S8 sim unlock service for Freedom Mobile in Canada - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Has anyone found a reliable sim unlock service for Freedom Mobile in Canada?
I have already tried 3 companies and all of them told me that they can not find my S8 sim unlock code from Freedom.
What is so special about Freedom's S8 phones?

The CRTC changed the rules for locked phones in Canada. In December of this year all carriers have to sell unlocked phone and unlock any that people already have. I'm going to wait so I can get it unlocked for free.

This is nice.
I will try to wait but there is a small chance that I might need my phone unlocked before Dec.

If i got my tablet through EE in UK but don't use a sim ......

I bought my tablet on ebay, and that person got it from EE, but i bought it with no intention of using a sim or mobile data and use it only as a wifi only tablet, i got it for under the price of a wifi only tablet so was very happy.
i am just wondering about the 4.3 update and if i get it from Sony or EE? i keep trying to update via pc companion but it keeps saying already up to date which i know not everywhere has it yet.
If i do get my update via EE then does it matter that i am not using a sim card thats connecting to them?
james
I shouldn't think so, but if you get problems, let me know as I'll make a t mobile/ee ftf for 4.3 when it comes available.

[Q] Anyone tried unlocking their Note 4 yet?

Since I travel a fair bit, I usually only buy unlocked phones.. but this time I got a locked Note 4 so I'm looking a place to unlock it.
I came across this for the note 3
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-note-3-how-unlock-sim-free-1442071
Does anyone know if it will work for the note 4?
Recently unlocked mine for 16£ used the company on link below. Have used them a few times very reliable if I may say.

I've used cellunlocker on most of my devices in the past and I used it again for my Note 4 but for some reason, it took them about a few days to get my unlock code because they said they weren't able to get it for due to some database issue. They said they would issue me a refund. After the 5th day, they eventually were able to get my unlock code.
Note 4 (Vodafone UK)
I can confirm
that www.cellunlocker.net
yesterday after 8 hours sent me the NCK
for my Note 4 (Vodafone UK)
so finaly I can use any SIM card from now!
The price for this was $39.99 (£27.19)
which is great
compared to North London street guys (£40-£45)
or to Vodafone (£19.90)
who was unable to give me this code
because they don't have it for my IMEI in their database!!!
Well done www.cellunlocker.net
Good job, I am happy.
I just purchased a code for my Vodafone Ireland Galaxy Note 4 because I also travel a lot, so I'm hoping for the best! I'll report back
I unlocked my EE PAYG Note 4 yesterday for £8.99 (the unlock code was bought from EE) it is now unlocked I have a vodafone sim working in it. However, the 3g/4g is not currently working and I do not know why??? I even went into the vodka shop and the guy has just swapped the sim but I really do not know what is happening. We suspect that vodafone had updated it computer systems and I have come into logger heads with it; or my ee software on the note 4 is causing the problem??

Look up the Vodafone (UK I assume) 4g APN on their website as that might be the reason you're not getting 4g. I know my provider has a specific APN for 4g.
Also, enjoy your vodka.
My problem is a little more complicated at the Vodafone server end as they are having difficulties even giving me a working sim card, as my phone number has become corrupted as I swapped my sim card in the shop, this is viewable on my phone info where I have no phone number visible and when I go through voda help line my mobile number is not recognised. It is a complete mess, but I will be receiving a new sim this week and by that time my PAC should have swapped over and hopefully it will all be fixed????

Cricket variant?

I want to buy the s8 plus on launch day, cricket said they will have it available, im gonna pay it full price but i want to know if it will receive ota updates and software support. i went to best buy, target and att and they said i cant buy the phone full price, i have to finance it. i dont want to wait till may to buy the unlocked version
Have a buddy that has the att model buy it using heir account and you give them back cash. If not then you'll have to wait for the unlocked model. The cricket version will likely. Not be cared for sl that just and you'll be stuck on it dated software compared to the other variants

Verizon Pixel Bootloader Unlocking Discussions

I'm from a country that official google store is not available, so I have to purchase Pixel via a seller. Since he's got only Verizon version, I cannot change to a Google edition to get bootloader unlockable.
My phone is already updated to android 7.1.2 so depixel8 will not work on my case, I think there are a lot of people like me hope to have bootloader unlocked.
There is already a thread discusses abt Pixel XL: Verizon Pixel XL - Unlocking Discussions
If there is any a method available it should be working on both phones. So If anyone figure out a way please let us know.
no method for the Verizon pixel unfortunately. so as for now, we are out of luck...

It seems that some NEW Verizon Pixel got unlocked: Bootloader unlock on NEW Verizon Pixels
It might be because of the SIM or They are just lucky
Anyway, mine is still not unlockable. This is so crazy.
hope unlock come soon

Literally took 3 phones out if my stock and can confirm that it's the sim. I unlocked mine on 7.1.2 using fastboot OEM unlock commands.

SIM has nothing to do with it. This has been looked into countless times already. Yes some people get unlockable devices from Verizon.

It is NOT the SIM. If that were the case, then all the Google store versions would get their bootloaders locked as soon as a Verizon SIM was installed. That is NOT the case. Some people are just getting lucky for whatever reason, and they are getting Pixels with bootloaders that are able to be unlocked.

You do understand I work for Verizon and have as many of them as I need to check if it's the Sim right? And I have
It's not the Sim. I received a replacement from asurion and it was branded Verizon on the box. I never put a Verizon sim in it and OEM unlock was greyed out right from the start. Still greyed after connecting to WiFi, still greyed after updating to Android O, still greyed after inserting an ATT Sim.
---------- Post added at 05:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:52 PM ----------
As was already stated if it was the Sim then even Google store pixels would get locked after being used on the Verizon network, and fact of the matter is they aren't. I know of multiple Google pixels on Verizon network that are still unlockable

Correct, the Google Play Store pixels do not have locked bootloader regardless of the SIM that is in them. I have a pixel from the Google Play Store, and a Verizon SIM. My bootloader has been unlockable from day one. The SIM simply has nothing to do with it. The truth is no one knows for sure, but logic say that the IMEI's have a black list, and a white list, and for some reason Verizon is letting go of some Pixels that are on the white list. Could be Google, and HTC not being able to supply as many as they need.

As much as I wanted it to be sim-related (so i could potentially unlock my replacement) I'm a firm believer that it is not and most likely is an IMEI black/white list of sorts. I've talked to both Google and Verizon regarding the matter and both deny having any knowledge of why they become locked...although I didn't really expect them to admit it.

If you look through the Droid-Life archives, they have a post that said they point blank asked Verizon if the bootloaders on the Pixels that they sell would be locked, and they said yes. In the beginning they were, and the only way to unlock them was with depixel8. Then I think it was two security releases later they patched that hole, and if you took that OTA without having unlocked your bootloader you were screwed. It's only in the last couple of months that people have been reporting that they have gotten phones from Verizon with bootloaders that are able to be unlocked.

No, it didn't come with a Verizon SIM. They don't come with carrier SIM's from the Google Play Store unless you get them with a Google Fi subscription. Then they come with a Fi SIM. They are carrier unlocked, so all I did was put in the Verizon SIM I already had.

OK and did you unlock before or after you put the Verizon SIM in?

T-Mobile bootloader unlock.

Just so everyone with a T-Mo variant is aware. Calling T-Force does still work. Tell them that you are a developer for work and need access to the bootloader unlock which is tied to the device unlock. As long as you are s good standing customer and the rep feels they can trust you, you're golden. Took me about 5 minutes
