First of all I did the full unroot in Super SU, that didn't return to stock so now I need to find another way.
I grabbed the SM-G950U1 firmware from the switching carriers thread.
I booted into normal ODIN and but in all the files. BUT after I put in each file each said "Enter CS for MD5...", "Check MD5.. Do not unplug cable", "Please wait..", "Checking MD5 finished Successfully", "Leave CS..". It ends there and it allows me to put in the next one. I decided to ignore that and clicked "start" but it then outputs "File analysis.." and then "SetupConnection.." then stops there.
I then tried again same stuff as before but with the options you're supposed to select when rooting selected. It goes to "File analysis..", "SetupConnection..", "Initialzation..", "Erase...", then "FAIL! Model dismatch fail", "All threads completed. (succeed 0/ failed1)
I was in download mode for all of this
I'm also not sure what options need to be selected or if I need to be in download mode. I would really like to have this solved before school tomorrow.
All and any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
EDIT: I put in BL and it said "added!!" after is that good?

It will say added when you connect the phone. What it said at first was correct and how it should be. After you add all the files it should say leave CS after each one. Then when you connect the phone it should say added.
You needed to select OEM unlock and enable USB debugging in the phone developer options.
Then add all the files, connect phone and start. If it fails on setupConnection then try a different port and or cable.
If all fails try a different stock firmware.

So I had my phone running just fine, with Unleash the beast, then I went into Android system recovery mode, whiped all user data and cache data. Now when I boot up, it starts from a clean install, except I'm getting non-stop errors saying Sorry whatever has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then Force close, and they keep popping up one after another.
How can I properly restart from scratch and reinstall everything?
Thanks!

Two things, please read the stickies before asking questions or at least do a search and please learn that this does NOT belong in development. This is Q&A or general at beast.
but to answer your question, refer to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Did you whipe it good !! But yeah seriously, 15 seconds of reading the stickies would answer all your questions.
I tried using the Odin3 Downloader. I installed the USB drivers, plugged in the microUSB cable, opened Odin3, entered Download mode, and clicked Start. Nothing happens, all it says is "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)"

are you using the generic Odin3 tool that has a bunch of horizontal white squares across the top with several buttons along the bottom right that say things like "PIT", "PDA", "PHONE", "CSC"? if so, this is the basic Odin3 tool that can be used with whatever firmware you'd like (seriously read more before using it) as opposed to the one-click downloader I linked to which should just be two vertical rows of white boxes with only "START" and "MASTER CLEAR" buttons
Make sure you follow the steps in the order they are in. Also, you can try to uninstall and reinstalling the drivers, I've had to do this with Odin, it is picky about the drivers.

When you plug in the phone, does the computer make that "HEY NEW HARDWARE" sound? also, are you in download mode?
always open Odin before plugging in the phone... when you do, does the output box (where you see the <OSM> line) say something like <Added !!>?

Before it didn't say <ADDED> or anything.
I stopped using the one-click downloader as it doesn't work for me. Instead I used Odin3, installed the JM5 firmware.
PDA: I9000XWJM5
PHONE: I897UCJF6
CSC: I9000SERJM1
Now to install Unleash the Beast and Lag Fix.
What firmware should I flash to go back to the stock AT&T Captivate ROM?

umm JM5 is an i9000 ROM, unleash the beast is incompatible. Because of how the firmware works, your phone should essentially be treated as an i9000 and you should be looking in that forum on how to root and other things
i've read through some of the threads but i can't find anything that would help...i was installing a viperrom and now my phone wont go passed the samsung boot screen i can't access the recovery my computer wont even detect my phone how can i fix this
reboot into cwm3 and wipe data, cache ,dalvik x3 then flash rom
my guess iss that you didn't odin before you installed the rom ?
This might sound like a dumb question, but...did you turn off the phone before trying to get to recovery? As in, did you pull the battery so you could actually get the phone off?
If you can't get to recovery, did you try going in download mode and then plugging it in?
The point here is that since you can at least get the samsung logo you're not bricked...because you're still getting a response

i tried to put my phone in download mode and plugged it in but the computer can't detect my phone when i open odin
just redownload the drivers
Download the 32-bit even if you're on a 64-bit computer
the 32-bit drivers seem to work better install them then restart your computer and phone then retry ODIN
You can get the Drivers in this thread....

Did you put you phone into download mode before you connected it?
Received a OTA update yesterday on my Rooted, Samsung Fascinate. After the update phone hangs on boot screen. Powering the device while holding the volume buttons gives me the Android System Recovery <3e> Screen. On this screen I have a bunch of E: Failed to open Recovery, cache, data kernal etc. (I can give all specifics if needed)
If I press the home button I get what looks like a screen to update the phone (Android Character with Triangle) From here I tried the instructions from the "How to recover from any brick" thread. Neither method is working. Any ideas?
From the boot screen I am also not able to scroll up or down to select a wipe apply update from SD Card etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I don't know how to fix it (don't get discouraged I don't know a lot in this area) but it seems to me if you play your cards right you might be able to complain to verizon and get an early upgrade out of it. A galaxy nexus would look mighty fine in your pocket.
probably a conflict with being rooted when it updated. Odin back to stock and update completely and then re-root.

1. Download this file to your PC get you to a rooted ROM with the proper recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/?d0wha8lc1hjxxdf/geewiz-2.3-fullwipe-11302011.tar.md5 (this is the EH03 GeeWiz Odin Package ROM by djp952)
2. Boot phone in download mode by powering phone off, hold down vol button on phone, connect cable to PC (there is no need to remove battery)
3. Open Odin and Place the GeeWiz file you just downloaded into the PDA slot, click Start
4. Your phone should now be on the EH03 GeeWiz ROM
5. If you want to flash a different ROM, download the zip file for the ROM of your choice onto your phone (use the phone to download it), reboot into Recovery (what you booted into before is the stock Samsung recovery, not the Clockwork Recovery you need), choose "install zip from sd card", select "choose zip from sd card", choose the Download folder (the folder in which your zip file should appear), choose that zip file, and install.
6. Profit.

I have multiple Samsung Cables (I tried all of them) but it is possible I am not using the one that came with this phone (Could this be an issue?)
I am using windows 7 64 X64 The phone shows up in the in the device manager as LibUsb>Samsung Andriod
On the recovery screen I have noticed if I push the home button it flips between the Android and the Triangle to a screen that shows all the files the boot loader cannot find. Does it matter what screen I am on when I try the upload?
Thanks in advance for any advice for a n00b!
You need to download the Samsung USB drivers for your PC, as it appears to be not recognizing your phone properly. You should be able to find what you need on Samsung's website. Hope this works.

Ok So I have removed / Re-Installed the drivers on 2 different machines (One Win 7 64 Bit other is Win Vista 64 bit. I get the same results on both machines. Any other ideas?

I gave this a second try. The "Driver" portion of the software detected the Samsung_Device and I was able to install the driver. However when I try the front end I get an error "Failed to Detect Compatible Device"
Im getting really close to jumping ship on this one and going out and getting a new phone.
I appreciate all the help!
Found a few threads on Verizon forums. Sounds like there have been a few people run into the same issues. Anyone tried returning a rooted phone to Verizon? If so and they caught it what were the repercussions?

Just to be clear, you are putting the phone in download mode then installing the drivers via zadig right? That should work.
loading drivers in windowz is the most retarded thing in the world. You dont happen to have access to a computer running linux do you? Heimdall works flawlessly in linux.
Good Questions
1- Yes I am installing the windows drivers as you describe
2- As for download mode how do I go about doing that? All I can seem to do is to boot to the <3e> bootloader. I cannot scroll up or down through the options. However I can press the home button and it goes to a picture of an Androind with a triangle around it (Green Droid, White Triange, Orange !)
3 -I didn't realize that heimdall worked in linux. I just downloaded it and gave it a spin in Ubuntu. I am getting the same error "Cannot Detect Download mode Device"

To enter download mode power off your phone, pull the battery, hold the volume down button while plugging in your phone. The screen should show a yellow triangle with the Android guy in the middle.

Excellent! I was starting to think you had a hardware problem as in a faulty micro USB port on the phone...

Would just like to add that the 2.3 OTA soft bricked my fathers stock phone. I am now hunting the non rooted file in another thread to odin or heimdal back to 2.2 to alow me to try again.
Verizon LVL 2 says he checked and I am the first customer to report a bricked phone from the OTA to 2.3. Yea... right.
Here is the guide I followed to get my phone back to stock (It includes download links for stock roms.
This is the one part missing from this tutorial. Probably because it assumes that these steps are known if someone has bricked a phone
make sure u have your samsung usb cable plugged into the pc but not into the phone (not yet at least) and make sure u remove your battery.
step 1. hold down the volume down button and continue holding
step 2. whille still holding down the volume down button, plug your phone into the usb cable
step 3. while still holding down the volume down button, pop your battery in.
I love my Continuum but for the last two weeks it has been behaving badly...unsolicited reboots, taking forever to activate the phone, etc. My thinking is I've got nothing to lose by upgrading from Froyo (2.2.2) to GB in the hopes of regaining some performance. I'm a noob and based on what I've read here and other places I needed to downloaded the drivers, Odin3 v1.85, garnett_3.pit and SCH-I400-EG04-Ginger-Rel.tar.md5. Then follow these steps:
1. Download and Install USB Drivers
2. Download and Install Odin
3. Put phone in Download mode by holding Vol- and Power buttons simultaneously to get to Samsung Recovery Utilities
4. Start Odin
5. Connect phone to computer with USB cable
6. Wait until a Device is detected on COM port ( get a yellow box indication)
7. Map to .PIT file on PC
8. Map to .MD5 file on PC
9. Verify re-partition, auto reboot and F. Reset Time boxes are selected
10. Go...
Step 6 was never reached (device detection) when I put the phone in Download mode per Step 3. I left the PC-phone connected for nearly an hour and nothing. So I took a chance and turned on USB debugging and just plugged it in. Success! Odin indicated a device detected. Proceeded with the rest of the steps above to a point where the following messages appear in the Message Box:
<ID:0/005> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..

<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
And I wait. And wait. And wait some more. After 15 minutes, still nothing. PC is quiet, too. When I've convinced myself that I've given it enough time, I dismount the PC/phone connection and the following messages appear:
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
<ID:0/005> Removed!!
What am I'm doing wrong or need to try to complete the upgrade? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
cncboy
I'd try Heimdall, see if that'll help If you need help with that, let me know. Basically you need to extract The *.tar file using 7-zip, then load up each file one at a time in said program...
EDIT: it's been a while, but I remember this happening when I was using a wrong PIT file. I don't know if that's what's going on, but just an idea.
Curious...
Thanks, Trailblazer. I found a video on youtube that supposedly does what I'm trying to do. I'd post the link but I haven't had 10 posts yet. If you're interested, it can be found on youtube. The title of the video is "How to Update Samsung SCH I400 to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread"
I downloaded the same pit and tar files that the guy in the video did. Are the drivers supposed to be anyplace special on my computer? I choose the default when executing the install and it created a folder at C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG. I'm running this on Win XP.
Thanks!

Hi all, first time trying to flash a ROM and having difficulties.
I recently purchased a Tab A from Ebay and after a few weeks got round to using it, turned it on and it is saying that it needs the account it was setup with in order to finish the setup.
Tried messaging the seller but haven't got anywhere so thought I just wipe it to factory defaults and try again. But it says this cant be done as the FRP lock is enabled.
So did some reading and found out about Odin and flashing the ROM, so downloaded Odin3_v3.14.4, and ROM making sure it was the right version for my Tab, downloaded USB drivers, put Tab in download mode and loaded Odin running as Admin, loaded the AP file and clicked start then it just fails!!! No message comes up on the Tab just fails in Odin?
I have included log below so can someone please help me. I have screen captures to but cant find out how to add them here.

If you are getting the error blocked by FRP lock when flashing then that means you need to enable OEM unlocking which you cannot do since you can't get past the setup screen. You really do not have any option but to return it or message the seller

There is one thing that you can try...
You have to find a combination firmware with the same bootloader version as your current one.
Then, Flash that combination firmware and then flash back to stock. It has worked on some other devices to bypass FRP.
The locked bootloader shouldn't block it because it is still Official firmware.
If that doesn't work then like I said you don't really have any other option...

Ok first download this Odin: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4952061
And then download this firmware: https://mega.nz/file/Ynow0S7B#mRuSS_qZUKzmRPQHwfVCRv1H09PCHtbu-8J_pqr5_b8
Then flash this firmware in the AP slot and make sure repartition is not enabled.
If you get an error than try this firmware: https://mega.nz/file/IyxlmSCK#MtyhDSad3a_xQypxAvLQU2nS0-RbapT0FvfOq_j27Zs
Then flash back to stock ROM and cross your fingers ?
Edit: If you can't boot into the combo firmware than you can do a factory reset in recovery.

i have T585XXU6CTE6 (SM-T585, Samsung Tab A6 2016) Education Tab! (No play store, can’t install unknown source, not enable able)
i can’t open download mode (cannot install TWRP or Root)
can’t Factory reset even from recovery: MDM error
lock screen setting is disabled in setting no way to enable it! so i can't do factory reset using PIN Code error after 15 trial
every time i turn on developer option it disabled automatically once i leave About page
