Hello all,
which of these two would you suggest?
I prefer bigger screen, but since it's only a 0.3 inch difference that's not a big deciding factor.
the most important factor for me is durability, both in terms of software (higher chance for future android updates) and hardware (build quality).
I know the SoC on honor 8 is better, but I don't play games, is the SoC on Nova 2 plus enough for web surfing, youtube, facebook, etc. ?
also battery life is very important.
(don't suggest honor 8 pro, because it's much more expensive in my country. these two are the same price)
please help me decide, i am dying here :crying: :crying:
nova 2 + ::
Metal body ,best cameras f 1.8 ( pictures will be awesome),battery is good backup with 3340 mAh,new Soc have to see wheather it performs well.
Honor 8::
Premium feel , great development(custom oreo is under-desk),decent battery life.good performance, cheap.also we got 2 years policy software update.
i prefer honor 8 over nova 2 +.
choose wisely
If you want battery, then go with Nova 2 plus.
All I can say now is, do a list with the things you want in a phone then, see which fots your needs better
All the best
I think u should go for the Honor 8 rather than the Nova 2 Plus. Obviously it has a greater chance of getting future software updates but considering how much more expensive it is than the Honor 8 it doesn't seem to be worth the money.
It has a Kirin 6xx series processor instead of the 9xx series processor. The 6xx series is a mid ranger processor so the performance will never live up to the Honor 8. It only has A53 cores which are low power cores. Whereas the Honor 8 has both A53 and A72 which means performance will be a lot better. Even in the graphics front the Honor 8 easily outclasses it with a 4 core GPU instead of a 2 core GPU. U might see battery gains thought because of the SOC only running off of A53 cores.
About the camera it won't be a huge upgrade from the Honor 8. It has a selfie camera with 20MP which will definitely be better but in terms of rear cameras it might perform only a little better in low light because of it's f1.8 aperture.
Considering how the processor and GPU is a downgrade and how the camera is only marginally better I think I would go for the Honor 8.
But then again it depends on what u want better performance or better battery life.
I've also attached a full spec comparison below.

Meizu 5 Pro has best processor of Android (Exynos 7420), sd card, nice AMOLED screen with 1080P, great battery (4th on battery life tests this year), and great price also (450 Euros).
But is Meizu....
¿Do you think is a good buy?
Or would be better a Huawei 6P with
Google support for two years and stereo speakers
Better camera and screen
but
Worse battery and processor
No sd
More expensive (200 euros more)
¿Does Meizu give software support with latest Android? ¿Which one you prefer? (you can put other smarthphones on the equation also)
I want to answer your question by comparing both phones in each category.
Design:
I started with design part because, for me it's very important part. I like meizu pro 5 design much more than 6p not saying 6p is not good but, 2.5D glass with looking similar to Iphone in front is not a bad thing in meizu and better than 6p here. I prefer Fingerprint as a home button on meizu at the front much more than in 6p at the back. ( Not to mention how innovative home button of meizu will change the way of using this phone when you getting used to it and you cannot compare it with any other android phone). Also design of meizu at the back is also more beautiful in my opinion as it's a little similar to htc one series. Also 10g less weight in meizu should be a little more suitable in hand.
Camera:
About camera in meizu it does pretty decent job in good light maybe even better than 6p specially better in detail comparison but, in low light you should either use manual mode or accept quality of auto mod which is not bad but, differently 6p is better but, not much better.
Selfie with front camera is definitely better (more detail) in 6p but, for internet both do good job here.
Processor:
The main problem in 6p is qualcomm 810 processor which is a big no for me specially compare to Exynos 7420 which is arguably the best in the market for now (even compare to karin 950) and you will never feel a hot phone in your hand or lag due to hot temperature of cpu and much more energy efficient than Q 810. (Not fan of Antutu benchmarks but, recently Meizu take the crown from Huawei karin 950 chipset in Huawei Mate 8!)
Softwere:
On the other hand meizu apparently is new to world market and cannot support their phone like google but, in future with custom roms it will be okay I think (do not expect near future!) Meizu does not come with unlock bootloader and apparently there is no way to unlock it and it may take so long to either someone manage to unlock it (very difficult + lack off good developers due to less popularity of meizu and the phone itself) or company give us a way to do it so, do not except support of developers or company like 6p. Meizu will definitely upgrade meizu pro 5 to marshmallow but, time is unknown.
Also if you really like pure android experience which I don't! heavily skin of Flyme OS on top of android in meizu may become a big problem for you. Lack of app drawer or design of home screen or even default apps are not a big deal as you can get a good launchers now a day specially with htc sense launcher and apps but, other part like setting menu and notification drawer and etc will be always the flyme one!
Screen
Comparing the screen, there should not be much differences as both phones using very similar amoled technology and panel. Yes 2k vs full hd but, 2k display of 6p is not as good as samsung new flagships like gs6 or note 5. Brightness of both phones are almost similar. I don't think you will notice the differences here in display part in daily usage because, differences of 2k displays are not very recognizable in human eyes in phones bellow 7" screens. But, if it does for you it's just a little more sharper but, not better in contrast, color and etc.
In 6p you will get gorilla glass 4 which is better when you drop the phone and can manage much more pressure here but, not as good as gorilla glass 3 (meizu pro 5) in scratch resistance part. If you use screen protector no problem here for both phones.
Audio:
Yes 6p has dual speaker in front which is more suitable when watching something or listening to musics with speakers but, meizu on the other hand support Hi-Fi audio so, provide much better quality sound specially when you plug a headphone which 6p was unfortunately poor here.
Hardware/Connectivity/Network/Battery:
Lack of memory support is again a big downside of 6p compare to meizu plus 2 sim in meizu vs 1 in 6p (in meizu 2 sim if you don't use sd card) .
For connectivity both doing great and not very different here. You have more 4g bands support in 6p but, if you don't live in USA you will not loose here. Meizu definitely is much better in battery part as you know so, no more words here. Also meizu charge the battery a little faster than 6p specially if you charge 6p with retail charger in it's package which the plug is weaker than meizu fast charger plug. (No need to buy faster plug in meizu).
Okay I don't know if I left anything else and hope it helps you to choose the best option but, personally I will choose meizu here as you mention the price of 6p I don't think it wrote 200 euro more just for a little better camera, speaker and screen VS it's downs. But, if you cannot live without latest version of android and faster support of google or with Flyme OS of meizu better to go for 6p. ( The only real downside of meizu compare to 6p currently before unlocking the bootloader of pro 5)

If you look at the prices, i will go for Letv Lemax, the most powerful android phone, that will be out soon and will cost about 530 USD with new snapdragon 820 and with antutu benchmark about 120 000. It have 64/128GB ROM, 4GB ram, QHD dipley, 21 MPX camera, USB 3.0 type C, atc.

6.33-inch display! wow huge for a phone!
Plus 2 MP front camera is not good for selfie + not amoled screen + 3400mAh battery definitely is not good in 2k IPS LCD display and you should wait at least 3 more months if not more for outside of china; And 530 usd price (price of 32gb with no expandable storage) is unconfirmed and if it cost 530$ it will be in china not outside so, definitely expect 600$+
The only upside is the cpu which we don't know how well it's until it comes out plus OIS in camera. Qualcome did awful job in 810
I've used both and the camera on the Meizu is far better than the 6P.

That might explain things. The rest of us have a mediocre camera and a smaller screen.

Yeah, if that really is the SoC with 3 year old A53-s, its a downgrade.
Keep the price at around $300 for the 128gb version and it will be a steal even with a slightly better soc and camera.
SD626 isn't as good as SD652/3 but it has best endurance. With proper optimization, it may lead this area. SD626+5000mAh is definitely much much better.
Also these guys are downgrading SOC to keep costs same. See the way Redmi Note series did.

It's not about price, it's about supply... Xiaomi is too nobady to get on the 660 wagon. Even bigger and more reputable players on the market have hard times to secure 660 from Qualcomm in quantities they need.
Yes! That's the biggest point, true.
The topper here is SD625+5000mAh phone.
The 626 will get better battery life at the expense of performance, like the Redmi Note 3 vs Note 4 Snapdragon variants. I guess most people won't be able to tell the performance difference but they can definitely tell battery life changes.
The great thing about the 650/652 is that it could be really fast if you wanted it or really efficient. The 615 and 626 don't have that ability because they don't have powerful A72 cores. The 660 would be the best but I doubt that will make it into a lot of phones as it could jeopardize flagship sales... Who needs the latest 8xx SoC when a 66x at half the price is good enough?
I have the 650 soc Max, using it as a mini tablet at home. If the Max 2 have richer duel speakers; better contrast screen and 660 soc. I will likely upgrade, otherwise the current Max is good enough.
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has been released.

Camera: 5.0MP front camera + 12.0MP 5 element lens, f/2.0 aperture back camera

Battery is 5300mAh

Relieved to read the specs of this phone. No need to upgrade if you own a Max. On the contrary, buy one when the priced fall a bit as the Max 2 is released. It has a better SoC.
The processor Kirin 960 doesn't outperform Snapdragon 835 in benchmarks but who cares about benchmarks in 2017 the real life performance of Honor 8 pro seems to be just smooth even while gaming and other stuff and their is a plus point that the Kirin 960 processor doesn't seem to get overheated while playing heavy games unlike Snapdragon 835 in OnePlus 5 so I'd feel to opt or prefer the underrated Honor 8 pro or Honor 6X or Honor 9 against OnePlus 5 considering the price that Honor Phones are available!
If you get your hands on honor 8 pro, please tell us how it compares against OP5
People still care about benchmarks in 2017. Wow.

And so, I am not feeling the need to root this device. The performance out of the box is exceptional.

I completely disagree with that.
Honor 8 pro has a bigger and higher resolution screen with higher body to screen ratio.
Homor 8 pro has better chipset with larger ram and internal storage.
Honor 8 pro has a better front facing camera.
The things that could have been upgraded are -
Rear camera - Both honor 8 and honor 8 pro have cameras with same aperture (f2.2). I would have liked the aperture to be atleast 2.0 on honor 8 pro.
Amoled screen - Maybe they could have used an amoled screen
Nothing else really. I am completely OK with my Honor 8 pro. Just want 8.0 upgrade by the end of year.

Yeah, but the Kirin 950 is no slouch either. Even by modern standards it's quite a beast.

Yes, the only bad thing about it is the GPU

The GPU on the Kirin 950 wasn't that bad. It rendered games perfectly with hardly any lag or dropped frames.

Well, I played riptide GP runs well on medium but, at max settings it lags sometime and I notice frame drops.
However it is good but not great
Best Features of the Honor 7X
The Honor 7X is probably one of the best budget phones of 2017. Here are some of my favorite features.
Display
The display on the 7X is significantly better than the 6X. There is a noticeable quality bump when looking at small details in pictures. The new aspect ratio is 18:9 at a 1080x2160p. The extra screen space really does make a difference especially when browsing on chrome.
Build Quality
Wow Honor went all out with the build quality on this phone. This feels exactly like the Honor 8 Pro which is a flagship device and one of the most expensive in the Honor lineup. The body of the phone has a cold metallic feel but is lighter than you'd expect. The look of the phone is great. It doesn't look like a budget phone at all. Really impressed with the build of this device.
Performance
There's not a lot of hype behind the Kirin line of CPUs, but they are very fast and efficient. While I'd much rather see a snapdragon in this thing, the Kirin 659 paired with 4GB of RAM keeps this phone running very snappy.
Bonus: Worst Feature
Mico USB
This phone has so much going for it that it's just really strange to see them go with a Micro USB instead of USB type C. I'd imagine there must be some significant price cut when going with Micro USB over Type C, but it's just odd to see that these days.
