Any regrets? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

After a couple of months or however long you've had it, how are you guys liking the G5 Plus?
And please specify whether you have the 2GB or 4GB version.

I have the 4Gb and I have no regrets for this phone. The ONLY regret I have is that I bought it with the Amazon bootloader locked. Anything else, is really good.

So you think the non-Amazon version is definitely worth $60 more?

Definitely. Only if you like to root and tweak things on Android.

I enjoy this phone a lot its fast and it seems to have NO limit of tasks you can do at once, big step up from a 1gb to 4gb of ram . The fingerprint reader is quick too.
So far this phone has great support from devs for custom roms and kernels for only being released in April 2017. That is one of the reasons why I picked this phone. Also great deal for such a powerful device.
Only downside I see is that you can NOT run Android 6.0 Marshmallow on it. Don't quote me on that but its what I've gathered from the internet.

I'm debating that myself. It's been a couple of years since I've really tweaked my phones so I'm not sure I'd really miss it.

my biggest issue is bugs.
they should be issuing regular updates. not waiting more than half a year.

haha exactly what i was thinking! like my gf for example, got her the 3gb version for her bday and ever since she couldnt let it down anymore, playing around on it like crazy UI is super smooth, screen and fingerprint sensor are very nice (one button nav FTW!) and most of all: dev support is amazing! battery life is also perfect, she gets around 10h sot with that 3000mah battery, same as me on my huawei mate 8 with 4000mah battery (but 6 inch screen vs. 5.2, naturally
she upgraded from a samsung galaxy ace 2 to the G5 plus now, im guessing she will keep this phone for 4-5 years provided the battery lasts software updates should be a given with this much dev support
btw shes running stoneware based on latest .67 stock rom with extended stock kernel. i was thinking to play it "safe" for now as long as there are current stock roms available. more bugs bothering her = more time me spending fixing her phone [emoji14]

the most annoying are:
Bluetooth pairing issues.
If one restarts Bluetooth isn't enabled by default.
the screen will come on in my pocket while riding my bike listening to music with earbunds when an event happens (like a phone call) and all heck ensues.

64go/4gb only for usa :crying::crying::crying::crying:

I just love how sturdy it feels and love its turbo charger. I had hoped for a better camera but I use a DSLR for photos so not much complain but still i wud have loved to have a better post processing/or raw in this great sensor.
Solid phone from motorola. The form factor is perfect for me as well.
BTW I have the 4GB 32 GB one

Great phone. Speedy. Battery life is UH-MAZING. I've never had this much SOT and ontime on a phone ever (maybe I'm cursed?). Camera is solid. Form factor is great. As I get older, what I realize are the most important things for me on a phone are battery life and camera. On this phone, the battery life is awesome and the camera is good (not great). For $300 I'll take that every day and twice on Sunday.
ONLY downside....Where are the f$#@$king updates? I'm RETUS and still on .33 build with security updates from January. That's total BS in my book and a real fail.

4gb model, irked by lack of security updates. Phone was released in April, yet still running January 1, 2017 security update.

Since I live in Australia I have the 16GB/3GB model (+16GB microSD card) and I could not have been more happy with the performance. I'm getting 7-9 hours of SOT with heavy usage, and multi-tasking has worked really well.

Should i buy oneplus one ?

Hello,
i have a Samsung S3 right now with CM11 nightly. It is pretty good and stable. Drivers are not perfect. Expecially camera drivers.
I would like to buy a new device. I have waited for N6 and unfortunally it is too big, too thick e too expensive. So I am thinking to buy a Oneplus One.
I have read around about touchscreen issue. It is fixed ? Drivers in Cyanogen are stable ?
I want a stable phone for daily use. It is ok to test new rom o new kernel sometimes, but i need a stable phone to work with.
What you think ? Should i buy one ?
Thank you !
I have the OPO and its been over 2 month i'm using it!The phone is great and so are the drivers! No touchscreen issues for me!I use multi rom to test new rooms!I think you should go with the oneplus!

I think before making a new thread for a question thats been asked a million times before and an answer that only you can answer you should search for what others have said. Here are only a few I found real quick that can help you out. Lets be honest as well you are asking about rooting your phone and will it be stable. You can read up on any rom you like and find out if its stable but honestly there all based off of cm which is quite stable at this moment. If you are worried stay stock.
First link stock rooted where I would go to ask or rather read up to see just how stable the stock rom is... At least its a starting point. My bad if you think I am being an ass but your question is slightly subjective and all your answers are out there for you. Again my bad

OnePlus One fits a niche crowd, people who like to tinker with their devices and want a true powerhouse to take advantage of. There is also a subset of users that would want a pure-ish Android experience with a customizable interface minus the fluff that comes with a skinned interface like TouchWiz or Sense.
As it stands, I like CyanogenMod without any further tweaks. The phone runs well and doesn't give me many issues to worry about. (Note: no phone is perfect)
If you need mhl, hell no. Otherwise it's the best phone out right now...

Yes though it depends on budget as well I guess. Dollar for dollar I think the OnePlus is still a better buy, however if it's within budget the nexus 6 is clearly the better phone overall.
Mmm bacon
Thnk you all for reply.
I have readed a lot about OPO. I dont like N6, it is big, fat, heavy and expencive. I prefere a 5.5 inc display.
The main problem about OPO are the yellow band and touchscreen issue, that are not resolved with 38R.
I will wait till that problems will be resolved, later i will buy one.
Thank you all !
Its definitely the best smartphone for its price range right now. I have been using it over two month now and i did not have any issue.
Before i bought it, i too was worried about the yellow band problem. But until now I never get the yellow band or touch screen problem.
OnePlus One is perfectly fine and great performance. After i got this phone i immediately try antutu benchmark and suprised that it got the first ranking. That is something to brag to your friends.
As for the rom, CM11S is really stable for daily use and i did not have any problems with it. Great multitasking, smooth gaming, nice camera performance, great speaker quality and great battery life. Plus i heard that they are working to release Android L update for OPO. Cant wait for that. Even if you still want custom rom, most of them that i tried are stable for daily use.

It also depend on how long you're going to keep this phone also. I get at lease 2 phones a year. I have the oneplus one and it always seem like I go back to the Note 3.... But the nexus 6 will be a phone you can keep for another year

Ok if you have read then you also know that not everyone has these issues and the touchscreen issue was software related and those on 38r saying they still have an issue could be user error or faulty devices. Now lets be honest 1+ has sold quite a few devices and I know of at least half a dozen people with them. With that being said I am the only one with yellow banding and its barely noticeable and since the update no one has the touchscreen issue.
Why do so many allow the voices of the few decide for them. At the end of the day it is your decision and if you have done your research then YOU are making the best choice for you....
I've had the s3 and was running cm11 with oneplus mods on it and I can say it doesn't compare.
This phone is ridiculous, it amazingly fast and I have had no problems.
I ordered mine on Saturday and it came yesterday so I've only had a day with it so far but I'm so impressed, would recommend to anyone.
I had a G3, Note3, Z2 and this OPO It's the most incredible smartphone. And the feature that we can unlock bootloader and not lose the warranty is the best!

The G3 was the 16Gb (2GB ram) or 32GB (3GB ram) version?
I'm thinking of buying the oneplus 64GB or the G3 32GB, but i really can't choose which one...
Ive got the 64gb sandstone black, had it for 3 weeks now, worth every penny. At this point the company is well situated and running at full speed, buy with confidence and you will not be disappointed.
You should buy and have a try yourself. For me, this phone is better than expected.
Phone is amazing, period. Get it if you can

For sure. I've been pleased with the phone. The size is nice for me even with my small hands, the battery stands on its own, its plenty fast, many ROMs and kernels to enjoy and for the price what more can you ask for.
This phone should of been the new Nexus 6. Tons of development here
SlimKat or SlimPop
As someone who was in love with my previous phone, nexus 5. The OnePlus is the best phone at market price-wise. If it was priced in the same range as N5 or N6, I would definitely chose a N phone. Software-wise it is kinda buggy (both cm11 and cm11s) and hardware-wise (touchscreen and yellow screen)
I would wait until n6, and then make a choice, because the n6 isn't that much bigger then the OnePlusOne, but damn expensive.
I think I will sell my OnePlusOne when the n6 hit the market, cause I really miss the wireless charging.

I would definitely wait for the one plus 3, it's just around the corner and has great specs for half the price of a 6p depending on where you live. I bought the 6p coming from the OP2 but it was the smallest upgrade ever for me. Qhd screen is not a plus, surely the 6p screen which is bad and the front facing speakers are hyped but still useless to me. Battery life ain't better. The camera is the only thing that's better for me. Near Stock Android is also available for oneplus phones. I'm just saying, wait a little.

But we will always have the problem of the private drivers in the oneplus world. Thats why we only have forked roms. And feel the company does not care their customers.

True, that's why I sold the OP2 but that was just because of the fingerprint scanner, since MM that problem is solved.
To be honest, development for the Nexus nowadays is also not what is was back in the day.
I'll see what I do but after a year with the 6p I will buy something else. Maybe the HTC 10 or oneplus 3.

This doesn't bother me. When I had my one plus one I ran oxygen os when it was released and ditched junk cm. I had no desire to run custom roms with it. Same with one plus two. I used oxygen. All I need is root. I don't feel the need for custom roms. Even now with my 6p I try a custom ROM but always return to stock anyways. But of course not everyone feels that way...tho I think people are jumping on board with that.

[Discussion][News] Everything LG G5

Hello everyone, I'm a fairly recent G5 user here, and thought of making a thread dedicated to all G5 users, as well as your personal experiences with the device, any interesting news, and anything else relative to our G5's.
News: (Updated Nov 2, 2016)
Looks like we there is a new exploit floating around known as DirtyCow, which may enable Devs to gain root access in the future. I will add more info here as it becomes available.
Discussion:
How's everyone else's experience with the G5 so far? Is it living up to your expectations? Have you had any major issues with your device?

I actually had an unfortunate brick with my Nexus 6P a couple weeks ago, and ended up going to an LG G5 for its customization, SD card support, removable battery, etc. So far after just a week, I am extremely impressed! Very few issues, and sadly no root for my variant, but all in all, this is a great device!

Best phone so far! I was thinking of getting V20, but got this instead. For $300 more specs weren't much better tbh. No real issues. Can't wait for stable roms, which is close. Which variant do you got?

I have the Canadian variant, H831 I believe. I must agree with you, probably one of the best phones I've had! Though I miss my 6P for the abundance of custom ROMs, this phone is beyond impressive and is definitely underrated.
I do however have random reboot issues here and there, but only while intensive gaming. Amazing battery life to!

The DirtyCow exploit sounds fairly promising, would love some good ol' fashioned root access for all G5's!

Could be a while yet. I came from a Nexus 6P to the G5 and the development here is less then half of the 6P's.
All in all the G5 is underrated and has a lot of potential if enough devs have an interest in it. For now, we wait.

Not entirely sure to be honest.
Looks like we will be getting Nougat fairly soon if our carriers ever get their crap together.
I have the unlocked version H850, so it's rootable.
I've been using this phone for nearly 5 months now, i gotta say this device is pretty darn amazing, the camera is stunning, performance is beyond top notch, insanly smooth and fluid, no crashed, reboots lags or stutters, I play a lot on my G5, and none of the issues listed are present on my phone, fantastic graphics and it runs heavy games without a sweat, the G5 is definitely Way better than all the smartphones in 2016

As mentioned in other threads, the battery life can be really horrible on some handsets.
This seems to be caused by a wakelock that's named "anx_wlock", and information regarding this almost non-existent.
Tried rooting and installing different ROM's, that did not seem to help,
Read on some other forum that allegedly LG said it will be fixed with Nougat, so will just wait and see.

For a couple of cycles, and every time there is the same wakelock as mentioned earlier.
I'm on CM 14.1 now (installed this morning) and even though there is way too early to say, I still get the "anx_wlock".
Going to report back in a couple of days.

Looking to buy OP 2; couple questions

Hello.
I'm looking for a new phone, my budget is around 320 USD and therefore OnePlus 2 has really caught my eye. I've found a deal for 300 USD and I'd like to ask a couple questions.
1. The OnePlus 2 sports Snapdragon 810. I haven't heard much about it, but isn't SD 810 infamous for its issues with overheating? Is overheating an issue with OnePlus 2? Can it be completely resolved by flashing a different ROM/Kernel?
2. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 2 a viable choice, despite the fact that almost 2 years passed from the release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
3. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me?
Thanks in advance.

1. Snapdragon 810: daily usage is good (I'm not a gamer at all): Messenger, Fenix (Twitter Client), WhatsApp, Facebook through Chrome Dev: everything is good. Yes, just good. Not awesome.
2. Long period of time ? Hell no. Look at OxygenOS update(s) for example. Well. we still don't have 7.x as OnePlus 3 / 3T already have 7.1.x. ROM support. Maybe custom ones yeah, but I think that's all.
Also, Grarak, which is one of the maintainer of LineageOS for the OnePlus 2, seems to stop build ROMs, as announced here. This might be an issue in future, even if there is some developers on this phone.
3. Satisfied ? Not at all. I bought this phone because I had an invite back in time there were still some, and I though hype would be the same as OnePlus One. But very disappointed with phone.
Just go for 3T, or if you have time, wait for OnePlus 4 | 5 , rumors say OnePlus might announced it soon.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
I'd like to look back on some questions:
2. Well, I was probably planning to use custom ROMs exclusively, I'll see about that. I didn't expect much from OygenOS to be honest. The thing about Garak seems worrying though.
3. I'd really like to go for the 3T, but I'm restricted by my budget which is around 330 USD. Do you have a better phone to propose?

3. I'd really like to for the 3T, but I'm restricted by my budget which is around 330 USD. Do you have a better phone to propose?

You could search for the LG G4 for example, which as a Snapdragon 808, 3GB of RAM, Sdcard and QHD Screen, around 325-350$. Be sure, if you buy it, to check for an unlocked one (no locked bootloader for example).
If you search, you could be able to find a OnePlus 3 (just 3, not 3T), under 350$.

While G4 is certainly an interesting choice, I'm hesitant when going for it since I'm worried of all the bootloop issues that were reported to occur. I also think that I could use a little bumped-up specs.
Thank you for reminding me of OnePlus 3. Since there are small differences between 3 and 3T, I'll try and find a deal under 350$. If you have any online shops to propose, please do so.

You could have a look at Swappa which is a platform where users sell their used mobile. There is "partnership" with XDA, so this site can be trust.

Sadly there are no entries for my market (Europe). However, browsing Ebay, I found a listing claiming they have a new OP 3T 64 GB at $352 "in perfect condition". The seller states: "Bought as Anniversary present. To be honest it's a lovely phone if you like Android But I wanted an iPhone. My wife thought I'd like this instead. Used for 2 hrs around the house and that's all. "
How legit do you think this is?
Oh yess man! I've been using the device for quite awhile now and yes I won't recommend it to u now. It's good but not awesome, just good! Moreover, the software updates are kind of on a standstill now however Custom roms are abundant.
At this point of time, within your budget, I would rather recommend you to go with a device with a sd625! Excellent processor with an exceptional battery management, no heating no matter what you throw at it! Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2 or the upcoming Moto G5 plus ( supposedly to come with Dual Pixel tech same as in Samsung S7) are a few to mention. Moreover, Xiaomi Mi 5 (comes with SD820) is a crazy good phone to consider if u can get your hands on one! Highly recommended!!

Thank you for the reply. I can't go with the Mi 5 due to it being incompatible with my network. What do you think of the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro? It looks like an absolute beast to me.

Ya Z2 pro is a pretty good device! But i don't think that it has much software development! And the Camera is mediocre too. Performance wise, its a beast.

Agreed. I don't use camera that much so it's fine for me. I wish it had more software development than it, but even then, it seems to be extremely good out of the box (software-wise). So yeah, I'm in kind of a dilemma now, cause I need a device that will last 3 years or more. Also I can't go with Redmi Note 4 or Lenovo P2 because they don't have the required bands for my provider.

Then my opinion is that u must wait a week or two and buy yourself a Moto G5+ it will be having the same multipurpose fingerprint sensor (the one Lenovo uses), a class apart camera, much faster updates and vast dev community and this time they are even implementing moto voice feature which was earlier enjoyed only by the moto x users! I am not a moto fan though but this device looks promising!

Seems reasonable. I might as well wait for G5+ and buy it when it becomes available. Thank you once again.
Take my advice and don't buy it.
So did you go for the OP2?
The G5 looks like a good alternative!
no save your hard earned money and buy a better phone, this is already a 2 year old phone and its not worth buying anymore, otherwise if you find a new one for just $50 bucks go for it otherwise forget this phone even existed.

bacon to 6t

Just wondering if any bacon users left here are moving to the 6t haven't seen any familiar faces there yet. Ordered mine yesterday 256 gig version expect delivery the 6th. Be nice to have a few old buddy's over there.
Traded in the old bacon for the T-Mobile 6T. Can't unlock bootloader yet but love the phone

So sounds like it's a good upgrade from bacon then Tuesday can't get here fast enough I almost traded in my bacon for it but. Well if I leave the 6t stock I will need something to play with and flash still
wish i could join you but, might be a sixer only.
just ordered mine 5 mins back , i have also traded my opo, am going to miss this one , 4 years of service :good:
I'm confused. Yes I know it's time to upgrade but the One still works good. How does it feel to move from One to 6T?
I was actually planning for 7T. haha

First impression: this phone is huge haha. Also smooth as butter. I'm actually coming from the essential phone and the touch responsiveness pales in comparison to the 6T

Cool yeah I want the biggest screen I can get but still fit in the back pocket of Levi's I watch a lot of Netflix on my phone. How's the screen brightness outside.
I'll go the same route but I'll keep my OPO to play around with and as an emergency phone. What do they to with traded in phones anyways? I can't imagine anything but them going right into the shredder. What a waste that would be.
Yep ordered from tmobile 6t getting it Monday and sending in the bacon for the credit, will have to figure out the unlocking of sim and then bootloader after I get it in my hands. hearing alot of misinformation or I should say conflicting information on getting it unlocked, but I am not too worried,I am confident it will all work out fine just might take some time to get into some good development and unlocked until paid off it is sounding like from what I have heard. If I have to live with a locked bootloader for a little bit, I will survive.

just got mine , it is SMOOTH , brightness outside is good you have to adjust it though, still playing around with it , btw i unlocked the bootloader waiting on TWRP so i can root it now. But the stock OS is really smooth and snappy so i really doubt that i would be putting another rom on this for some time.
Planned to buy 3...then 3T...5...5T...now planning to buy 7... but ... OPO still works perfectly for me. Almost bought Poco F1 TBH, but I think I gonna upgrade when OPO dies or battery could not hold more than one day.
I also bought 6T after using One for more than 4 years. Battery is only complaint for me in One. Will keep One for sometime
I'm curious - Compared to the One, how are the speakers on the 6T? Are they louder? Or the same?

Wish I could change my OPO to 6T
I've been thinking about buying a new Oneplus phone. But ever since Oneplus became developer unfriendly I decided to fix my Oneplus One and keep it for a while. Since the 6 and 6T devices have both A/B partitions, they probably will not get any official support from LineageOS for an indefinite period of time. For me a reason to look for another manufacturer. In my opinion, Oneplus is doing everything possible to move away from its developer-friendly image.
Coming from a OPO as well. It was still smooth. But the battery life was just unable to take me through a regular day of usage without having to really either keep my phone on a power bank, or having to really try to have my phone on the lowest possible brightness, try to stay in WiFi areas, keep vibration off, and always monitor my background apps.
SOT was about 3 hours with Android 7. But when I updated to 8.0 it dropped to 2ish. Camera quality for some reason started to decline compared to how it once was. I don't even know why that happened.
It's only costing me 11 bucks a month so why not?

I feel and act exactly the same, good old OPO with pie rom still working perfect for me
To whose who updated what are your feelings about 6t not having a notification LED and about the notch reducing status bar space?
