hey there!!!
searching around google one day I found a way to use Xposed on many nougat roms.. i think it's fake but..
is there any way to port from MM to N or so?
I'm using LOS 14.1 right now
nooo
It's fake
Don't mess with it until an official u
status update from Rovo himself, or at least a recognized xda dev posting in xposed thread that there is some working unofficial version.
Just read in xda labs such a status from rovo, it basically says he's working on it, but don't hold your breath in anticipation. Weeks? Months? Days? With Rovo it's usually "when it is ready it will be ready", and it's futile to harangue him with ETA or asking if xposed is dead yada yada.
tldr: don't mess with it. fake, chance pf bricking something

Can anyone confirm whether or not NK4 can be rooted freely at the moment? And if so, your method of choice? I've been hearing rumors about root-killing updates(especially in regards to Lollipop) and am hesitant to do any updating. I don't want to lose superuser access just so I can get an HD Voice icon.

I wouldn't use that unless you care to trip KNOX and give up warranty. If all you want is root to remove bloat and tweak you can without tripping.
I can say I am now on the official 4.4.4 update, rooted without knox flagged (IE still full warranty).
Runs great.
The only change I don't like is before I had WiFi calling always set to on and it would be on when I turned my WiFi on and not when Wifi was off.
Now if I have it on and my WiFi off, it turns my Wifi on randomly or on reboots, even if it was prior off.
Oh well.
Anyway. For those that want to root and keep Knox 0x0 (not tripped) it's simple.
I used Kies to update to the latest release (OTA kept giving an error that many others on sprint forum are getting).
After this I installed towelroot (don't run yet). Next I used Odin to flash the NE5 stock kernel. Ran towelroot, ran Odin to flash NK4 kernel back, after installed SU and now all is well. Full root, good performance and not knox tripped. One thing to note is that while on the NE5 kernel you will get tons of errors, just ignore them, the original kernel will fix when all done.
I don't care for custom recovery and the stock kernel honestly runs great and I can manually do any tweaks I want but have the piece of mind of not having tripped knox.
Just wanted to share though that this work around works on sprint. I know other forums mention how to do on other providers etc.
**update**
I posed the files I used in another thread (as seems we have duplicate topics). So if anyone needs the kernels I got em already converted to tar and ready to go.

Nice work. I'm sure some would find this helpful! I tripped knox within the fist 20mins of owning my device ?

Yea, I've been fighting hard to avoid tripping it for the moment. I mean I guess when all said and done I don't care TOO much, but for now if I can root without tripping I will do it. (resale value also higher if not tripped so might get new phone in March).
I imagine this work-around won't work when 5.0 comes out as the kernel is changing too much so unless someone finds a new exploit to root without knox trip I will probably end up tripping it upon official 5.0 lol but until that time I have some piece of mind if anything stops working.
I'm actually fine with stock I just hate all the damn bloat they put on it so have to root to ditch it all. I don't know why they don't just make it so we can uninstall whatever we want...
Is there any reason to update to this? I might just skip and wait for Lollipop.

Performance, bug fixes etc. etc.
Remember this is already a skipped update. Sprint skipped 4.4.3.
It also includes new modem firmware among other things.
The wait game could be a bit. I don't expect Sprint to get 5.0 until around the time the S6 is releasing. Samsung is almost done with it but it takes months before Sprint will pump it out. Do you think they would have bothered with 4.4.4 if this was going to be out in a month?
I see no reason why one would wait? Nothing is lost, root is still possible. It may also be a prep for 5.0. Maybe they are using it as a firmware stepping stone. Who knows. I wouldn't bother waiting.

So you think we won't get Lollipop until April when we already have a leaked (pretty damn stable) build?? I'm sorry but that is straight up idiotic. We will have Lollipop by the end of Dec-Jan.
As of now there is no towelroot for 5.0 so you might have to. Xposed also doesn't work and might be a while before its able to run on the new platform.
I'm running the 5.0 leak now, we will definitely have Lollipop by Jan at the latest, I think more like late Dec

Might not be April but it won't be by February or probably March even.
The key word you said is "Leaked"...
Sprint had 4.4.4 builds in testing for months also, they just don't always leak out.
Just because you have a non-production version doesn't make it magically release sooner.
If you look around you will notice Sprint is generally a tad slower on some releases at times. This is because they like to wait and see what other providers do and also avoid having to do more releases.
Take Verizon S5 for example. It got 4.4.4 a lot sooner vs. we did, but the downfall was it had issues and security holes that they had to go back and patch again with more OTA's.
Sprint waited longer, didn't have to turn around and do all of this.
Waiting longer can often mean a more stable product as it allows other things to mature.
Sprint also generally doesn't like to update an phone right away if a newer model is about to come out with the new stuff also as it could cut into sales.
S5 will get 5.0 but based on how Sprint operates and historical events I don't see them doing it before a new flagship model comes out in which some people may feel they can now hold off longer. The leak FWIW is kind of like a marketing toy. It shows that they are committed to upgrading the OS so people don't do the whole "I'll never use sprint/samsung on sprint again cause they stopped updates". They are doing the updates, just doing it slower.
At the end of the day we are all speculating. You don't know for 100% just as I don't. I'm just saying (in my head at least) my thought makes more "sense".
FWIW I hope I am wrong because like you I own this phone too and want to have the new fancy stuff
I'm not a developer but would love to be able to install a 6.0.1 rom onto my S8. Maybe a custom rom could be made, or is there a way of downgrading the firmware?
Maybe I'm being backwards but I love Xposed so much I have given my S8+ to my partner until I can get Xposed working on it. Don't know how much longer I can cope with the s7e
Many thanks in advance
That's not possible. Well it might be possible but it's gonna take a lot. Samsung maybe released Nougat sources for the s8.Your best bet is to hope xposed comes to Nougat. I am also a S8 user and wishing I got xposed with all my favourite mods working.

Would it not be possible to take an s7 marshmallow build, and drop it into an s8 rom, basically replacing everything except the camera (there is a port of this already) and the kernel.
EDIT: we'd want to dl a tool to change the dpi(plenty on the play store).
Maybe if you could get aosp on the s8 and build android 6 for it, but it'll be a while before aosp is available, by then xposed will be available anyway.

amplify and a couple of others.
Marshmallow and lollipop were both horrible! No matter what modules were used. I don't miss using xposed one bit the newer android is taking care of a lot of the problems that xposed was needed for on those versions of android
I know the official TWRP releases are based on the devices they have, but I've waited to root until there's an official TWRP release. Is there a reason to expect one in the near future or is it likely they won't release one for the 6T?
I know OP gives devices to some devs and it would be nice of them to send one to the TWRP guys to help the rest of us out a bit.
If you want to root 6t, you don't need a twrp...

The current TWRP release will allow you to flash ROMs and install Magisk and things like that. I get that it's annoying it won't decrypt anything yet, but you can easily work around that still.

I know there's a workaround. Just curious if an official release is likely to happen or not.

I didn't ask for an ETA and I'm not looking for one. Just asking if an official release would likely come at some point or if the compiled versions from other users is the only option to expect. No need to try to seem superior.

The official TWRP Device listings (history) would lean in the direction of an official version coming (all past OP devices have official support):
https://twrp.me/Devices/OnePlus/
When it's available,it won't be a secret,everyone will know soon enough.
Not to seem superior, but, your question is akin to asking for an ETA. No one would ask the question of if without an expectation of when.
While XDA rules don't explicitly state asking what/when is prohibited, asking if or when doesn't speed up the process & it tends to piss off some of those who work on various projects.
If the devs wanted to give a progress update,it'd been posted already.
If you looked around,it's obvious several people are working on it,

I was on nougat until the other night i believe my dog stepped on the update button because it comes up all the time and i usually ignore it. I want to get back to nougat(phone is unuseable on oreo)and root so this never happens again. I just paid it off also. Please give me a hand.
Edit:bootloader v3
Nope it's patched might as well use pie beta now
No root and no downgrade. Have to get another rev 2 since if you want root again or wait to see if it ever becomes available on rev or higher
Sucks so bad. Ive held off that update since i bought it and woke up in the morning to 8.0. Just paid it off also. Now its not even worth that much. Definitely my last flagship and last Samsung.
The guys from one of the safestrap root threads are saying I can get back to nougat as long as I am not past v5 bootloader. Have you heard anything about this?

If you are a regular s8 no. The combination file is a nougat system but is not functional as a everyday driver. This device prevents downgrading so yes technically if you flash the combination. It is a 7.0 base but no apps full of bugs. Heat. Crappy battery. No play store no nothing. Combination files are Samsung test imgs again not usable systems. So whoever is telling you this they can tell me too cause unless they said the same as this they are rolling off crap.
If you own a s8+ you posted in the wrong section and yes you can flash the rooted system. Or whatever they use til at least rev 3 bootloader.
Yes I was in the wrong forum. Thanks for the info. I used chat alot with ya on the telegram s8+ channel. Did you ever root yours? What allows the S8+ to be able to go back to nougat using the safestrap/samfail method? I was under the impression the phones were very similar hardware/software wise. Im just happy I can go back to nougat. I hate oreo.

Yeah my s8 had been rooted since like day 5 of having it. They either skipped or just messed up on patching the +. Past to me shows they don't patch the best model. I've seen it with several lgs. Samsung's. The plus models always get more attention.
Yeah I gave up that group, the management and I didn't see eye to eye. Now I run my own ????
Can you pm me your telegram? I'd love to be a part of one again. Thanks again for all your replies.
Hi Guys,
I wasnt entirely sure where to start this topic. but here we go...
I have the Alexdnr 6 ROM, which has been great for a few years now, setup with Magisk in the ROM, the usual. I see Magisk mentions updates, etc. Question is, does the latest Magisk 23(?) apply to the S5 G900F? This particular ROM? Assuming the update is applicable, worth doing?
Been reading some threads, but nothing concrete enough to make me give it a try.
Thanks all for any info or suggestions

Yes, the update works, if that what you're asking. It's up to you to decide if it's worth updating or not. Perhaps check out the Magisk changelogs?
