So as we all know, this device has USB 2.0 which is way too slow to transfer my 50 gb audio files.
Does anyone know what is needed to transfer files over the MIMO wifi? Is there such thing as a WIFI direct but using the MIMO antennas so that I can transfer files directly between my OP5 and PC at 866 mbps?

I would love to know about this
If you use WiFi, you automatically use MIMO. (AFAIK)
You can use SuperBeam for WiFi transfers to pc

I see. Don't you also need to have a MIMO Wifi Adapter with WIFI Direct in your PC too? If so, do you have any recommendations on adapters? I found some MIMO usb adapters like this one: https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-WUSB6400M/
But I'm not sure it supports WIFI Direct
Will it make such difference in real world? I can get about 350Mbit over USB 2.0, over Wifi Direct about 470Mbit.

That's why I want to see if there's a way to use the MIMO antennas for WIFI Direct since each antenna has a bandwidth of 866 mbps.
I want to know whether there is a 802.11ac wifi adapter (all 802.11n and 802.11ac devices support MIMO connections) for the PC that supports WIFI direct so that I can transfer files wirelessly at faster speeds than USB 2.0.

Yes you also need a MIMO adapter in your pc.
Superbeam works with and without WiFi Direct.
You can have your PC, "cable" connected to a router with at least MIMO 2x2 capabilities. And OP5 connected to the router. Not sure about the WI-FI direct option, if it supports 2x2 MIMO.

MIMO Works for me. Although, I think data rates are based on CPU capability. So if you throttle your CPU Cores you will transfer at lower rates.

On the desktop side, I have an i7 6700k so that's no problem I hope. You said MIMO speeds throttle when the phone is at lower clockspeeds? Interesting... What would happen if you were to put the phone in performance governor?

Hey Atlantian, can you tell me the model of your WIFI adapter? And also what transfer protocol you use?
Alright, so.
I misspoke. I overlooked an issue that I had not noticed while using Superbeam.
I had to uninstall Superbeam on my PC and Android to notice this. The PC version doesnt support MIMO Direct. I had setup the SB = "Superbeam" the day prior to this post. and the data rates are based upon your routers capabilities.
Im currently using the Asus ROG Rapture Wireless AC5300 Tri-Band Gaming Router.
MIMO technology (MU-MIMO)
2.4 GHz (4 x 4)
5 GHz-1 (4 x 4)
5 GHz-2 (4 x 4)
I mistakenly skipped a step and turned my WiFi on when doing this.
Apparently, the direct connect doesnt work for "Android to PC" direct connect.
Sorry to get your hopes up... it was in error.
The solution is very easy. I installed MIXplorer from xda this is great file manager. In the option menu choose servers TCP server on device where you want to transfere files. Pick up the device from which you want to transfer the files run mixplorer long press on files or folders to select them go to menu and choose send to. Choose the found device and transfer files or folders. On the receiving device you can define also folder where the files have to be transfered, if not they will be placed to the root of internal storage or sd card.

Thanks for the tip, but I know how to use FTP transfer. But now the question is, can FTP transfer be improved over TCP connection with MIMO wifi?

You also have in the "Tools" folder in the Start menu something called "Internet Sharing", from which you can use either USB cable or Bluetooth PAN to share the connection. Also if you connect the phone with USB, you will get the option on the screen to share the connection.

You'll only get a couple of megabits this way because of the limitations of how USB actually works (and some bugs in internet connection sharing).
The wifi router way is the best route because it allows for true full duplex commications on the wifi side and you'll also get the maxium transfer speed from the GSM side. So you'll be talking about 7-8 mbps down and about 2mbps up (up load can be restricted by your provider though)
Many thanks folks ill give it a go

I've never noticed it with the USB cable. But yes, bluetooth is a bottleneck. For some reason my laptop refuses to connect to the wifi app provided with my HD2, so haven't tried it.
hi,
for me I prefer plug usb cable and sharing conexion, by this way I can surf and charge my batt by the same way.
I've made test , in 3G+ zone I've got :
ping : 100-150 ms
down : ~3000 kbps
up : 800 kbps
Testing it here but It's taking forever and a day to general.t-mobile.uk,using WI-FI Router
Hi,
I recently got myself a new Type N WiFi router. On my old B/G Wifi router my SGS connected with 54MBit/s as it is supposed to do.
I was expecting to see a connection speed of 300MBit/s now (I'm not talking about the effective transfer rate, just the connection speed) but instead my SGS connects with very variable speeds to the router but never exceeding 65MBit/s.
Is this normal or do I have to do some specific settings in the phone or in the router?
my notebook computer connected at 300Mb/s while my SGS is at 72Mbps. HD(720p) playback through network is smooth.
its normal, sgs has only one antenna, look it up, for 300 Mbit u need 3 antenna.

You are talking about the transfer rate, I asked instead about the connection speed. You might be able to see this logging into your router. Your slow transfer speed probably depends of the fact that you are connected with your PC through Wi-Fi too. Connect the PC by cable and your transfer speed will at least double.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
my all-time maximum is 72Mbps
and its not even effective
when transferring files it uses about half of that speed
720p is indeed smooth
Not sure whats the trouble with my N7. My Win 8 laptop fails to see it in the MTP mode. It does see it sometimes if I change to PTP but then the data copying capabilities get limited.
I was trying to capitalize the "WiFi Direct" to move files from my Note-2 to N7 but looks like there as well are some problems. I can pair but I can't transfer no files.
Are there any options other than the USB OTG? I personally hate carrying extra stuff, however small it be. Since the phone would always be with me, its the most logical thing to carry all the data (have odd 40gigs available) on the phone and transfer to the N7 wherever the need be.
Anyone ?
Bluetooth?
If you don't want to go otg then I don't see any other option if wifi won't work.

Bluetooth is slower than a snail.
The issue is some frakked up rights issue. The devices pair fine via wifi. The transfer gets rolled down by some "Transfer not allowed" $hit. Even NFC doesn't seem to be complying.
I am very sure some custom ROM would get that fixed but then what is the point? I need pure google experience.
May be some app on play store?
In the worst case I'll sell this thing off. The Note-2 is good enough for most of my needs except for movie watching (and book reading (and internet browsing (and timely updates (and simplicity (and.....:silly))))

Good option while at my home but not when I am on the move. Transferring big files is again a hassle. Not to mention the data network dependency. I just need something which can workout directly between the Note-2 and N7.
Installhttp://fdmobileinventions.blogspot.com/p/fast-file-transfer.html on phone. It uses WiFi tether in your phone. On tablet to receive file(s) you need to connect to WiFi and enter link in browser. I bookmarked link for easy use.
No data connection on phone required.
I've used AirDroid to transfer files between two Nexus 7 tablets. They need to both be on the same WiFi network so it is not direct. Just install and start AirDroid on your Nexus. Then direct the browser on your Samsung to the web address and enter the password - both listed on the Nexus. Files can be transferred in either direction. No need to install AirDroid on the Samsung.
You can also connect your Nexus to your PC this way.
Nexus Media Importer is another possibility. It will import files from a flash drive to your Nexus over an OTG USB cable but will not transfer files from the Nexus to the flash drive.

Thanks to both of you but unfortunately thats not what I am looking at. I wish to have direct transfer, without needing any extra wifi router to be dependent upon. At home I have this Belkin N600 to which I can attach my 1TB USB drive and all the data is available over the network. Accessing stuff at home is not a problem. On the go, I don't have high speed internet or my LAN. Thats where I am seeking possibilities.

You haven't read well enough. You don't need WiFi router nor data conection with 'fast file transfer'. it uses wifi tether from your phone and sends files directly to your tab. Try it, its free.
There are a few things with the S4 that I'm confused with. Maybe I'm just a bit slow who knows. :silly:
1) When connecting to WiFi how do I know what speed? How can I tell if it is connected via Wireless N or AC? (I have an AC router)
2) In order to share content with a WiFi connected TV do I need the Allshare Hub or not? I have a Samsung Smart TV but I know with the S3 I could not share all the content without that hub because the TV didn't have the necessary feature. Is this the same for the S4?

I'll answer to the best of my ability:
When you are connected you will be on A, B, G, or N. I don't think it does AC. To see your speed /information click on the wireless connection section then click on your router. Don't click forget or disconnect but it should expand and give you information about your connection. You can also download speedtest from the play store and run it while you are connected
2.) I have two Samsung TVs. I am able to connect to the newer TV because it has the Smart information built in. Depending on your model you may have to read your TV's information to see how to do this. What model is your TV?

The Samsung S4 has wireless 802.11a,b,g,n, and ac support.
I also run a wireless AC router. However I don't see anywhere near the 1.3Gbps rate. On 5Ghz I see 200Mbps (what I would expect from a single-antenna wireless N 40Mzh band) and on 2.4Ghz I see 39Mbps (what I would expect on a single-antenna Wireless N 20Mhz band) I don't see the bonded 40Mhz 5.0Ghz & 2.4Ghz bands. To get that I would have to go "Bad Neighbor" and open up my 2.4Ghz band to 40Mhz (would knock more than a few neighbor's wireless nets down), but even then it does not seem that the S4 has the config settings to enable two open connections (both 2.5ghz and 5.0ghz) needed to enable the 802.11ac protocol.
Your TV receives shared media via DLNA. You can use allshare to enable your S4 to share media -- the TV should detect you if it is on and your wireless is running and your TV had a wireless/wired connection to your router.
So the AC is better than a,b and so on. If not what one is and how do I get it lol

So in theory can I go off of a speed test to determine whether it is achieving better than N speeds? Just trying to tell whether it is actually connected to AC or not. Can't find any place in the router settings that is giving me that connection info.

I was probably not clear enough on this. Thought there was some functionality with the Hub to share basically anything on the phone/phone screen to TV. Not just media stored on the card. Screen mirroring, etc. I could be wrong.

Yes, AC has the ability to be faster. You will need a router with AC capability. As stated above the S4 does show it with AC hardware in the specs. Trying now to figure out if I am utilizing it to fullest. Will have to go back into the router settings and see what I can dig up.
