From trying to educate myself on rooting my S5, I feel like it is much more difficult than older phones. So many different versions of the phone and each one seems to have a different set of instructions...I want to slap a nice, fast, light rom onto it, but damn. I'm intimidated.

No, it isn't. In fact it's one of the easier phones to root. You would know that if you had read even a handful of threads.
Simply reading half a dozen sticky threads and a tutorial or two would answer most of your questions. Your questions have been asked and answered countless times in existing threads too. So a search would provide you with even more targeted answers. There is nothing hard or very intimidating at all unless you refuse to read a few threads. If you don't want to do that, then ask a personal friend to root your phone. Or pay a cellular shop to do so.

Finally someone gets it.
For the sake of clarity it should be said that it is hard to root S5 with a recent firmware without tripping Knox.

Also, I can't root my S5 because the kernel is too new (and the model doesn't have an older one). Seemed to be a lot easier with my S4 ages ago.

^^^ What he said.
Easy peasy.
Old HTC's used to rely on witchcraft..... dark rituals and moon phases.
The S5 truly is easy peasy. It's just a bit daunting tweaking your state of the art 500 quid technical masterpiece. What's the worst that can happen......?
sent from my Nokia 3310.!!!
Has anyone thought about it already? I'm no developer myself but I think it would be a cool inclusion to have it on my Note 3 (Exynos) . What i mean by this question is that, could we emulate the software of the edge screen,by taking up a part of the Note's screen which acts like the actual curve on the Note edge and displays notifications and important stuff. Any comments? If anyone is willing to try, I'll be a tester. Thank you
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum.

Seems like it currently is in the Note 3 section. My bad for posting it on the wrong section. I hope the devs give a shot about this feature
There's no question that it could be done, but frankly, I don't see it happening. An overlay or sidebar or widget or something with the same sort of features would probably be doable, but true 1:1 'emulation' seems like it would involve a ton of modification to the framework.
Oh well. I wish some widget sort of a fully functional thing can be made possible by the devs. (Hopefully). Thank you
Hi
I know there are a few good developers working on it, but they all seem to get stuck. I understand Samsung changed a lot on their version of ART, but just wanting to know if it's an impossible task and we might never see Xposed on Samsung Galaxy S6 or there at least is a tiny chance it's available.
Also, since it's against the rules to do crowdfunding to give some x pro developer the device, I know it's allowed to make a bounty.
So do you think the problem is motivation for getting it on the S6 or is it just an impossible task?
If it's the first, we could make a bounty and the developer who gets it working gets the bounty (just like bounty roots and so on).
Xposed for the S6 is already being discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/xposed-framework-samsung-lollipop-t3113475
There was also a bounty thread that the mods close already:

No, they just discuss Xposed for Samsung Lollipop, but that doesn't work on x64 devices.
He just put bounty in the title. It was a crowd fundraiser to give @arter97 a Samsung Galaxy S6, which he already got now tho.
I meant a bounty, where the Samsung users donate and the developer getting Xposed to work on SG6 gets the money. That is allowed, as the mod also said at the last post, in the second thread you posted.

Tiny chance.
@arter97 and @wanam I just talked with @rovo89 over mail and he will try to work on Xposed for the S6 (but can't promise when it will happen or if it's ever gonna happen. But when he got the time, he would work hard for it, he said... But again, can't promise anything. <--- Important part. Be aware of that when you donate. He will try, but can't promise.), if we crowdfund one to him through donations. He said this worked to get Xposed for the Nexus 5.
In the development thread, I saw you guys were getting closer with some new logs (great work you guys are doing and all we non-developers really appreciate it).
But before we do any thread to start donations for the S6 to Rovo, I just want to know if it's needed. With that I mean, are you getting so close you think you can handle this "alone" or would you appreciate Rovo on the "team" on getting Xposed to work on the S6?
I would like to hear the opinion from someone who is well versed in this topic. I think this forum is the right place for my following Question.
Recently I noticed that the hardware of Sonys Top Model "X1000v" is pretty much the same as the cheaper one "AS200v". Would it be possible to make some kind of a firmware-port of the X1000v to the as200v? And if yes, would it be very hard?
Thank you

First thanks to all developers, who makes mi a1 more flexible with Thier custom roms,I here to make some request to you developers, people's here getting bored of trying android 7.1,8,8.1 versions with the same source, all developers making the same rom with different names,we all are looking for something interesting like UI,themes and launcher based roms, pls make some moded roms with UI of miui, flyme os,samsung,Baidu will make mi a1 more interesting, ppls who like to support this theard write your suggestions to know those developers with all respect, thank you, have a nice day
I don't want to be rude. But why would you post it here of all places?
1. No developer is going to even read this post unless it creates a "boom" on the internet.
2. These ROMs are, and will be developed the way Google and other corporations want, and the way they'll get the most money off of it.
3. If you are that desperate, make the ROM yourself.
Have a great day.
I will try not to be rude, and i am sorry for if it feels that way.
First of all, if you are requesting, why make a Q&A thread?
Secondly, the ROMs which you currently have are highly customizable; yes they are all based on the same vanilla android, but that cannot be helped unless somehow Google is to release new android versions every month; moreover, each of these ROMs them have their own unique features to an extent. You can theme your phone to your liking and you can change to any launcher you want, so i don't really understand what is your request?
As of the MIUI, it might come as a ROM for the device in near future and for the others I don't really think anyone would want TouchWiz running in their phone instead of vanilla android.
You can literally do loads to customize your device and would suggest you look into it deeper.
Ok I will try to be rude.. just stop requesting roms. Devs work on their own free time. And you have no right to ask for roms.. if one day someone does decide to port miui or others. It will not be because you requested.
"people's here getting bored of trying android 7.1,8,8.1 versions with the same source", speak to yourself.
Also, if you are tired of stock feeling, why the heck did you buy an Android One phone??
Let's follow the forum rules, shall we?
I'm sure he has gotten his answer already.
OP didn't even asked a question in the first place. Oh, wait, shall all answers begin with a fake "I don't want to be rude but..."?
It's not fake. It's true. I just said that you should mind your language.
