Hello! I've been using my Note 4 since its launch with no issues. 2 days ago the phone started acting weirdly. It would shut down without any reason. It doesn't go back to Samsung logo, it just shuts down without any warning. The strange thing is that when the screen is black I can feel 2 weak vibrations if I push the power button briefly. If I hold the power button the phone will boot normally. I've tried everything: system/cache/memory wipe, flashed new bootloader and kernel, I've tried 3 different batteries and tested that the phone is not overheating. I'm out of ideas right now. Can someone help me with that issue?
Same here. I'm suspicious of the recent Google Play updates (protect, services, instant apps, assistant etc.), but I don't know for sure.

Is there anything I could try to see if that's the problem?
It's the same for me. I try to reinstall with all the possibility, nand erase, pit, firmware in 4 part.
Ever the same

Last sudden shut down 7 hours ago. So far it's doing ok. Some hiccups here and there, but nothing to write home about. If there's another spontaneous shutdown, I'm ready for a factory reset.
I don't know, sometimes it shuts down and sometimes it reboots. 3 reboots and 2 shutdowns today so far. I'm starting to think that the issue might be hardware related.

Could be, you never know.
Try this

My SD card was automatically deactivated after the last reboot. Let's see if there's any improvement.

Nope, still no improvement. It might be an issue with the baseband. When the connection is down or LTE+ is stable it won't reboot/shut down. When I'm in an area with weak LTE connection it reboots when switching to Edge.

The device feels indeed much faster again. Since my SD card was close to full, it might be the reason for all of these issues.

Ok, weird! You can turn off edge in settings but I guess that doesn't really help you.
what I would do next is dirty flash the same firmware using odin (which will keep all your apps/data)
Are you using official firmware or custom?
Experienced another reboot even without the SD card. It's about time to flash the original firmware again.

Custom. I'm using Ramrom v11 with RamKernel. I forced the phone in WCDMA only (H+) and I didn't have any issue since then. I'm also using the latest modem version. Looks like it could be a problem with LTE switching to Edge.
Yesterday I performed the 5th full wipe and flashed the ROM again. Still got the problem when the LTE signal is weak.

I doubt it would solve your problem. I mean I've been wiping and flashing ROMs for 3 days without solving anything. Give it a try, maybe it'll work for you.
You're right. No success. Any suggestion what to do next? Edit: Will contact Samsung support tomorrow. [emoji24]

It seems that my phone doesn't like my home. It only reboot indoor with LTE enabled.
Went to the Samsung Customer Service. Mainboard damage, most likely eMMC, they didn't say exactly. 300 Euros for repair.
If it happens after update 6.0.1 then
Remove battery and put your phone in front of AC for 5 min and then insert battery and try to start it .
After that install wakelock and keep your cpu awake
Hope this helps

I'm have troubles with my HD2 randomly rebooting itself for apparently no reason. Initially I had a barebone CM7 ROM, and it seemed to reboot much more frequently when I came home from university. As soon as I got home for this break, sure enough, it began rebooting again. I then switched to a CM10 ROM, thinking it was just the previous ROM messing up, yet the problem persisted.
If it's not a ROM causing it, what could it be? It's really annoying having the phone shut off randomly while I'm doing something, and I'm worried it'll end up worse just because of how frequently it reboots.
overheating? failing touch screen? dodgy battery? failing hardware? faulty/fake copy SD card? old/wearing out sim card? some app that doesnt play nice on the hd2?
they can all cause reboots on multiple roms, along with another half a dozen reasons, i'm sure.
If the phone did reboot from any of those, it still wouldn't explain why it doesn't happen when I'm at school. I'm not exaggerating; once I go back (about ~126 miles away from home), it never reboots like this. At this point, you may be thinking, "Why not just wait to go back?" I have only two semesters left, and I want to get this fixed prior to me moving back here.
But nonetheless:

I thought this was the case at first as well, but I uninstalled all my apps on the barebone CM7 ROM, and reboots still occurred. Even after doing a fresh install of this CM10 ROM, the phone rebooted before I even began installing apps to it.
Are there any files that don't get changed by flashing a new ROM? I was thinking that it could possibly be the modem I have flashed to my phone, but I wasn't sure if flashing a new ROM automatically changes the modem as well. Can I get some insight on this?
By modem do you mean the radio? It's unlikely to be the radio itself, however it could be something like the phone struggling to switch between 2g and 3g,,try it with the phone in only 2g mode,, perhaps you have a faulty cell tower in your area,,unlikely but not unknown.
Yeah, sorry about the terminology haha. But thank you, I'll try that and report back!
So disabling the 3G didn't change anything, but I noticed a drop in the frequency of reboots when I disable my wifi. Could some of my router settings be messing with the phone? I tried deleting the network on the phone and re-adding it, but the reboots remained consistent.

still sounds like hardware really, as suggested.
does it reboot even with the phone in airplane mode?
But the phone doesn't reboot when I'm in the city where my university is located, only when I come back home. That doesn't really lead me to believe that it's the hardware.
I have the same problem with the
[1.Dec.2012][All in One] EvoHD2v10 ICS 4.0.4-full HWA "Fastest ICS ever"
it reboots more than 3x a week!!!!!!!
For me, it can literally get up to 10 reboots per day, when I'm in this particular city. It gets very aggravating, and I'm worried about the stress it's putting on the hardware by constantly booting back up.
Anyway, I decided to say **** it and start from scratch. I don't think it's a hardware problem, so I decided to go back to the beginning. I formatted and re-partitioned my SD card for Native SD-compatibility. I flashed Xylo's 4.1.2 PA ROM. Now it's time to use it like I would normally.
If anyone is experiencing the same problem as me, or reads this in the future with the same issue, I'll try to keep the post up-to-date with what stopped the reboots for me.
dont forget to clear out your sd card, , leftovers from previous roms can cause issues. Easiest way is to flash teh new rom, then immediately in CWM do a wipe data/factory reset, as this clears out both fat32 and ext folders.
AW: [Q] Can reboots be caused by location?
I had the same problem with my fathers HD2. I installed clK before and it rebooted the last time quite often.
So I reinstalled everything. I started installing the official HTC WinMo 6.5 Rom.
Then I've done Task29 and installed MagLdr and then a Radio which Supports 576 MB Ram. (I think it was 2.15.xx) , repartitioned it for BlueOrange Mix Rom 1.2 (The best I ever installed so far) and flashed it in CWM.
So the HD2 is running since 150 Hours without any Problems.
P.S.: Task29, MagLdr, Radio Installation and Repartition has been done in HD2 All in one Toolkit.
Greetings by Myself5 and I hope I could help you.

Hi, I bought my GS4 i9500 around 2 months ago, and few days ago while I was listening to music, someone called me and I noticed that the phone was a bit hot. I'm not exactly sure that that was the source of this problem.
Anyway, when I put the phone down, it didn't work, and after a few seconds it rebooted.
Ever since it rebooted it keeps doing problems - it reboots once in a while, the wi-fi doesn't work, and the touch is delayed sometimes (it doesn't respond for a while, and after a few seconds it suddenly responds to all the gestures I did over the last few seconds.).
I tried factory resting it, change frimware, clear cache and everything, and still nothing worked. It still does these problems.
I took it to the store where I bought it and they flashed it, and still it didn't solve it.
The problem is I rooted the phone, and I'm afraid the warranty won't be accepted if I send them the device.
Anyone knows what the problem might be?
Sorry for my bad English.
Thanks.

Noop, sorry man. when i did go fully back to stock it went off... i think its a warranty problem here.
well, i'm currently dealing with the problem too, it automatically boots itself, my reception goes off, eventough im not in a dead spot. but: it only happens if im on ~20% battery. i think its a softwaresided problem. im running on the normal stock touchwiz with android 4.2.2.
im gonna send it to the operator, maybe it really is a warranty-sided problem.

I bought S4 2 months ago. Recently, it keep restarting and restarting. The battery go down from 50% to 0% when it restart. Anyone know how to fix this issue ?
Same thing over here
My S4 acted that way also.
It happened when I took burst pictures and then touch the little photo icon in the corner to see the captured images.
The phone restarted at 0% battery and got into restart loop.
Only removing the battery for a few seconds could stop this loop.
Now, I reinstalled a new ROM.
Hope it works.
Try install new recovery+ROM
There are many ways to try to fix this issue start from the least expensive :
- disconnect wireless
- remove sd card
- remove the battery and the sim card and reinsert them
- check if your battery is swollen and replace it if so
- try a factory reset
- if you have a custom rom try stock rom
good luck

Getting the same-ish problems. Phone is rebooting like mad, doesn't matter what ROM I have installed at all. Not sure if it's an issue with my battery but it seems that it could be a voltage/current issue that causes the phone to die for just long enough. As everyone knows if you pull the battery out whilst the phone is on, then put it back in after a second or two, the phone tries to reboot without you ever having pressed the power button
I just got 2 new batteries. Gotta wait about a week for them to come. Gonna do some testing, see if it stops the issues. If not, then it's a hardware issue and I'm gonna see if I can get it replaced under warranty.
How to use logcat
My problem seems to be different compared to the others in this thread, but don't want to start a new thread. Currently my S4 is lying in the office all week, because I use another phone, when I am outside of the office. It's equiped with pre-rooted MGA, but I also tried various other ROM's, with different ways of flashing e.g. CWM, Odin etc. also no wipe/full wipe. The problem is that as soon, as I take the phone away from the office, I have several restarts a day, which is never happen in the office. This is strange!
My thoughts are, that some app is responsible.
questions:
- can I find out in using logcat? / How to use logcat?
- There is a description to boot the phone into safe mode http://skp.samsungcsportal.com/integrated/popup/FaqDetailPopup3.jsp?cdsite=my&seq=871239. It's not working for me. Has anybody tried that?
- Any other ideas?

I believe that goes in the right direction, but turning off GPS did not help. But I think it must have to do with location, sometimes it is stable the whole day (same as in the office) sometimes 2-3 reboots, one after the other.
Must be an app, but how to find?
Hello everyone,
I've had my note 4 over two years now and out of nowhere problems started happening after second MM update, model SM-N910F was freezing and restarting and sometimes was not able to boot normally and got mmc read fail.
I'm reading a lot about this problem in other forums and here, so hope someone could help about this issue.
No Success:
I tried anything from removing sd card, removing sim card, changing the battery, resetting the device, cleaning the cache, flashing the room through odin, flashing the rom with pit file and doing a re partition (Didn't tried Nand erase).
Success:
The only way that I was able to fix the freeze issue was by installing app called Wake Lock and enabling PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK.
But using Wake Lock has its disadvantages. First of all you need to run the app all times which its not practical and second it wipes your battery because it keeps device and processor awake.
Please join this thread anyone who has similar issues with the aim to fix or bring the phone to an usable state again.
I also purchased my GN4 about 2 years ago and just recently got this error. This is really fishy. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Samsung trying to screw over all the root users and get us to upgrade to newer models.

Yes, I'm on the Canadian SM-N910W8 model of GN4.
I've been using the Wake Lock app for a few days now and it works perfectly, if you can get the phone to boot into homescreen that is.
For instance, when the phone shuts off due to low battery or an inevitable crash, sometimes getting the phone to boot up is a real pain in the ass because it doesn't boot up correctly most of the time.
However, one odd fix I've discovered is to put your phone and battery in the fridge for about 2-3 minutes and let it cool down completely. And then magically your phone will boot up properly to homescreen again. Activate Wake Lock and you're pretty much good until the next time your phone shuts off and can't boot. My phone will NEVER boot up to homescreen if it is even slightly hot in temperature. In order to boot, it needs to be cool.
I am highly confident that this is indeed a hardware issue, instead of a software issue. The mainboard fails to read memory properly which probably indicates that the mainboard needs to be replaced. I however cannot afford to do this so I hope that I can last atleast 2-3 years of my GN4 surviving through Wake Lock. :crying:

I really don't think it's an hardware issue but even if so, why this started to happen immediately after the update and why it only happens when the device goes to sleep or when we power on the device.
I also noticed the change on bootloader fonts and interface after the update. I'm suspecting that the problem is there.
Does any one has any thoughts about this?
It's a hardware issue. It's a bad nand issue in fact. You can find Reddit posts a mile long about it.
Anyways it will slowly get worse over time. Had to replace the main-board in my SM-N910W myself.

Is there any reason at all why it is happening I mean for the nand issue. I don't like the answer that is motherboard fault and we should replace it, which probably means replacing the phone. Is there anyone who can see deeper into the motherboard to find the issue. I also insist that this started to happen immediately after the second MM update.
I still have an IPhone 3G from 2008 and never changed anything on it. Isn't that ironic ?

It was a Bad batch of nand chip that started to go bad after a year or two. Note 4s started to drop like flies before April.
I think your in the 1st stage of Loss and Grief. 1st stage is denial.
If thats so than Samsung should repair our phones under warranty and not tell us we have to pay for the repair coz we installed custom roms.

I would be more interested in understanding how come so many Note 4 devices started acting up around same time mark...
This is definitely a hardware problem with the motherboard. Mine started giving the same symptoms 2 weeks after the 6.01 upgrade. Wakelock made it stable but after Samsung replaced the motherboard it is so much faster and no issues at all. I wonder if this is a faulty NAND issue whether the 6.01 upgrade and the way it manages memory could have triggered it. Certainly strange but it need Samsung to fix it.
I am also having same problem.
I was using custom rom and it was working fine without any lag or freeze suddenly one day my Note fall from bed to ground and since then it is not working properly i thought its the ROM so i reverted back to stock MM rom flashed via odin.
Reset everything erased everything but the problem remains same.
At present i am on stock with hardly any apps just FB and whatsapp.

Same issues, I downloaded the wake lock and so far so good.
I have the same issue also guys and it started a week after updating to Marshmallow.
Phone worked perfectly fine for 2 years prior to this. So I highly doubt its a hardware issue and more likely a software/firmware problem.
Phone seems to have issues whenever the screen is asleep (hence why the wake lock app seems to help with this problem although not a proper solution)
I'm hoping Samsumg can release a patch fix for this as I truly love my Note 4 and would like to keep it for some time yet.

I was thinking about that! but I saw on other threads people downgrading with no success.
Hello Guys,
I am from India, I got the latest update attached screenshot.
I am facing few issues:-
The phone has become laggy in some departments such as:
1. The fingerprint mark stays on the screen after the screen unlocks.
2. Even after pressing the power button screen doesn't lock. The screen does black out but when I double tab on the screen it directly takes me to the home screen without showing the lockscree first. I am not using Google trusted location or devices to unlock without taking my fingerprint or face recognition.
3. When I try to dial a number it doesn't call at a single go, after pressing multiple times it calls the person whom I am trying to call. It looks very choppy as if the system responding to my commands little later.
4. Whenever I am trying to take the screenshot it doesn't take at a single go, after pressing multiple times the system recognises I am trying to take the screenshot and respond little later.
All the apps are working fine without any lags but the above said things are bothering me a lot.
I hope someone from XDA can assist me with this.
P.S.: I have tried to clear the cache from the boot screen. Also did a test on graphics from the same menu.

Thanks for your reply! I hope somebody facing similar problems has overcome and provide suggestions.
But Sammobile blog has also confirmed these issues.
II havent faced any of these issues post update.
Did you try doing a factory reset? If not, try the same if its not too much of an issue for you.
I have the same but I updated today over mobile data.
Came home and it started to behave like described above.
So I figured it is something with the updated WiFi drivers.
Switched off Wi-Fi and all seems fine now.

No I didn't do factory reset as I have checked from other forums that factory reset is not helping, the new update is broken.

Yes this trick is working.
---------------
Also one more question I don't know if it's my phone or everyone is facing this issue. Whenever I switch on VoLTE calls (Screenshot Attached) my phone temperature increases and battery drains.

Not true, its a good update and everything butterysmooth here. Did factory reset after the update though because of the size of the update.

Everyone is not facing this issue, some of them are facing!
Are you using data over WiFi or Mobile data?

Hello Guys,
I am from India, I got the latest update attached screenshot.

So, you're saying only the ppl that took the OTA are facing the issues? In that case i will probably try that then if the bug returns for me.
For now after switching WiFi On/Off for me it is gone.
Seen reports that plugging in the charger does the same.
Weird stuff indeed.
Also now i see a fellow Dutch, you by any change using Rabobank stuff (Wallet/App) with tripped KNOX and have no problems with it?

No, its possible that some users who do flash a rom with Odin could face some issues too but i personally don`t. I`am using the ABN bank app and i haven`t rooted for a long time now. I used to do it because of theming and getting updates/upgrades but nowadays i personaly don`t see a reason anymore to root anymore. So i can`t help you with your question.
I happened to flash "ASE5" build two ways :
1. First using ODIN 2 days back . Did a factory reset ,erased cache in recovery, reinstalled all apps & after setting them up:-
issues faced -> None.
2. Went back to previous "ASD5" build, downloaded the "ASE5 OTA" update and installed. Did a factory reset, erased cache in recovery, reinstalled all apps & after setting them up:-
issues faced so far -> None.
*One glitch I'm noticing from the beginning with "ASE5" :
When I click on my apps & games(playstore app>drop down menu on the left), it freezes for a split second while it takes into the main page. With all my effort, I could not fix it. (App cache cleaning only temporarily fixes this).

A split second delay bothers you? What apps are running in the background? Do you have the FaceBook app installed? How did you set your animations?

No it does not "bother"but is a step back in smoothness if that counts. It's a "difference" that I noticed since I was testing both builds back and forth for a comparison. Rest be assured that it's not related to apps installed and animations set.

I have my animations set to 1,0 and i don`t have a delay, on 0,5 however there is a slight delay.

Erase playstore cache and you won't even notice it for a while only to re-appear after sometime.
"Less noticiable" and "very much noticiable" in my usage in 1x & .5x respectively. In ASD5 build, this transition slips like a soap.
