[DISCUSSION] Will we love to have ElementalX kernel for Osprey... - Moto G 2015 General

Hello all!
I've been using Moto G series since the original Moto G (Falcon) and Moto G 2015 (Osprey) is my current device. I've seen that ElementalX kernel is available since moto g4, which brings me to this thread, Squid kernel is an awesome one, that's my daily driver, but like every other dev out here, i'm sure he maintains a lot more devices and has a personal life too, and probably that's why we don't really see updates and the rest of the kernels work well on nougat, for stock marshmallow they are not stable enough, at least the latest versions. So, with all the great features and stability in mind, i mailed flar2 to kindly consider building his kernel for Osprey, but he is a very busy person, probably my mail got lost somewhere along with so many mails in his inbox, so i'm asking you this, if you too want this, please comment and vote here, maybe we can show him that we'd love to have his kernel and if we get enough people maybe he will consider it. Thank you people!

Yeah! It will be great

Hello everyone
i did'nt know this kernel. I had a look about it and yes I'd love very much to see it on osprey..

Buy him a moto g 2015 to test on (+a coffee or 2) and he might consider it. It takes a lot of time to make these kernels and you can't just demand it.

we are not demanding it, once we get enough people interested, we'll hear from him whatever he needs to make it. this is the first step towards something great.

nothing too much over the head, lionfish, 400 min freq, intelliplug. I think it's greenify aggresive doze and doze on the go and power nap that does the magic. amplify just compliments the whole thing.

[THANK YOU] DamianGTO Ultimate Kernel & TouchWizGTG Launcher

First of all, I know this isn't the correct place for me to post this, but as a low post count user of this forums, I can't post on the correct section.
Next, I'd like to say how impressed I am with DamianGTO's Ultimate Kernel. I've installed it yesterday and my SGS is lightning fast. The feel of smoothness and speed of this kernel just made my SGS brand new, and I only own it for a month.
Battery wise, I've lost 20% battery in 12 hours, considering that I've used GPS for 2 hours, then I've stayed for 6 hours on my parent's house where mobile signal is between bad and total disaster, surfed the internet, my sister played some angry birds, etc. So, I feel this 20% drain is too little to be honest. Overnight I used to loose 14 to 16% of battery. Let's see tonight how it goes. (I forgot to see it last night )
Last but not least, I've also installed GTG465 TouchWiz Mod. I must say this is how Samsung should have done it. The improvements gtg465 added are amazing. Too bad gtg465 has abandoned development because his job here is superb. Hopefully webstar1 will pickup the line and take this to the next step (if there is any).
So, I'd like to send a big thank you to both DamianGTO and gtg465 for putting up such awesome kernel and modded launcher, respectively. I know this is personal, some will hate it, some will love it. But for me, these 2 have received my respect and kudos.
-- EDIT 28 Feb --
I've noted battery drain overnight and it was like 4% only. Leaving wi-fi and 3G off as usual. Probably something else was using more battery, because the difference is too big. Maybe the extra launchers I have removed.
Welcome to the world of developers.
You could always send PMs directly to DamianGTO and gtg465 to thank them personally instead of spamming the forum.....
IMO, all our Devs do a fantastic job of keeping our phones running quickly and smoothly and giving us features that Samsung don't seem capable of. Maybe se should turn this into a general Dev appreciation thread!

Is this Ultimate kernal better than speedmod? What are the differences?
You should try both and see the results for yourselves. A lot of dependencies including the apps you use, lagfix options, custom/stock roms that you use that could bring different experiences to different people.

I liked Damian's better than Speedmod. Battery drains seems to be smaller, overall usage and smoothness is great. But like pikachu01 said, it's personal taste. You should try both and see the one that you prefer. It's always possible to go back from one to the other if you need it

I was intrigued as well. There are rules pertaining to kernels here in xda. If a dev won't comply, the thread gets to be closed down.

Yes I know the rules, but I figured someone would've started a discussion in the general area. Oh well, guess I just did.
I don't know what I expected actually, my experience on any forum is that most people don't research on their own, they come to forums and if the answer isn't there, they give up. I love googling for new undiscovered gems.
Hi!
First of all, I would like to thank you wholeheartedly for the interest in ShinTo Kernel and your time in testing it.
I am sincerely blown away by the spike in interest... Just wow!
In the space of two months I have moved twice across Europe and am currently getting settled in my new home (and waiting for the darn broadband).
I can assure you two things; ShinTo Kernel & PreCog.me are not a hobby.
They are my daily work focus (as in my daily job).
I could extend myself talking about the great projects I have but I am the kind of person that prefers to prove with facts so... Keep an eye on PreCog.me
Ps: i don't want to monopolize the thread so... If you have any specific questions or I can help out in any way, then please do ask
Ps2: I am eternally grateful to xda, civato and all the great ppl here...

ShinTo Kernel v028a005 has over 50 updates/enhancements/fixes and it is compiled with the latest bleeding edge Linaro Toolchain GCC 4.9.2
I also fixed the cosmetic issue of not displaying the kernel name correctly in the TW settings app.
If there are no unforeseeable issues, it should be released around the middle of the week

Benchmarks are different from device to device. They're not a true statement about a kernels performance. I get insane battery, I get lightning fast speeds and I love using the kernel. This is a discussion of the kernel in this thread, that's why I started it. This is not an official Dev thread, that will come later from the Dev. Of you're interested in it, head over to precog.me and read the official kernel page.

Actually it can serve as basis. For example if that user is able to achieve 10hrs SOT, then at least I know that the kernel is capable of going that far. No matter how you force a kernel, if it has bad battery life then it can never achieve high SOTs. It actually us very helpful for one to post battery stats because I can then adjust and try to get close or even surpass the user's settings.
With all due respect, I think you are wrong in saying it won't give me the slightest clue of what the battery life of mine will be. It actually can tell a lot(if I'm doing things wrong or right). That's how users learn how to improve their devices by getting tips from others. And for that reason I'm refraining from flashing it because I have a very good set-up. I know I can go back just with flashing the stock kernel, but we all know that sometimes it doesn't really work 100%. "Something" gets broken somehow at a random chance.

Fair enough, but I still disagree.
For example - on my last cycle I got nearly 8 hours SOT and about 1 day 13 hours on one charge. What can one infer from that? I say another user can infer very little, there are way too many variables.
I use Alliance ROM. This was my first cycle with this kernel. I use only 100% black wallpapers, system, desktop, and lockscreen are all black. One homescreen. Brightness about 40% except for videos. Tasker is set so that screen off=WiFi and data off, and I use a flip cover. I've deleted over 100 apps. I've removed about 25 autostarts with SD Maid, usually only use about 750 mb at startup. I never sync anything whatsoever. Two widgets, clock/weather and music. Location is always off unless I'm navigating.
I could go on, there's more, but I hope you see my point. And that's before the vast amount of kernel tweaks I've set up with Faux Clock, which I'll probably tweak further. And I haven't even mentioned my usage....
With further cycles I'll probably squeeze more juice out of it, who knows?
If you think this will give you any idea about your battery life, fine. But I can't see how it can.
As for benchmarks - a waste of time if you're comparing with another device, only remotely useful if you're comparing performance with different setups on the same phone, IMHO.

To each his own. Don't compare kernels
From my experience, Franco has HIGH focus on battery life and fluidity, VERY less focus on features.
Boeffla is a balance of both. Though I haven't used his kernel, I can't say much.

I am on blu_spark kernel. I am more interested in battery life and stability rather then kernel features and game-performance (I leave all kernel settings to default and do not have a single game installed on the phone). Based on the above do you recommend I give Boeffla a try or stick with blu_spark?
As for Franco kernel - if it has "HIGH focus on battery life and fluidity", I should really give it a try.

battery life regarding custom roms / kernels

i've just bought the oneplus 5 a week ago and i am very impressed with the phone so far but i want some help regarding battery life i'm getting mostly 6-7 hrs of SOT on OOS which is very impressive but i've seen some people here getting like 10 hrs of SOT i'm not a heavy user i mostly use the phone for youtube and music streaming services such as spotify and i also use facebook, snaptchat and whatsapp also my phone is always connected to wifi and i don't do any heavy gaming on the phone so can anybody recommend a good battery friendly rom and kernel which would push my SOT up a notch i've seen in some posts that the lightning kernel with the spectrum app helps alot but i really don't know
i've tried to attach some screenshots of accubattery to show my usage and battery health but it's not allowing me to post links or images it's the first time i make a thread and also i never go past 50% brightness if anybody could provide any suggestions for me i'd truly appreciate it thank you
For me at least, it's hard to say. I know this might not be the answer you're looking for, but the best thing in my opinion, would be to just flash a few ROMs and see which provides the optimal features+battery life for you.
My usage is going to be different from you, so if I say "X" ROM gives me 10 hours of SOT, that may not hold true for you.
Even though you provided some info on what your usage is like, I'd still recommend just flashing and testing out yourself! I feel you'd get the best idea by experiencing ROMs out there first-hand, rather than others recommending what they use/is best for them!

Best Kernel for stock rom?

Hello, i am rooted with stock rom 4.5.10.
Can anyone suggest me a good kernel that could help with the performance of the device. or should i stick with the stock one.
Depends on your usage. If U want a even better performance is ElementalX a good one. Easy flashing process with AROMA options (ability to overclock)!
No such thing as best, just flash a few and see what you feel brings you the best performance
Hi, i am in the same case of you, i have flashed "simpleGX 1.11 kernel" to have performance and a really good battery life. 3days?? may be very light to moderate use?
Blu Spark is designed for performance. Boeffla for stability and Franco to extend battery life. Usually kernels are designed to provide something different than the stock kernel and the description at the top of the thread for the kernel should give you an idea of what the dev was trying to do. I honestly wouldn't recommend ElementalEx. It's a very vanilla kernel that is available for almost every device but they don't do much to optimize the kernel for individual phones. I use Blu Spark. Personally I think you are better off with kernels that are made for stock OOS.

worst answer ever.
I did unlock/root/flash roms on 30-35 devices, for friends/family and myself.
And even if XDA members do not like ''best rom/kernel'' threads, its very usefull for a quick search, because i.e. my friend want simply a stable rom and I don't want to test every roms or read the thread's 200 pages.
Wihout pointing the ''best rom/kernel'' you might maybe help by pointing the cons and pros .
Here my reply for this thread :
After reading the Franco XDA interview, he was pointing the fact that there's not much work to do on kernel in general, because they are out-of-the box already good.
My first device was a desireZ, with froyo 2.2, back in the days, kernel works was badass, and make huge changes to the devices, but now, I agree that there's not much difference, at least for now, since this OP5 is crazy fast.
I do use Franco kernel, as per Franco's thread, he's stating better battery life. well, hard to tell , since he won't achieve 125% better battery life... It might go around 10%. Which is good, but hard to tell on day to day usage, since 10% is about my usgae precision time if I compare all my usage over each days.
So far so good, no cons.

XDA members don't like the "best ROM/Kernel" threads because of my original point, there really isn't a 'best', it is subjective to your needs/usage. A kernel I find to be an absolute beast in performance can end up being mediocre at best to you. And again, that all boils down to each user's unique usage.
Telling a user what works best for you isn't going to be as good as the user trying it out for themselves; getting that first-hand experience with a certain kernel will give that user a much better idea, and that's why I said flash a few and see what they like best (no need to flash every single one or read through 200 pages...).
Like I said, I admit I could have shared my ROM/Kernel combo originally to give OP a starting point, but that doesn't take away from my main point(s).
Anyway, I don't mean to get into a whole debate about this with you, a handful of users have already responded and hopefully OP has found a kernel they prefer.
For what it's worth, I've used both Lightning and Blu_Spark, both have provided me with excellent performance and battery life (On PureFusion).
