Will an Official TWRP be Released Soon? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I know the official TWRP releases are based on the devices they have, but I've waited to root until there's an official TWRP release. Is there a reason to expect one in the near future or is it likely they won't release one for the 6T?
I know OP gives devices to some devs and it would be nice of them to send one to the TWRP guys to help the rest of us out a bit.

If you want to root 6t, you don't need a twrp...

no

The current TWRP release will allow you to flash ROMs and install Magisk and things like that. I get that it's annoying it won't decrypt anything yet, but you can easily work around that still.

I know there's a workaround. Just curious if an official release is likely to happen or not.

I didn't ask for an ETA and I'm not looking for one. Just asking if an official release would likely come at some point or if the compiled versions from other users is the only option to expect. No need to try to seem superior.

The official TWRP Device listings (history) would lean in the direction of an official version coming (all past OP devices have official support):
https://twrp.me/Devices/OnePlus/
When it's available,it won't be a secret,everyone will know soon enough.
Not to seem superior, but, your question is akin to asking for an ETA. No one would ask the question of if without an expectation of when.
While XDA rules don't explicitly state asking what/when is prohibited, asking if or when doesn't speed up the process & it tends to piss off some of those who work on various projects.
If the devs wanted to give a progress update,it'd been posted already.
If you looked around,it's obvious several people are working on it,

UPDATED: If you manually upgraded to 2.2. YOU WILL GET OTA : GOOGLE EMPLOYEE CONFIRMS

YAY MY STORY WAS POSTED TO ANDROID GUYS!!!
UPDATED: So I had to rush home after class and give everyone that definate answer that they long. This was in my email as I finally got a STRAIGHT answer from Google to the question
"Will the people that did the manual update to Froyo still receive the OTA, and did it void the warrenty? Can I get a straight Answer?"
Hi,
The answer is yes and no, respectively. When 2.2 (Froyo) is sent via OTA, everybody will get it, including those who have already manually updated to Froyo. No, your warranty is not voided by manually updating to Froyo. But we do recommend waiting for the OTA if you're still on 2.1 / Eclair.
Cheers,
Ben

Origonal Post:
I found some evidence that supports, all manual user will get the OTA, even if you updated manually.
Hi all,
Thanks for the responses!
Just wanted to give a heads up that the build floating around is not the official Froyo release. You will get an automatic notification when we OTA the build, no need to manually download it. You will still get the automatic notification if the official release is a newer version than the one you have, so don't sweat...but I'd highly recommend waiting for our official release
@Bhushan4181: You will get the OTA update as long as you are connected to the internet and can communicate with Google servers.
We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!
Gaurav.

From what I am TOLD as long as your manual update came from GOOGLE than it is still a LEGIT and offical update, just not the final, therefor you HAVE NOT voided your warrenty, and will most likely get the OTA so don't panic
P.S Those who did the manual update(me included) I would not worry about trying to roll back to 2.1. They sent out a test build via ota to testers, and when the final build comes i'm sure EVERYONE will get the OTA as it will have a different signature and what-not. How else would they get the final build to the testers?
Beautiful. Only thing missing now is a release date :|
Good find, I think its a no brainer but confirmation is good for some folks that were worried.

It appears, according to the quote ' We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!' that the build is complete and it may only be the OTA to be sorted.
I hope so anyway

There is no question that there must be a newer version of froyo thats coming out. I say that because every forum I visit on this site (and other sites) have people complaining that this and that doesn't work (anymore).

I knew there would be at least one person that would point something out to try to kill the post cause they didn't find it first. Obviously it will be newer. The file that was MANUALLY downloaded was available to the media and what not, so what, they are never gonna get the final OTA. Its common sense. And like I siad even if by what slim chance you don't get the OTA, you will be able to push it manually.
Way to try to kill a post

I dont find any good reason to give/update the press or the "preview phones" some unfinished or still bugged version of 2.2
For what ? so that they review it (Froyo) and write down all the bad or not working things ... it makes no sense , at least for me ...

I don't claim to know what happened, but I'm damn sure there is more to all of this.
I cannot believe the degree to which Google has fumbled this Froyo release. They let us all think we might get it at I/O and look where we are now.....another week later...all anyone has gotten is a broken version.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Mickey Mouse time in Mountain View

(Q&A) Any major changes in final release of lollipop (India)

Those who are using Indian soak test before and now using official release in India.... Do you notice any changes?
Sent from my XT1068/69 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Soak Testers didn't get the final OTA and will not get it. Reason is, the final OTA rolled out today is the same one soak testers got. They just got it a little early. You can see in the screenshots that everything under About Phone is same in soak test version and final version.
So does this in theory then mean that those of us who installed the captured soak test from the other thread will not need to use any other captures in the future and be able to use the ota update just fine without any chances of bricks etc

I mean we'll be able to download ota's without worries of getting our phones bricked because of it being from soak. I remember reading the other day someone was talking about how if we want to be able to use ota we'd have to use a stable capture first in order to be able to use ota. It seems that won't be an issue though since soak and stable are the same with just different release dates so we shouldn't have to worry about that right? Sorry for being silly here. I'm not exactly an ape man when it comes to tech but I'm not feeling the need to fiddle around with roms and bootloaders on this phone when I shouldn't really need to

Well, it was me who said that the other day. That time the official update hadn't rolled out and we thought it would be a newer system version. But, now that it's released; we now know that it is the exact same OTA, so no problems for future updates either. It's like we never installed soak.

Yea i suspected something like that was going on when I saw that new thread about the stable and people were saying everything's exactly the same but just wanted some sort of confirmation. Now the only thing that I don't know if it'll affect anything in the future is that my build number on 4.4.4 was kxb now it's lxb (unless k stands for kitkat and l for lolipop lol. dunno) but i don't think it would be a problem since the system version has only the numbers changed and everything else is as it was on kitkat. Seems like the indian release works on european xt1068's as well contrary to what I read some people were saying but I guess it depends on some things...

Well that pretty much solved all questions I had regarding lolipop on my moto g. Now the only mystery that remains is if the indian update works just fine when you install it on a eu moto g (well you need to manually install from recovery doe doesn't detect it in the ota screen) why is the eu xt1068's update nowhere to be talked about. All I've seen is india brazil and so on but eu is so silent that even babies can sleep

That´s a mystery for sure!
The only difference between the indian and the european XT1068 is the fact, that the indian version has 16 gb of memory, european model has 8gb.
But there must be something more that differs! In europe even a soaktest is rumored, surveys were sent,so everthing looks like we have to wait in europe for a few more days/weeks.
But why? In another thread I considered that Motorola is afraid of being taken to court or something by european users if something doesn´t work right. European laws are tough. Isn´t that a bit far out?
Or are there any technical differences between these models which are barely known?

Aside from the ram I highly doubt there's any real difference since when I got mine in the first few days of fiddling around it had the hindi, korean and pinyin keyboards which i disabled so I don't think that would be the case....I mean why would most eu phones need these inputs from the get go. As far as laws go I can't really see much reasoning there either since it's a 130-50eu phone so they can't really have much to complain and unless it somehow magically bricks the device I doubt there would be many if any at all issues...Dunno doe. I'm not motorola so i have no idea what's going on through their heads but it's just kinda silly to me considering that everything's running fine on mine at least without any factory resets or anything....could be just me doe. On another note I think one of my little gripes about lollipop is that it doesn't hide the signal bar for my secondary sim when it's inactive and just shows it. Is this just for me or does everyone have that cuz I didn't pay attention to that on screenshots the last few days

The 14th Jan one does have 1032.3105.
EDIT: Looking at a screenshot in that thread, it doesn't have the above mentioned version.
Weird though, I have installed the same version, but using a .zip captured by one soak tester. How could the version be different, when the update is same?

Yes, weird but there is reason. MD5 of old link and new capture matched perfect. Update in link by you and new both are same. Looks like Motorola fooled everyone and rolled same update again.

So that means that anyone who signs up isn't gonna be able to tell us if MiFavor is gone or not with Nougat? That's all I want to hear.
I also want to know if the t-mobile wifi calling and other memory/power management optimization situation has improved. Hopefully the NDA allows that (likely not, lol)
Who knows what the NDA will and will not allow - all you are doing right now is signing up to be a part of the experiment. Not everyone who signs up will be accepted (I hope I am accepted)
Signed up. We will see what happens.
I applied but probably won't get update. I am already rooted with unlocked bootloader.
i think we need a stock rom tool via fastboot or qfil. actually zte said that they would give but there is no news about it.
so i have to wait. i think @DrakenFX or @Unjustified Dev will make it which can be flash via TWRP
Signed up, we'll see.
It won't void warranty for anyone asking.
I signed up. I love beta testing new OS's.

After you apply, they will pick who they accept. After you get accepted, then you get the NDA to sign or not sign. If you choose to sign it, then your IMEI gets added to the list and they push out all the extra updates. You can basically refuse at any point up to when you get updates (since apparently you can't go back to Mashmallow).

Apparently the previous OTAs haven't checked for unlocked bootloader, so unless they changed that for this OTA, you should be able to get it.

Seriously?
Mo Versi tweated a little more than a week ago that it was set to "go to labs." That could mean anything.
Questions like this don't get much traction on XDA. Best to avoid questions starting with "when....".
Well I was curious also so I'm glad he did ask the question. Not everyone uses Twitter so thanks for the answer. Seriously.
Nice laid back group here.
HTC promised first quarter. Just like they did with nougat. Last year the nougat update hit March 30th. The very last day of the first quarter. I really expect Verizon to drop Oreo on the 10 in the next couple days. March 30th is close. We shall see.
I did a full conversion of my verizon phone over to us_unlocked and flashed oreo. I was rather unhappy with oreo on the device. Its complicated to get back to nougat if you want to OTA properly. i wrote a guide and have all the tools together if you think it will be of use.
possible with nougat verizon m10?

When Oreo finally comes out for the Verizon HTC 10, it won't support Treble, so it will basically be a kludged Oreo anyway, because: (1) HTC will end-of-life the device; and (2) HTC may less-than-gracefully exit the North American cell phone market once it releases its next flagship, gradually backing out as each device e-o-l's (is that a verb transitive?) So the last real ROM will be the current Nougat ROM.
It'll be up to developers to support the device with security updates, etc. at that point.
As for me, as long as my fingerprint scanner holds out and I don't see a better device, I'll stick to my 10.

LMAO. Thanks for the laugh! See https://source.android.com/devices/architecture/treble.
Treble is a platform for updates where the device has "A" and "B" partitions, such that an update can be done to the "A" partition while the "B" partition is booted. It's an easier upgrade path....and it won't be coming to the 10.

If I am a betting man, that's correct. The 10 came out May of 2016. I would be surprised to see more than one update to the Verizon 10. I have been surprised before, but I'm not looking ahead.

Lol, treble is a lie, ask anybody who owns a essential phone. @hgoldner I think you would really like the essential phone.

I have no experience whatsoever with Honor devices in regards to modding, but I would guess that one could make a flashable zip out of the full ota update that you can download, and flash it through twrp

Ok, I will wait until the release is stable and at least for USA, hopefully it will release for us.

Apparently, they plan to release the global beta (idk which countries tho, I hope it will be like last time) on June 19th, gonna take a good while. Still happy that the device is going to get official support, as the hw is not so mainstream

This has been installed already without needing to do rebranding.
Installed with hwota.
.has bugs and not quite ready for general use.
It has no Google app store. Gapps cannot be installed. Adb install is not working.
It is a true work in progress.
My.opinion for right now,. If you need to ask how to install it, then you will have issues to use it as well.

Thank you for the info.
Yes, modding these devices looks more difficult than any other device I own, that's why I won't touch it until end of support (got my unlock code thanks to xda)
