Franco starts working on a custom kernel for the OPX! - OnePlus X General

Source
Reddit Comments
He's got a OPX, Nextbit Robin and a OP2. He will develop kernels for all of them, and starts with the OPX :good:
"I'll be making custom Kernels for it. [...] So starting from the left it's the One Plus X, then the Nextbit Robin and finally the One Plus 2."

How does Franco compare to Boeffla?

To each his own. Don't compare kernels
From my experience, Franco has HIGH focus on battery life and fluidity, VERY less focus on features.
Boeffla is a balance of both. Though I haven't used his kernel, I can't say much.

Thanks for the explanation. I highly recommend you give Boeffla a try. I'm running it right now and it's perfect

I surely will when he builds one for CM13.
I can't stand OxygenOS
Looking forward to Franco as well, looks like we'll have awesome battery life.

I am on blu_spark kernel. I am more interested in battery life and stability rather then kernel features and game-performance (I leave all kernel settings to default and do not have a single game installed on the phone). Based on the above do you recommend I give Boeffla a try or stick with blu_spark?
As for Franco kernel - if it has "HIGH focus on battery life and fluidity", I should really give it a try.

But we need to have the donation version of the app to use the configs, right?

Great! Thanks for sharing.

Nope. Only few advanced features require donation version. For normal tweaks, normal version is enough.

The man/woman for whom I wrote the reply told that he/she would leave the kernel settings to stock.

The kernel gives pretty good battery life in its stock settings.

@SlanDev Franco is waiting for the release of OOS3.

It makes sense... I too am waiting for OOS 3 sources to start a planned project....

You'll have a long time to wait for this. I don't think that the OPX is getting any MM update.

[Q] For you all, Faux or Franco is better at all?

As the title
which you will recommend to use?
faux. I usually get better battery life and longer SOT. Others might disagree of course.

there are the recommended settings in the 2nd or 3rd post in faux's thread. First check which version of the kernel you want to use, being; mainline, turboboost mainline or ultimate and apply the preferences whether you need performance or battery

No particular reason why I am using Franco's Kernel. Using the Linaro one right one and battery feels quite long and the phone feels really smooth. Haven't tried any of the latest Faux kernel's.

i was compare it to the franco's one. faux is better with its app , faux has many setting to the kernel.
Just my opinion:good:
Faux. Here's a screenshot from today on the latest beta. And I get 3-4hrs of battery even with media apps(YouTube, browser, etc). The ROM is uxylon in case you were wondering.

totally stupid, agreed. but.... i always jump at an opportunity to share my opinion. franco is solid and stable and fast, but i dont like that im not able to tweak my interactive governor and and hotplugging settings quite how i want. i hear faux is awesome, but after trying to get my colors right and failing bad, i give up. i would give it more of a chance without faux colors, its just too many options to spend the time trying to make the screen look good. currently on trinity which is giving me everything i was looking for.
What's the better kernel? threads aren't allowed. By the time you get enough responses to this thread to be meaningful, you could have flashed both kernels and made up your own mind.

Kernel 1 v 1: Franco kernel vs Elemental X

Mainly heard about these two when looking for kernels. But which one would you prefer if you had to choose?
How bout you just try them both out? All of these kernels devs are great and a topic like this shouldn't be made in my opinion, so you should just try them both out and pick the one that suits you best.
i use elementax, mostly because i can oc to 3033mhz stable. but both franco and elementalx are great kernels. but it would all depend what you are looking for.
I've tried both kernels on multiple phones and roms. Personally I like franco, but I've supported both devs by purchasing their apps. Without these guys we wouldn't be able to be crack flashers.

on multiple phones it wouldnt matter, they arent nexus 6 . and yes, they are very good developers. and yes, there are even more of them here on xda

Ktoonez kernels were the best for the most part loved his work.
Try lean kernel.

Elemental......... closest thing to KTK

Try zen kernel. Try all.of em. To each their own.
I always used ElementalX kernel on my old HTC One M7, it was great. In spite of that, I'm actually using Code_Blue on the Nexus 6, mostly as it is well-known for its good impact on the battery life... and it has just been updated!
i paid for both franco and elemental app.
but in the end i use leankernel.
Any big benefits too the kernels vs stock
Code blue
You are seriously missing go out if you limit yourself to just those two, there are so many great kernels for shamu it's almost too much. My personal favorite is lean kernel, but the others are all good. Try several out, and use them for at least a few days each. Also, make sure you are ONLY changing the kernel to keep everything else constant.

necessary its not, but it does let me enjoy the phone that much more. plus it doesnt really affect my battery life, since i see from 5.5-6.5 hours sot every day at 3033mhz/300mhz. its just a keeping me happy sort of thing, thats all
Elemental all the way. They are indeed all great kernels though.

Better combo rom+kernel

I try some roms and kernel already, all is very good. But in your opinion, which combo give more battery life without lose. Much power or have so much configs
Completely subjective honestly. My experience may differ completely to yours, so I wouldn't feel like I'm doing you any favours by recommending what I use.. If that makes sense. The best thing to do is, when you have a lot of free time, try out a few roms and kernels and work out which works best for your usage
Yes, it's really trial and error and compare and read the kernel thread discussion....
Yes, some opinions always great

i guess OP wanted to know something like a personal opinion.... im using PN with EX kernel and it is awesome, battery life gets random at times but its not laggy... but i dont play too heavy games either, dont got the time

Hey, no one said you have to like it
Talking only about MM systems.
DU is my prefered in this moment. Has good features, smoothness and battery.
AICP is the most complete but I'm not getting results in smoothness and battery as good as DU. Gets better with Lambda kernel.
crDroid is maybe the most smooth, has good battery but not so much features.
The best MM custom kernel actual is Lambda, specially the most recent builds (Beta).
Off course devs are working to get their ROMs better at each build, so it's always worth to try each ROM for yourself and see what you think about latest builds.

Yes, I mean Marshmallow.
I heard DU 6.0.1 is having some problems with Bluetooth. I said I heard because I never use Bluetooth, so I can't be sure about how it is.
Camera is also not so good as stock camera, but still is pretty good, I can use it as daily camera. Custom ROMs AOSP/CM have not so good camera, it's common, but I think it worth cause you gain with smoothness, features (Ambient Display, Easy flashlight, Themes, Navbar and Statusbar configs, and lots of other features). You can have more control over your system.

[REQUEST] Can anyone port EMUI for our device?

It has really good themes. If this isn't the right section for request, inform me
CM and DU are working like charm already for our device. Why you want a heavily skinned UI again for the device?
I think MIUI wasn't enough for you screw things down! ;P;P
Try CM 13 its way smoother or snapoier than other heavily skinned UIs.

Are you on latest official nightly?
CM is not lagging even a bit on my device try clean installing the next nightly and use Slim Gapps Zero this time.
Also flash Berserk latest kernel and tune it as per the OP of Berserk Kernel thread.
Flash Xposed and install Greenify and activate the Greenify module in Xposed framework, Turn ON the 'Aggressive Doze' from settings of the Greenify App and hibernate unnecessary apps from running in the background.
The combo of these things will give the best Battery life and performance.
I personally get 6hrs of SOT daily.
