The most good Themes on Playstore are not free. Is there a good site for free themes or a telegram group for lg themes?
You don't think good themes are worth paying ~$2? Im sure if you have a G6, you wont notice $2 from your bank account.
I think the free themes from LG are boring and lame. Sucks there's not many free themes and I"m on a fixed income so i choose wisely if i have to buy one. i just finally found a green one I love so i paid for it without hesitation. That being said i miss my 10-15 free themes i had on my GS7. so much i can't wait to get another Galaxy though i hate the curved screens and fingerprint scanner placement. The G6 has the best working fingerprint reader that works for my fingers of the phones i've had. I don't understand why LG doesn't open the theme store to 3rd party developers so the themes can all be found in a central place. And why they have such dorky themes. reminds me of the dorky boring themes Google offered for the Chrome browser before they allowed third party themes. The G6 would do better if their theme site was more flexible, if they tweaked their camera software and other stuff that could be tweaked better and better advertising if they hadn't already. but then again the average person don't use themes, i don't know anyone personally who does even though i encourage them to take advantage of the cool themes in the Samsung theme store. The average person don't care if the picture is too blue or red or whatever. just look at the photos on Facebook people post. stuff that i would delete immediately like blurring or totally orange selfies with bad white balance. sorry i drifted off topic.
Have you installed smart world there's many free themes in there
Do themes have a performance impact on the g6?

They do allow 3rd party themes you just need a developer account on lg smart world.
I like this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.theme.pixel.ui&hl=cs
The phone looks much better, the original LG themes are so ugly and does not look good with icons of 3rd party apps.
And it is not so expensive, you can't expect somebody doing nice themes for free...

I wonder why nobody uploads there then? It would be easier to find themes when they're all in one place.

There is only a handful of theme developers at the moment, I believe some do but you can also find them on the google play store.

It takes some digging to find them on the Play Store. I already knew they were there. But it would be easier if they were uploaded to Smartworld where they can all be together to be found easier. Like Samsung's theme store and app. I can't wait to go back to a Samsung phone because of that. And other reasons.

Ok, I know I'm jumping the gun, but I thought this would be a good idea. We'll need somewhere to list and discuss apps for the Evo. I know discussions will go far beyond this thread, but a place to compile a list and links to download or for instructions or to troubleshoot and so on and so forth will be handy.
I'm not sure what I'm doing, but it appears the size of posts is limited and from what I've seen the thing to do is to reserve some space at the beginning of the thread to make helpful information throughout the thread easily accessible at the beginning so I'm going to reserve some space if I can.
Advice is welcome. Please offer advice. If I choke (and embarass myself) and end up not getting an Evo (not likely as I think I want it more than sex) or fail to keep the thread updated I'm gessing we have other options like an administrator letting someone else edit my posts or moving info to a better thread or something.
I'm thinking this could get to be a huge thread so I think I'll reserve 3 more posts. If that's too many I guess they can be deleted. If we need more can an administrator insert them? If you have ideas on how we should structure this please speak up.
Since I'm jumping the gun I guess the place to start is with what we think it will come loaded with and what we want it to come with. Eventually we'll just list what's available for the Evo.
I've never done this and may prove to be unreliable and considered just making this a suggestion so if anyone is experienced and gung-ho about it and wants to take over right now feel free to step up.

UPDATE 04/06/10 1145PM EST: LOL
bad idea?
Should I request deleting? I've never used Android so I seriously am looking for help finding, installing, and getting through issues. I know there are other clueless people like me also so why not make a one stop shop for the apps this phone can use.
One thing I think I may have just realized is where to get apps. I'm a winmo user and I think I've only bought one app and never understood why anyone needed Marketplace. I've downloaded apps from all over the internet and never even been to Marketplace. Are all (or most, or what) Android apps at android.com? I read there were like 30,000 android apps, but haven't seen them. I figured a market was an iphone thing.
Some of the best threads I've read were very well organized and were updated to make info easy to find. Some threads look promising, but get really long and you never know when you'll find what you're actually looking for. Maybe I just don't search well, but often what I think is a good search produces unsatifying results. This site is huge now and very difficult to search.
I really would love input from senior members and would like to know as much as possible before I get this phone. I have actually been worried about switching over to Android, but the new hardware and network seem too good(not to mention the new windows direction). I've heard good stuff about Android, but just don't understand it.
I'm worried about being stuck with just 5 or 7 screens. I know windows has to use apps to get it's multiple screens (UL, ilaunch, claunch...), but I haven't heard of anythig like that with Android. I've settled into touchflo and really like using the slider rather than flicking like I did with UL (especially multiple times to get where I want).
I'm under the impression the Android screens are customizable in that you can use shortcuts or widgets, but I'd like to have several full screen widgets (more than 6) and a launcher and a home screen with more info (even more than touchflo/sense on winmo). Is there anything like that?
Please tell me (and other untechies) about Android. Don't be a johnson. Sorry, couldn't pass that up.
hey I'm an asshole... and proud of it... I'm not known for my kindness
POW! -> http://www.androlib.com/
you say you want 5-7 homescreens now.... wait till you use it... you might use 3-4.... MAYBE... I only use 2, but hey that's me. Also if you are that freaking skitso there's a homescreen replacement out there with up to 10 or 13 or something absolutely retarded amount of homescreens if you MUST have that many.
You can customize like there's no tomorrow, makes winmo look like a gimped iphone in that respect. You can change basically every aspect of everything if you look hard enough.
Touchflow is senceUI... senceUI is touchflow... same exact thing. If you don't like your senceUI (what will come with the evo), you can do the vanillia android home if you want, or enjoy one of the many many homescreen replacements, of which there is about a thousand different themes for icons menus screens title bars etc etc etc etc etc.
watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZSeLuJBWDU
the apps don't run on the 5-7 screens, they're separate and "unlimited" based off of available ram, if you use up resources it closes the one android feels you aren't useing anymore to free up ram for your running app. It isn't as bad as it sounds in practical use, you won't notice it closing stuff in the background, the screens are only for widgets like in the video.
Like I said, customize your heart out. You don't have to be a rocket surgeon either, download a app, maybe a buck or two and go to town. There's free options, but it's not paying some big fruit company it's going into the developer's pockets so give them a buck if you like it. I have never paid over a dollar for any app I buy... and I have like 20 I felt the need to pay for. Small change in comparison to what I pay each month to use the phone... or what I paid for the phone in the first place.
Compare to a desktop or laptop and the amount of usage for a paid app... much better ratio of fun for price.
no need for this topic in my opinion, I'd recommend it be deleted, but it's your call if you feel like updating it with what you find useful in the link I provided.
I want a dollar for my time... thanks.

Most legit apps can be found in the Marketplace, both free and for $$. Off and on, you may see someone post up an app here that they're working on, but the eventual goal is to get it in the Marketplace for the most part. It seems that you went looking for Moby ****, and only found a white whale!

Sir, for that, I bestow apon you +5,000 internets
universal remote/dongle
Anyone know of anything like Totalremote from Griffin that can use the sound to ir converter for phones without an ir port?
I bought Totalremote with the converter off ebay to experiment with on my Mogul, but can't get it to work (it works on my ipaq). The Mogul just has no universal remote solution (unless I can get the ipod method from Engadget working, for which I'll have to get a male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm cord one of these days).
Since I have the converter I'm hoping there will end up being an Android version of Totalremote. I'm very hopefull since iphone is doing one using the headphone jack and since for some reason HTC has moved their jack to the top of the phone (makes you wonder).

Ok, so I'm thinking 40,000 Android apps to browse through might be a little overwhelming.
Anyone care to discuss/recommend their favorite or essential Android apps and perhaps throw up links directly to them?

this thread made me spit my mountain dew all over my hero. i hope your happy.
1)metamorph(rooted only; easily changes certain aspects of your phone whereas a flash might change others along with it)
2)wireless tether(rooted only)
3)facebook(not sense's watered down version)
4)estrong task manager (comes with a killall widget)
5)cachemate(makes your phone zippy when used correctly)
6)handcent(oh man...)
7)linda file manager(seems to be the best one, to me)
8)some sort of battery percentage widget(i actually havent settled on one yet)
9)picsaypro(mini photoshop on your phone)
10)google voice(google it)
11)iMusic+widget(limewire on your phone)
edit:
i compiled this list by simply sliding through my app drawer, but didnt even think; the fact is, with the latest 2.1 builds theres litterally NO i.s., so i do my best to keep my app download-age as low as possible. theres actually alot of apps i download, install, use, then uninstall. a fun game you can check out it What The Doodle?! online multiplayer...draw on screen your keyword, people try to guess. I cant remember the name of the other game...Attack!! or somethig. your a cow and you tilt the phone to jump from platform to platform (like teeter, but with a cow, and the final destination is a spaceship)
i expect with the evo i.s. wont be an issue (1g?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?) so maybe ill update the list as i feel the need to remember a long lost app and redownload it.
Calling all Laucher Pro lovers.................. Launcher Pro Plus was launched today!
http://www.launcherpro.com/
Taken from the Laucher Pro website:-
So last week I promised you big news coming to LauncherPro. It took a bit longer than I expected, but hopefully it was worth the wait!
One of the features I get requested the most is to support HTC Sense widgets. It seems everyone wants them. Because of the way these widgets are built into the HTC Sense launcher itself, this is simply not possible. And since not every Android user has a phone with HTC Sense, these widgets are not even available to all users.
Today I’m glad to announce a new milestone in LauncherPro’s history. Starting today, there’s a new version called LauncherPro Plus, which will contain several widgets, exclusive to LauncherPro Plus users.
Upcoming widgets include:
•People Widget – To quickly access all your contacts, or just your favorites, or a particular group. (Included in this release)
•Bookmarks Widget – Quick access to your browser’s bookmarks
•Friends Widget – Lists your friend’s status updates from Facebook and Twitter, and lets you update your own status too.
•Calendar/Agenda Widget – Shows you a calendar you can scroll through to switch months, and also lets you see your agenda for any particular day right within the widget.
•Messaging – Scroll through a list of your SMS messages or one by one. Quick links to delete messages, reply, etc.
I’ll be adding these widgets over the next couple of weeks. The “People” widget is available right now to LauncherPro Plus users. There’s going to be other features in the future that will be available only to Plus users too.
Pretty cool, eh?
Now, as you can imagine, LauncherPro Plus is not free. I’ve been working full-time on LauncherPro for the past two months without making a single penny. Obviously I can’t keep devoting all my time to it without making any money, so hopefully enough of you will buy the Plus version to keep the project alive.
The early-bird price for LauncherPro Plus is only $2.99 USD, and you can buy it today through Paypal using this link. The price will most likely go up once all widgets are included, so you’ll want to get in early to enjoy the discount.
I haven’t made it available through the Android market because unfortunately I don’t live in one of the few countries that Google allows to sell paid apps from. And there’s stil a huge amount of people (including myself) who live in countries where paid apps aren’t even available to purchase. (Way to go, Google!)
Another good thing about this new Plus version is that, if sales go well enough, I’ll be able to actually hire programmers to help me develop LauncherPro even faster. So even if you don’t have a use for these widgets, you should consider buying the Plus version to support the future development of LauncherPro.
Just downloaded this myself and although has only the one widget at the momnet the potential is certainly there!
Don't thank Google, thank you country's government for placing unreasonable restrictions on such things.
what are the chances that HTC will just sue him for copying their widgets?

When you install launcher pro plus you can see they are not the actual sense widgets. As for HTC getting nasty nothing ever happened to Weather Widgets or Fancy Widget how copy the HTC clock flawlessly!

I paid for : even for launcher pro he deserve this money. The widget is too sense-style for me (black-glossy theme).

I just hope he won't loose interest in updating normal version.
Normal and pro version completely the same. Only + for Pro is the widget.
I paid for it... as mentioned above, the dev deserves some £££ for his excellent launcher and having some extra widgets is just a bonus... personally I don't like the included contacts widget... the contact pictures looks awful!
c'mon keep his beer fund going. love this launcher bought it myself
Can someone please post some screenshots, so I can see how the widgets look? If they look nearly like the HTC's, I'll give it a try.

OMG CYDIA AGAIN... Get over it
Yeah I dig that Move2Unlock deal. Real cool!
DO WANT Move2Unlock!!!
can from anyone send this to CyanogenMod team ??
ــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ
i have tow great idea will make CyanogenMod better than now
1-Launcher
CM7 use ADW Launcher !! CyanogenMod famous Android rom and he didn't have special launcher !!
CyanogenMod should have special launcher
2-CyanogenMod Market
ok i think this is so great idea for CyanogenMod..CyanogenMod should have a special market like Cydia on iPhone..there r may Scripts , tweeks and others add-ons..so all that should go in CyanogenMod Market
that's will break iPhone and most of android users will come to CyanogenMod
ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ
you guys don't realize how much work development like this is. iphone and its mobilesubstrate framework (and the mods which can be built on said framework) are completely different than what is available to our devices. it would take a crazy amount of work to make something similar to what they have.
and with cyanogen, again you don't realize the amount of work put into it. why make their own launcher when there is nothing wrong with adw and anybody can and will install their favorite launcher? it would be a waste of time. the market would also be more work than it is worth, the idea of cyanogen is to have a modded and tweaked aosp type rom. if there are available tweaks they will already be in cm, not some market. and the way most of the tweaks work it would be near impossible to make it so people could download and install them without screwing up the whole phone.

Samsung Touchwiz has a move2unlock thing. Use the mobile Facebook site to save pictures. ADW Notifier https://market.android.com/details?id=org.adw.launcher.notifications&hl=en . Folders in folders is only needed because iOS limits the number of Apps you can have in a folder, Android doesn't. Does your Android phone have a retina display?
How cares about cydia I wouldn't want something like that on android or any roms like cyanogen roms cause it is basically an app for free paid apps and different types of tweeks you can do to your device.

you truly are insane. lets say there was a magical app called cydia for android. it still wouldnt make it possible to do the things you want. someone would still have to make the things you are talking about. and once they complete these programs why would they put them in cydia? the android market reaches way more people than some non existent 'special' market. so then the question is why use the cydia market? use the real market.
o yea and you are insane. i want to rebuild the android market for you with a different icon and renamed to cydia so you will be happy

cydia isnt changing anything.. the stuff you get from cydia does.

I was in the iphone development scene for about 4 years before android. the major reason Cydia exists is because of apple's stranglehold on the app store. they have very strict guidelines on what goes through. you will never see a replacement lockscreen or notification system or music app or anything that might modify any part of the system to make your phone customized more than a wallpaper.
Cydia is the place that developers who want to do more than just make a fart soundboard or a game and that is why it thrives, because it is the only way to get and distribute the apps and themes you can get through it. On android, developers put all their great tweaks inside their custom roms, and the market has way more freedom. There is no need for anything like Cydia.
In response to one of your comments... if you used Cydia you would see why people pick android over iphone.
(from the standpoint of somebody experienced in that community, Cydia has actually gone downhill recently, at least before I moved to android. most of what you find is a bunch of terrible and crappy themes, you spend way more time trying to find things worth downloading than you should have to.)

Well said! Cydia is not really a magical stuff or things. It's more like a repository of things where you can find themes/hacks for your phone. Way before Apple introduced Folders, Cydia already had folders and users are able to customise the icons of folders. Apple like the idea and incorporated it into their IOS.
Camera+ had the idea of using iPhone's volume button to take picture (instead of the usual onscreen-click-capture). Apple was mad at the idea and had Camera+ taken off the AppStore for about 3 months before Camera+ developer took away the feature of using volume-button to take picture. But again, with the upcoming IOS 5, Apple is going to introduce the ability to take pictures with the volume-button (apart from onscreen-click).
Cydia was at the forefront of Apple's IOS. The tweaks and hacks were easier to manage/code/tweak as there's only 1 physical product, the iPhone or the iPad; whereas in the Android market, the base code is shared out by Google but different OEM will try to brand their hardware/solutions.
My 2 cents.
Cheers!
I've used Cydia. I have an iPod Touch 2G. I found it terrible. Takes ages to update itself on my 30MB connection, it was buggy as hell, half the stuff didn't work.
If you really want Cydia and its "magical tweaks" that make everything brilliant like
Changing lockscreens (woo!)
Themes (woow!)
Wallpapers in the form of naked women (WOOPWOOP!)
Soundboards that don't work (wee!)

then get an iPhone and use a forum like iFans or iPD.
Sure, there are some good things in Cydia. Name me something there that we don't have in Android (CM7, Sense, MIUI, etc) I can only think of... erm.. nothing.

Have you even read the last posts?! Cydia is just an APP STORE! It is NOT magic!
And there's a lot of tweaks, just SEARCH!

1. you are completely wrong. the iphone doesn't even have a launcher. it has a springboard which is hooked into by mobilesubstrate through root access gained by jailbreaking and modifying the boot kernels and other stuff that even I don't understand. Cydia allows you to download some cool tweaks that android doesn't need because it has the functionality on its own.
2. it's spelled tweaks, dammit. tweaks, not tweeks. tweaks.

Interesting for everyone that likes the ICS original experience!
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2012/01/holo-everywhere.html
And here's another one.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/03/google-makes-holo-theme-mandatory/
" Meanwhile, it seems terribly unlikely that Google's new mandate will bring choice to the home screen, keyboard and dialer as well. We can only hope, right?"
So, unfortunately if you thought you can just magically turn off tw or sense? Wrong!
This only applies to app developers and it only mandates for manufacturers to carry png's and other theme elements from these native android themes in framework so that app designers can call upon them in his app without having to carry those same elements in their apps.

This is good news. At least third party apps will not be automatically touchwizzed. They will still retain the ICS look.
Since rooted users will also be able to theme the Touchwiz interface to look exactly like ICS, problem solved.
Holo will be required, but apparantly it's still permitted for a vendor to have its own overlay too...
Source: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2135159/google-looks-standardise-android-interface
when can we download from market?
Oh! Some *****ing will be stopped now nagging about pure ICS look and blah blah......
They will find a new subject now though......
This is good news.
Theming will be mandatory. Launcher and customizations won't. Until google puts its foot down (Which they won't... Yet.) to impose all customizations to stop (Which cannot... Yet.), then we will keep modded launchers, dialers, keyboards, etc. but with ICS theme elements (Colors, buttons, layout of settings and systems, etc.)
Google stands to lose too much by imposing all companies to stick to Vanilla. This though, is a very good start in the right direction... Baby steps. There are no variants of the iphone's theme, it's all standardized out of the box. Why would Android have to be any different? It just fragments the OS and providers further by changing all theme elements to their likings and by adding their own versions of apps.
The only advantage of every android player having their own theme elements is choice and variety of software.

because ios is boring and some people quite like having choice and something that differentiates different models.
hi guys
i have an s8+ running renivate ice note 8 port. problem is i can't seem to get substratum to work for me. i apply the theme without errors and when i restart nothing happens. i'm running magisk if that matters.
any help would be appreciated
...
Maybe the addon (sungstratum) is also needed for a rooted s8(+). I have used it without root and after rooting it still works fine on my s8
Make sure both Substratum and the Samsung add-on are installed from the play store and up to date, and that you're using up to date themes that support Samsung, also installed from the play store.

Exactly. Also, stress on the compatibility of the Theme with Samsung, click on the theme you like and read the description. If it supports Samsung, you'll find it listed there.
I had trouble with it, because there is currently no free "samsung-compatible" theme on the Play Store. I had to buy Swift Black($1.99) because it was Samsung compatible, and wa-la! That works just fine.

That's a nice theme There was a nice theme for Samsung released today too, Cygnus Substratum. I picked it up right away, I'd link it but since it's paid a I can't.

Substratum recent did a really dumb thing and broke every single theme that hasn't explicitly enabled Samsung support, suddenly without absolutely no warning or notice to devs or users. The best part is they didn't do it on purpose, they just have a bug that no one who knows how cares enough to fix. Ive literally pointed to the diff and line in the code that's broken but I can only get one person involved to even remotely care and they don't code (they do support/community stuff).
It's gotten ridiculous to the point of that I'm going to have to fix it myself, which means spending part of my weekend setting up Android studio so I can make a 5-10 line code change.
What's even more sad is that apparently some senior substratum devs are essentially openly hostile towards Samsung support now and apparently just killing it (despite it at least currently working almost flawlessly) for Oreo instead of keeping it.
I really don't want to have to fork substratum but it's one of the reasons I love this phone. I'm not going to buy a lame ass pixel 2 xl because some angry devs think it's good practice to screw over their users.
