hi, i was using original lollipop firmware on n900l (did root it), now i tried using DU(7.1), RR and Validus but everytime i install any of these using philz i get the error " could not do normal boot" and simultaneously get " error mounting data".
then i tried installing a5 port rom for samsung note 3 but after installation it restarts to recovery and gives the error "error mounting data, failed to wipe data".
one more thing i had been using custom roms without any hassle but now it seems to backfire everytime
Well am sorry to inform you that your data partition is now corrupted, this happenes when you flash something with odin and somthing goes wrong there or some other reason in twrp or cwm but if you cant't format them and you didnt make a backup then am sorry you will lose all of your stuff to get your phone backup and running
well to fix this you need to install twrp by odin then go to wipe/advanced/ then choose data !!! (REMEMBER THIS WILL ERASE EVERY THING ON YOUR PHONE) !!!
after you check the data box press change file system or repair then change the file system to anything then make it ext4 again then you will be able to access your data partition again but you wont have anything on your phone so you should put a backup f your rom and gapps and everything you have your comp if you could before doing this

thanx man, i was able to restore it that way. but there is one problem, it works fine on stock rom or modified stock roms or tw roms but i cant seem to use aosp roms. After Installing stock 5.0, i tried DU 7.1.2 but again it said " Could not do normal boot "
i know most of you are buzy people , but i will be greatful if anyone can help
Well try to do a factory reset wipe then install the rom and then the gapps and then install a kernel because when i had the same problem that you had with the error moutning anything it didn't want to boot so try installing a kernal as xenial or synergy after installig the rom

ok im freaking out a little, hopping that you fine ppl here at xda can help me agian.
i had a working rom on my tab, md's alaxandra III witch was my first rom it was great but i decided to check out another with a lil more customization. i did a backup and flashed the new rom.
it was a little twichey didnt run smooth so i decided to revert back to md's rom.
the first backup had an eror, i cant remember exactly what it said something about android media, so i tried an older one.... same thing. it was able to boot after the restore, i could see my custom live wallpaper so the restore somewhat worked but there was a force close window up that would not go away.
so i decided to just whipe and flash original zip for md's ROM. that did not work now im stuck in a bootloop.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
how can i fix this my wife will kill me if i brick this lol
this isnt looking good... usually i get a fast response
when trying to restore i get
error removing /data/data/com.google.videos/cache/-1755362040.cacheError while formatting/ data
then when it boots i get the application launcher (process com.android.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
this will not leave the screen
Can you get into recovery? Try wiping everything and flashing a fresh ROM like Epiphany
yes i tried puting alaxandra III fresh and got stuck in boot loop
Dont panic YOU ARE NOT BRICKED..
oK FIRST OF STOP THE PANIC ATTACK.. this will likely cause you to miss a step..
1st .. Can you boot into recovery.
if so ..
i suggest .. start from the beginning.. TALK ALL VERIABLES OUT..
Format your SD CARD with a android phone or a sd format utility.. i use the one from pnys website..
re download the rom you wish to flash . To the SD CARD WHILE its in your computer i believe is best..
put the sd card in your computer..
boot into cwm or ra
wipe as usual
format partitions NOT THE sd card
Flash the newly downloaded rom..
reboot recovery .. go back to wipe menu
re wipe. as usual..
Reboot the tablet and set your google account back up. the above will KILL ALL OF YOUR DATA...
THIS IS HOW I Get out of trouble when i toast something.. I ALSO not only backup everytime i take a backup. i try to restore it to be sure its working correctly.. and i push it to my personal ftp site .
good luck...
ok i will try this thx ill get back....
also why did my backup not work? there would not be an issue if they had worked?

This is something i always do..it insures that the rom is clean and Fresh. sometimes if you do not take this step you will have ghost directories in /sdcard. directories that did not get deleted. why this happens i have NO IDEA..
Im just a average user that follows what i read.
ok it happens so fast i cant read what come after but when i wipedata/factory i get the same
error removing /data/data/com.google.videos/cache/-1755362040.cacheError while formatting/ data
then it says something else 2 lines i think then it says done, not sure what that means ill try and keep going and see what happens
and wipe cache says e:unknwn volume for path [/sd-ext]
nope it did not work.
back to the forceclose pop up
i didnt get the set up stuff.straight to the rom. im getting notifications in bottem left like new email and wifi availible. shouldnt i get the set up ie. google account time zones and such?????
what ever that error is, its stuck in the system somehow
and one more thing i noticed.... there was a volume error i mentioned in a past post. well when im sitting here stuck with force close pop up, the volume is the only thing i can get access to. i can mute, vol up and down.
everything else is behind the pop up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20680452&postcount=137
im kinda lost with the sd/ext error.. you might try the above.. i think this is how you rooted to begin with... via your computer thru adb.. or you could ask in the recovery thread . the ra recovery thread talks about a similar issue not sure its the same..
wish i could do more but i would get some clarification before you proceed .
so sorry i cant do more..
oh no............. i feel that panic

Hey, trying to put Alex III back in?
Ok, you need to tell me which Recovery are you Using? Thor's CWM? Or RA Revamped?
If you're using CWM, you should go to wipes, and do all the wipes (data, Cache, Dalvik,System if it has it also, not sure if his new version has it or not) Then goto Mounts and format;
1. Format System
2. Format Cache
3. Format Dalvik
4. Format Flexrom
Install Rom.
If you get stuck in animation loop, reboot back to recovery and do wipes only, then reinstall the rom.
If using RA Revamped 3.15,
Wipe;
Data/factory reset (you shouldn't lose any data)
Dalvik
System
If boot animation, go back to RA Recovery
Data/factory reset
Dalvik
I have RA Recovery down to a fine art with this rom.
Should get you hooked up.
thanks moscow
im past boot loop.
when i wipedata/factory i get the same
error removing /data/data/com.google.videos/cache/-1755362040.cacheError while formatting/ data
then it says something else 2 lines i think then it says done

i flash your rom ( witch by the way i will never stray from again) but i dont get the fresh start up screens to set up time google account ect.....EDIT**i get a home screen with a fc pop up and cant do anything
im no pro but whatever its not removing is what looks like is causing the crap

"wipe cache says e:unknwn volume for path [/sd-ext]" is normal, don;t worry about it. But the other error, is corrupted data I believe.
Are you using Thor's CWM Recovery? What version?
or Do you use RA Revamped? What version
It sounds like you have some very corrupted data in there.
If you are using Thor's CWM. And his recovery only;
Here are the steps to completely wipe all internal data. And give it a clean internal system (according to Thor)
Note: Optional Formatting.
If you really want to remove EVERYTHING in Internal Memory, at this point, go to Backup and Restore. Select "Toggle backup and restore of internal storage (/data/media). Enable this setting by selecting it. By default, it is disabled. Then proceed to the formatting steps. This will format the Entire Internal Memory when you proceed.
Note, this will format EVERYTHING in internal memory (not ext sd card)
Select Go Back, Goto Mounts and Storage
1. Format System
2. Format Cache
3. Format Dalvik
4. Format Flexrom
After you reboot, I believe it resets back to the defaults.
---------- Post added at 11:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:41 PM ----------
Oh, and once you are done, try to install the rom with the normal procedures. It's quite possible the rom on the sd was corrupted, so you may want to re-download it again if you have the same error.
IF you are running RA Revamped Recovery, then you may want to contact Drellisdee at his thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459821
He knows the procedures to do the same. I would tell you, but it's a tricky process, and he knows more about his recovery than I do.
One more note, if you have an extra SD card, even a 2gb, I would format that to FAT 32, and also copy a rom to it and use it. (remove all doubt)

First bootloop happened 2 weeks ago. Today happened again twice i wiped dalvik cache and everything is fine how can i fix it? I thought rom cause it i flashed stock firmware rooted it and removed bloatware. Still happens lags, freeze, getting too hot and bootloop. Is it lollipop update? I never had this issues with kitkat. Thank you for your answer but I did it after flash stock rom via odin. Wiped data / factory reset , cache partition , mounted cache , system , data , wiped dalvik cache..
Wiping data does not equal a factory reset. Wiping data does just that, wipes user installed apps. But generally leaves the internal storage alone.
A factory reset returns the phone to the settings it came out of the factory with, including a clean internal storage(If you have the stock rom). I heard that changing roms and just wiping data, dalvik and cache will still leave behind some files.
But it could also be untrue.

Flashing stock rom is same with factory reset i think clears everything.
I don't know. Haven't flashed stock on this device yet.
But don't most guys recommend doing a wipe before going back to stock?
I dont know i'll try that when i have free time. I did research some guys saying lollipop causing these problems. I'll try wipe before flash stock rom again , if issues keep happen i'll use lates 4.4.2 custom rom. Thank you for your answers i'll report back.
Real reset
This method will wipe everything, including operating system and efs files. Before you do this:
you must root
Download twrp recovery
Install the recovery using the app from the play store
Boot into recovery mode and have twrp backup everything
save your backup to an SD card and the computer (can't hurt to have two backups)
Doing the above will preserve your phone important data like your imei and efs
in case something goes wrong.
NOW
after you have backed everything up use twrp recovery to wipe data. Have twrp wipe everything except for your SD card (don't won't to lose the backup)
After everything has been obliterated have twrp boot you into download mode.
Download Odin from XDA preferably 3.09 (most stable release) and then grab an official stock firmware from a trusted source. The latest stock firmware should be at least 4.4.2
If you have carriers other than t-mobile you will also need to find a PIT file for partitioning.
When you have all of this open up Odin with your phone connected in download mode and make sure repartitioning, clear efs and nand-erase is checked along with the defaults.
Select pda button and choose your firmware (unzipped tar.md5 format.) Then select repartitioning PIT file button and direct to where you have the PIT file downloaded.
now click start (be sure that the Com port is recognized by Odin: will be highlighted in blue or yellow.)
This will take a while depending on your computer.
when it finishes your phone should reboot with a fresh os and filesystem. If you get stuck in a bootloop reboot into recovery mode and do a wipe data and wipe cache. Reboot and your phone should be good as new.
IMPORTANT!!! It is vital you keep your TWRP backups for as long as you have your phone if you lose them and something goes wrong while flashing your phone you will lose important things such as IMEI baseband which will prevent you from connecting to your network and Sim card recognition.
Thank you so much i'll try this now.

Is that another custom recovery?
If so then yes just make sure you have all of your system files and most importantly your efs backed up.
Run odin as administrator if that doesnt work, try using another version of Odin.

What carrier are you using, model number of the phone, etc.
Have you backed everything up? And can you flash the custom recovery through Odin if it fails?
Try it without wiping efs first just to be safe
Look here for your device you will be able to find standalone flash able versions of twrp that should work through odin.

You need to wipe the data partition in TWRP in order to decrypt it.
wipe/format data/type YES
TWRP doesn't yet support samsungs encryption.
wiping data will obviously remove everything, so backup first.
immediately after wiping data, flash an updated supersu, or dm-verity disable
Flashing a rom over an encrypted data partition will do nothing to solve it unfortunately.
Today i decided to try the newest B890 and i did but i noticed a few bugs so i wanted to go back on my previous rom via twrp ( i had a full backup ) . Problem i faced is that twrp no longer reads the data partition and it fails everytime i try to restore the rom so i tried to install sokkobans B574 and it seemed to work . All went fine untill the boot when its asking me about some password to unlock the storage because it is encrypted but i did no encryption . Is there any way i can get rid of it and use the phone again ? Twrp does not work because its not able to mount the data partition for some reason i dont know.

Didn't read the instructions very carefully, now did you? The very FIRST thing you need to do when booting to TWRP is to FORMAT THE DATA PARTITION. Not wipe, but FORMAT. The data partition is encrypted and TWRP can't read it. That is why everything looks weird. Also, that is why you need to backup any pictures, downloads or anyting else you want to save because formating the partition will erase EVERYTHING and not just system stuff that wiping deletes.

My post pointed out that formatting would erase everything and that you should backup prior to doing it. And there are several other methods of backing up data and apps besides TWRP. Yes, it leaves the data partition blank, but flashing a ROM and gapps will put the directories back. Of course, they will still be empty. If you used a Google Account, then that should have at least backed up your apps and some settings. When you setup a new ROM, it should let you restore them.
BTW, yes it was the first time it happened for most of us. Samsung keeps trying to improve "security" and adding encryption, by default, to the data partition is in all of their new tablets and phones.

You can't backup a stock ROM with TWRP because it can't handle the encryption. But you can use TWRP to root a stock ROM. In that case you just ignore the wierd internal data and put what you want to flash only on the external SD. IOW, if your reason for flashing TWRP is to use its backup function on a stock, don't bother, it won't work. But if your intent is to ROOT the stock ROM, then go ahead, but DON'T format data. Just put the files needed to root on the external SD and flash from there. You format the data partition in order to flash a custom ROM.
