Updated my tablet to Android 4.2 this morning and afterward watching video with Bluetooth headphones it's skipped popped and just been generally awful. Curiously music works fine. Anyone else experiencing this?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I just tried a few mp4 clips and didn't experience any skips/lag. Can't try avi right now as mx player doesn't work in 4.2 However, it seems there has been some changes to bluetooth. If you have your volume loud enough you can hear it 'stop' using the bluetooth if idle for a couple of seconds. Never heard that before. Also, a bug that really irks me is latency with bluetooth in games. Previously, games like dead trigger would seem to lag well over a second behind, almost 2 seconds. Now it's about .5 of a sec, however it's skips, scratches etc.
Other games fair better. For example, mame has about .5 of a second where it exhibited the 2 second lag previously. Not nearly as many skips as dead trigger but I heard a couple.
Btw, is android the only platform that has this issue? I read old posts of ipad's/iphones having it back in 2009 but I believe they fixed it. My friend has a playbook and it didn't support bluetooth stereo profile (ad2p) but they released an update last year and it works perfectly. I tried a few games on his device and none of them exhibited any lag, scratchiness etc. So RIM gets it right the first time and google has had this issue on all their devices for years? There's a few bugs filed on this on the official google bugs forum opened in 2009 and no response from any developer.
EDIT:
Just tried youtube with bluetooth stereo headset, audio breaking up, stops/starts. It seems to be going quiet if there is even a moment of silence in the video. God damn it, I use this all the time and now it's unusable. This was at least one thing that worked fine with bluetooth. It could be my connection right now but I highly doubt it. I'm at home and this connection is always fine, this is the first time I've experienced this. I bought this headset for gaming, videos, and voip. Voip didn't work because bluetooth mics are basically non-usable in android, gaming has lag, and now videos won't play properly. I think it has to do with using the wifi at the same time with videos as videos downloaded from youtube are fine.
Yep this mimics my issue. Streaming anything results in choppy playback over Bluetooth. This really is not acceptable to me, and its hurting my view of my nearly brand new Nexus 7. I really hope we see another OTA seeing as I can't very well turn WiFi off on a device that relies on WiFi.

I have the skipping too with Pandora over blue tooth, but thought it might be Wi-Fi limit since I am tethering off my rezound which is playing flawlessly over BT. It was skipping as pictures loaded in emails.

It isn't WiFi bandwidth related as far as I can tell. I can buffer a video, play it, and still the audio flips out. This is just disappointing and sad on Google's part now. The same issue affects the Galaxy Nexus, as well. Did no one even bother to test this before it rolled out??
I've been having the same problem since the 4.2 update - the bluetooth issue is definitely linked to wi-fi (no skipping on downloaded video while wi-fi off; skipping as soon as I turn it on). Online bluetooth streaming of any audio whatsoever is basically ruined.
I thought maybe changing the channel on my router would to the trick, but no dice. Google was very sympathetic over the phone but completely unhelpful - "this is the first we've heard of this."
I've only been an android user for a few months. Are they usually pretty good about addressing stuff like this?
- Nexus 7 stock.
bluetooth now working
My bluetooth headset (Samsung) was stuttering the other day as many people are reporting. I did play around with the settings and at this point I have no idea why, but it is working fine.
I had done 2 things:
1. I unpaired every device and re-paired them
2. On the wifi advanced settings, I set it to never sleep and disabled battery optimization
Bluetooth then worked fine using Pandora and TuneIn radio. I changed the advanced setting back to optimize battery and all still works.
Now extremely happy with 4.2 but baffled as to why it now works.
I am going to test more but I read it from someone else and it seems to have helped me, is to disable gps. Others said it didn't work for them so maybe it depends on the bluetooth device as well. But with gps disabled youtube no longer lags/skips and stays in perfect sync, but I'm going to test more.
And with gaming, it's almost in perfect sync, however some games still skip a bit and some lag more than others (mame4droid seems to lag the most). Whereas before 4.2 all games had almost 2 seconds delay in audio.
So in some ways, bluetooth is actually better in 4.2 in that they seem to be closer in getting the lag in realtime apps (games) working. So I hope their fix is not to simply revert to 4.1.2 bluetooth.
Anyway, try disabling gps, it may work for you.
To all those who are trying to use Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, Good luck!
They both work at 2.4ghz frequency most of the time you will only able to use one. Unless you're around 5ghz wi-fi.
I got lag and werid things when my music player (Play Music) tried to play .avi file
It is not BT that is broken in 4.2!!!
First of, 4.1 was working fine with my BT audio, got the OTA update and it was still working fine after first reboot... couple of days later mine started to act up...
It was almost impossible to listen to BT audio... but BT is not the problem!!!
It is either the Audio Effects service/program or Google Music... easy to test...
Connect the BT audio device, go into settings, apps, running stop the Google music service, stop the audio effects thing... BT audio does not skip at all anymore... It is as flawless as it was in 4.1... so the BT is not broken i any way... it is either the audio effects service or the Google music stuff...
I hope someone will fix it... but it is not BT that is bugged...
i've noticed this twice now, but random devices seem to be able to connect to my nexus player. given the devices names, i'd guess that they're phones. has anyone else noticed this happening with them?
i have no idea how these devices are connecting to my nexus player without me confirming the pairing.
honestly i'm not too worried because it's not like you can really do anything with the nexus player over bluetooth at this point (i doubt you can send/receive files), but still. it's just weird.
I actually came here to ask the same question. I noticed an unknown phone paired with my nexus player today. I'm a little concerned at the security implications here. At the very least i'd like the ability to stop advertising the bluetooth connection, and perhaps even enforce a pin on connection.
You can actually send files to the device but you need to have a file manager on the other end that will accept the file. Usually they prompt you asking if you would like to accept the file.
it'd be nice if bluetooth was able to be set to a non-discoverable state. i wonder if there's a root solution for this?
Its the strangest thing... I have a Bluetooth headset I use for work (Plantronics w/ USB dongle for Lync use), and when I have the Bluetooth dongle plugged into my computer AND the Nexus Player booted up, the dongle connects immediately to the Nexus without prompting. I then have to go into Bluetooth settings and un-pair the dongle before my headset works again. I've started many conference calls late because of it and its driving me nuts since I keep having no audio. I can't figure out why/how its doing that!

You're the first person i've heard of who has managed to connect a bluetooth audio device to the player. Do you actually get audio through it when its connected?
Edit: nevermind - i just noticed it was the dongle that connected to the player, not the headset... Drat.

Sorry for digging out this old thread, but I noticed the same today. My Nexus Player accepts every pairing attemp. No need to confirm!! I did a factory reset , but no change. Have I missed something?
Version 5.1.1 / LMY48J
i have the same problem,my nexus player keep connecting automaticly to my neighbur bt sound system, what can i do?
In the past few days I have found two different unknown Bluetooth devices connected to my Nexus Player. I have not done any resets or anything that should initiate the pairings. This seems very insecure. Anyone find out what is causing these unauthorized devices to connect to Nexus Player?

Try renaming your Nexus Player to something like VIRUS INFECTOR and see if they still try to pair with it :highfive:
Ha, this explains why when I took my NP on vacation with me occasionally it would start casting some random youtube video.
I've been noticing this too. Anyone know how to stop this???
This started happening to me as well. Any solutions?

I've been using the LG G6 for nearly a week now, and everything worked well. I have 4 different Bluetooth devices paired with the phone, a couple headphones, a UE Speaker, my Moto 360. When I paired the phone with my 2016 Acura RDX, the bluetooth app crashes on the phone, and the phone then goes into a bluetooth crashing loop. So every few seconds after the phone restarts the BT, it crashes again and again. I have had no such issues with any other Android phone (Pixel XL, S6, Nexus, Note 7). I tried unpairing the phone with the car and pairing again. I removed all other phones from my cars BT device list. I tried clearing the BT App cache. Rebooting the phone. Nothing worked so far. What is even stranger about it, is that when I go to the G6 settings, and turn off "Media Audio" and use just the "Call Audio", it works just phone. As soon as I turn back on "Media Audio", it immediately crashes and starts the cycle again. I use Google Music for my service. Not sure what I can do to fix this issue.
I have the same problem but only in youtube..when i watch something and then dissmis it blutooth crashes and then it reconects again but no force closes after that..until next video and so on..even when i hear music and stop it crashes for one time and thats it..really strange i hope lg will fix that soon
Could be something going on with the hardware. I'd exchange the phone.
Having the same issue with a 2015 MDX. Haven't found a solution yet.
When playing music to a BT speaker, it seems to require a skip of tracks before the music starts playing. After that, it see fine. The MDX, though, it all cuts out - both phone and music.

Very odd. I've streamed for over 5 hours on two different days to a UE Boom and Oontz Angle and haven't experienced any issue. I know this is drastic, but have you tried a factory reset?

Yes, as well as deleting the connections and repairing them. The G6 seems to have evened out with other BT speakers - works without issue it seems - but continues to struggle with the Acura system.

I drove a 2013 Civic for awhile and had issues with the blue tooth in that car. I wonder if it's a Honda thing. Volkswagon's blue tooth sucks as well, that and their overhead dome light assemblies squeak and rattle - that drove me nuts. Toyota's blue tooth just works.

Tested the G6's bluetooth on a 2015 Acura TLX and it has the same issue as the OP. Shows BT connected, turn on Google Music, start a song and Bluetooth crashes. Bluetooth eventually restarts and song plays for a second and crashes again. No solution found.
There was another user on Reddit that stated he had the same issue and restarted his phone a bunch of times and it fixed the issue. This however did not work for me.
For reference, I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu, and while I haven't experienced the same issue with bluetooth crashing, I do not get a steady stream through the car's audio. It seems to be isolated to LG; I had the exact same issue with my G5, and it's been no different with the G6. I also have a Samsung GS7 and it streams through bluetooth just fine. Based on what I've seen here and in other threads, I believe this is a software issue that LG can fix.

I've not had this issue with my Bluetooth on my mazda cx5. Or my audio receiver at home. Interesting. Mayne update your cars infotainment system to the latest version?
I've used mine with 2014 eXcelon and 2006 Alpine with kca-100BT adapter and neither has had issues.
Bluetooth is a highly inconsistent technology. Even when devices supposedly support the same profiles, sometimes their Bluetooth stacks or hardware just don't work well together.
Hopefully future updates will fix this issue for you, or, as lg3FTW mentioned, maybe there's a firmware update for your stereo.

I think it is. I just got the LG G6 and I'm having the same issues. I did some research and it seems the problem is mostly occurring on the Honda/Acura cars.
This is incredibly frustrating. Hoping someone found a fix or an update comes soon to solve the problem. Not being able to use the hands free bluetooth is a dealbreaker for me.
I got the new update today (H87310d) and it did not fix the issue. In the meantime I have signed up for Spotify as I cannot use the Google music app in my car.
I have found one odd way to get to it work. If I leave the phone far away from the car where it is still able to connect. The connection will be fuzzy but I found the app will not crash.
I think it's most likely an issue of BT4.2 trying to connect with older BT versions... Honda probably uses the old 3 or 2 even on their devices.
I've had similar issues with other phones and with other stereos as well, my old S4 had this issue with a 2009 JVC head unit with BT2.0, streaming would just not work properly, if I switched to my other car with a 2014 Kenwood HU with BT 3.0 I had no issues.
Having same issue with my Pioneer head unit. I have two of them in 2 different vehicles and the same issue happens. For some reason with Google music it's worse than others. I can play music fine but if I switch to another station of track the BT crashes and reconnects than keeps playing again. Same happened with Spotify but less frequently. I called LG and they were no help. With my Lgg4 I had some BT issues in the past with some firmware Versions but not this bad. With the latest version it was working fine With these head units. I really like LG phones but hate the bugs they sometimes have. Hopefully they will fix soon. Wish they could just get a log and figure out the issue.

Or, I dunno, let us unlock the bootloader and the community here could fix it once we had root
Isn't there a way to contact LG regarding this? This IS a defect. Surely there has to be a way to record/log this for them to fix.
I just recently purchased a LG G6 and I am also having connection problems with Bluetooth. I drive a 13 Honda Accord and while playing music the app shuts off then back on and repeats this process.
FYI I was having the same crashing problem streaming via Play Music with my G6 to my 2105 TLX. However if I stream using DoubleTwist bluetooth works great. So my problem seems to be isolated to the Google Play app. Odd.

My bluetooth crashes with all my devices (omaker speaker / LG headphones / FM adapter in the truck)
any app will do it Audible amazon music the default music app Play music all of them crash the bluetooth
if you ignore the notace it will continue to play for a bit but it eventually disconnects and reconnects
like someone said above if I skip to the next song sometimes the music comes back .. very annoying indeed.
O and my phones less than a week old
Greetings everyone.
For the past few months, I've noticed an annoying audio drop out issue which affects both plex & kodi. Whenever I play content, the audio randomly stops, seeing a light gray bar filling 1/4th of the screen, then a gray bar line just above the middle of the screen and then continues playing the audio again. Video keeps on playing without issues.
From what I can tell on:
- https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/997897/audio-randomly-drops-out-for-3-seconds
It appears to be a known issue with DTS-HD content?
I'm using the Nvidia Shield 2017 edition with no HDD. Up-to-date with v6.2 (24.32.406.417) connected with HDMI to my onkyo 5.1 receiver which is connected to my LG 4K TV.
Is there anyone here experiencing the same issue who can shed a light on this problem? Hopefully, with a solution? I bought the Shield TV as an investment, not to get issues like the one i mentioned above.
Above all, I also get random controller issues (the large controller). It appears to get randomly (but rarely) stuck on the down button. Disconnecting and reconnecting it appears to work, but doesn't solve the overal issue as it'll return eventually. Controller is also up-to-date with v1.15.
Solutions are welcome. And will ROM'ing the shield fix the issue? As most ROMS's these days are better than stock.
Regards,
Skyrider
Anyone?
I have started to have a similar issue with my Shield. It had been working fine for several months, and then recently started exhibiting audio drop outs, both very short and very long. Pausing and restarting play makes the audio return. I've experienced this only with streaming content like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, not with local content, so far. The issue is much less if I switch to 2-channel audio from 5.1. No noticable heat issue.
Same issue here, Netflix was a train wreck last night, bookmarking this to follow.
I'm having a similar issue. I have the shield connected to my Onkyo tx-rz920 receiver then to sony xbr65x850e. When I stream from either Netflix or Plex Media player (content stored using Plex Media Server on QNAP) I get random audio cuts. It last just long enough to miss a word or two mid-sentence. The time between the cuts seems to be random (sometimes seconds in between cuts, other times minutes). If I replay the same video a second time, audio will cut at different places. As far as I can tell the amp is still receiving signal, as the decoder lights remain lit. I do not have this issue with other devices connected through the Onkyo. Any suggestions or assistance would be much appreciated!
Hey all.
I have the same issue. Think it has to do with the audio passthrough. If I set surround sound to "never' it solves it.
Not really a fix since I just got a new sound system. But temporally makes things watchable.

I have the same thing with pausing on Netflix
For me the problem seems to have been the HDMI cable. I have a few different ones and decided to change the ARC cable (receiver <-> TV) and that seems to have fixed the issue.
I have had a long, ongoing support exchange with nVidia over this issue, which as it turns out is affecting all content I play on that device -- streaming (Netflix, Amazon Prime) and local content, including video and mp3 music files (via Kodi).
In my case, I'm connected 1:1 from the Shield to my Samsung Smart TV via HDMI, then audio goes via optical to a DAC and then to an old Sony stereo receiver. Audio works without issue when watching only the TV, including the Samsung native apps for Netflix and Amazon Prime. That would seem to eliminate any issue with the TV to Sony audio link.
I've also found that casting video or music content to the Shield from my Android phone with playback through the Samsung TV and Sony receiver does not exhibit any audio dropouts (which is very interesting, to me, as it would appear to eliminate the HDMI link as an issue). Additionally, audio playback to a bluetooth headset paired to the Shield results in no audio dropouts.
As of now, this is still an open issue with nVidia support, which has escalated it to engineering and Q&A. I recently pinged them again to update them with with the fact that the recent Android upgrade did not resolve this issue for me. The reply I got appears to be the first acknowledgement I've seen from nVidia that this is, in fact, a known issue for them. The reply I got had the statement that "SHIELD update 7.xx does not address this problem." How would they know that unless they know they have a problem and some idea of what it is?
FIXED!
nVidia issued version 7.0.2 of their Android TV software and it has fixed the audio dropout problem I was experiencing. Hopefully, this will also fix the problem for others.

I was experiencing the same issue with periodic audio drops in anything I played whether it was Plex, YouTube or Netflix. I think I found a workaround. If you go into SHIELD settings, display and audio, then Advanced Settings. Check your setting for USB Audio, mine was set to something like High Quality, I changed it to Stereo, restarted the SHIELD and after a couple hours of watching I haven't heard a drop. I don't use USB Audio and connect direct via HDMI.

Disclaimer I'm on the 2018 model but I haven't found any 2018 model specific threads to this issue. I have made claim over on the geforce forums as well.
I am running an Onkyo TX-NR656, Sony XBR75X900E, and the Shield console itself. So far it happens on Kodi, Nova Media player, Plex, and Youtube. The main apps I use. As reported audio cuts out just long enough to miss a word or two on occasion the screen will go black for a second or two and all feed to the receiver is showing off. Happens at intervals that aren't really regular, and will happen at different points if I were to restart the content. All other devices running through the receiver or straight to the TV do not have this issue. Limited only to the Shield.
I have replaced the HDMI cables with 3 different ones, the latest one I'm using is Twisted Veins HDMI cables. Same issue, one cable seemed to do it really bad, it was a standard HDMI that came with the TV.
I have changed ports on my receiver and plugged the shield directly into my TV. I have turned off and on CEC discovery on all my devices after replacing the cables.
I have switched from the recommended 59hz in Shield to 60hz and the problem seems to be more prevalent so I will switch it back to 59hz but the issue persists there as well.
I am going to check my audio USB settings when I go home and try that as well.
Anyone figure this out? I've been having problems with my shield and Denon x2200w with these same dropouts. I didn't realize it was the shield until I sent out the denon for repair and they found nothing.

Totally missed that on mobile. trying this now! Thank you. Did yours drop out like it was ducking audio? Mine will just get very quiet randomly then kick back to regular volume.
I have this issue, ... on 7.2.3 firmware, ... I even replaced HDMI cable a while back which didnt do anything
for now I delay the effect by going to display settings and changing the resolution HZ (from 1080p 59hz and 1080p 60Hz) and so on... still sucks tho, because after a half hour or so, I have to do it again
I haven't tried the USB audio workaround yet, is that still working for everyone?

Update: changing USB audio did not work, argh!
UPDATE: I think I fixed the issue!
I was able to make the screen and audio stop cutting out last night watching the Warriors/Raps game ... around 2nd quarter I literally had enough, as it was literally "cutting out" every 10 mins and the one that got me pissed was about 60 seconds long, and so I literally walked over to the shield tv tried unplugging it (actually was close to throwing it in the garbage) when I noticed upon moving it it triggered another "cut out"...
I then rearranged all the HDMI cables from my receiver, unplugged an unused one that was in the receiver and ensured the other ones left were not touching each other, as I heard static could be an issue... in the end, I only left the cables that were actually needed plugged in and watched the rest of the game without 1 cut out ... I was amazed that's all it was
I am going to try to watch a HD movie from my media server via KODI and another from NETFLIX this week and see if any cut outs continue but I think I made some real progress!
Keep you all posted!
I have not had a screen or audio black out since my fix above! Finally!
Shield TV pro 2019 is one of the worst products I’ve ever had the displeasure of purchasing.
Netflix audio drop outs and also whilst watching live “soccer” games frame rate goes all jittery randomly. Never have this problem with Roku.
Hi,
I just bought a new speaker : "Bose Home Speaker 500" and I paired it to my Nvidia Shield TV. It works perfectly.
But when I shut down my Shield TV, my speaker goes to sleep too after few minutes.
And when I turn on my Shield TV again, the speaker does not wake up automatically.
I have to connect again manually the speaker by using the "Accessories" menu of the Shield or by using the "Bose Music" app on my smartphone.
Is it possible for the speaker to turn on automatically when I turn on when my Shield plays sound ? The speaker also works in WiFi. And normally, it will be updated to offer the build in Google Assistant. Maybe there will be a solution later with this? Or maybe is there an alternative solution, with an app / an accessory or a remote?
I also tried to show my pair directly with my Samsung TV, but it does not wake up automatically either.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Apologies for walking up an old thread buddy.. But did you resolve your issue?
The same issue it's prevalent on Android in general.
Example.
1. Pair up controller with Android device
2. Use controller
3. Disconnect controller until next time
4. Turn on controller for further use, Android device has Bluetooth turned on.
5. Controller didn't automatically connect.
6. Have to open up Bluetooth menu and click connect or re-pair device.
7. Device then works again.
I have several controllers and a soundbar which is like to use when I want, but I can't, personally I don't mind. But for the family it'd be nice to have as little things to do as possible.
I have the shield TV Pro, great device overall but this connecting block is quite annoying.
Also you can pair up your speaker so that the Nvidia remote turns both devices on or off.
This is under device preference / display and sound, then power control.
