I'm have troubles with my HD2 randomly rebooting itself for apparently no reason. Initially I had a barebone CM7 ROM, and it seemed to reboot much more frequently when I came home from university. As soon as I got home for this break, sure enough, it began rebooting again. I then switched to a CM10 ROM, thinking it was just the previous ROM messing up, yet the problem persisted.
If it's not a ROM causing it, what could it be? It's really annoying having the phone shut off randomly while I'm doing something, and I'm worried it'll end up worse just because of how frequently it reboots.
overheating? failing touch screen? dodgy battery? failing hardware? faulty/fake copy SD card? old/wearing out sim card? some app that doesnt play nice on the hd2?
they can all cause reboots on multiple roms, along with another half a dozen reasons, i'm sure.
If the phone did reboot from any of those, it still wouldn't explain why it doesn't happen when I'm at school. I'm not exaggerating; once I go back (about ~126 miles away from home), it never reboots like this. At this point, you may be thinking, "Why not just wait to go back?" I have only two semesters left, and I want to get this fixed prior to me moving back here.
But nonetheless:

I thought this was the case at first as well, but I uninstalled all my apps on the barebone CM7 ROM, and reboots still occurred. Even after doing a fresh install of this CM10 ROM, the phone rebooted before I even began installing apps to it.
Are there any files that don't get changed by flashing a new ROM? I was thinking that it could possibly be the modem I have flashed to my phone, but I wasn't sure if flashing a new ROM automatically changes the modem as well. Can I get some insight on this?
By modem do you mean the radio? It's unlikely to be the radio itself, however it could be something like the phone struggling to switch between 2g and 3g,,try it with the phone in only 2g mode,, perhaps you have a faulty cell tower in your area,,unlikely but not unknown.
Yeah, sorry about the terminology haha. But thank you, I'll try that and report back!
So disabling the 3G didn't change anything, but I noticed a drop in the frequency of reboots when I disable my wifi. Could some of my router settings be messing with the phone? I tried deleting the network on the phone and re-adding it, but the reboots remained consistent.

still sounds like hardware really, as suggested.
does it reboot even with the phone in airplane mode?
But the phone doesn't reboot when I'm in the city where my university is located, only when I come back home. That doesn't really lead me to believe that it's the hardware.
I have the same problem with the
[1.Dec.2012][All in One] EvoHD2v10 ICS 4.0.4-full HWA "Fastest ICS ever"
it reboots more than 3x a week!!!!!!!
For me, it can literally get up to 10 reboots per day, when I'm in this particular city. It gets very aggravating, and I'm worried about the stress it's putting on the hardware by constantly booting back up.
Anyway, I decided to say **** it and start from scratch. I don't think it's a hardware problem, so I decided to go back to the beginning. I formatted and re-partitioned my SD card for Native SD-compatibility. I flashed Xylo's 4.1.2 PA ROM. Now it's time to use it like I would normally.
If anyone is experiencing the same problem as me, or reads this in the future with the same issue, I'll try to keep the post up-to-date with what stopped the reboots for me.
dont forget to clear out your sd card, , leftovers from previous roms can cause issues. Easiest way is to flash teh new rom, then immediately in CWM do a wipe data/factory reset, as this clears out both fat32 and ext folders.
AW: [Q] Can reboots be caused by location?
I had the same problem with my fathers HD2. I installed clK before and it rebooted the last time quite often.
So I reinstalled everything. I started installing the official HTC WinMo 6.5 Rom.
Then I've done Task29 and installed MagLdr and then a Radio which Supports 576 MB Ram. (I think it was 2.15.xx) , repartitioned it for BlueOrange Mix Rom 1.2 (The best I ever installed so far) and flashed it in CWM.
So the HD2 is running since 150 Hours without any Problems.
P.S.: Task29, MagLdr, Radio Installation and Repartition has been done in HD2 All in one Toolkit.
Greetings by Myself5 and I hope I could help you.

1- Hello guys, I have an T-Mobile USA HD2. I love it but it freezes like crazy, 2-3 times a day if not more. I ran Task 29 to delete every possible trail of previous roms followed by a hard reset but nothing. It will still freeze.
2- I also have a lot of signal problems. Its constantly changing from 3G to Edge on the same location. I know that is not normal so I spoke to T-Mobile and they changed the SIM card but it will still change the signal back and forth. I re-flashed couple of radios but nothing, I only accomplished to drain more battery.
3- BSB Tweaks is an awesome app but there are issues with the Rotation Option. If I enable Rotation to the "Start" -> "home screen" the photo album and music will be affected because the already come with landscape support. I tried to disable the landscape support for these using a registry editor but did not find a way.
Is there any solutions for these problems? Any help will be very much appreciated, not only from be but as well from others with the same or similar problems. Thanks in advance to all of you.
Note: I noticed the recently released TMUSA HD2s come with a yellow reset button. I bought my back on March when they sold out Nation wide with in the firs 4 hours and it comes with a RED reset button. This might explain a lot. If you know something please share. Thanks!
I would like to know if there is help for freezing issue.
I also did Task 29, flashed few different radios, few different roms incoluding stock, and it still happens. If my phone freezes I have to try for 20 minutes to restart it, as it hangs everywhere starting with bootloader, to manila.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had a similar issue as well and it turned out to be a cab file I had installed that was not compatible for my ROM. I had to go through and isolate which cab it was by using the date it was added and when I noticed the issues.
When your phones freeze....does it do it radomly or while trying to access or carry out anything specific. Your problem could be caused by any number of reasons but giving as much detail regarding your problem keeps you from getting so frustrated trying all sorts of fixes. Out of curiosity what ROM's are you both currently running?
I am currently using Elegancia ROM from August 23. Before I was using Energy ROM. I tried newest, stock Rom for T-Mobile HD2 but it didn't solve the issue.
I tried reinstalling HSPL, but it didn't help either.
The problem started after I put Ubuntu 0.2 on my sd card. I was playing with it for a little and it suddenly rebooted my HD2. I though, OK, no big deal, it's just in infant stage.
So I booted Windows again (energy rom with 2.12 radio) but it hanged while Sense was loading. I wasn't able to get it back to life after few reboots so I did a hard reset (vol up/down power on) It worked fine.
My problem mostly happens when I run android and when it reboots for some reason I can't get back to windows. It hangs, sometimes it hangs on bootloader before it even shows me radio and data version!! sometimes it goes past bootloader and hangs right after sense launches, and sometimes it is perfectly fine.
It also seems that when I just use WinMo it is fine, I can power down, and soft reset without major issues. But after running android I get that issues, especially when Android crushes.
I am thinking that android may be corrupting some WinMo files, but how is that possible? Android doesn't have access to NAND so technically it shouldn't prevent WinMo from booting on bootloader level.
Please let me know if you need me to explain more.
Thanks for your help

PS. I don't have any custom cabs installed at this point. I have super fresh and clean installation of elegancia rom
Yeah...Android may be the culprit. I have shyed away from trying it because I have talked to quite a few people (not on XDA) that have tried it on the HD2 and they have the same issues. The Android OS really makes the HD2 unstable. I personally am going to hold off on the Android bandwagon until a little more time passes, after all WinMo works just fine for me. Try just running on WinMo and see what happens. Based on what you have said, it runs fine as long as you are not using Android
yeah, it's is good idea to stay away for some time. But Android development needs testers. If no one is willing to test than there will be no improvement.
What I can't understand is that even after I do hard reset I still get freezes.

Yeah I agree with you on Android development needing testers. I do rely on my phone a lot for work purposes and I can't always afford to have the phone freezing up constantly.
Are you hard re-setting with the Android OS still installed?
Technically it is still installed but it is only present on the SD Card, and not anywhere else so it shouldn't matter. Next time I get freeze I will try to remove SD Card before hard resetting.
I tried booting few times with SD Card taken out, but it didn't help.

I have the same issue...i'm using energy rom and i noticed that lately its freezing like hell...at least twice a day...!! NRGZ already notice the freezing issue and is trying to solve it...but it still crashes. I'm constantly changing the rom as he updates...and right now i'm running the August 25.
Sometimes it crashes while being turned off...and i need to take the battery off to restart.
I had the same issue, all i did loaded a diff rom and formatted my sim card problem solved
I did format my SD Card many times. Did not help. I used recommended FAT32.
Yesterday my phone froze when I was trying to add program shortcut to Sense... silly.
I rebooted phone, it booted fine, but hang as soon as I went to check my TXT messages. Rebooted again and it is working fine until now.
I currently have Elegancia ROM with 2.12.50 radio, have not been using android for couple of days, but it is still there on my SD Card.
It is getting a bit frustrating. I wonder what else I can try to make it stop freezing.

My phone rebooted again yesterday.
I couldn't boot to windows for the next 20 minutes... I tried about 10 times before it worked. 2 or 3 times it booted windows and froze as soon as I clicked on one of sense tabs.
I haven't played with Android for past week and the freezing problem is still an issue. I even removed andorid form my SD Card.
When all this happened I was just using skyfire to browse internet.
I am hopeless at this point. I have no idea what else I could try to make it stop rebooting and freeezing.
Any ideas?? I would greatly appreciate any help.
PS. I recently found a thread about a tool that searches for corrupt files on Android devices after clean flash, is there something similar available for WinMo?
Here is the thread I am talking about:

screen doesn't respond to touch
I just started having this issue today. I have used darkstones most recent build from the 18th. it has worked perfectly till today. I use energy roms. i just installed a older rom today still have the same problem. this problem appears weither in droid or winmo. All the hard keys still function and the phone can receive calls. Thanks for any help you may be to lend.
my phone just froze again.
All I did was take it out of my pocket and unlock screen, and there it is: FREEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Funny thing is that Android doesn't freeze for me... it crashes sometimes, but never freezes. It is only WinMo that freezes on me or doesn't boot. Android always boots.
I really wish the NAND was accessible so I could flash Android to NAND and forget about WinMo

you, me and 17,000+ HD2 owners are all wishing for that exact thing
Your issue with the freezing/rebooting is stumping me too. You've flashed different ROM's, including stock, done hard resets, checked the battery pins, reformatted the SD card and even tried running the phone without the SD card inserted...do I have all that right? The fact that it doesn't show the symptoms when running Android just makes it that much more mysterious. I'd say it all points to a hardware issue, but if it doesn't act that way when you're in Android, that (probably) shoots that theory out of the water. But, at the same time, running task 29 and reflashing different ROM's should also have eliminated any possible software-based causes, so....
the only thing that comes to my mind is micro SIM card. I did an upgrade on my ATT account to get iPhone (traded for HD2) and those fu...ers at ATT wouldn't let me keep my regular sized SIM card. I had to use my old SIM card and cut it's inside to place micro sim in it. I used a regular sied SIM to hold micro SIM in place.
I don't think however that this is a problem because I believe my phone froze few times before I did that SIM card swap besides, I have no issues with phone calls or reception both in Android or WinMo.
I am clueless at this point.
I just got another Android version and will try it to see how it works. If I have any problems I will try using my wive's SIM card to see if it helps with freezing and WinMo booting.

EDIT: ANDROID just rebooted itself. 2 minutes after clean installation. geee, I am leaning towards Hardware being the issue.
What I did is:
1. open browser
2. go to google
3. search for speedtest
4. open speedtest.net
and Android rebooted itself and now my phone can't go past Tmobile bootloader logo (pink square with 'stick together' letters)
I will put different SIM inside now and try everything again

Good call, that's about the only other thing to try. However....have you tried running WM with sense disabled, to see if it still has the freezing/rebooting issues? That might at least narrow the problem down to something sense-related (which is easily the most common cause of any software-related issue on this phone)

I have NOT tried that but I will. The problem is that I often can't get past bootloader logo...
I modified my post above so please read it (I mentioned Android crashing)
thanks for all your suggestions
I just tried different SIM card. Phone booted fine to WinMo, and froze as soon as I clicked on Messaging tab in sense.
I will try to disable Sense for now.
I disabled Sense, rebooted WinMo launched Android repeated operation of trying to get to speedtest. Site launched, but phone rebooted after a while.
I am getting to conclusion that some software including flash causes my phone to reboot and then I can't get it to boot again..
Right now my phone is stuck again on bootloader. I already tried rebooting twice.
What I noticed is that every time my phone freezes it gets a little warmer in the lower left corner
What hardware is located in that area?
Hi guys.
Thanks for the great work you guys achieved!
I have been enjoying my HD2 much more these days.
I have been testing and flashing the nand roms on this forum and it seems all the desire roms are giving me a random reboot on my phone.
Not constant but at least twice a day.
I've uninstalled(or not installed any) apps or killer tasks.
The most stable nand rom I used without crashing much was the nexus rom.
Has the bug from Desire creeped into the nand rom based on Desire?
I've searched the forum and it says it could be corrupt data on the SD card
but I've cleared and formatted the SD card many times.
Any ideas what is causing the crash?
One key point is that my phone is in a flat where the signal is not very good so it is constantly looking for signal from the provider.
Apart from that I have all the HARDSPL 2.08, MAGLDR 1.11 installed and never had a issue flashing the roms.
Any advice or solution would be grateful! Thanks~
are you using an overclocked kernal? cause sometimes it happens when you are using it at full speed and starts rebooting itself, imho...
+1 on the Kernel theory here... Not all silicone is created equal, some phones can take the OC, some can not. Try and throttle it down with SetCPU.
Are you freezing up before the reboots??

Not just overclocked kernels, undervolted kernels also don't work well for some people.
OP: which build are you currently using?
Install SetCPU and dial it down a little. If you don't know chances are you are not OC'ed, but that doesn't mean your CPU isn't taking some pain. Bring it down to say.... 800 and see if it holds on. Worth a shot.

Okie thanks for the quick reply
Currently I am running DFT stock Desire rom.
I think I flashed the phone with every nand rom on this forum....lol
The phone will just reboot when left alone.
So I don't know if it is crashing or freezing.
Sometimes it reboots while charging and sometimes just on standby doing nothing.
Doesn't seem to be getting warm but maybe I can't really feel it as it is bloody cold in my room.
I will try the SetCPU option and see what happens.
It may as well be something that simply occurs randomly. I flashed jdms nand 2 days ago & it worked great, yesterday tho I had to reflash wm coz I needed to reinstall copilot & deactivate it so I could get it on android. Once I went back to jdms nand, I started getting random reboots. So I went ahead & reflashed a 3rd time & its been stable once again.

i dont have this problem, i testing my rom on 3 days without sim-card. And it work well.
Thanks for the help guys!
Dialed down to 806 MHz.
I will report tomorrow if it reboots or not.
I get really jumpy when my phone suddenly vibrates on me...lol
i had it 2day for the first time, dont know why . im using the standerd rom from cotulla. i had it on the table while i was on my laptop n suddenly
it reboot itself
Yeah its scary coz you never expect it.
Imagine you are on your own watching the Ring or something and the phone jumps up!-_-;;
also keep in mind that your mainboard in the hd2 could be the problem. Had those reboot issues in winmo 6.5 (sometimes when doing nothing but mostly when watching youtube/cpu intensive service).
So i sent my phone to a repair center, they replaced the mainboard and since my phone doesn't reboot > sod whatever again and believe me there are an load of faulty mainboard around sadly
Second that, this girl had the same problem and she just got a warranty phone (new)

I had no problem what so ever when using windows rom, and I used whole bunch of them.
Had freezing from time to time but never reboot issue.
I've searched and there is a whole forum and issue on the HTC Desire rebooting constantly....
The phone rebooted itself just now even with the 800mhz drop.
I am going reflash to stock wm rom and then back to the most stable Nexus Android rom and see what happens from there.
Those of you who haven't had this problem yet let me inform you that this problem doesn't start right away after you flash the rom, maybe couple of days or a week after it started.
Let's try and get it sorted out~!
same problems here, using mdj gingerbread 1.3
but its always freeze while running heavy cpu load apps like games, earth, youtube etc
tried donwclock to around 800 mhz but dont solved =/
Same problem here , randomly reboot.
I m using JDMS 1.62 , only happen on android , WM rom is working fine without reboot.
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem here.
Anybody running Nexus rom and still having random reboot issues?
Or anyone running Android on SD card without and random reboots?
Could it be the the data on the phone is rewriting the wrong information and causing it some process to fail and to reboot?
It doesn't seem to be the hardware fault(then it would happen alot more often as hardware fail will be permanent and problem would show more frequently) although I have read on the Desire forum people have been sending their phone back for motherboard replacement with mixed results.
Currently reflashing again!
I have this weird problem, and I can't figure out the cause.
Whenever I use my phone lately, it will randomly freeze/force close certain apps. It's super laggy. If I drag my hand/palm across the touch screen, it will stop lagging and perform all the touch commands that I had "queued" up. This seems to persist even though I just wiped+flashed my phone again.
I've got nandroid backups for my stock hero, CM6.1.0, and now I just wiped and flashed to CM7.0.2. Sitting in the CM7.0.2 setup wizard as I type this, and it's lagging like crazy. Is it possible my Hero is internally damaged somehow and that's causing the problems, or does it sound like software? My Hero has been through a LOT of bumps, some harder than any phone should have to endure.
Still, I'm strapped for cash and making the best of what I've got. Anyone got any ideas? Is it possible that I screwed something up using the adb shell when I was a little nooblet? And that said, is there anyway to wipe everything and start with a completely clean slate?

First when a rom is starting up, it's likely to be SLOW, for 2 reasons, kernels need to "warm up" and the market is probably downloading a crapload of apps (this is a new feature). Second, it sounds like maybe you're device is running low on RAM, I would suggest you get an app from the market called "autokiller" and set the preset called "optimum". Third, go into settings/cm settings/performance and then set your governor to interactive 352-691 or ondemand 264-691. Fourth, go read a LOT of the threads in here and learn some stuff that will help you. Fifth, what recovery are you using and what exactly did you "wipe". Sixth, what do you mean could you have messed something up with adb shell?

1. Yeah I know that. I hadn't had this problem until the last couple months. Until then, it was more or less okay. The problem is, it really is a completely fresh rom.
2. The Hero is kind of a low memory phone to begin with, so that's certainly a possibility. 2.2 and 2.3 aren't exactly kind on old hardware.
3. I don't have those settings in 6.1.0. I was using SetCPU for awhile with it at 480-7XX (Can't remember, I think 791, as that was max) and OnDemand. I had some screen off, temperature, and battery profiles too.
4. Any specific threads I should read you can suggest? I was lurking on the forums for awhile before I did anything to my phone (didn't want to brick it).
5. I'm currently using Amon RA 1.6.2. I considered clockwork, but some people said it has more problems. I've heard complaints that Amon RA requires signed packages, but frankly it hasn't been a problem thus far. It actually saved me from bricking my phone when I was new to this whole thing. As for what I wiped, I simply went through Amon RA and wiped data, dalvik, battery stats and rotation. Don't know what battery stats/rotation are, but I am familiar with the Dalvik cache.
6. As for saying I could have messed something up, when I was flashing my phone, it was something I'd never done before. It's certainly possible I mistyped something or screwed something up.
I was hoping someone could help me to completely wipe it and start fresh, since I'm sure it's had its share of problems.
I would suggest flashing clockwork. You can wipe more areas of the system then the one you have. And it has more features. I personally made the switch.
As for your lag, it might be your hardware. If you did a clean install and wiped boot, system, cache, data, and dalvik, and installed the latest stable release and it's still laggy? Then things are not looking good brother.
You experience the same thing on a sense base ROM?
also it could be cpu govenors because usually by default most roms have it set to ondemand witch has always caused problems for me and as soon as i set it to performance its fine.

What is RUU? How do I do this? I tried to search the forums but it said search was unavailable. Would this return the phone to 100% stock, no recovery software or anything? That's really what I'd like to do now, to make sure there's not a trace of rooting or flashing left, that way I can start from scratch.

I tried using RomManager to flash Clockwork, and it still booted to Amon RA recovery. I'm going to try to use ADB to do it, but I don't know that I'll be able to.
EDIT: Manually pushed ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7 onto my Hero.
Before I touch any of these settings, what will format boot, format system, formata data, and format cache do? Can it brick my phone, or will it let me flash a ROM onto a completely clean phone?
hmm thats very weird thats just about the only thing rom manager is good for now adays is installing cmr

You will not brick, that is how you wipe. You should also wipe dalvik cache. Go to this site for really good instructions :
www.romrepo.info/wiki
But please note when u wipe u "wipe" lol you will loose all your market apps and anything else installed just make sure you dont wipe sd card then youll loose all your photos and music backups exc...

So I downloaded the 2.1 update from the HTC website, ran it, and it completed with no problems. Phone booted up, and now I'm trying to go through the tutorial, lagging all the while. It's almost impossible to type.
Does this mean it's hardware related?
sorry for not posting sooner but lagg isnt usually caused by hardware the kernal probably has to worm up also is it the 2.27 software update or 2.3 because 2.27 lagged pretty bad anyway and if your typing with vibrate on keypress try turning that of it always helped me.

I had to start from scratch several times and my phone was pretty snappy when I first started it up after RUU. Also you stated your phone was fine and then just started running slow for no reason, was this after it took a bump?

sorry, RJhall..
I don't recall it taking any bumps before it just stopped working like it has.
However, I have found how to "fix" the problem. If I squeeze the sides of the phone in, it stops lagging and works. Any touch motions of queued up will then immediately execute. Any idea what in the phone is physically broken?

Never had mine apart, maybe someone has and can help..
Okay so things have gotten increasingly weird. It used to be that squeezing the sides of the phone allowed the touch screen to work. Yesterday that stopped working altogether. Today, the screen stopped turning on at all. The LCD simply doesn't turn on. Pressing the red button turns on the phone (it vibrates when turning it on) and when the phone is on, pressing the red button lights up the keys (so I know it's waking the phone up). I took the phone apart (much simpler than I thought it would be) but I was unable to find anything that seemed out of place or broken. Does anyone have any ideas?
Ok guys, I know that there are posts about random reboots but it seems non have a solid solution. My Hd2 has started doing these annoying reboots for about a week. I was using Tyweens NexusHD2 2.9 and all of a sudden reboots started. So I switched to Typhoon CM7 3.5.7(currently on phone now). Reboots still occur. So I did Task 29, wiped sd card, plus clean install of Typhoon CM7 3.5.7. Phone still reboots. It actually rebooted during setup. I even changed from Magldr 150/5(suggested) to 200/45 thinking it was memory related. Still rebooting. I have noticed it does it more when WiFi is on. Is there something with the latest Android 2.3.5 and Wifi? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No not at all.
I'm having the exact same problem... but strangely now even when I try older gingerbread builds, it does the same thing. Its only been recently, too... I've had the phone for a while and I don't remember it doing this.
I can have the, same build and same gps libs on my wifes hd2, and hers won't reboot. Mine will.
I even went as far as swapping out my mainboard with another one I had from a cracked screen issue... and that didn't solve the reboots.
I can't figure it out. It must be gingerbread and certain phones. Ive tried 2.3.5, 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 and they all are now rebooting. I don't know why its only been lately, too. The, only thing that solves it for me is running Tytungs NexusHD2 ROM v1.9 Froyo based. I can even add the latest agps fix and don't have any reboots. Only thing I really miss from gingerbread is the DSP bass boost which makes a huge difference for my bluetooth audio via my car.
Remains a frustrating mystery to me.

I always set this as my default wifi policy since I am always connected at home. So that's a no-go for that tip. At least for me, personally... still reboots.
So far the only thing that works at home is to turn off 3g.
I am trying Rafdroid 4.2 and so far has not rebooted away from home.

Rafdroid is a Froyo based ROM - same with the NexusHD2 v1.9g build that I'm using and so far no problems.
But when using any gingerbread (sense or non-sense) / CM7 build, I am getting those random reboots. Sometimes so much to the point where the phone is unusable. Then there are times when I could go hours without any. I thought it was something related to 2.3.5 since that's right around the time things started going strange, but like I noted - I've downgraded to 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 - and the same thing is happening. I used to use Hyperdroid GBX 7 for months without issue... now when I load it, it gives the same result. Same with Hyperdroid GBX v12, Hyperdroid CM7, Typhoon, stock bravo based CM7 Nightlies, AmericanAndroid, NexusHD2 Gingerbread version or anything Gingerbread based - period.
It also seems coincidental that the reboots started right around the time when Tmobile issued a bulletin asking for user input about recent unusual high battery draining with mobile data. I really haven't followed up and I don't know if it was determined what was causing it for some users but I am thinking maybe it could be possibly related. I can't explain why my wife's phone can run the exact same ROM and not experience the same thing yet mine does. It seems like an isolated issue - I don't see a lot of people complaining about the same issue lately. Maybe it has something to do with a specific mainboard revision/manufacturing date and some kind of over sensitivity to mobile data power output or something. As I noted in the prior post, I did switch out the mainboard with another one that I had laying around. I did take note of the revision manufacturing date stamped on the board, and they were identical. And both experience the identical problem. My wife's HD2 was bought 3rd party from a private owner at another time separate from when the 2 HD2's I have on hand were purchased. Perhaps she has a different revision/manufacturing date.
The two mainboards that I am having a problem with have a date of 2010/03/16 - they are both identical.
I would take apart my wife's to check her date and am willing to bet it's something different, but I've had really bad luck picking apart these HD2's the few times that I've done it. I've broken wifi coaxial cables and ripped flex cables. The date is stamped on the bottom of the mainboard.

I am wondering if specific phones that run Gingerbread are experiencing this lately because of this:
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/3544?start=0&tstart=0
Like I noted - perhaps it has something to do with an oversensitivity to 3G mobile data power output, etc.

Same behavior here - had random reboots multiple times per day until I switched to 2G only (only adjustment I made)....have not had one in over 72 hours of uptime now.

How would bad blocks be the problem if the solution is turning off 3G?

OK, I can now pretty much confirm my original hypothesis about the mainboard. I have switched it out with one that was manufactured in late 2009 according to the timestamp on the board, and that's eliminated this problem for a while now with Gingerbread entirely.
The exact problem is beyond me, but unfortunately I stick to my guns that it's a hardware issue. Not sure why it would affect Gingerbread so much more than Froyo but my guess would be it has something to so with mobile data power management or something of the sort.
So for those saying that turning 3G off counteracts this rebooting effect, try a good Froyo build to keep your 3G connectivity. The reboots didn't happen nearly as much as they did wile running Gingerbread for me (although I would get 1 or 2 every few days).
Unless you can get your hands on another mainboard... or another phone.
Replacing my HD2 entirely for now wasn't an option for me... it's the only "Android" phone that I can run with the grandfathered 5.99 Tmobile web. Any native Android phone is identified by tmobile from its IEMI and forced to upgrade to a smartphone data plan to work with mobile data. They just happen to allow legacy (less than WP7) Windows Phones work with that old data plan, which is what the HD2 is.

+1 switching to 2g sucks but works,my wifes hd2 works fine though like others have mentioned. this is crazy lol
BTW all these reboots stated for me when to mobile messed up their signals and was causing android phones to have high batt drain.
Where can i switched off 3G beacause i've the same problem with reboots?

I have notice mine does it when I am at home using WIFI and 3G is on. If I turn 3G off all is ok. When I am out and about I can turn WIFI off and 3G on and no problems. Wacky.
i had a similar problem on my hd2 tmobile with coredroid 1.6 on it..
Random reboots have become all too often, usually when i start applications and i did not want to waste any more time so I changed the rom...
I would get a random reboot every two our there hours until I took of all my widgets except for two and I haven't had a random reboot in about 2 days and I didn't mess with the 3g signals. but my phone still has battery drain issues

Hello! I've been using my Note 4 since its launch with no issues. 2 days ago the phone started acting weirdly. It would shut down without any reason. It doesn't go back to Samsung logo, it just shuts down without any warning. The strange thing is that when the screen is black I can feel 2 weak vibrations if I push the power button briefly. If I hold the power button the phone will boot normally. I've tried everything: system/cache/memory wipe, flashed new bootloader and kernel, I've tried 3 different batteries and tested that the phone is not overheating. I'm out of ideas right now. Can someone help me with that issue?
Same here. I'm suspicious of the recent Google Play updates (protect, services, instant apps, assistant etc.), but I don't know for sure.

Last sudden shut down 7 hours ago. So far it's doing ok. Some hiccups here and there, but nothing to write home about. If there's another spontaneous shutdown, I'm ready for a factory reset.
I don't know, sometimes it shuts down and sometimes it reboots. 3 reboots and 2 shutdowns today so far. I'm starting to think that the issue might be hardware related.

Nope, still no improvement. It might be an issue with the baseband. When the connection is down or LTE+ is stable it won't reboot/shut down. When I'm in an area with weak LTE connection it reboots when switching to Edge.

The device feels indeed much faster again. Since my SD card was close to full, it might be the reason for all of these issues.

Ok, weird! You can turn off edge in settings but I guess that doesn't really help you.
what I would do next is dirty flash the same firmware using odin (which will keep all your apps/data)
Are you using official firmware or custom?
Experienced another reboot even without the SD card. It's about time to flash the original firmware again.

Custom. I'm using Ramrom v11 with RamKernel. I forced the phone in WCDMA only (H+) and I didn't have any issue since then. I'm also using the latest modem version. Looks like it could be a problem with LTE switching to Edge.
Yesterday I performed the 5th full wipe and flashed the ROM again. Still got the problem when the LTE signal is weak.

It seems that my phone doesn't like my home. It only reboot indoor with LTE enabled.
Went to the Samsung Customer Service. Mainboard damage, most likely eMMC, they didn't say exactly. 300 Euros for repair.
If it happens after update 6.0.1 then
Remove battery and put your phone in front of AC for 5 min and then insert battery and try to start it .
After that install wakelock and keep your cpu awake
Hope this helps
