I have the samsung USB drivers installed on my windows 10 cpu and every time I plug the phone in, I get the dreaded USB not reconized notification. The drivers have been uninstalled and re-installed with no luck...tried USB debugging in developer options and no luck. Tried installing kies and smart switch but get the dreaded application failed to start...side by side configuration message appears for both.
This is a stock non rooted Telus S7 Edge that was carrier unlocked so I could switch to Tmobile here in Canada. (Way cheaper plan).
Phone works except for being not reconized.
I am wanting to root, so I can use the bluetooth internet tethering option that is not available with a stock Telus rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..?
Go to C\Windows\INF
Look for wpdmtp and wpdmtphw files,right-click on them and click on install.
Thanks to Microsoft for making simple things difficult..........
Thank you....worked liked a charm!!?
Oops...spoke to soon..pulling my hair out here?? I get the same message still...even tries on another windows 10 cpu with different USB cable..same results??

So I had my phone rooted, and removed some of the ATT apps using instructions from here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/124736-t-bloatware-getting-your-way-delete-some.html
After doing all this, the phone still worked fine, but as of today I can't seem to connect via USB. ADB doesn't see the phone, and even if I disable USB debugging and attempt to just connect as mass storage, the drives don't show up in my computer like they used to.
I attempted a windows rollback to just before I installed the drivers, then reconnected the phone, but I did not get any message about unknown devices, and the phone doesn't seem to be in my device manager.
Can anyone help me out here?
Edit: Running Windows 7 x64
you erased something you werent supposed to. dl the dump posted here & move it to an Micro SD. Put it in your phone and use a program to move it from external to internal memory then load back all the apps you deleted.
If I had deleted something, shouldn't USB connectivity have died right after I did that, and not after a night of doing nothing with the phone?
Either way, How exactly would I go about restoring from that stock dump that was posted?
Mine is doing the same thing. Had a hard time with the windows 7 drivers to begin with though.
I am going back to XP when I get home. Will see if it will recognize it then.

Hm, an update on my situation: 3g watchdog died on me a couple times (gave me the popup, asked me to force close), so I decided to reboot the phone, and now everything works like it used to. I had also restarted my PC since the last time I tried (and failed) to connect over USB.
So if anyone else is having similar problems, I guess try rebooting both the phone and your computer.
I'm going to be keeping a copy of that "Rooted Stock System Restore" update.zip on my phone from now on, just in case.
The first Captivate I got from AT&T did the exact same thing right out of the box. I actually had to return it for another unit. Hopefully that was just a freak thing though.
I had a similar issue with windows 7 when I was first trying to connect via usb. Not sure if this will work for you, but I had to plug it into my rear port, the front ones didn't work just for the captivate.

it seems im having the same probs too i removed the att stock apps that were in one of the posts, im downloading samsung kies atm to see if that will help...
Edit, it did...windows and ADB redetected it.
I also rooted my Captivate and removed all of the AT&T crap. USB connection is still working fine under Windows 7 x64. Didn't install Kies or drivers either.
Halleleujah!
I had the same problem. Got this file from Samsung, and it worked on my Win7Ultimate 64 bit machine.
Try making sure you are back to touch wiz and see if it works... Worked for me.
I had some issues trying to get my phone to connect also ...
Windows Vista64 Ult.
Initially the MTP driver would hang when the phone was connected, and then eventually it would indicate that the installation was successful, then it would re-install itself after about 5 minutes. This was an endless loop which was severely draining of my system resources causing other applications to hang as well. I removed the drivers and ...
I downloaded the USB drivers from Samsung and installed them, when I connected the phone the computer did not recognize it, nor did the display on the phone indicate that it was plugged in. I tried several different USB ports.
I then changed the mode to mass storage and the phone was recognized, but both the internal and my secondary memory cards displayed 0 bytes free of 0 bytes available.
I downloaded the UK version of Kies, this was an utter waste of time. The Kies utility was not able to connect to the phone at all. I mass storage mode Kies displays an alert that it is not compatible, and the same goes for media player mode. If left in Kies mode the phone displays "connected", but the Kies utility just displays "connecting" and never progresses. Uninstalled Kies, and re-installed the Samsung driver ...
Connected the phone in Media Player mode, which is allowing me to access both memory locations without difficulty. Though windows pisses me off every time I connect the phone because it wants to sync windows media center with the phone ... though this is easily ignored.
Has anyone gotten the Kies utility to work with the captivate?

Try the Canada version, that's been working great for me, in Kies mode and all.
I had the similar kind of issue, look for the thread with ODIN and windows drivers, that is what worked for me...
I was recently gifted an S7 Edge that won't seem to connect properly to my PC. It had Marshmellow when I got it, and after some tinkering, attempts, to root, and some bootlooping, I ended up flashing Nougat (g935vvru4bqa2 from Sammobile). My PC can't seem to read files from it (before AND after tinkering). Samsung switch asks me to put it in MTP mode even when it already is, and on the rare occasions I've gotten the memory to show in windows explorer, all the files have no name and I get an error message when I try to open them. I've tried reinstalling android drivers several times to no avail. This is concerning for a few reasons but primarily because I have no way of backing up my phone currently. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Interesting development. I hadn't tried the phone with another computer for some reason. It is working fine on my laptop.
Sometimes it can be a usb port I have three on my laptop and only one recognizes my phone or sometime certain usb cables don't have the right specs to flow data back and forth I've had that issue as well

I've got 5 S7s on my desk, all Canadian variant, all from the same manufacturer all the same model. - SM-G930W8
All are recognised by my PC but one and I can't work out why not!
Plugging the phone into the PC makes no noise from the PC but the phone seems to detect a regular charger not a PC.
I have plugged it in using different cables including the one in its box and the ones used on other devices that were recognised and only this phone doesn't work with any of them.
I have plugged in, unplugged and rebooted many times.
I have set the USB configuration to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)/Transferring files.
USB Debugging is ON and OEM unlocking is ON.
I have tried booting into stock recovery and wiping cache AND factory resetting.
When phone is turned on "adb devices" returns nothing.
I have installed Samsung Kies and Samsung Smart Switch to reinstall the drivers.
NOTHING IS WORKING!
All threads I find tell me to do the things I have listed above and have people saying these have worked but all of them I had already tried and double tried and nothing is working.
The cables are correct and working with other S7s of the same model.
All the correct drivers are installed and have been uninstalled and reinstalled.
All the correct setting are selected and OEM unlock and USB debugging enabled.
Phone was fresh out the box as were the other four and all cables.
Samsungs apps installed on PC to ensure best drivers installed.
Would really appreciate some guidance or consolation that its not something stupid I'm doing! I work with these phones everyday and this has never happened! Just banging my head against a brick wall trying to resolve it
maybe faulty usb port, my nephew had S6 with the same issue, service replaced usb port and it started
to work with PC.
try download mode and see if odin see your phone.
try to move the cable a lil bit and see if sth appears for a second.

Thanks but unfortunately Odin doesn't recognise in download mode.
Could it be a USB port problem if I used the same port for the other 4 devices and have no issue?
I'm considering sending the phone back to manufacturer to be honest I think it may just be a faulty device or something!
I bet its microusb port fault
Had a similar issue on Windows 10 , if that's what your running let the phone be connected, uninstall the driver from device manager, and then install driver select have disk and select the basic mtp , if this doesn't help connect to Microsoft support and they'll guide you through it , worked for me , my phone used to detect on other laptops but mine , also I could connect other phones on mine but not my phone, hope this helps
same issue here
Good afternoon,
I am trying to root my Galaxy s7 edge: G935F or my Galaxy tab A 2016: T580 with odin, but both aren't being recognized by my Windows 10 computer. They do charge but don't seem to recognize my computer either. However my computer does recognize my Galaxy s5 neo and my Galaxy A5 2017. I've searched a lot and tried everything i found.
Which involves:
Different computers, ports, cables; and I consistantly get te same error.
Original cable
manualy install drivers, removing all usb drivers and reboot computer.
factory reset
Enabling developer options, usb debugging and usb configuration is set to Media Transfer Protocol.
I switched off selective usb interruption in my computers power management and dissabled quick boot.
Are there other things I could try, to make the computer recognize my S7 edge or Tab 2016. The only thing I could find, is that the ports of the devices itself are broken. Since both devices behave and charge normally I doubt this really is the case.
Since my main goal is to get one of the two rooted, maybe someone knows a way to do this without the use of a usb connection. I geuss one-click root methods don't work on these devices and I wasn't able to find something trough micro sd or a wireless option.
Thank you in advance

Hi there, installation of samsung usb drivers is easy. Please remove existing installation files on pc and install from provided link while the device connected to the pc during install and good internet. You should have no problem. I've done it on several machines
https://www.mediafire.com/file/gyp6fdl1wqbs8dz/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver.exe/file
Thanks for your response. I've already tried that several times. Just to be totaly sure i've tried it again with the link you've provided and sadly it didn't work. The thing is that the samsung a5 2017 and the samsung s5 neo, do connect. But the samsung s7 edge doesn't. Not even on a different computer, with Win 7. Just now I did a factory reset, again. And also tried to boot in safe mode. But it just doesn't work. Do you have other idea's?

It's not your computer obviously. Maybe the cable port on the s7e is broken or something. Or the drivers aren't getting properly installed on the machine. The com port used by odin doesn't require drivers to be installed separately for each device. So if other devices get recognized by Odin, it clearly means that your s7e requires some hardware replacement. You may try connecting another device of the same model
I have the same problem before. My s7 doesnt work fast charge and pc dont recognize and my phone charging 6 hours. Windows gives yellow error and doesnt recognize my phone. I try different cable and pc but doesnt work. I change my motherboard and it works

Hi Group... Newbie here and I am sure you will figure that out by my questions and terminology ... I am a Hardware tech specializing in Microsoldering...and Iphones at that. I just bought out another store with loads of devices I am attempting to fix and sell. I have been successful on most all of them, and now have an Att Galaxy S5 that I am getting trolled by.
It powers on (Has an unlocked padlock) while booting. but all APK's ive tried says its not rooted...
I wrote Att unlock and got approved with unlock code (Not attached to an account, not lost or stolen, clean IMEI).
I restored it using power/Home/Volume up (Padlock still unlocked)
I plugged it to computer to use ODIN to restore back to original Stock but phone will not connect to computer.
Developer mode is on and debugging checked... no drop down and not recognized by computer at all. Thinking it could be a charging / Data port (Even though it charges with computer), I swapped the logic board into another "Known Good" housing that does connect. It made 0 difference.
all other Galaxies connect just fine so Cable / USB Port / Drivers all appear okay.
Since I cannot use computer and ODIN, I wanted to try SD Card to restore original Rom... but nothing I am trying works Any ideasany

install this first
https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
when you put phone in download mode that time Odin should see the phone, if its not then also change USB cable, PC
under developer option check if its listed for charging only or mtp
also on dial pad try this
type *#0808# and enable MTP.
Gave up on this one...Can close post
Thank you for your suggestion but have tried all of that. I have 7 others that connect fine...same model with same cord and same computer. Have the Drivers, tried everything under *#0808#... However, I have tried testing D+ and D- as well and all is good. Changed u7000 as well and no change. I'm pretty certain that it has to be a hardware issue so I just gave up and put it in my parts bin as I don't know Android hardware the way I know Iphones and have too many hours in it to make it worth while
