If you need your MSL excuses when talking to Sprint - Sprint LG G6 Questions & Answers

I have an employee account, so I have to deal with chat/ care always when swapping devices.
For the first time I had a rep stall a few times in chat about the MSL
Finally coming back to asking " why do you need the MSL"?
Its apparent that this has been discouraged from Sprint, They will give it to you, but they will ask for a legit reason.
If you want one that actually IS Legitimate... Just simply state you want to change your Slot Cycle Index because you don't have great reception, and you are aware it will drain the battery. Or you are tired of having your phone go to voicemail after 3 rings ( it increases the radio's beacon on your phone's timer so it searches for a call/ data at a faster rate)
This is something ive done with every phone for the last decade.
The last two devices Ive had have not been rooted..because of these bootloader lockdowns.. But for tethering i just use "Easy Tether Pro" and it works like a charm and you don't need to change any MSL settings.

Thanks for the Post .
Have you been able to Change the slot cycle index it on your G6? That option is locked on mine.
This and the ACCOLC setting where my favorite setting to change as soon as i got a new phone back in the day.

Hey guys(gals),
I have an interesting dilemma. I have had 5 hero's in a month. One was defective hardware (so we can rule that out, it was the green phone button) but the other 3 have had an interesting issue. I will have the phone for about 4 days (this is with stock android, and two rooted with MoDoCo) and then all data ( including texts, voicemails, incoming calls) will stop. They only way to retrieve said data is to make an outgoing call, then everything floods in. The local sprint store keeps replacing the phone, but I refuse to believe that I am that unlucky. Any thoughts? Anyone having a similar issue?

Do you have a significant other that could use your phone on their plan for a few days to rule out your account specifically?
Your issues sound strange, and not related to the phone. It's hard for me to believe (like you also) that its the phone since you've had four of them now with the same issue. Also, you've tried different roms, so that also makes it more difficult to be a phone issue. Are you just running a bone stock one? Or are you installing particular apps? you might see if you can't replicate it with no additional software for a few days.
@kmart
My Father and I are on the the same plan, (i.e. both on unl.) so that rules out service. The last phone, (no. 4) I left bone stock. No extra apps (except for Handcent SMS [ on a side note, I have run both ChompSMS and Handcent, so I do not think it is either]) and it still had the same exact issues.

Sounds like a problem with you account's provisioning or something. Mostly, it just sounds like a huge pain in the ass.

I had this exact same issue with my phone, it is definitely an account issue, get your msl number from them, mine was fixed after I did a ##786# menu then reset
they disabled texts and reenabled them on my account before they did this, and then they worked ever since
Have you changed your mode of operation setting? I haven't ever changed this but had a co-worker who changed it on his hero and it stopped getting text messages and voicemails until he made a phone call, once he changed it back it started working fine. Mode of operation needs to be set to Hybrid. You can find it under Settings->Wireless Controls->Mobile Network Settings. Hope this helps
Hey guys,
Thanks for the help, so no dice. I have left my Mode of Ops. in Hybrid (although, if you leave it on Ev-do is is kosher) and doing a reset does not work...It is a huge pain in the arse....
Well sh*t. I thought the last phone was the key, but here we go again. I got my MSL and did a reset, no dice, got Another phone....phone No. 6...Sprint has no idea what the hell is going on. Personally, I think something in the phone is crashing software. I have no idea what could be, but wtf.
I've had similar issues before. It's definitely an account issue - not on your billing account, but your specific phone number in the carrier's system.
What I did was fight for months with Sprint, kept talking to retarded tech support reps who know absolutely nothing, fighting with their managers, fighting with their 2nd and 3rd level tiers, and been told 1000 times my issue was fixed, just to have it reoccur in a month.
Honestly, unless you feel like fighting like that, I suggest you call your carrier and ask for a new number. When they create a new number for you, your account is practically changed, and everything will work like new. You just have to suffer with a new number, which is only annoying for a month or so until everyone updates to your new number.
Good luck man, I hate when that kinda crap happens. Not so much because of the issue, but mainly because no carrier has any sort of good tech support and would rather hang up on you than try and troubleshoot anything. They're completely stupid.
Well, to be honest, I have to keep this number, it is my business number..So, what I am going to do is keep going to into the headquarters store here in omaha. Then. Once I get to about phone no.7/8/9 I am going to call sprint retention services. At that point I will have 7/8/9 phones on record, and they will fix it and give me the 3 months free, or I will walk. I like sprint better than others around here, but damn I am getting pissed...

Yeah dude. I was pissed too. Good luck man, I know how you feel. Sprint is great, but when they f**k up they really f**k up and it's a pain in the ass to get things fixed.
27s, this isn't a retention issue, this is a Tier 3 tech support issue. They need to go into your account and completely deconstruct it, and put it back together again. Basically, it's a glitch in the system causing your provisioning to bork itself. I've seen it before, and yes, it's a pain in the ass to fix, but if you get a caring/dedicated tech, it's not even close to impossible.
Frankly, call into sprint, get on the line for tech support. As soon as you connect, ask for ADVANCED tech support. Don't give up until you're on the line with them. They'll be your saviors in this issue, mark my words.
Edit: For the record, I'm a former Sprint tech. I've had to do this before for customers, so I've had experience in the issue.
Hey thanks for the advice....I will do this first thing tomorrow....I don't suppose retention will give me anything will they....The sprint store in omaha is like 100 blocks from my house....gas$$$...haha

Ring Delays Problem?

So i have had my hero for a couple of months now, and ive been noticing i get voicemail notifications without my phone ever even ringing, i was hoping u guys could help me out and to see if you guys have the same problem
so i had my friend sitting right next to me and he called me, it took like 8+ rings on his side before my phone actually began ringing on my side and then after 2 rings that i heard on my side the phone went straight to voicemail.
but it didnt happen all the time, sometimes my phone rang right after we heard 2 rings on his side, which i think is normal
now i use google voice, i was wondering if you guys experience this as well? and if so do u use google voice or normal voicemail.
also i think its worth to mention i changed my phones meid to match my old lg rumor. so it is a cloned phone, but the original donor phone is always off with the battery out.
this problem sucks cuz people call me and in essence i dont pick up their calls because my phone sometimes doesnt ring n people think i ignore them...
I haven't ever had that problem (and I also use GV). But you can change your slot cycle to tell it to poll the tower more often which might help you. Now there is going to be an extra delay because of GV, but it shouldn't take 8 rings. If this doesn't work then there might be something causing a slow down on your phone which is why it takes a while to realize it's ringing, or it might be the MEID swap causing strange things.
##3282# Set slot cycle index to 1. Your phone will poll towers more often and will respond to incoming texts and calls faster.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1391130
this was set to 2 so hopefully this works, what about 0?
0 might drain your batt faster then normal
So I went to "##3282#" to make a change and it wouldnt let edit anything because it asks for password, anybody know what could be the password?
The password is actually your phones individual MSL#. It can be obtained by calling Sprints tech support. They might refuse to give it to you, but just tell them what you want it for and they probably will.
had my MSL thankfully since i make notes for all my sprint calls.
thanks for this tip - hope it helps me out too!
I just did this, lets see what happens.
Any updates on this? I am set to 0 for slot cylcle but consistently get more than 2 rings before my phone rings.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think slot 0 is reserved for police and other first responders. You're not supposed to use it without permission.
I believe I read somewhere that changing the slot cycle index on the phone itself will not actually change anything, except that it may drain your battery faster. As I understand it, the tower's setting for that attribute will override end-user devices' settings.
FWIW, I changed it on my Hero, and it made exactly zero difference in the ring delay (timed in seconds). If you watch a timestamped kernel debug log when a call comes in, you can see that it simply takes the phone a long time to get its sh*t together and start ringing. This is common across HTC phones. Piss-poor design for a phone if you ask me.
My phone takes 2-3 rings on the callers end before my phone rings, this would be fine if it didn't go to voice mail after 6 rings. Is there any way to change how many times the phone rings before it goes to VM?

According to Sprint's latest answer, "no". With past phones, Sprint HAS changed that parameter for me. My previous phone would ring for more than 60 seconds before going to voicemail. Sprint now tells me that is not possible, nor was it ever possible. Obviously, it *was* possible. I didn't just imagine that it would ring for a full minutes.
The ring configuration is actually managed by number of seconds before voicemail, as the number of rings depends completely on what ringtone you use. I forget exactly what number they have it configured for currently (I know its less than 30s), although I do remember that the Hero itself only rings for exactly half of the Sprint-specific time. Sprint did acknowledge that that Hero (and other smartphones) have a problem with the ring time, but they offered no suggestions to fix it.
I was going to use this method to try to reduce my ring delay. When I put in ##DATA# nothing happens on my phone. I know the debug codes work because I can put in *#*#4636#*#* and it brings up a screen. Any ideas why this code doesn't work?

Negative, that is the Access Overload Class.
I have my slot index set to 0 and my ACCOLC set to 2. I make it a full day without charging for whatever it is worth.

SCI - Slot Cycle Index - This determines how often a handset polls thenetwork for coverage and incoming packets. The default value is 2. A"Slot" is 1.28 seconds and doubles with each incremental change from 0to 7 (0=1.28, 1=2.56, 2=5.12 seconds, etc). setting a handset to pollmore often may use noticibly more battery if coverage is thin orlacking.
ACCOLC - Access Overload Class - This code determines your priority tomake and receive calls on the network. Higher the number, lower thepriority. Lower the number, higher the priority. Emergency Servicesreserves 0 + 1 (please do not use these) leaving your choices to 2-9.Years ago we began defaulting this code to the last digit of a usersMIN to help assure equal priority seeding.

I found this thread on the EVO forum and decided WTH I'll try it. Worst that can happen is I have to go back to the stock prl cause it doesn't work. However when I tried it, I have significantly less ring delay "lag" and not one call has gone directly to VM. Hope it helps everyone that is having this problem. Please report back with results.
BTW I had no hand in figuring this out I am just passing on my findings. all credit goes to techknowfile.

I tried this just for the heck of it and not 10 minutes after I rebooted I kept getting "Error 67 Data Call Failure your Sprint PCS Vision user name or password is wrong"
Maybe I did something wrong, but as soon as I put 60065 back on my phone it went away.
For reference I am in Knoxville, TN

Luckily the area I live in has excellent sprint coverage (better than big red) Just wish we had 4g...one day...
This problem is the main reason why I will be abandoning my hero soon. I have tried at least a dozen different roms and have yet to find one where the phone function ACTUALLY WORKS............ WTF?? My phone usually rings for 2-7 seconds before going to voicemail in a good coverage area, and normally not at all when I'm at my house (poor coverage). I'm currently using the latest Fresh ROM (2.1.2), have done the slot-cycle mod, and have flashed the overclocked kernel, all to no avail. It may be a fine data device, but is a pretty damn pathetic phone.
Heck, I've even cleared my call history (which at 3 weeks old was long enough to lag the dialer for 4-5 seconds every time it was pulled up), and that hasn't helped. It also doesn't help that the phone app crashes on about 1/3 incoming calls.

I lost my Hero, running WaveSecure!

For all of you who are running wavesecure, don't make the same mistake I did!
Here's wat happened:
I lost my phone after a short walk around the block. I tried to call it to hear if I maybe left it in the pub where I was at the moment.
I called it three times, but the fourth time some ***hole turned my phone off so I succesfully tracked the location a few times and eventually locked it with a message to bring it back to the pub I was in.
This was a big mistake! he never turned it on again. He ended up with a fourhundred euro brick well **** 'm then
I couldn't live without a Hero, so the next day I bought a new one
But my advise to all of you is:
1: Run WaveSecure Preferably cooked into MoDaCo's Custom Rom
2: If your phone gets stolen or if you lose it DON'T LOCK IT, just track the location and the SIM. Until you have enough information to go to the police or something, or go pick it up yourself ofcourse
sorry to hear that buddy...
if someone stole it.. and you lock the phone..
I guess 99% of the time... the phone will go into a trash can
or
they will throw it at the wall to take out their frustration on it, and see how many pieces will hit the ground!!
well its better for it to be trashed than for the thief to sell it and make money.

@1. Absolutely, there is virtually no point in using WS if it isn't in a ROM. You can actually do it to any ROM, since all the update.zip file does is copies the apk file into /system/app instead of /data/app. That way it cannot be uninstalled through the normal 'market' method.
@2. That's a valid point! I suggest people who need to should set a 15minute tracker on it (can be done from the website). I wouldn't suggest manually locking it out, but I might contact the dev and suggest a 'stealth' mode that would allow you to track the phone, and basically turn it into one huge piece of 'spyware' when enabled. Legal issues could be a problem there though, as in nanny state UK, the thief of your phone would have the same rights to privacy of his/her illegal use of you contract as you would have normally.
<Rant>
A friend of mine had their PAYG phone stolen. So I called up for them (because 'I'm good with these sorts of things', apparently, and got the SIM cancelled. I checked the balance on the phone, and they told me there was about £1 off it since the theft. I had answered all the usual security questions like 'How much did you last top up by?' and 'How do you normally top up?' and 'What postcode do you tend to keep your phone in most of the time (ie. overnight)?' etc.
So, I asked them if they could give any details of the usage, and after a bit of polite chat and banter, they said there were quite a lot of SMS messages sent to various numbers, but they couldn't give any more details. I considered escalating this issue, as the account holder was my friend (who was sat beside me at the time listening on speaker phone, and who was happy for me to 'act on his behalf', yet they wouldn't tell us any of the details. They also claimed to not be able to track the Cell-ID of the phone, which I know is nonsense, as their own security question was to do with where the phone is normally kept overnight. If they had given a postcode, that could have been given to the police officer who had been 'assigned' the case.
</Rant>
But the network wouldn't give the info to the 'account holder', so I would strongly recommend that everyone installs WS, at least before 31 Jan, so they get it free on their IMEI for life. That way, you can locate the phone every 15 mins, and also use 'backup' to see their call history/SMS history. Could help get it back, or at least 'intimidate' them if you live in a country where you actually have a right to your own property...
But let's not let this go off-topic, so sorry for the rant, but yes, I think WS is important to be installed to ROM (ie. Modaco)
I looke at this app, but there is a strange behaviour with sms sent with charges because of an international location, am i wrong ?
Ciao
Fred
I've not found any international SMS charges.
AFAIK, they use data for all communications back to the servers. The only times I've seen SMS are that if you forget your PIN, the app will send it via SMS to a buddy (who is usually in your country).
Also during activation, it sends an SMS to you, (but in the UK SMS is free to receive, and calls are free to receive). Also, locking the phone via internet or by SMS will result in an SMS sent from them or another phone, but again it is only receiving the SMS...
Do you pay to receive SMS where you are? Otherwise it seems to use data as its main communication medium.
My latest phonebill was exactly the same as the one before and on WS's site it says that it's completely free of charge for android I recall.
This guy still hasen't turned it on, lost hope a little bit, but I still check every day to be sure.

This app is awesome. For me it nearly beats locale. I lost my phone on a drunken night and did a locator search for it. It pinpointed to the exact location where my phone was. I left my phone with a mate and forgot to get it back. But the sheer usefulness of the locator is a win for me. Yes i would even pay for this app as well!

Sadly no, but it uses google's location service which works with wifi, network, or GPS, so if gps is turned on and you track the phone you get an exact location.

Hmmm. You should maybe send a wipe command to the phone too. If it is ever turned on, all your personal data will be gone from it.
Have you checked the last SIM number in it was yours (I think it's under Track on the WS site)?

Already did, he never turned it on again. Eventually, just to be safe I blocked my SIM via my provider. So now it can't receive SMS's anymore, so I can't give any commands anymore. But if he puts in another SIM I can track it again plus I know his phonenumber so I can terrorise him, or the second better option is to go to the police with his number
Yeah. If they try to use it, WS servers will find out the number. Have you looked at IMEI barring it (presume you're on GSM) via. your network. But it might be more 'fun' not to. Maybe in a while they'll think the heat is off and turn the phone back on with a SIM...
That's when the 'fun' begins Do the police in Netherlands do anything about this sort of thing? Here in the UK they'll do naff all unless you can tell them who's got it or where it is. That's where WS comes in...
Either that, or you could sign them up to loads of premium-rate reverse-billed SMS subscriptions on their no. (presuming that is legal over there cough cough!) That could be quite amusing to sign them up to all these €3 per SMS ringtone and game services. xD

Password Woes Freezing Phone

Good Morning good people,
So, I have recently synched up with my company's Exchange Server with their blessing.
I am having trouble with the calendar, but I may address that in another post if I cannot figure it out.
PASSWORD PROBLEMS are what I am writing about.
They have enabled a setting on the server that forces the phone to use a PIN to unlock the phone.
For me, this in and of itself is a nuisance. I would rather not use a PIN before I slide my phone on, but even more so it is causing errors and crashes especially if I have a reminder come up as my phone boots up.
For example: This morning when I turned my phone on it came to the initial screen to unlock the phone. There was a meeting reminder present. I tried to snooze it and the phone crashed giving me the option to report to MS. I reported to MS. The screen then gives me the option to "exit" what I am assuming is the lock screen. She is frozen. It won't let me do anything.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A MONTH...I had to pull the battery and I got my phone back. This has happened now four times since I started using this yesterday.
SO:
1. Any idea?
2. Anyone have a registry tweak (rather a tweak than a CAB) to disable the mandatory PIN?
Thanks in advance.
Since you're using syncing with an Exchange Server then, the Exchange Server policies are in force. Try talking to your Exchange Admin and see if they are willing to take off the PIN Requirement Policy.
I appreciate the response.
Not a chance.
FQHC. Federal money.
I was hoping for a registry tweak to get around it.
It is definitely wreaking havoc with my HD2.

Sounds like you are out of luck, domain polices are in place for a reason. If you did override them you would be liable and on the hook for any damages that result from your loss of the phone. Not a something id want to worry bout, especially in the financial industry. you could have the feds coming after your ass
Heres a tip. maintain separate work and personal phones. My work offers a phone and usage, both for work and after hours use. Company uses sprint/nextel and i have an 8350i though work because it needs the nextel radio.
As soon as i get home that 8350i goes on the desk and doesnt move till the next morning.
I get the choice of what i want to use in this case my HD2, up until the evo there was nothing on sprint/nextel i wanted and even if i wanted to i couldn't go evo on the company account since there's no nextel radio, though there is an android phone coming out on sprint/nextel with an iden radio next month. The motorola i1. it still uses the iden network for data though, so that's kinda crappy, iden data is worse than GPRS. They should have done an iden/cdma hybrid phone. iden for radio, cdma for cell and data. This is possible. The Motorola Buzz that sprint/nextel had a few years back was just such a hybrid.
I dont have to worry bout someone else snooping though my phone usage records
I can do whatever i damn well please with the phone and not get stuck in a situation like yourself where company policies have locked down my phone.
Not to mention if you get ****caned at the company you work for, you've gotta then go get your own phone and get everyone your new contact info.

Actually Verizon says it show the GN3 activated, but l have no service/phone/data/anything at all. They tried 5 different GN3's and 13 different SIM cards before they gave up trying to activate. My number works/activates just fine on my GN2. So they gave me a temporary number yesterday to see if it was a problem with my particular phone number and sure enough, my GN3 activated on the temp number. When I switched back to my reg # it wouldn't connect...again. Then I went to work which was about 10 miles away and the GN3 activated on my reg#. I called my wife, made a few texts, surfed the net, etc... for about 2 hours, when I got about 8 miles from home, I lost all connection again... What gives here? It's the weirdest problem I've ever seen. I'm home now, and tried activating it again with no luck. Any thoughts??
I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for this thread, if so please move??
Mine wouldn't activate for the first 20-30 minutes or so. I removed the sim card, reinstalled then went on the website and updated the Note 3 in formation for my line. Had keep refreshing my lines info on the Web page about 2 more times and hit accept before it Finally activated. Took about 5 additional minutes after removing the sim. Not sure if that will help, but hope you get it working.

Well seeing as how I got mine on 10OCT2013 at 10 am and it still hasn't activated, I think it's not going to at this point. I may sadly have to go back to my GN2 and return the GN3 altogehter. :crying:
Mine seemed stuck on activation, ended up using my old sim card, activated almost instantly.
Update: just got off phone with Big Red and they said that for some reason when I'm on my "home" towers, my activation has trouble letting go of the GN2?? Maybe it really is hard to say good-bye...
They are working on it now...
I've always had an issue activating my old number on a new phone with a new SIM.... I've always just switched my old SIM card in and it's worked perfectly lol
Make sure the SIM card has been linked correctly to your phone number. The easiest way is to look on the VZW paperwork that came with the phone and make sure it's your phone nbr and not another person's on your plan.
I am having more or less the same issue.
To make a long story short, whenever I leave the "home" cell tower that the phone was activated on, it will not connect to any kind of network whatsoever. It just shows a circle with a line through it, and at the same time it reboots itself, randomly and frequently, even when it isn't being touched. All of these problems go away as soon as I get back home to that cell tower. I wonder if the original poster activated his phone at work the first time, and that's why it only works when he returns to work?
I have tried 3 different SIMS to fix this: the one that came in the GN3, the one from my old Galaxy Nexus, and a brand new one from a Verizon store. I have done half a dozen factory data restores.
My next step is to try an in-store swap. A local store around here first refused to hold a phone for me to swap, then when I got there (or rather when a family member got there), we were told that there was a master ticket for this issue and there was a freeze on doing any exchanges until Samsung released a "fix". My subsequent conversations with Verizon tech support have confirmed that the whole story about a master ticket and not doing exchanges was a complete lie. The stores are actually required to uphold the 14 day worry free guarantee no matter what. Obviously this store didn't want to give up a phone to me that they could sell to someone else. They weren't just being unhelpful, they were running interference on resolving my problem for their own greed.
I had an activation problem in store yesterday when swapping my note 2 for note 3. The sales rep entered the sim card info that was on the sticker on the box for the sim card that comes with the phone.
It all ended up causing major activation / service connectivity issues because the sim card info on the box did Not match the actual sim card number for the sim pre-installed on the phone.
This is apparently an issues for some other people as well. If the sim card in the phone is not reconciled with the info on the box prior to entering the info into Verizon's system.... You will be in for a time consuming headache

Switching your device or SIM will not work. I have now gone through 6 GN3's and almost 20 different SIM cards. It's the towers/service from Verizon. They have noted that this is a problem and are working diligently to fix it...lol Meanwhile, I've returned my GN3 and will wait until they fix this disaster. This rollout is almost as bad as Obamacare...haha

Mine kept trying to activate on the phone and would continually fail.
I thought I had a faulty device and was going to go to the store. Something told me to login to MyVerizon online on my computer [since I kept my old phone off as directed via the on-screen instructions] and poke around and see if there was anything there that might be able to help me.
I clicked on my line, and the Manage My Device link on the left hand side of the screen and ended up being able to complete the activation via the website. Re-booted the phone, and then voila~! Activation complete.
FYI, I was migrating from an iPhone 5 to the GN3.

Yeah I tried that as well. I'm not sure there is anything I haven't tried. I've returned my device and decided to stick with my Note 2. Maybe when Verizon gets their heads on right and fixes this, I'll come back.
