I bought an N4 last year when they first came out. I had to send it back because of a number of issues with it, and I'd just like to know if they were ever solved? I'm very interested in the N5 when it comes out, but to say I'm apprehensive of buying another LG device would be a bit of an understatement.
1. My device had a constant squealing/buzzing noise coming from the speaker at all times. It was a known fault on these forums at the time. Did LG ever solve this in later batches of phones? Did anyone have a phone with this issue and just keep it, if so how is it now?
2. Awful washed out screen - my device just looked like cr*p. I guess this is something that could maybe have been solved with software? Was it ever?
3. Poor touch response - my N4 wouldn't register swipes properly, in fact it was almost unusable. Was this resolved?
I have to say that I'm not knocking the phone - aside from these issues it was a great phone (well, apart from the glass back and meagre 16GB storage, but those things were intentional, as opposed to poor components/manufacturing/software).

1. You speaker must have been defective.
2. This is Google's colorimetry for the Nexus 4, it can be fixed by flashing a tweaked kernel.
No idea about 3. I usually don't have a problem with swipes, but some apps such as Shuttle Music Player may be less sensitive than others.

It sound like you are knocking the phone. It very well may be the best value on the market today. I never experienced any of those issues and neither have the friends of mine who happen to have the same model.

Hey Guys,
I've been looking into buying the Moto X (I think we are all drooling over it) and I came across some post about some QC issues with defective devices and things like that. I'm wondering how many of you are actually having these issues and if so, how is Motorola customer service and can you easily get a new phone without much hassle?
No issues with mine.

There is no device in these forms free of vast complaints.
I have reached a point, where if several reputable review sites have no issues. The complaints to me are outliers.
Dive in and use the return policy if things don't work out.

I don't have my phone yet, but I had quality control issues with my Nexus 6. Motorola support is great. They kept sending me like new phones and each one had a screen problem. After 3 replacements they gave me $50 in Motorola credit and finally sent me a brand new phone. And that's the one I am using now. But yeah their support is really good and they try to help you out.
No issues with mine. Very good build. Feels as good as any phone out there.
Mine is perfect.
I have no issues with my moto x at all, love the phone. Battery life, build quality, cell signal is great, the screen is bright and crisp.

I had a device delivered with a screen that wouldn't turn on. The phone itself was on because I could get haptic feedback and audio tones when I adjusted the volume, but no matter what I did I couldn't get the screen to come on. I spent roughly 4 hours jumping through hoops for tech support before they would issue a replacement. I'm now waiting for that replacement, and have decided that if the replacement is faulty in any way I will be returning it and not giving them a third chance. We'll see. All I can say is it has so far been a pretty awful experience, and I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone else.
One of my speaker grill covers was VERY lopsided, the left side was below being flush with the surface of the phone and the right side stuck up to where the bottom of it was exposed. I tried pushing it back in, but it fell out instead. I couldn't make it stay after that, so I put in for a replacement and they said it would be at least 2 weeks, maybe more. So in the mean time I super-glued the speaker grill back in and it has held good for the last week. Since that was my ONLY problem, I cancelled my replacement and am going to keep my current one as I'm afraid I may get one with another, worse, issue.
Moto X Pure Return Process Not so Bad
I received a Moto X Pure with a slight imperfection on the display. Half of the screen is a slight shade different than the other half. Everything else on the phone is perfect, and I think it is a great device. That being said, I called Motorola and they are replacing my device with a new one, and it won't cost me a penny. I get to keep using my current device until I receive the new one, and they emailed me a return shipping label for the defective unit as well as a redemption code to go onto Moto Maker to build my replacement device. I haven't received the replacement yet, but I am having a pretty positive experience so far with the process. I say go for it and just order one.
1. Battery life is incredibly bad
-The battery life drains from 100% to 10% just in 8-10hrs. No gaming or no heavy duty in the background.
-The brightness level has set at 50% or under, and the SOT was never more than 30 minutes
2. The power button is too weak
-It was broken after a few days of out of the box.
-During that time, sometimes it works, but sometimes not
-After few months of use, it was great. It was competely dead.
**I did a research that a big number of G5 user has reported this is a common issue. Thanks to LG
3.The USB port is flimsy
-The fast charging function won't work probaly anymore after a few months of normal use.
-It keeps popping up an annoying power supply notification on the bar while there was nothing doing with the port.
**It's another common issue, but seems this case is not as serious as the power button one.
4.The texture of the phone is really hard to tell me that the phone was made out of matal
-Yes, I know there is something called coating, but that feeling is so horrible, just like other plastic phones, so why didn't they just make a plastic phone like G3,G4 instead of this one?
5. Image retention makes the screen like a crap
-2K QHD IPS LCD, all these labels just meant to give the good impression to the consumer. Well, once they found out how creepy is the watermark produced on the screen by leaving the screen on the same image just a little while, they could regret to buy a phone that should have an astounding quality of screen, which actually worse than the predecessor, G3.
6.The edges of the body just like a blade
-I know this state is too exaggerated, but I have already ran out of words to describe that bloody cheap feeling.
7.It's easy to get throttled
When everytime I restart the phone, texting message, watching youtube videos, surfing internet, I just like holding a warmer. Thanks to LG for giving me a free warmer.
Anyway, after the G3, G4 boot looping trash and this crap, I will never buy a single LG phone again.
I have been using my H850 for one year now and don't have any of the issues you describe: Yes, the build quality of Samsung and Sony is ahead of LG, but it still works like on the first day and still has good battery runtime. No ghosting at all, nothing.
You got a bad phone, simply get it replaced.
Regarding the "coated metal", I couldn't care less: For me a phone is a tool, not a status symbol and surely not a piece of jewelry. If you see things differently, buy something like a SGS8 or HTC U11. It's not that you cannot recognize this when buying the phone.
No 2017 highend phone I'm aware of has SD card support, a replacable battery and an unlockable bootloader. So I'll use my G5 until it falls apart.

Same here ... judging by your username I'm guessing you also got the "1. FC Köln" version
But I agree - I don't have ANY of the issues you mentioned @cuepudding, and I've also had my H850 for a year now.
The only thing that is making me regret that I ever got it is the lack of custom rom support. We don't have many choices and the ones that are around either don't update often or have/will stop being maintained.
The phone itself and the quality are great though :good:

Actually, I do live in Cologne  But I have the regular H850, though.
So far, the only issues I've had with my H860 are that the metal is quite soft (my phone fell from like 15cm into a wooden table and the side now has a dent) and also the camera glass, which is really REALLY scratched on both sides (and I keep my phone in my pocket 97% of the time).

I have used LG optimus G , LG optimus 3D ,LG G2 and now LG G5 never had any quality issues. I think what you got is duplicate of LG G5 . The only part i regret in LG G5 is battery life other than that its a beautiful phone with super fast performance, I moved back to android from Iphone 6.
I'm not that satisfied with G5 either! Already had to send it in due to broken GPS. Also having the screen retention, but they denied changing display. Then battery life isn't that great, although I know it depends on my various things. Last but not least having big trouble using WLAN and BT at same time, but I'm not sure if it's more related to Android 7.0 than LG G5. All in all other phones of mine performed quite better at their times...
I also am happy with my LG G5, only fault i have is battery life but I carry a spare and just change when it gets too low, otherwise the phone does everthing a phone should. If i wantvto play games i use my PC or XBone S.

I have mine for a year. GPS broke few times, image retention (I use Blue Light Filter to fix it so it's a non issue for me now) and the camera glass got so many scratches I had to replace it. Oddly enough, the 2.5$ glass I got from China holds much better than the original glass!! No scratches.
But... The 2 main reasons I keep this phone:
1. The camera(s) is outstanding. And the camera software is by far the best in the market.
2. Removable battery. I always carry a spare battery in my bag. Never worried about battery life.
I don't like that the screen isn't flat but I can live with it.
Not sure how long I've have my ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML) but I feel like it's about time I move on to another device.
Things I've replaced so far:
- Touchscreen assembly; first device I've had that seemed prone to getting its screen cracked (replaced 3 or 4 times)
- Battery; punctured the original battery while replacing the original touchscreen assembly
- Lower board/charging port; broke the first one while replacing touchscreen and again when the second one wouldn't fast charge
- Speaker; must have gotten the original one wet or something because it just suddenly stopped working
Also, I've noticed that the gyroscope, orientation, and magnetic field sensors have stopped functioning, rendering apps like Maps and Pokémon GO difficult to use.
The straw that broke the camel's back was that the screen cracked while in my pocket last night. The screen was against my thigh with nothing else in that pocket.
It has been a mostly reliable device and I would recommend it to others.
I've already ordered a new device; a Moto G4 Plus.
It's been real, guys.
Good choice mate. As a matter of fact, I have moved on as well to Moto G5S+
I always baby my phones and never dropped, damaged or even scratched a single one.
For the first time ever, I had to replace the screen of my ZE551ML due to ghost touches earlier this year... while my old Samsung Galaxy Nexus is still running strong.
Now only 6 months later, the ghost touches are back (as well as a thick dead horizontal line on the lower half of my screen) but go away when I run this app.
I have no idea why it works, but it does.
As well, whenever I scroll it reads it as a tap.
Just waiting for my Mi A1 to arrive and I'm abandoning ship.

Looks like you made a pretty good choice too! I probably would have chosen the same phone if I had known about it, but the Moto G4 Plus was the most attractive choice that was in my price range. Plus I'm really liking the idea of having a fingerprint scanner.
Have you flashed any custom ROMs on your G5S+?

I think the screen is the biggest issue for me. When I bought my ZF2, the screen was already cracked. Bought a new one, changed it out (with a few difficulties) and everything seemed fine. Then I started noticing that the screen would flicker every so often, especially after charging or being asleep for a while. That screen ended up cracking, followed by two more that had the bottom half of the screen becoming glitchy. The screen I have now is, for whatever reason, very sensitive and wakes up often in my pocket.
It was a good phone but I think it's increasingly obvious that its bit dated, as well as very unsupported.
Same reason here. Screen got damaged. That's why I was forced to change the mobile.
After 2½ years I got the tearing screen, bought a lcd+frame replacement on aliexpress and replaced it easily, only things I have changed on my phone, still run strong.
I cannot find another phone better that this for the price, ze551ml has an antutu of 55000, SD card, 2 SIMs, buttons not on screen taking estate, 5GHz ac wifi, NFC, quick charge, FHD display, FM radio, smart cover, etc. I got all of this for $199.
I checked the G5S+ but no NFC in the US. About all the sub $300 phone have a Snapdragon 430 which is slower than this 3yo Intel.
Even the G4+ with a snapdragon 617 is slower than the ZF2 in all becnhmark.
Things like Zenfone 4 Max only has a 720p display, slower CPU, no 5GHz, no NFC, no quick charge, nothing!!!

Yeah, I was kind of bummed out they the G4+ doesn't have NFC but I don't really use NFC anyway. I also noticed that the clock speed for the processor for the G4+ is a tad lower than the ZF2; I'm fine with that though. At this point, I'd rather something with better support than slightly better specs.
Other than the processor, they're basically identical: 5.5" 1080x1920 screen, 64GB ROM, 4GB RAM. And I'm really liking the idea of having a fingerprint scanner.
And, actually, according to this, the processor in the G4+ is slightly better:

Have you looked on Swappa? I had seen a G5+ for about $200 (for the 64GB; $170 for the 32GB) on there yesterday. I mean, that's assuming that you're in the US. https://swappa.com/buy/moto-g5-plus-unlocked
The G4+ that I ended up buying only cost me $150. As I've mentioned, the one I'm getting doesn't really lose anything except for NFC but I don't really use that anyway.
To me, the ZF2 is like an old car; works really well when you take care of it but the cost of maintaining ends up being too much and it's just cheaper in the long run to get something a little newer.
The only thing I had to replace (under warranty) was the battery, never had any other problems. Still using Zenfone 2 after two years and a half because I don't have any issues with it. Will eventually change it too, but I guess that will be when the phone won't keep up with apps and games anymore or when it gets damaged somehow.

As a photographer I'm deeply in love with my Lg G5. It's cameras were and still are the best in class, adding GoogleCam makes them even better. Unfortunately I reached the point where the bloody GPS issues force me to move on. Since V20 shares exactly the same cameras as G5, I'd rather get a used V20 than go with G6/V30 or later.
Looks like H990DS or N are supposed to be the best for UK, however I've seen complains about bad reception.
Is this a known issue? Are all H990DS affected?
Are there any issues with GPS with this or other variants?
Any other issues I should be aware off?
Thanks
Alex
You should root your phone to remove screen retention. It's really really annoying. But with root no prob to solve this issue. For me no more issues. the cam on the back is very fragile so cover it with a 9H displayglass for 2 Euro from Aliexpress or so. But even if you're not doing it. It's super easy to replace. In general the V20 is a beast if it's about physical durability. You can almost replace anything with a few screws.

Thanks. I guess you've never tried to fix the LG G5 GPS if you think that these are serious issues.
I can't root since the phone will be blocked by my corporate IT, plus I suspect Google Pay/Credit card apps to stop working too. Hope the retention is not worse than on G5.
Just did more research, looks like the main cameras on G5 and V20 are different... It's 4x3 now, pretty much aligned with what the rest of the world decided to go with! Well, at least the wide-angle lens which I use most of the time still seems to be the same.
The issue I've had is screen burn-in... and it's not really so bad, usually not noticeable.
