have helped you out. Don't take OTAs, they break root as an OTA is just for stock OOS with no root so there is no support for rooted devices when it comes to these updates.
Edit: Try this if it doesn't work https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/9-0-7-patched-magisk-boot-img-t3875498

How do you install ota when rooted?

I uninstalled magisk, did the regular OTA update, do not reboot, then install Magisk again on the inactive slot.
Ok fixed the problem I was having.. I had to do a complete factory wipe after installing Magisk. It's now working and I am using Oneplus Switch to restore my data backup now.

[Q] Magisk Root

Has anyone been able to get magisk to work appropriately? I attempted and the magisk apk kept fc'ing. I read about LG devices needing a boot.img "bump". Is this true or has anyone got it working in their own way?
There Is no root method for variants that don't have a unlocked bootloader. You would know this if you read the forums before asking

So, quite frankly, if you read, another user has it working. Further more, with the TMO variant, I do have an unlocked bootloader. Root application works with magisk, however the APK itself fc's.
I thought cowboys were polite ; )
I misread your post thought you were the typical person asking for a update on root I apologize.

I have the H918/tmo and I was able to get magisk running with phh's superuser. I'm kinda iffy on magisk-hide, as i had issues with it initially ( random reboots with it enabled). I turned off magisk hide for about a week, then turned it back on last night with no reboots since.. but haven't tested it with apps.
After running the easy recowvery + root script, i got rid of SuperSU. I believe all i did was a Full Unroot in the options, with no changes to the recovery. (I also may have done a format /data when rebooting to recovery again, but i dont recall fully, so take that into consideration if it didnt work at first (followed by the no-verity-opt-encrypt zip).)
After getting rid of SuperSU/su binary, what i remember doing was:
1 ) Flash magisk v9.zip -> reboot to system to make sure it boots, then adb reboot recovery.
2 ) Flash phh's superuser r266-2.zip -> reboot to system
3 ) install magisk manager via apk, and phh's superuser via playstore.
4 ) test out root.
has anyone been able to get Phh's superuser to work on the Sprint v20 / LS997 ?? If so, how? Thanks in advance.
If you can't get this working there is an app called RootSwitch. It can successfully hide root on the V20 with a toggle.

ive got 1 working and 1 in testing that uses magisk and phh.
the phh superuser seems to be casusing the systemui to force close often when in hide mode and the random reboots and loss of service, otherwise it was working fine.
but yeah, just flash version 10.2 on your current rom and see what happens!
btw this was on DEC sec patch, on oct builds i never tried it, but this is latest DEC sofware, didnt even use rootswitch

Tried RootSwitch w/ SuperSU. Didn't pass SafetyNet if that's what you were referring to.
Tried it again last night. Had the 1st 3 options turned on. Soon as I opened Android Pay my phone hot booted and got stuck on the VZW splash screen. Had to pull the battery. Won't try that again with supersu.
I have a VS995 this is how I got my phone to finally take magisk and pass the safetynet check. I'm running software version VS99513A I performed dirty santa to get unlocked bootloader and root access. Now I tried to uninstall supersu threw the app and I got a failed message. I tried going into recovery and flashing the supersu unistaller and that would fail. I tried flash magisk v12.0 and keep getting error message. I got stock in twrp recovery several times and used LGUP and flash either VS99512A KDZ or the VS99513A KDZ. Am not a developer but it seemed as if the boot.img won't take by the magisk zip. Those where my failed attempts for about a week or two. Now on to the success story
Performed Dirty Santa on software version VS99513A. I decide to flash modstock kernaI update v1.1 because it seem to work well with a stock rooted VS995. I flashed busy box in recovery and downloaded the app and also downloaded quick reboot so I could reboot into recovery easier. After reading @poixninja thread on modstock kernal - stocked with goodies he mention flash a boot.img that was patched with magisk. So I but the phone into fastboot mode and flashed his boot.img onto the phone with cmd (command prompt). I think I might have tried to uninstall supersu threw the app and I think it didn't work after flash the boot.img. So I put the phone into recovery mode the to wipe and then to advance wipe and clear dalvik and cache. After that I went to install and flashed the supersu unistaller and it took. After flashing I wipe the cache that twrp ask after most flashes. I then rebooted into recovery to make sure my twrp was not affected because I had and issue with that in previous supersu unistaller attempts. Rebooted ito twrp recovery then rebooted into system. I think whenever I flashed the verzion logo stayed up longer than normal but the phone fully started up. I clicked on supersu and it said no root access. Turned of the phone and did the steps to get to recovery mode. Once in I first wiped dalvik and cache. Then I flashed magisk unistaller and it went threw with no issue. I wiped dalvik and cache then rebooted into recovery. After getting into recovery I rebooted to system.
Sidenote: I recommend after wiping supersu and flashing magisk unistaller. Once you boot up install magisk apk. I didn't install the apk until after I flashed the magisk v12.0 in recovery. I noticed when I reboot the magisk icon was on the phone but when I clicked it it said go to playstore to download. I had the magisk manager apk on my SD card so I just installed it. The install to longer than normal I think it was because I didn't install it prior to flash the zip in recovery. I didn't get a chance to verify it yet.
Once the phone boot and I installed the magisk app manager I open it up and got green checks for installed magisk v12 and properly rooted. I went to setting and turned on enable busy box, magisk hide, and systemless. But when I clicked safetynet I got cts mismatch. Did some research and read on other XDA magisk thread that it maybe because of custom roms, modified kernals and possible supersu somewhere on the system. The only root accessible apps I had installed during this process was busybox and quick reboot. I did notice the first time I ran quick reboot after getting magisk it did give it root access then it did after I opened it again.
I decide to uninstall quick reboot and busy box. I uninstalled both apps. I rebooted into recovery mode the manual way. First thing I did was wipe dalvik and cache. Then I flashed busy box uninstaller. When the flash was running I say in the command lines that it found supersu. Which I thought was odd so I also flashed supersu unistaller. I rebooted into recovery wipe dalvik and cache and flashed uninstall magisk. Then reboot into recovery. I ran busy box uninstaller one more time to see if it would pick up supersu again and the command lines did not mention it. I flashed back magisk v12.0 rebooted into recovery. Then rebooted into system
Opened magisk went to setting to turn on enable busy box, magisk hide and systemless. Check safetnet and failed I found a magisk XDA thread that talks about common issue. It said I had to check magisk core only mode. Once I did that he requested a reboot which I did. Once back up I first cleared in app manager under show system I cleared all data for google play store, google play service for instant app, google play services. I opened magisk clicked safetynet check and I passed it. I went to search for netflix in play store and it pop up I installed it and it working fine so far. I tried logging into snapchat and I got threw.
Hope this maybe help full to anyone having issues

If I may be so bold, I played around with the rooting process on mine (I have a VS995 on 13A, too), and found a much easier (and possibly cleaner?) way to do this. Of course, the way I'm about to suggest would require a full KDZ to stock and a factory reset...
Here's mine:
Follow this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/lgv20-vs995-verizon-aio-post-06-19-2017-t3624326
Note: For noobs: After step 13, it's a bit misleading, because it doesn't boot DIRECTLY into TWRP, but boots to the white-screen "stock" recovery. The trick is to tell it "Yes" to both reset prompts. (It doesn't actually reset your stuff.) After this, it will take you to the TWRP menu.
When you get to step 14E, DO NOT FLASH SuperSU!
Instead, flash the ReStock zip.
After flashing ReStock, follow step 14G, and then flash Magisk 13.3 (latest stable, haven't tested others) from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
I tried this out of order a couple of other times and ended up either having Magisk not following through with install, or developing issues installing certain apps. (Either getting a -504 error from Play Store, or having valid APKs reply that they were "corrupt" when directly installing.)
Of course, all of the stereotypical disclaimers apply-- YMMV, and I'm not responsible if you brick your device, yadda yadda...
No offense, intended, sentra10550. While I'm glad you managed to get things working, the directions were a bit convoluted and I hope my humble findings might help yourself, in the future(?), and any others that may have a VS995.
Good luck, everybody!
)O( NeoHiPPy )O(
Think I'll wait until an easier method comes out for the VS995 to run Magisk lol..
I was UNABLE to do full unroot on my V20 from SuperSu settings menu. It would say "uninstallation failed"
I tried running UPDATE-unSU.zip from TWRP and it did not help. Magisk keeps on complaining about modified boot file.
I am unlocking boot loader, trying to flash Magisk in TWRP instead of SuperSu as per DirtyStanta root method instructions.
I will also flash restock 1.3 right after to stop static and vibration issue.
If it works, ill update my post.
---------- Post added 21st February 2018 at 12:28 AM ---------- Previous post was 20th February 2018 at 11:48 PM ----------
Ok i got it working. It was easier then i thought it would be.
These are the steps i did the very first time i got into TWRP after bootloaded unlock process as per DirtySanta rooting instructions.
Entered TWRP
DID NOT format data>yes
Installed Restock1.3 and Magisk.zip
Wipe cache and dalvik. Says Failed to wipe Dalvik (dont know why but what ever)
Reboot.
Result: Asking for unlock password 9 attempts left. So i have to Format Data>Yes
Re-entered TWRP
Format Data>yes
Reboot.
Root works. No SuperSu needed.
Conclusion:
You have to format DATA not for the root to work, but to be able to get into the phone. If there was a way to bypass that, there would be no need to factory reset to root. Root method would not require you to wipe the phone.
How ever, some apps that i use still do not support systemless root. They fail to do their work such as removing system apps. I cant remove any of my system apps for some reasons. I get "failed" messageevery time.
I was told i need modules for Magisk, but i have yet understood what that even means.
Other apps that use root, work fine. Such as AdAway.org

ZE520kl OTA upgrade doesn't work

Hi,
I've downgraded my phone ZE520KL couple months ago but I've forgotten that VOLTE is only available on 7.0...
I've recieved the OTA notification, downloaded the package on the phone, but when it reboots it is going on TWRP & then if I'm rebooting it doesn't continue the upgrade process.
What am I missing? (on my previous phones this wasn't so tricky...) Should I use the Install method directly from TWRP? If Yes on which zip? Is it possible to find the one that I've downloaded directly with my phone?

Same like me before. Have you rooted your phone yet? if yes then try this, it work for me though (Backup your phone is recommended)
1. Download busybox, supersu and no-verity file
2. Using flashfire app, choose flash zip or ota option
3. Add ota 'WW-ZE520Kl-.....'
4. Add firmware 'UL-ASUS-....'
5. Remove tickmark from 'Inject supersu'
And flash, it will reboot but do not boot to system. You must boot to twrp, flash no-verity file, busybox and supersu or your phone will not boot. Then reboot, done.
If this method is helpful, do reply to me
Btw, sorry for my poor english.

Thanks, works wonderfully! Flashfire flashed the new OTAs successfully but the phone didn't then boot (or it bootlooped). A quick Google search led me to your response and the dm-verity file fixed the boot!
I also didn't flash Busybox in case you needed to know and before flashing the OTAs I checked the "Automount" and "Mount systeam as R/W" in Flashfire otherwise the app would just get stuck in a blank screen.
EDIT: WiFI isn't working, tried already deleting the files in /data/misc/wifi, /persist and /data/misc/dhcp as suggested in various threads but still nothing. Anyone know how to fix it before I attempt to do a full backup and wipe?

Deleting files in /data/misc is not helped. Try this:
1. Check your selinux permissive or enforcing. If permissive, you should re-root your phone. Remember to flash busybox too or it will may some crash. Still not working follow step 2.
2. Re-flash the ROM using twrp. No data will be lost. Don't forget to re-root or it will not boot.
3. Try the lastest fw .68 or .75 though someone told that the .28 ota file had issue on wifi.

Reflashing through TWRP worked Although I did it after backing up all the apps and did a factory reset which didn't even fix the wi-fi problem. But then Flashfire is useless if TWRP is capable of flashing OTAs right?

Not really. Since OTA file can't flash through twrp. It really annoying for someone (like me ), so for the easiest way is just flash it using Flashfire, no need to use computer to flash stock recovery .

Yeah that's what I encountered aswell back 2-3 years ago, I remember I couldn't flash any OTAs via TWRP but apparently now you can. That's why I also used Flashfire in the first place but after running out of all options for the wi-fi problem I decided to give TWRP a try et voilà, it worked

I JUST did it....on 1711.75 now. There was no recovery partition update either so I didn't have to reflash TWRP after :good:
I did have a bootloop issue after but fixed that by flashing the no-verity file. I'm not sure if that's related to having magisk installed though.

1. After reflashing rom through twrp, i lost my twrp. Oh, but when i use Flasfire, it isn't lost.
2. Not sure but after flashing ROM your boot will change to normal so it may not related to magisk or supersu. Maybe it beacause of the twrp, i've tried reflash stock recovery once and i can updated it without flash no-verity file though i've installed magisk.

1. You will only lose TWRP if there is a recovery partition update in the stock firmware, yes, but that doesn't happen with every update. I think I read of a way to block it from updating the recovery partition but can't find the article right now. If flashfire works, use it, I just like TWRP for the other features like making and restoring nandroid backups.
2. I dirty flashed the update again through TWRP, verified the bootloop issue and then installed magisk (through TWRP) and it resolved the bootloop issue. No-verify file not required.

1.Ok, i got it.
2. The way using TWRP is keep the root ( root or not boot) and stock recovery is contrary ( can't root but will boot) or just flash custom kernel through twrp (not root required).
simple question :
- you are talking about OTA & Firmware...
I've downloaded again from asus website Version WW-V14.2020.1711.75 (I assume it is the latest firmware). Are you simply giving the example of an OTA that is released post the firmware version I have to install to have the 7.0 base?
Or is it anything that I'm missing...
From your explanations I should only :
- install flashfire
- flash the latest firmware
- boot into TWRP & flash no verity
- reboot the system
Right?

Yep, you can also flash the latest .zip via TWRP instead of using Flashfire, it's 100% working for me. Just REMEMBER to flash the no-verity file otherwise you'll end up in a bootloop.
I have newest oreo fw from asus website. Ive unlocked bootloader with official app. Now i want WTRP and root with magisk. I want to know how to flash updates to get all wroking?
1. Flash TWRP via fastboot?

The safest and true way to flash any ota update without any issues by using stock recovery, don't use twrp or flashfire or any other apps.
follow the steps below:
1. When you are rooted and twrp installed, to getback to full stock boot and recovery without wiping data, flash the latest raw image available. For oreo the latest available one for ze520kl is WW_ZE520KL_15.0410.1712.31_M3.10.47.16_Phone-user.raw.zip.
2. Now flash the ota update available normally via stock recovery.
3. Flash oreo support twrp-3.2.1-0 and magisk zip.
4. Done.
I'm periodically upload the latest available ota update for ze520kl in the ze520kl ota update links thread.
Here is the latest one.

Issue with Magisk and OTA version 7.1.2

I am having issues getting an OTA with Magisk 15.2 installed. MAgisk Manager is 5.5.3.
1. I did a flash of fastboot rom for the first december update of 7.1.2 without overwriting storage.
2. I unlocked the bootloader
3. I booted (did not flash) to 3.1.1 of TWRP and loaded Magisk 15.2. Everything worked fine.
4. I followed this guide https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tips.md#ota-installation-tips and went Magisk Manager → Uninstall → Restore Stock Boot. I received a confirmation that the stock boot was restored. However, at this point, my google camera still works. This seems illogical if the stock boot is replaced.
5. When I download the second december OTA update I get a failure to install error at step 2 of 2.
Has anyone had similar issues or have solution? If I post to the Magisk threads, what logs will they require and how specifically must I create the logs and where will they be stored?
I didn't get a reply here. Mod, please delete this post. I will add it at Magisk thread.
Oh, wow. I have also installed magisk in the way you have. I hope it hasn't messed with your system. However I'm fully updated so have no way of trying your method of OTA.
Please update me if you do solve your issue incase I also have similar difficulties.
It is no major issue, it is just a pain in the butt to have to flash the fastboot rom to update... It take 15 minutes and a PC if you can't get OTA...
I'm just lazy.

4. restore boot image function will reflash stock boot.img to boot partition, but until reboot you are still using patched_boot.img which is loaded in memory. So you will not lose root access and all Magisk modules work (until reboot).
5. failed update could be due to tampered system partition (it is enough to mount it as RW in TWRP). Reflash fastboot images without data erase and do not modify system in any way afterwards.

Thanks for the detailed reply.. this is the thing that confuses me. The Magical guide clear states to not reboot the phone after uninstalling the patched boot.. so how can the ota possibly pass?

OTA updater verifies system and boot partition (possibly other partitions too) - if they are intact, it applies the OTA patch to unused, secondary partitions. OTA updator doesn't care if your currently running boot image is patched or not, because it's not using files from RAM, but from ROM. Once update finishes its thing (stage 2/2), you install Magisk in backup boot partition, which after reboot becomes active. This is why it's possible to apply OTA while you're rooted with Magisk and you have A/B partition system (as long as you follow the guide).

P2XL OTA + Magisk install before reboot = keep root

Didn't see anyone else confirming that the Magisk OTA install works with Android 10, so... confirming that it does.
Let OTA finish but don't reboot.
Go to Magisk Manager and "Install" Magisk - select the bottom option (includes the OTA phrase)
Reboot
Profit.
No problems noticed in a half-day of use.
Did you do this from Pie or from Android Q beta? Also, did you uninstall Magisk from the manager before you did the OTA?
Anybody know if this worked smoothly with their Viper4Android app?
This worked form me going from Android 9 with Magisk to Android 10
I'm glad I waited and saw this before moving to Android 10. This worked like a charm for me as well.

Ota usually gives me error cant install so i flash factory image without (-w) wiping then i reflash kernel and magisk, result is updating to latest image with everything stays at it is

Is your recovery stock? It may not be clearly stated as I haven't read the thread in its entirety, but the OTA will fail with TWRP installed. It likely will also fail if the system partition is modified.
EDIT: I re-read your post. You clearly note using TWRP.

Factory image flash via adb using pc, then i boot to twrp and reflash kernel and magisk
Anyone know how to get the native led configuration without using a custom rom or the lightflow app?
Should I update Magisk and manager before I do this?
My Magisk installed is 18.1 and it lists 20.1 as available
Magisk Manager installed is 7.0 and 7.4 is listed as available
If you wanna follow the official instructions :

Yes this also works, this was the procedure i was following before, but i dont have twrp installed in my device, it causes bootloop and device sensors errors idk why so i fastboot it, once i tried updating by flashing ota zip via twrp but device didnt bootup maybe cause twrp is not installed so since that what i do is reflashing factory image without -w

do i have to delete the "-w" command only on the "flash-all.bat" or on the "flash-all.sc" too?

Yes, it is 7.1 MB. Strange.
Wow huge update! My WiFi couldn't cope up with 7.1mb update. Awesome Google ?
Nothing here yet, T-Mobile, Houston.
Edit: received OTA last evening 10/08. I believe the size was 7.4mb.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
yes the ota is 7.1mb, i have root so i tired to uninstall magisk (restoring images) then applying the ota then reinstalling magisk then reboot but didnt work as system update error couldnt install, also tried to boot to twrp then sideload the ota zip but caused problems and was about to lose my data (storage didnt show up in twrp) but i played around and changed boot slot and storage showed up again so i flashed factory image without -w and reflashed magisk and kernel

How did you "reflash magisk and kernel?" Did you boot to system first?

Yes after flashing factory image without wiping, i booted up to system then checked magisk wasnt installed (only manager app), then i fastbooted to twrp recovery flashed custom kernel then flashed magisk and reboot, thats it, and all my magisk settings returned back to what it was like before all this
Can anyone please post the fingerprint for the October build from build.prop?
Much thanks!!

First, YMMV! Make backups, always.
Here's my process. It's worked for me for a good while now. My main goal was to do this all on-device, without using a computer or other ADB source. It assumes you keep TWRP installed.
1. Download the full OTA from Google. This is the one in a recovery flashable package, not the fastboot script one.
2. Download the TWRP installer.
3. Download the latest Magisk installer.
4. Turn off the screen lock. TWRP doesn't like it, and won't see the internal storage elsewise.
5. Boot to TWRP recovery.
6. Install the OTA zip via TWRP. DO NOT REBOOT NOW!
7. Install the TWRP recovery zip.
8. Reboot. I like to let Android boot all the way before I install Magisk. It may not be completely necessary, but I believe you have to switch the A/B slot in TWRP if you don't, before installing.
9. Boot to TWRP recovery again.
10. Install the Magisk zip.
11. Re-enable your security, including re-adding your fingerprints if you use them.
If you want to use an additional computer, just fastboot the full images after removing the "-w" from the bat file, fastboot boot to TWRP, then re-install TWRP (if desired) and Magisk.
Since October patch (rooted) I have massive problems my pc/my phone detecting my phone/my pc. I dont know why, its just charging, one time it worked (I need USB-Tethering) I was just restarting and restarting the phone, turning debugging on/off...
Any idea how to fix this?
edit: It just says unknown usb-device, I manually uninstalled and installed the latest android usb drivers. If I try to use an adb command it just says "error: no devices/emulators found"
Probably the worst security patch. My sensors aren't working properly, phone doesn't go off while i talk. It hangs at odd occasions. Battery is weak. Auto brightness isn't working either
