Are you sure that is stock Android on your K8?
There is not any root method at least not here, only for 2016 model, I doubt it will work with 2017, it will probably harm device.
However it can be possible that phone is lagging it's not flagship but it's not weak device my 2016 K8 works very well. Would you mind to explain lag and when it happened?

Its not exactly stock android but the design kind of is. My mom is using the k8 2016 and its way faster than my 2017 version. i figured out the lag issue is because android system itself is taking up 800 mb (this is without me installing anything at all. basically after i formatted i checked and it was 800 mb) and the ram is 1.4 gb so only 400 ish mb remains or 500 which makes it really slow. Also sorry for the really fast reply :3 didn't have an internet connection for a while.

I don't think I understand you or you don't understand something. I have 2016. K8 and system is taking up 2.6 GB and I have 1.5 GB of RAM so not ever will all system will go in RAM it's not even possible. Are you talking about 800 mb of RAM is taken by system? 700 MB is fine for apps except ones who need a large chunk of RAM, but even then Android will push out something out of RAM to make place for that app. Check for OTA updates, i still doubt phone is lagging, I mean it is budget phone but still..

maybe im not able to explain. The phone has been lagging since I took it out of the box. I got the OTA update i did that as well. I formatted a couple of times even. I have used alot of phones till now. Phones with 1 gb RAM tbh is faster than this. I used the k8 2016 and trust me it was faster than that of the new 2017. i hope the screenshots help. Also u can see the notification thing is different.

To be honest I think something isn't right here. Because that is not how LG phone tiles look like, indeed this look like pure Android without UX on top of it, I don't know if LG started shipping phones with pure Android on them or is something else, would you mind go to settings and take screenshot of software info page?
However on these screenshots you provided it's average use in last x hours(to me there shows that chrome use 2.9 GB which is not possible), to see current go to developer options and to "running services.
It is K8 2017, idk why LG decided using stock-ish UI instead UX4.0/5.0 like K10 2017. It has the same (if not better) spect as 2016 version, and I don't know what causes the lag. Either some junk app/screen overlay app/bad software optimization.
From my experience, 2016 version has performance problem with some screen overlay apps like easy touch, bluelight filter, etc. But even on low ram apps still runs quite smooth.

Yeah I see, I did some digging and in YouTube there is two kinds one with UX and one without it, maybe I'm mistaking maybe both are stock I'm not sure how nougat under UX looks like. However they released k8 2017 and mediatek version runs nougat as I can understand (Russian edition and some other countries) and qcom versions runs nougat. LG never fails to amaze me with their actions, I mean seriously?
Any update in this tread? I've bought k8 2017 just a few hours ago. Besides the lag it also have this pop up ads which i cant get rid of even after removing their free apps.

Wait, so you bought brand new phone and it started to show popup ads, you didn't install any apps? I can't believe what some carriers do to the phones. Wait what stock browser? LG browser? I didn't seen it a long time on LG phones the seems to be moved to chrome. If it isn't new than you should flash stock firmware. In which country phone was bought, and what is exact phone model number?

Model number: LG-X240k .I don't think it's the carrier's fault because I bought the phone in an LG store it self. The UI is the same as op. I also notice that Android OS (Android 6.0) takes about 900mb~ of memory without any running apps I have J5 prime with the same os only take about 300-400mb.

Well you are right it's not up to carrier because you didn't bought phone from them so it's not under contract. It seems they have ****ed up heavily.
Don't look on that, that information is not reliable.
My mom got this phone too, just a couple of days. She asked me to install facebook and messenger app. To be estimated, I finished it for almost two hours. Becuase I need to install shareit and play services as well before shareit will work. Damn phone very laggy or may I say very slow. One app took more than 3 to 5 mins to finish. She got LG-X240.

Pretty sure, mine is K350K it lags a lot when scrolling on recent menu/multitask manager/whatever you called it is which is painful. Must be some lazy ass rom developer from my country's model. Hell not even any updates since sep-15 2017 (v10d), which is worse btw coz system root cannot be modified. This phone is officially abandoned I believe.

LOL, I even play DriftSpirits and Dirt Rally with mine while using an app called "Dimmer" (I stopped using Bluelight filter because it had ads) and I do have a lower fps while using it, but its nothing terrible.
About updates, I dont update since I installed its day one firmware and rooted it, so I can't tell if mine's still gets updates or not.
My main problem with my k350z is that I can't write or delete anything on my SDcard since I started using link2sd.
since then, I had to use my PC every time I need to manage my files.

You're using Adoptable storage on it? I thought about using it but I thought link2SD would be easier.
Is there any bugs in doing it? I think it might not be a good idea since my 32gb card is a class 4.
would you help me in doing it? I already know how to do it but it is good to have someone that did it near in case I screw my phone up.

Have had my n7 since they came out (32g WiFi) and love it.. Lately she's been running real slow. (Official cm11).. If I do a full FULL wipe and drop an official 5.0.0 image on it, think that will help get some performance back? I know the internal memory type is a big limitation, any way to format it and maybe clean or speed it up?
(I've done the usual, wrote and reflash, open space, stop apps at startup, speed up tricks...)
Thanks..

A full wipe would more than likely help right now. Although with 5.0 a few weeks away, its best to wait until then. You could flash the official 5.0 factory images once they're up, or someone's bound to make a stock rooted 5.0 ROM also.
If you can't wait you could try experimenting with the f2fs formatting, there's a how to thread and a good selection of compatible ROMs available. In haven't tried it personally but most users seem to notice significant improvements on their N7.
I would suggest to install a diagnostic app like diagnosis by darken and read a report of how apps eat your cpu/ram instead of going the process of backuping and formating.
From my experience apps which slow a device
Facebook
Viber
WhatsApp
And most of the messaging apps.
A clean install of any Android version would help. ?
I would suggest using a cleaning tool like SD Maid by Darken and formatting your Cache/Dalvik Cache.

Finally managed to get FB uninsulated (took 20 minutes) and it runs smooth again. Not sure what the hell FB app did, but it was pretty crazy. I tried it again and same thing.

I recommend the Facebook app below, its based on the browser version and it a hundred times lighter than the official app. Doesn't have access to the permissions (basically everything) that the official fb app has either which is better.

Unsubscribed from fb beta right now because it was making problem on my htc one aswell... Fixed problems on the HTC, but the nexus...still no go. Sometimes it works...normally (my HTC is faster, but is not horribly slower) but then I looses it all and starts lagging so badly I put it down and dont use it for 2hours, and then it's okay again...

Same problems here. I have hangups amounting to tens of seconds doing what used to be otherwise instantaneous actions when the tablet was new.
The question; is this performance degradation related to component aging or software-related? Our N7s are more or less out of 1yr warranty now and I am wondering whether there will be any traction with ASUS about a flaw which was present at purchase? Components crap out of the door outlasts a claim on fault developments in the wild.

2 things. A bloated system and cache will slow things down. And for me... My N7 seems slower every time I upgrade my phone. Lol
Wipe it clean and start again with fresh stock install. ?
Hardware doesn't slow down. It works, or doesn't work... Or can work intermittently if it's damaged. But not just slower.

Then go to the last version that was fast? Or a good custom rom?
My point was and is... Hardware doesn't slow down. It may break or become erratic.. But not slower.
So the issue is on the software side. ?

How does google even thing about putting out something that's so slow?
Are they desperately wanting us to switch to the nexus 9?
This is my last tablet I ever bought.
So anyone has 5.0.2 allready?
I have it. I see no difference. The tab freezes for about a minute sometimes when using chrome. Dolphin is even worse. So most of the time i get these freeze ups and the whole tablet becomes unresponsive.
Anyone else?

As mentioned in the root or update thread, the OTA updates contain only patches to the binary code and not full source. It'll have to come from Alcatel.

I am not sure if it is just me - but at least this part is NOT fixed. clearing open apps still has the same stutter that it had before. I restored the animation scale back to 1x and that has not changed anything. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be.
The app launching appears to have improved *slightly* . Whether double tap is more reliable remains to be seen. The update did not reset my launcher setting i.e. it did not revert to the stock launcher .
Overall - so far , I am not seeing anything worth getting too excited about - Not so far at least.
BTW - just to confirm - I now have Android version = 5.0.2 Kernel version = 3.10.49 Build number = 7SQR-UER0

Same here, not too much difference noted with this update. Anyone know if Alcatel includes a changelog someplace with these updates?
I feel differently. This update, so far, is great. The lag I had previously is nearly gone and installing apps is much much faster. DTTW has worked everytime (only tried about 7-8 times so far) unlike previously when it hardly ever worked. I don't notice anything different on the camera but I've only played with it for a short period. I've not used this phone as a daily driver since I got it in May because of the user experience, it just lagged and I hate lag - especially compared to my LG G2. Today however, I put my sim card in and will give it a true test, being the daily driver.
I was going to return it initially but held onto it waiting for an update and glad I did. I simply couldn't understand why this phone was not at least as fast (or faster) than my LG G Pro Or HTC One M7 since both of them are running the Snapdragon 600 (vs 615) and slower GPU. Plus both are also running pretty heavy skins yet both were way faster/smoother than the Idol 3. It had to be software and optimization which seems to be what this update addresses. The screen and speakers on this phone are to die for and I'm glad it's now able to be used effectively. I may think differently in a day or so after a real world test but for now I'm excited about this little guy.
I just got the update this morning, and my initial reaction is pretty good. The phone just feels snappier overall. The notification shade seems to come down very smooth all the time now. Previously, when the keyboard was open, the notification shade would drop a lot of frames when you pulled it down. The camera seems to be doing a better job of getting the correct point of focus too. Also, double tap to wake actually works now! This is huge for me because it only worked about once out of ten tries for me before. I'm happy.
Edit: I'm also seeing about 1.5GB of extra free storage. I wonder if the phone wasn't properly moving apps to the sd card before. I have about 12 games installed, and I have them all moved to the sd card.

Some people are saying that it's faster than before and even high-end games are not lagging even a bit.
I didn't try any game like that yet, but it still feels a bit laggy anyway.
Plus, the thing I miss the most is the split system of notifications on the left, and quick setting on right. And we can't change performance settings like before such as to use 2-cores. My quick settings widget is not working either.
I just updated, and I'm already missing my 'old tablet'.

Thanks for that. That's one problem less.
Man i used to love this tablet a lot! It's a bit ruined now.
I still think NVIDIA should release smaller updates to better the layout and options. The notification bar is so narrow, it feels like I'm using my phone. Though, I don't have high hopes given how much time it took for this update. :fingers-crossed:
just a heads up System boot and recovery images have been pulled and test for Lollipop and uploaded to server. Now to work on updating the super tool to version 3.0 Lollipop

I feel exactly the same
this update is a joke, now the tablet feels like a cheap **** with crappy graphics chip.. why the hell did they released if its gonna lag so badly ? if they said this update dont come because of this then i would be ok... now games that didnt lag before like clash of clans lags.. its like micro freeze what the hel lis this nonsense ? do i have to buy a new tablet now ? and i have a weird battery bug, it goes from 100% backwards to like 97% and below even if it says its charging with cable in....
Some improvements are there

The stylus recognition has improved immeasurably ,and thats the only positive thing that i can say about the update.
I'm going to try clearing out all the app caches or reinstall my apps. This is so much slower than before, and it commonly freezes up for a few seconds...especially when switching apps.
Before, we could control our processor to save battery by reducing the number of cores used. That option is gone completely.
I see no noticeable upside to the lollipop update.

Vibrate actually u can access the performance option its just hidden from us, check this thread how to access it.. for me it doesnt help 2 cores or 4 cores 30fps limit or 60.. still lags even basic games

Neat app but aside from the fact it's non native, its just too many steps to enable what I want. So I won't end up using it.

Before everyone trashes this update, someone should try a full factory reset... I've fixed many issues with previous updates by doing this, and with an update this big, I'd suspect it could help.
HI all.
I'm a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owner! Recently upgraded from a Note 3. Phones are years old but are decently priced and still good phones when you're not looking for something too fancy.
Honestly, the Note 3 was the best phone I've ever had and was looking forward to a Note 4 upgrade (was looking forward to the fingerprint scanner, even if not the best, and to the metal edges)
Now, I'd just like to ask for a few pointers on this device. Any custom ROM suggestions? Anything I should know about?
I am doing my fair share of research, I've been reading a lot of posts regarding this device, posts that are months old, posts that are years old and I've gotten myself a general idea of what to expect.
But I think even with all this reading, I probably won't be able to compare what I learn from these posts to someone that has owned a Note 4 for months, possibly years! Which is why I'm posting this thread, to ask those who have had this device for a longer time and will probably continue to use it for a longer time since this phone is amazing!
I just want to ask you Note 4 owners, if you bought a brand new Note 4, what set-up will you prefer? Custom ROM? Stock ROM? Any kernels you would flash?
I know the best ROM will always be stock ROM, but is there any worth-while N7 ports for the Note 4? I'm a big fan of the off-screen memo, the smart screen capture (scroll and screen-recording that records gifs) and also enjoy tweaking the kernel (overclock) for smoother game performance. I've also read that the most common problem with ports is the fingerprint scanner. I'll probably end up doing the work-around since no custom ROM has gotten this fixed (from what I read it's almost impossible without leaving a lot of the stock ROM's assets which defeat the point of a custom ROM).
Currently, I am downloading stock EQI2 6.0.1 which is the latest firmware for the N910T variant. I know that the T-Mobile variant has it's own forum but I usually see that the "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" thread is the most active and sometimes includes things for the T-Mobile variant (was the same case with the Note 3, the T-Mobile forum was dead and the international forum was alive and well)
It's running 5.0.1 software right now, hopefully 6.0.1 is better.
Thank you for your time!
I kindly invite you to try the unified trlte build linked in the [ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] [7.1.2] LineageOS 14.1 [SM-N910F/G/P/R4/T/T3/V/W8] thread.

Thanks for your input, I am currently trying out a Note 7 ROM port, but if it doesn't work out I will try it out
Personally, I prefer to run the stock OS that comes pre-installed on my device and update the OS to the latest version provided by the manufacturer. As I know for a fact that Custom 3rd Party OSs do not have the best post imaging software. Which hinders the performance of the camera sensor on your device.

Been snooping around and messing with a couple of custom ROM's either with Note 7/8 features and S7 Edge/S8.
I really like the look overall to the stock Note 4 UI, but I seem to have a very bad luck with random reboots and some features missing (fingerprint) or not working (night clock).
I was really afraid my phone was doomed with the eMMC failure I keep reading about that plagued the Note 4, but I don't have any problems running stock.
Yup, I guess my motto came true. "The best ROM is always STOCK ROM", even if it looks a bit out-dated.
I'm currently running stock and a custom kernel I found for stock MM. I'm pleased with the results so far, just kind of wish I could boot straight in to camera with double HOME press
Best advice I can give you , owning the phone for 2,5 years, is to never use quick charge and never update the phone or flash custom roms while the phone is being charged.

I am amazed you are not aware of the motherboard brick problem of the note 4 !
Do a quick search and read about the motherboard Emmc problem on a lot of Note 4s.

I did read about it, I just wasn't sure what was the root cause for it. So I guess fast charge is the culprit? Every place I read this people seemed to blame an update either from KK to LL, or from LL to MM. Wow... I gotta think about this one. One of the reasons I love this phone over my Note 3 is because of the quick charge. Man :/
Gotta think about trading that feature in for... you know... a FUNCTIONAL PHONE

IMO the culprit was a heavy update(eg. from lollipop to Marshmallow) being installed , while the phone was pluged in being quickcharged.
This pushed the temperatures to exceed the max threshold of a bad emmc solder on the motherboard on some specific batches of the note 4.

So you think regular quick charge should be fine? The phone doesn't heat up with regular quick charge, so I really hope it's safe. I know that just to be safe, I shouldn't use quick charge. But I guess I'll roll the dice.
I updated from LL to MM via Odin, so it wasn't quick charging :victory:

In my case , my phone gets really warm while being quickcharged even if I am not using it at all.
I live in a warm place though!
If you want to use quickcharge , I suggest you go ahead and use it but without using the phone during the charge.

I have an exynos version so can't tell you much about the snapdragon versions (also never heard of emmc problems on exynos devices, the only problem I have is IR blaster stopped working some update ago and never worked again since), but here's little general advice :
Stock ROM is perfectly reliable and very smooth with little customization :
I recommend a package disabler app like EZ disabler to get rid of bloat. I disable anything that doesn't have a clear use for me . If something breaks functionality I enable it back.
If you don't want to root you can use adhel to block ads in very efficient way .
If you do want to root I recommend magisk . It's the best way to do it because if anything goes wrong you can just uninstall it and everything is fine again , it doesn't affect system partition.
Also system less xposed works great if you use the proper version . I love youtube background mod.
In my experience you should never use apps that claim to save battery like amplify/greenify etc . (In some cases they drain the battery even faster with their continuous background services) The better way to save power is to not install power hungry apps in the first place or disable them with EZ disabler . Also disable animations and just disable functions when you don't use them : Sync/Location /Bluetooth etc .
Last but not least : download and use Samsung game booster : it's amazing for our old gpus : you can lower resolution/frame rates to make games more playable and battery last longer .
These were my quick tips . Hope you enjoy your new phone !

The only small problem I have with stock is that it looks outdated. I know visuals are the least you should look for in a ROM, should be more worried about stability and battery life, but I simply can't deny that visually, stock TW UI bothers me.
But I guess I'll have to get used to it anyway since all the ROMs I've tried have issues here and there, but most importantly I get random shut downs and reboots with most custom ROMs and I lose the fingerprint scanner.
As for games, I heavily play a game called Shadowgun Deadzone. It's not that graphics heavy, but I need it to run smooth. I haven't tried Samsung's game booster, I've only messed around with custom kernels and changing the CPU governor, overclocking, etc... and it runs fine for a little while, but starts chugging after a few minutes in.
If the game booster can fix this, heck I can stick with stock ROM without any problems.
When you say it looks outdated
Are you talking about the launcher?
If so why not try the many other launchers out there? Like nova launcher..

A launcher can only do so much. I'm referring to mostly on things like the notification drawer, the settings and stuff like that.
I see others are having issues with the phone being sluggish and freezing - requiring a forced restart. I've had these issues since day one, but the phone is just so damn beautiful to stop using.
I've tried everything I have seen on this site including factory resets and manually adding apps back in (in lieu of restoring from Google). Still happens.
I've been emailing back and forth with Essential customer service, and while they're responsive, I'm getting frustrated.
They asked me to use it in Safe Mode for a couple days, and I had no issues. So they concluded it's an app causing the problem. So they want me to do another factory reset, and then add apps back one at a time for a few days to see if I can pinpoint which app(s) are causing the issue. I have 100+ apps on the phone - this will take months to do!
My comment to them (that they didn't appreciate) is that if they want to compete with the flagship phones of other OEM's the phone should be able to handle any app you you throw at is, and I have no issues with my ZTE Axon 7 running the exact same apps.
Am I off base here? Any other suggestions?

You are off base.
There are apps that can cause issues and no manufacturer can guarantee the performance of their device with any and all apps in the PlayStore.
There are apps that have memory leaks, wake events, etc. and there is no way for them to contain any/all errant apps, nor should they.
I suggest Greenify to look at app behavior and see what isn't sleeping and taking resources.
You can also look at the battery stats and see what app is burning battery.
Social media apps are typically bad.
Things like Pet Rescue and Candy Crush can also cause issues.
Make sure you limit which apps can do notifications and limit those to SMS and email apps.
Good luck.
I would highly recommend testing the Oreo 8.1 beta. HUGE performance improvement
I've been running N 7.1.1 since I got the phone 2 weeks ago and the performance has been stellar, scrolling is smooth and fast, no freezes at all, after reading the issues with 8.1 beta (battery drain, wifi etc.) I'm in no rush to upgrade....
I am on 7.1.1, came here after searching google seeing if they'll ever do this android Oreo Update. I have some phantom touches on my touchscreen. Thank god this phone was cheap. That S9 keeps looking better and better.

yes the Samsung will be issue free? dream on! no phone is issue free. I really like the essential and they are right you have to locate the bad app yourself.
because the open structure of android. app builders can really destroy the user experience on your phone.
if you don't want that? buy an iPhone.
for sure the app will destroy the performance of an s9 as well!

The touchscreen issue is related to hardware from what I can see and have read. Performance issues for me are related to memory management and the fact that I use a lot of memory hogging applications. Don't get me wrong just because your experience has been stellar the. I think it's a cool phone. Just not good enough for me to continue using it for another year. The Samsung...I specifically said the S9 because of extra ram and its top of the line screen. Which you can deny if you want but it's true. Best in class screen. They even make the iPhones screen. This phone was cheap so it was worth it for me because I enjoy tech regardless of the flaws. Just need that official oreo update!

look I had the S8 and it was stellar, but was looking for some cash so sold my S8 for $620 and bought the PH-1 for $450, and I'm really impressed so far, ok sure I dont to rocket science etc on the phone so I'm a pretty light user, but on 7.1.1 its been superb since day 1, smooth, snappy and better battery than the S8.
Agreed with all above. Apps are the issue for any phone. I have a zoo of different makes & models. to compare. Social bs apps are the worst. Even google's own are bad enough. Just do a quick search on ""worst apps for draining battery" and start cleaning your phone.
PH-1 Oreo 8.1 power drain is almost nothing comparing to the rest of the 'stable' world. If you don't like to experiment, stay on stable 7.1 until 8.1 is released.

Started using Greenify, but to work as intended, it requires you to set it as a Device Admin. When doing this, it disables the fingerprint sensor.

I'd say that RAM is not an issue here. The software causes phone performance to degrade. 8.1 works fine for me. Hardware itself in PH-1 is awesome. And price tag beats OnePlus and many others. ??
So far, the Oreo OTA update has been great. No issues like I had on Nougat. Hope this remains.
