Things you should know before buying oneplus 5 - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

here are the list of things that i found that bothered me , and i think will bother others as well,
1) They advertised the camera way too much with saying 2x zoom and all but the truth is you won't find that much difference in both the lenses , the second lens only works in very good lighting conditions so when there is low light(not that low ) the main camera zooms in (by cropping) , there is no way to force the camera to use the second lens.
2) the os is neat and good but it does not come with any equalizer such as audiofx which came with the previous versions nor there is any music player (except for that sh** google play music)
3) no cache is made for fast access for what i have experienced so far , having so much ram as well as processing when i try to open my music folder with 800+ files it takes a lot of time and if i go into another folder inside the music folder and press back it gets stuck there.( i have used miui and they had really great file manager which used to make cache of those files for fast access , i had the same amount of files and was on opo)
4) ram management is pathetic for what i have experienced as after the whole day i end up having 33% ram free when no apps are running in background.
5) the high end game that i have played for now is injustice 2 and it has crashed multiple times , don't know if it's op5 or the game .
6) there are no live filters in the camera app.
7)no stability in 4k as well as 1080p 60 fps ( i know they are saying that the update will fix it )
8) images have a lot of noise but pro mode fix that and hdr too fixes it but makes the image a little soft, and the pro mode and portrait mode can't be used simultaneously.
so reply the things that bothered you as well.
p.s. is it just me or everyone is not having the double tap the power button to open camera option

LoL well you don't understand ram. The os always wants to use ram. That's called ram management. Just because you close all the apps you were running doesn't mean the os is going to give it all back and that's normal.
And you are incorrect about the stability in the 1080p become recording. There is EIS in 1080p, they are going to add EIS for 4k.

Ok so what I gather is this:
1) Camera is disappointing
2) You don't know how to use Viper4Android or download a music player. Who uses the crap stock music player on ANY phone?
3) Download a real file manager
4) My average RAM use is 57%. Hardly seems bad.
5) You don't know why your game is crashing but you feel like it's the phone's fault. Ok.
6) Camera is disappointing
7) See above
8) See above
ps: Double clicking the power button opens the camera just fine.
What you really identified is the fact that the camera is pretty average, albeit probably fine for most people. I find it ok, but it doesn't blow me away.

Exactly what I was going to say. The concepts of RAM management and cache the OP talks about are absurd. Ofcourse loading 800+ files is going to take time.
And Google play music is a damn fine player. I have a supscription and am entirely satisfied with it.
There is an OOTB equalizer. I prefer using AudioFX, which I could find on the OnePlus forum and it works on OOS 4.5.
Image quality is debatable, but is better than anything I've owned. Yes, it was hyped a little too much, but for a it's a good camera for a layman. The low light performance is bad though.
Also, 1080p video recording is just fine. EIS does well in the stabilization department. Expecting an EIS update for 4K video recording too.

To add, battery life is suggestive. I use the **** out of my phone and can get >48 hours of it with >9hours SOT. This phone has many positives, of which I don't see listed.

Honestly, I don't own or plan to buy a 4k TV. Don't own anything with a 4k display. So 4k recording isn't a big deal for me. 1080p is more then fine. Plus file size of 4k files have to be insane. I'll probably check it out once they add the EIS to 4k but I'm good either way.

Was really necessary to start another thread? There are already tons of threads like yours.

The only things you need to know before you buy are :
1- you could be a victim of the jello screen effect , just like u could not be ...
2- the camera isn't as great as they advertise it , specially in low ligh
**there is no EIS for 1080p 60 fps , it is only available for 1080p 30fps "FOR NOW" , waiting for updates**
also : there's a new camera problem showing up , talking about a kind of pink tint on some cameras , but the thread is deleted !
apart from that , you are buying a great phone :good:

ya i don't understand ram management but i know from my past experiences that 50 to 75 % ram remains free all the time when i close all the application,
did you hear me say that 100 ram is not free , no you don't , i know os uses ram but the background apps are using way too much ram.
as for the stability either you have very steady hands or your eyesight is weak coz i don't see a great amount of stability here .

use miui to find out how a proper file manager should work,
who in the world uses google play music and takes it's subscription as well , i havn't seen a single person using that s**t.

I've not rooted my OP5, yet I'm running AudioFX. Yes it works. Go look for it. I started a thread for an Equalizer.
You do not want to download another file manager because you paid money?! Do you want them to make you coffee in the morning as well?
I use GPM, it's allows me to use my local music and stream music all in the same place. Don't like it? Deal with it.
The camera is decent, not the spectacle they teased it to be, but nothing to whine about.
And yes, EIS works for 1080p, I do not have stable hands, my hands in fact tremor.
Here's proof that EIS works at 1080p.

please just buy an iPhone and be done with it, so tired of these bash posts. if you don't like it then sell it.
I assume your allready going to do that since there are just Cons in your first post without any Pros

you said you were using viper first now you are saying audiofx , 2) stock is what should be decent one right (why do they give any apps right , they should provide play store and user just have to download the apps he likes) well the first few things you see when you go to the op5 page is how good oxygenos is , if i paid money for some s**t i should get my coffee in my bed when i wake up first thing in the morning.
i neeever said that EiS doesn't work with 1080p 30 fps your video clip doesn't prove anything , go to google and see for your self , in the next update they'll be releasing EIS for 60 fps 1080p.
now what did i write above 60 fps ,
say it with me 60 fps 1080p

Never mentioned viper, genius.
Brother, no one pays for a file manager. They haven't charged you for a file manager. They've provided you a file manager, one which if you're unhappy with, you can go ahead and download another. If you're too high and mighty to do that, there's nothing any OEM can do to satisfy you.
If you can't wait for an update can't really help you with that either.
Some people just need an excuse to crib.

I use GPM too. Not for anything other than streaming my own stuff though. The desktop manager/ mobile sync and downloadable to local ability make it pretty unique. I've even looked for better alternatives and there is nothing better. I do only use up to version 6.16 though, before they totally messed up the home screen. I really miss the xposed module that let you customize GPM though. I hope someone makes a mod for it eventually. Every time I flash an OTA update it overwrites though, very annoying.
I do agree with you on the camera. My Moto x Pure was better than this thing, even though it got a lower DXOmark score. To me though, it was very solid.

Wait, are you saying that lower RAM usage is better? I mean WHAT? Isn't the whole point of RAM to keep recent stuff in there as much as possible? For faster usage?
That free RAM ain't doing **** for you bruh.
Also there seems to be equalizer on my OP5, just saying, it is there. You seem a bit clueless about technical stuff.

720p, now possible on the HD2?

I read an article from engadget saying that someone managed to tweak the camera via the OS on the Nexus One to record 720p videos. Since they both have 5mp sensors, would it be possible to do the same? The only difference is the OS, so the way we would have to accomplish this would be much more difficult I assume. It would be awesome if it could be done.

the hd2 camera can record 720p videos the problem is in the windows os it hardly supports wvga mp4
Not going to happen. I'm guessing drivers will need to be written, and such in order to even get decent playback on the FPS. I wonder if there are any SD-card requirements for the N1 modification such that it needs to be Class 6 to ensure fast-write speeds.
doesnt look great even though its 720p though, probably due to bad light. I wonder if we can tweak the HD2 to at least record 720p to play back on another device such as a PC.
yeah i've been wondering the same
Same here, used the "Search" before starting a new Thread and found this one
just saw this, id be willing to donate to anyone able to get 720p on the hd2.
it would be nice, but i would honestly never use it. but for bragging purposes, i think it would be great.. haha
That would be awesome if someone could figure out how to make Windows shoot 720p, they would be my hero.
My roommate is about to get the 4th Gen iPhone, and I want to make sure that mine is in every way equal to or better than his, so I don't have to hear continuous Apple Elitism.

Honestly, why do people feel the need to compare phones? They're for different people with different tastes. If he feels the need to completely tell you how your purchase was horrible or that your phone is inferior to his, tell him to grow up and get a life or something.
And you my friend, shouldn't be bothered with trying to "prove" your phone to him. That's just downright silly.
What would we need to get this project started? We do need to know where the drivers are located at and their corresponding registry entries, as well as any registry strings that could be useful in accomplishing this.
Do you really need extra video resolution?!
At the end of the day, 720p doesn't really mean better quality, it means a larger video res. Its almost like the megapixel myth everyone believes...
Hmmm, we can still try.

impossible on wm6.5 sad to say that ,windows doesnot support this resolution
Oh well lol.
the current camera app doesn't, in as much as it sits on top of winmo and isn't setup to do so. If windows can handle larger resolution pics then why not video?. has anyone tried hacking the camcorder app and the windows registry to see if it can be bastardized to do so?.
Note, video is about frame resolution and speed, if you increase the frame resolution you increase the quality.(if the cpu can handle it) The camcorder app is effectively taking still photos at 640x480 and sticking them together nothing more, theoretically if we manage to increase the resolution before stitching it should work. However there is the matter of codecs / compression, not only would winmo need to be adjusted but the codec / compression algorithum too. I am sure it could be done but it might be a mammoth task.
Well the HD2 has no HDMI output & its screen is only 800x480 so the only point of 1280x??? playback is for bragging rights
Similar issue with the iphone4, like whats the point of HD if the screen is so small you wont see the detail. Is it a higher resolution but smaller in size to HD2
Ive tried play 720 on my HD2 with a few different codecs/players & the best I got was stuttery playback.
Well if anyone has tried play 720p on a desktop PC with anything less than 1.6ghz then it will stutter. Although is a PC a whole different ballgame?
I think what would be nice for the HD2 would be 800x480 video recording with a few different codecs/bit-rates to choose from

Nexus 4, does the camera have video stabilization?

It sooo important to me. My sgs2 does great videos, but all 100% of them look jumpy no matter how hard I try to move it smoothly. Big fail on the SGS3, but what about de nexus 4?
For me it's a deal breaker.

Yes me too, thanks for the reponse, I wish it will come with.
Doubt it, think only the iphone 4s/5 have video stabilization, and of course the new lumia 920.
Digital image stabilization is a gimmick and rarely works well. From seeing video comparisons, it basically crops the image in order to be able to compensate for the excessive movement, so the quality suffers.
Even if the stock app doesn't have digital image stabilization I'm sure it won't be long before the market app ICS+ Camera works on 4.2 (if it doesn't already already). You can just toggle stabilization in the settings.

Do you know an other way to do it
But I wish I will have this choice w Google software.
I know this a technique far from being perfect yet. But last year I went travelling with my SGS2, recorded more than 200Gb in videos, recorded a LOT, but in the end, most of the videos where useless, the vibration of the walking or of my inexpert turning ruined great moments. I gotta say thought I'm pretty happy with the record quality it's a good phone, but I think it's time with all this processing power that the video get's smoothed on the fly.
Anything Android phone with this feature it's gonna be my next phone.

Perhaps not in this version of android, but being a Nexus phone, you may see it in Android 4.3/5.0 (Wherever they decide to go next) and you'll get it the day it comes out!

ICS and Jellybean (4.12) has image stabilization so I don't see why they would remove the feature. So I'm going to say "yes" it will have it.
Someone asked if there was a better way of doing image stabilization and the answer is yes. The new Nokia 920 (Windows 8 phone) has optical image stabilization (the lens itself moves to compensate for any shaking). Apparently it's fantastic.
It's the same tech that's been in camcorders and camera for years. Just coming to phones now. According to the Engadget Mobile guys LG is working on their own optical image stabilization system but it's not ready yet.

I gotta say thought I'm pretty happy with the record quality it's a good phone, but I think it's time with all this processing power that the video get's smoothed on the fly.
Anything Android phone with this feature it's gonna be my next phone.

Wow 200gb? If you were going to record that excessively, you should have used a dedicated camcorder, especially since you were traveling.
If you hate smartphones in general, and only want to use it for videos, you should get the Nokia 808.
Reopening now that people got the telephone, please let me know!
In case anyone is still looking for an answer it does not appear to support image stabilization. It is not in the options for the camera app, but I decided to go one step further and check the API.
Camera.Parameter.isVideoStabilizationSupported() on my Nexus 4 returns false. So I believe this is a definitive no.

How about isImageStabilizationSupported(), if this function exists at all? IS doesn't seem working on my Nexus 4.

A better slow motion experience?

Hi guys
The samsung galaxy note 3's slow motion video is quite bad
I tried both 120fps at 1/4 and 120fps at 1/8.
The output is very low quality comparing to iphone 5s slow motion.
Any feedback is welcome.
Do you know a better slow motion app?
Do you have a recommended settings?
Thanks
Can you post some video of it. I'd love to see it.

was that at 1/8? or 1/4. 120FPS at 1/8 is still gonna give you a pretty choppy 15fps even if you export the video at 30
from what it looks like, the iphone 5 usually goes to 1/4 which would still be smooth at 30
i noticed discrepancies in different note 2 slow mo videos and how they did things.

I don't think it has a problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BLiCKiLFbM
Here's a video from sam pullen at 1/8 and its noticeably more smooth than your sample
This same also looks pretty decent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL1BfkzPQ5I
however, like i mentioned above, this would one would look better if he shot at 1/4 instead of 1/8 simply because then you're voluntarily reducing it to 15 FPS.
Additionally, looking at iphone5 slomo videos, it's pretty apparent that their movie editor to set the slomo sections does make use of interpolation. Thus, if you really wanted to use the slomo for anything beyond just a for fun thing, and you're editing a video of a trip or something with slow mo sections, just take that 1/4 footage, run it through twixtor and bam, you can even do stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Kb1hDdseY
Basically. don't shoot at 1/8 unless you plan to interpolate it.
Apple's slowmo is post processed, so feel free to compare the two after you post process your own
granted, its more convenient the other way, i THINK the HTC gallery might handle that. considering the camera got ported a few months ago, it's possible the gallery will get ported to make help make slowmo clips on the fly.

Well if you find your example videos decent then we are not on the same page.
I found those quiet ****ty. Event the one with seagulls, the original poster hated his own video.
About iphone5's slow mo, I don't care what iPhone software does. The outcome is 10 times better than Note3 unfortunately. And I find dumb to say ''use 1/4'' when there is a 1/8 option.
It reminded me of people who pretend to be happy about their phone's battery life by saying ''Don't enable wifi and 3g. Reduce the brightness and don't sync your email''

Lol ok there buddy, no need to get pissy. Just offering and explanation and solution to your so called "problem"
At the end of the day, 1/8 will come out to 15 FPS in a 30 FPS video. Have you ever played a game at 15 FPS? Its bad. Why would a 15 FPS video magically be better. No matter what, that fact is not going to change. If a few at 1/8 is smooth at 30 FPS, then there is additional interpolation going on. If you actually have the pride to get something done yourself, figure it out, it's not hard. If you want to sit there and continue to whine in the same tone you just did, then you're more than welcome to return your note and get yourself an iPhone, noone will really care.
Quite franky, if I were to speak like you, "i don't care" if you cant get your slomo to look nice, because I know I will be able to. It's the same thing with goPro slow motion video. Have you seen what the RAW looks like? not pretty. Why do those videos look so good? interpolation and post processing. If there was an App on android that handled that, then you can run off and buy it and stop whining. But until then, you will either have to make do....or abandon it.
Just to summarize things again for you in case you actually want to put some work into it rather than complain.
1) If you want to go to 1/8, you'll need to interpolate, period, that's just how it works, learn some video basics if you need to
2) The easiest way for you to do that with the best quality is using sony vegas + twixtor
3) If you want to go deeper into it, I use premiere/after effects + twixtor.
Doing 2000 FPS shots are pretty fun but basic rules of video apply, none of this is magic.
Also seagulls? Have you never seen a duck in your life before?

No worries, I appreciate the change in tone.
I know what you mean, and I feel the same way (on the fly interpolation would be awesome), but if HTC can do it, then i'm sure it's only a matter of time before it gets ported or somebody else writes one on the play store.
As for vegas and twixtor, i'm not allowed to post torrent links or anything like that but both are very popular and should only take 30 minutes to download and you'll be able to do a lot more cool stuff with it anyways.
I was also bitterly disappointed in the slow motion capture on my note 3
Its not that the capture or frame-rate is bad its the overall quality
recording in a 720p resolution don't mean S*%T if the bit-rate is S*%T
Every video ive tried is very distorted and pixelated should never be possible in a 720p hd clip
Samsung needs to better optimise the capture and encoding

Will google ever fix the camera app? :/

Why is it so hard for google to fix the camera app and the camera quality issues that plague android? I was expecting them to fix it with the 5.1 update , but no luck, if you ask apple fans why they think the iphone is superior , the only thing they have going for them is camera quality. All I'm asking is that they reduce the time it takes to take a HDR+ picture , because without HDR+ the nexus 6 camera is kinda meh, implement an auto HDR+ mode, let us actually use burst mode, timelapse, that's pretty much it.... I don't want to install 3 different camera apps to get features that should be stock ...

Totally agree, nexus 6 is finally a google phone with a good sensor and lens, and they ruin it with a camera app stuck in 2012.
Things missing:
- 60 fps video
- auto HDR
- HDR Video
- burst mode
- slow motion
- manual settings for ISO and shutter speed
- touch focus & manual focus during videos
- stutter free zoom
- stereo sound recording
I hear you I'm not very pleased with the situation either. I did download a program just for burst mode (Perfectly Clear) something that was standard on my galaxy S3 2 + years ago. The focus hunting in video mode is infuriating also.
I also agree about the iPhone. I was looking through my friend's new iPhone 6 and was playing with apps and camera like lame, lame, lame, wow this camera app is nice and slow mo!
Sent from my Nexus 6
I want a quick picture may use the camera app.
I do not have the time or care enough about taking pictures to learn what half the terms mean.
Take a picture, capture a moment .... looks good enough to me.
Really if they had Auto HDR .... whatever that is I can not see me using it.
Just go with the defaults.
If anything I never go for the highest resolution do not want to fill my internal memory or cloud storage with pictures.
Now I read many threads where people that want to take professional looking pictures just buy a third party app, think Camera 2 was recommended.
The iPhone Camera app maybe better but with Android you are free to try other apps.
The problem is the 3rd party apps suck at doing it (HDR, Burst, etc) and some excel at one thing so you end up having 4 camera apps that don't do what the iPhone camera does pretty well in one app. It is not like you can't run other camera apps on your iPhone either!
Don't be an Android fanboi/apologist please. Good grief!
I don't think its being an android fanboy or apologist to say a person has a differing opinion than yours. I use HDR on my N6 ALL THE TIME.
Quality is fine for me. I'm not looking to become some great camera phone photographer. I just want to capture a quick moment. I've used quite a few camera apps and, in the end, I find it doesn't matter to me. It all looks good to me.
Point, shoot, upload... MAYBE stream through Chromecast for family. You prefer a better camera set of functions, others, including myself, think the camera is just fine because it fits what we do with our cameras.
It not like anyone is slinging mud at you and telling you to go get an iPhone.. Don't be that guy that throws mud because someone has a differing opinion than you.
So just to be clear... your opinion is the camera app is "good enough" and we all should be fine with that? Oh well then O.K. No reason to improve it then. What's next?
Edit: YOU HAVE A NOTE 4??? Get the f*** out of here you are not using Google camera!!! If I had a Note 4 I would not be complaining either! It arguably takes better pictures than the iPhone :good:

u do realize u can download the google camera from the play store right? Also its just a phone with a camera. you want quality pics buy a real camera. Gotta love the complainers over something very small. There is nothing wrong with the camera. Get real. Jeez
Auto HDR would also help people who don't want to spend time learning to take pictures.
I think we need an easy to use and fast camera app, which also adds options for those who want to get the best out of the camera. The new Lumia Camera 5 is doing this pretty good i think.
Title of thread: Will google ever fix the camera app
People agree it sucks. It runs from acceptable to horrendous. We are labeled complainers? Why is it so much to ask that Google has a "good" camera by default then if I want manual controls or other features I use another app?
Yes, if I want to take a lot of good pictures I will break out my DSLR but functionally my Galaxy S3 was better than what came in my Nexus 6.

Its very simple to them having a acceptable os running would be far more important than any apks. You cant sit there and tell me u rather have a good camera over the os. If so thats a stupid thought. A camera app can be fixed very easily by downloading another from the playstore. So again this small issue that people are having with the google camera is what it is A SMALL ISSUE.

Slow motion
HDR in video
better autofocus while recording video
The list is actually pretty long from whats lacking on the Nexus camera app, sorry but if you can't see that , you're straight up blind, either physically or mentally

Thanks to Wichaya for developing this version of GCam 8.1
After trying different versions of GCam for our Nothing Phone 1, I finally found this proper GCam file!
Tried different config files for days & finally created a one that,
Clicks detailed pictures without too much HDR+ or oversharpening
Very minimal color difference between Main & Ultra wide lens
External-mic works like charm
NOTE:
No macro mode
Slow-motion doesn't work on Ultra-wide cam. Will force close
HOW TO INSTALL:
Download the Atttached GCam file, Install it
Place the Config file in Internal Storage/GCam/Configs8/ Folder
Open GCam, give the required permissions, tap the blank space to your right of shutter icon
On the pop-up, choose "Nalann's Nothing.xml", Click on update & Restart the Camera
There is already gcam thread for this phone.

It depends on who you ask. I personally love using GCam for the colour tones and styles it produces. I personally own a lot of phones including some from the actual Pixel lineup, and the consistency GCam makes on different devices Is just awesome.

I have been using GCam on most of my androids, midrange to premium ones. The lag or delay you noticed may be due to wrong version of Gcam(not optimized for the phone's processor) or an incapable processor that was unable to handle those HDR+ with ZSL(Zero shutter Lag) or atmost minimal lag. It may be even due to an wrong config file.
Personally Gcam provides better details, specially for selfies. Also the color tone, skin tones will be more realistic And few additional options like external mic support, tweaking the image processing as per your likability through advanced settings etc. I was annoyed as i was uanble to use external mic on default camera app of nothing. And finally this GCam version of wichaya helped me out in Fixing this. Im using wireless mic to record videos and it works like charm

Therefore, I have decided to get rid of my Nothing phone, return back to OnePlus and take it as it is. They are NOT a good company to deal with since they do not stand by their products. Sad as it is, but it is.
Peace
