Hi all,
I am lucky enough to get a hold of a North American V20, H915 (Unlocked from local Carrier) locally through connections after seeing one on sale on ebay.
I also have a G5 as my daily driver prior to this and thought that it was the most underrated phone in 2016 (other than build quality). I have had every single mainstream phones out there since 2007, including the recently returned exploding Note 7
Ask if anything that you might have about it, and I will try my best to answer.
Cheers.

How's the battery life? I had a note 7 as well and now I'm checking this one out. I think I read it's a 3200m. I'm using a oneplus 3 and I'm honestly liking it. Haha

The first day was stellar, had a full charge when I start the day and ended with 46% by the end of the day. It runs extremely cool and seem to manage the battery much better than the Note 7 and G5. The G5 does well most of the time but it's inconsistent, it could be due to the better Doze as well.
I will monitor it over the next few days and report back.
How's the camera? It seems from media they use the dual lenses in a less effective manner than the iPhone. The wide angle looks a bit weird. Can you give some overall impressions of video and stills?
Sent from my iPad using a walled garden.
I too would like to know about the camera, as reviews have only been for the preproduction units. If you could, possibly upload a few of them. Thanks.

Glad to hear that. I had the G5. It was horrible. Main reason I got rid of it. I liked the camera and features though.

So. This.
How is the build quality? Sturdy? Slippery to hold? Awkwardly large?
How's the fluidity of the software? Is Nougat pretty awesome? LGs skin pretty minimal?
How's the fingerprint scanner? Fast? Accurate? Positioned well?
How slow is the camera in terms of opening?

Of the reasons I'm interested in buying the V20, the audio quality and loudness is tops. Appreciate if you can give some feedback on your experience so far, thanks!
Speaker power compared with iphone 7 plus if you can?
Hurry back! How's the Speaker sound, Camera quality, UI Performance, etc.?
How does the v20 sound with wireless headphones vs wired headphones (same, better, worse)? Also how is overall sound vs note 7?
Please tell us the screen on time you get after you cycle through the battery a few times.
Hi Guys,
Greetings from Japan.
Change my smartphone regularly as I love gadgets and technology.
Daily drivers have included Galaxy Note 3, 5, A9 Pro, and most recently S7 Edge.
Have also owned, Xperia Z3, Z5 Premium, LG G3, G4, V10, V20, Blackberry Passport, Priv, Nexus 6P, Huawei Mate 7, P9, iPhone 6S Plus
Lots of people picking up the new Galaxy S8+ now which I considered along with the LG G6.
Been enamored with the MIX since I first saw it last year.
Price of the 6gb 256gb model came all the way down under 70,000 yen which is cheaper than both the the LG and S8+ (by a lot vs the Galaxy) so I jumped on it.
Few first impressions after a few days of it replacing my S7 Edge.
- Beautiful phone. Please note I love big phones. The finish and style is superb. As many have noted though, slipperiest phone I have ever used.
- Screen size is immersive and the screen to body ratio just awesome. I actually feel the S8+ screen is a bit to narrow and I like the resolution of the MIX. However, one negative is (and this is my personal taste), I find the colors not as punchy as I'm used to with the Amoled screens. I don't find the color accuracy as good as other high end phones. (no official testing, just by eye).
- Games and multimedia on this phone are amazing.
- Very surprised at the plug in sound quality. Currently use a Onkyo DP-X1 digital audio player which is in my opinion one of the best DAP's out there. To compare, the MIX is as powerful and the quality is much better than any Samsung phone. I don't have my LG phones on hand to compare directly anymore but I'd say its maybe a step below the DAC's on the V10 and V20. Compared to the DP-X1, slightly less clean, less punch on the low end, and a narrower sound stage but the DP-X1 will blow away any phone. Phone wise, I would not hesitate to plug in my Sony MDR-1A or Audio Technica MSR7.
- Sorry, I'll say it, camera is terrible. Many of the phones I owned in the past had amazing cameras. This does not. I think enough has been discussed on this so I'll leave it at that.
- I can't comment much on the MIUI skin/system launcher. After a few hours I threw on Nova Launcher. There are bugs with MIUI that I experienced as follows:
- Double knock to wake does not work after the phone has been sleeping for longer periods of time. If I shut the screen off and double tap within a few minutes it wakes the phone
but if I do it after say 20 minutes, it will not and I need to press the power button to wake.
- Notifications were hit and miss at the beginning. Was strangely unreliable as there were times the phone was locked and no notifications came through. I turned off a bunch of
MIUI optimizations and now they "seem" to work but will monitor.
- Speaking of notifications, when do not disturb is turned on, messages like LINE Messenger are not silenced, even I have I set to silence all with NO exceptions.
- The auto brightness performance is slow/poor. Turned it off and manually adjust brightness for now.
- I've allowed the dock to be hidden but sometimes really hard to swipe away in certain apps.
- Had to redo default apps several times as they kept getting reset.
- Setting wallpapers seems more difficult than it has to be whether it be in MIUI or Nova (which is even more buggy in this setup for wallpapers).
- Clock widgets don't work. Time does not reflect phone time (stands still) - this could be a Nova thing with MIUI.
- I've played around with the memory management and it seems MIUI does a poor job at it. When I have no apps running/open there are times the system memory and apps running
in background use up over 2gb - luckily this phone has 6gb. This worsens over time and is cleared with a restart.
- Seems like when phone goes to sleep it was no longer connected to wifi. I had to turn on the option to leave wifi and data on (Switch between Data and Wifi option) which
appears to fix this.
- and other things that are probably minor that I don't remember.
In general I love the phone for its design and hardware (except for the camera). In my opinion if it had an Amoled screen, a better, at least decent camera, and at least addressed some of the basic bugs (no matter how beautiful a phone is if notifications don't work out of the box... its unacceptable), this phone would be untouchable.
Of course some of the bugs could be just user error so feel free to point me in the right direction if this is the case.
Also I have rooted and flashed some of my devices in the past with custom roms. Let me know if you think flashing to another rom would solve some issues.
Should note the Rom it came with is MIUI Global 8.2 | Stable 8.2.1.0 (MAHMIDL).
Thanks for reading.
I share a lot of your frustrations, then I installed Epic rom. It's a totally different beast. I highly recommend it.

Greetings from Bangkok
Are you aware, that an operating system using more RAM doesn't mean bad RAM management at all?
Here's a very good ELI5 (Explain like I'm 5) explanation of the misunderstanding:
"So, imagine you have a store full of books. Most of the books are in storage. So when someone walks in and says "I want Book Y" you walk to the storage, get up on a ladder, grab Book Y and go back and give it to them.
Then the next 10 customers walk in and ask for Book Y, and one customer asks for Book L. So you're smart and instead of continuing to go back to storage and grabbing Book Y 10 times you just grab a bunch of Book Y once and keep a bunch on a small shelf nearby. You still get stuck grabbing Book L from storage because it's less common so you weren't ready. But at least when people ask for Book Y you don't have to go to storage.
This is obviously a better system. You can be faster at selling because a bunch of Book Y is on a nearby shelf and people keep asking for Book Y. No need to go to storage except for sometimes.
Now imagine some asshole comes in and takes all of the books off that nearby shelf every single ****ing time you stock it up. Literally you HAVE to walk all the way to storage every time because of this idiot. This guy claims he's helping to "keep your shelf clean". Meanwhile you're TRYING to use that shelf to store best-seller books.
That idiot is a RAM cleaner. Don't hire that idiot."
And here the real, fairly more technical explanation:
"On Windows, you want to keep as much RAM available as you can so that programs have enough room to operate. When RAM fills up, Windows is forced to start using hard drive space as virtual RAM and hard drives are much slower than physical RAM.
This is not true for Android.
Android’s operating system has its own native handler for assigning RAM to apps and making sure that all of it is being used in the most optimal way. In fact, Android purposely tries to keep apps loaded into RAM for better performance. RAM is fast, remember? On mobile devices, every bit of speed is critical for a good user experience, so keeping apps in RAM is actually a good thing.
Not only does Android handle RAM assignment, but it also keeps track of background apps so they don’t use up unnecessary processor resources. There’s no noticeable performance hit for leaving apps loaded in RAM."

Thanks a lot for the analogy which certainly does make sense.
Perhaps I should not have used the words "poor job".
I certainly do understand the benefits of keeping apps loaded in ram for speed. I just found it odd that even before I turned off the MIUI optimizations which were supposed to be killing off apps, I would watch ram in use creep from 1gb to 2gb even after launching no apps.
I am still in the learning phase for this phone so will surely pick up its tendencies and quirks more as I go along.
Thanks for the input.

I am also using the stock global 8.2.1 and I am really curious as to what you mean with totally different beast..
I already unlock bootloader so I can flash custom ROM, but I was actually living with stock global until ResurrectionRemix or LineageOS would be more bug free and go with them ad I love the "stock Google - Pixel esperienze" (running Pixel Launcher atm)..but I could surely benefit of a better ROM meanwhile.
Thanks in advance!
No more weird Chinese letters in some apps, no Chinese apps running in the background, no more lost notifications, better battery life, snappier response, and so on. I use nova launcher anyways so not sure about the launcher. But it's a real waste of space to have so few icons on such a large screen. I use a 8x5 grid.

Let's assume that Xiaomi ships the devices from the factory with bootloader locked.
Even if the reseller has a way to unlock the bootloader without the usual method with a MI account, it is certain that they cannot do it wirelessly with the device powered down and inside the box.
So it is either that Xiaomi ships it unlocked, or the box has been opened, the device unlocked, and the box resealed again.

Bought Mi Mix 6gb yesterday (Sold my Galaxy Tab S2 T710 as the promised upgrade seems never happen, and my LG V10 due to heat issue) using global ROM and updated it to 8.2.5.0. Everything seems alright so far except it doesn't have Japanese locale. The translation project says it is 94% complete.
Audio quality is as great as LG G6, with my RHA T10 in ear headphone.
I prefer Mi Mix (or LG G6) to GS8+.

I can get mate 9 for $480,which phone should I get?

My mom has the mate 9 and I have the oneplus 5.. The battery on the mate 9 is awesome! But man, the UI and screen on that buddy are not so good. Ui constantly show notifications for "this app is draining battery, uninstall it now"
It's a real headache. A real, real headache.
The oneplus 5 on the other hand offers a better overall experience there's no comparing the ease of using oos than emui.. Or unlocking your bootloader for rom'ing.. And no comparison with roms as well. Huawei barely released source a few weeks ago. Oneplus released theirs before the phone was even available for global pre-order..
I'd definitely recommend the oneplus 5 for every aspect EXCEPT in the battery department. I can go a full day without worrying, but my mom can go two days with light use.

I have to agree. Signal reception is better on my oneplus 5 than my mom's mate 9. But that could be for a variety of reasons. We have same carriers.
But it's by a pretty small margin, like 5dbm so... Take it as you will- the extra battery in the mate 9 is nice though...and the speaker on calls is fantastic for me (volte) but the mate 9 has those twin stereo speakers that sound really good..
I agree with the screen, it's visible during sunlight, even in harsh sunlight I see out here in California summer..
If you'd ever like to root your device, oneplus 5 wins my recommendation hand down.the categories the mate 9 wins are marginal (except battery) but the categories the oneplus 5 wins are by far larger margins.

I have both; the Mate 9 is staying and the OnePlus 5 will be returned. The Mate 9's screen is definitely brighter, better reception, WiFi doesn't drop out, Google Music functions properly, battery life is insane, much better camera, and no jello.

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Premise: I'm actually using a Redmi Note 4 with LineageOS, happily.
When Mi A2 Lite was announced days ago, I was like: "nobody will buy this device, with SD625 and micro USB in mid 2018".
Then a tech-dumb friend gave me an iPhone X to configure. I played with it for a day and I find it very comfy to hold in hand, and one-hand usability is very good (except for some iOS design flaws, but I hate the Apple philosophy in general).
I was so in love with the compactness of the iPhone X compared to my RN4, that I immediately searched for a phone that is not wider than 72 mm (the iPhone X is 71 mm). Thanks to GSMArena phone finder, I restricted the search down to two phones: the Nokia 6.1 and the Mi A2 Lite (I excluded all the unlock-able bootloader phones, and the Mediatek phones because of very poor custom ROMs and mods scenario, no updates and violation of the Linux kernel GPL).
The Nokia 6.1 (X6 in Asia) seems perfect under all aspects, but I found that Nokia don't unlock the bootloaders of their phones, and it's a no-go for me.
The last choice was the Mi A2 Lite, a phone with unlock-able bootloader but with an aged chipset. But frankly, it's the same chipset as my actual phone, and it does everything I need without problems. It's like having my same RN4 but in compact form and with upgraded camera (the same as RN5 I read somewhere).
In the end it will be a very small hardware upgrade, but a great upgrade for usability and for my fingers' health.
I will review this phone better when I will get it the next week.
My A2 Lite 4GB arrived today.....screen seems a bit smaller when held in the hand than I had Imagined but I am use to a Oneplus 5 and a 5T, currently running all 3 phones, few minor gripes for the price, mostly software related
The battery percentage option does not work when set in the System UI Tuner, I had to download an app to show the percentage in the notification area and then remove the battery icon using the System UI Tuner.
Also the navigation buttons, I cannot find a way to swap there order, also no way for the navigation buttons to be called upon when needed rather than them taking up a portion of the screen at all times, which is ideal when surfing or reading a site, but hopefully there is a method, On the oneplus you can simply set to be called upon with a swipe up gesture from the bottom of the screen.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/themes/hide-navigation-bar-t3825864
im using non-rooted version and with that app you can hide navigation bar to, and swap button order.
It is a great phone, because of the AndroidOne and overall build and looks. Otherwise, all comments here apply to me also.
Things it misses from ideal phone for me are: at least SD636 (BT5, etc) and better camera (aperture at least 2.0)

The battery percentage option does not work when set in the System UI Tuner, I had to download an app to show the percentage in the notification area and then remove the battery icon using the System UI Tuner.

Very happy with this phone. Rapid Charging on good old Micro Usb (I don't want to have to change to USb C yet), great battery life, pure android, Loud Loud Speaker, android one is very smooth, no bloat, IR blaster, a kind of Hidden FM Radio (using Qmmi settings, not great but usuable in a way), great size and shape for me I can use one handed, just, and the camera is decent enough for me.

I have it now, it's slow as duck but good phone.
Bought it 2 month ago..am travelling now. Nothing beats the big battery..side effect is lot of cheap places don't give up remote of airconditioning if any.. then I fire up phone and the ir blaster manages to make everything cold and nice..phone is not super cool but proves itself
Hello, I'm creating an account in order to give my real-life review of this phone.
For overall love, I would say 4/5.
I'm definitely felling this phone, right here.
I bought the phone in October 2018 and today, January 2019, I still enjoy this device.
I will give further details in the separate categories.
I'm VERY happy with this phone, especially considering how how insanely cheap it is. Screen is gorgeous, battery life is fantastic, performance is good even on newer graphic intensive games. Downsides? It's thicker and heavier than most phones of similar size, and the camera is so so.
8 out of 10. Blows away the MotoE4 I was using before this, which that phone was only about $40 cheaper.
⠀
not 5/5 because of camera
Will be released? Thanks In advance!!!

All rumors point to May 14 announcement.
I would assume shipping not to long after.
The 7 Pro will definitely be in my hands hopefully in May. Q HD+, triple camera back, popup camera for front with full screen. Not to forget stereo speakers. Take my money!

I wish it didn't have curved screen though...but I might be disappointed in that aspect...
I sold my OnePlus 6t just because 5 months I lived with a bad design . 5 months I was expecting OnePlus to do something with that navigation bar . the content on the screen is black and the navigation bar is bright white. never settle with OnePlus .I was with OnePlus from the start but now is too much I am going with another phone just because they don't wish to fix some little things. I know the white navbar is for the screen burn but for God sake just so something
, let me make it green or yellow for example. after I tried to contact different people and forums because they said we listen to our customers, I ended up selling my device just because of the navigation bar . so frustrating ...

Seems a bit extreme for a nav bar though I get what your saying.Theyve added nothing really to the experience. Im more annoyed by lack of Always On Display and don't have time for custom ROMs mods etc,
OnePlus 6T is just boring me at this stage, works well, but not too pushed on the 7 now, Probably cost samsung s10 plus prices for the pro version

+1 the curves... But still might be a great phone to choose, wonder if standard comes with 48mp and telephoto or wide?

How long do you think that popup front camera is actually going to work? Say once it's full of pocket lint etc?

I would say at least 2 years even though I keep a phone for about one year. It would only get lint when it is active. I don't see there being an issue with lint.

Yeah it extreme to get rid of a phone for the navigation bar being white, mind you only in apps too. You all are XDA so I would think you tinker with phones a little bit. AOD is available on the 6T and works. It is a simple Magisk module that can be obtained with minimal experience with Android and Windows. This would be my first OnePlus phone as I came from years of HTC phones and quite happy with the switch.
Latest "leak".
Op7 = op6T, notch tear drop. That's a Big NO! This one should be in 6T price.
Op7 pro without notch, without front camera. I never use it, any way! Good ! Leak say it's about 699$
Op7 pro 5g, ok, but not interesting for now. 5G maybe next year will work fine. This could be expensive. Let's hope, Not 1000$...
