Phone losing battery at an alarming rate - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted Moto X Puré and ever since I got back from vacation it's been losing battery extremely quickly. I lose at least 1% a minute while the phone is on. According to the battery it is mostly the screen taking it up. Attached is a graph showing everything.

Have you rebooted your device? Did an app get updated and/or go rogue? Are you getting wakelocks? What is your SOT? Are you playing Clash of Clans (which is at the bottom of your screenshot) while phone is powered on?
You have practically no details or troubleshooting steps taken which could mean any number of issues. Do some troubleshooting and if you still can't resolve the issue, post more details on the issue and what has not worked. This will help in narrowing down the potential causes of your issue. If you are able to resolve your issue, please report back.

Yes, I have rebooted my device. Not sure if an app went rogue but some have definitely been updated. not sure about screen on time or wakelocks, but I do have greenify installed. I am playing clash of clans most of the time the phone is unlocked.
I am kind of a noob so I am not really sure how to trouble shoot it.

Same here, I have my phone since October 2015 and from the beginning of 2017 the battery is so bad I charge it 3 to 4 times a day because I am a heavy user. I think what made it go this bad I used to drain my battery then charge it to full, I have been reading it is better practice not to let the battery drain it will make the battery last longer, if you have moto support in your country get a new battery, problem solved.

Games like Clash of Clans are somewhat heavy on battery. Are you using Wi-Fi or cell connection to play? They that you take a bigger hit on mobile data typically. If you are rooted, use an app like gsam or better battery stats to get more detailed battery results. I know BBS will give you SOT and wakelocks among other things.
For the most part Greenify will help some, but it is geared for suspending/hibernating apps that you want to prevent s staying in the background.

Looks like Governor settings were changed to me personally, even for clash of clans that's heavy drain. I can get straight 2 hours SoT with Coc a lot of the time. When your in battery tap screen, you'll get the info on how long you get.
Also, I recommend looking up "cpu monitor" in the store, the second one listed is the one I've always used. After a day or two of it running you should get a good idea if you have a app or service doing it.

I have had the same problem. I have a day one Moto X Style (Pure) and 3 or 4 months ago the battery life dramatically changed. At the end 1 month ago the phone started to power off at the rest of 35% battery power. Because of an unlocked bootloader my guarantee was gone. So i ordered an original Motorola FX 30 Battery (2810/3000 mAh min/typ is important!) on eBay. Do not buy any other battery than the original one. Other batteries (for example the white looking ones on ebay) are not original and turbo power (fast charging) will not work!
A smartphone shop nearby helped me to change the battery. Now the phone works like on day one. Good luck.

Ridiculous battery drain on standby

It seems that the battery drain on my newest N7 (RMA'd first one) is waay worse than on the other, I'll attach some screen shots of what I mean.. it may be just the WiFi is using a lot more than the other's :S I left it 4 hours alone with WiFi and the battery drained 20+ % which even with WiFi on seems excessive does it not? Is it possible I got one with a faulty WiFi radio? I will be testing tomorrow (or maybe tonight) to see battery drain with WiFi turned off to compare, because it also seemed to drain fast when I was just out and about with WiFi off :/ worried I have bad battery, deep sleep isn't working right (it is going into deep sleep or at least thinks it is from looking at cpuspy), or faulty WiFi... or just too early to judge XD has anyone noticed battery improve over time ? I forget if I did was a month ago I got the original
BTW first screen shot was taken pretty much right as I was leaving for work, so you can compare the battery drain there..

I doubt it's a bad wifi radio, its probably an app that is syncing like crazy in the background.
I'm currently watching the MediaServer app use a disproportionate amount of battery (14% and rising). I deleted a number of images which must of kicked in the scanner which must be very inefficient.
I also noticed my N7 become very slow at the same time.
Possibly you downloaded a large amount of images/music/etc before putting your device to sleep...

I really wish I could figure out why maps keeps starting a process.. can you check to see how many instances of maps there are ? In particular one running Prefetcherservice.. as for the other comment, media server is sitting at 6%, android is at 14%, and screen at 67%.. though I did copy a bunch of songs and pictures over after the RMA, is there a way to fix these or should I delete them to see if it gets better ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Sigh, I might just have a bad battery, or preferably poorly calibrated, since another hour of use, just browsing and such, and I'm down 20% more -_- hope I don't have to RMA again

As a side question.. how hot does your tablet get under normal use? Mine has been heating up quite a bit in the battery section i think with just average on browser use :/

Nothing you've mentioned sounds even the slightest bit out of the ordinary. I know a person who thinks they are always sick is a hypochondriac so is someone who always thinks there is something wrong with their computing device a hypo-com-driac?

Bahaha good one I dunno, the problem is that this is literally my fourth N7 since the other three allll suffered from major screen lifting, so maybe I am looking for something wrong just so i can make sure it's perfect... Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Yeah this might be a good time to stop looking for trouble and just enjoy the tablet for a while. I drop mine on the charger in the morning and don't ever really think about the battery other than that. Whatever the battery stats say now they won't say in a week and they won't say after you flash to a different ROM. If you have wifi on apps will sync and the tablet will loose it's charge. I'm never far enough away from an outlet to make it much of a concern. So maybe just take a breather, install the Angry Birds and have some fun for a bit. Eventually we'll have ROM's and kernels that make this thing sip electricity but for now I get the few hours a day I need out of it on one charge so I'm set.

You think the battery life will get much better than what it is? My only other android experience is my HTC Desire Z which has a horrible battery as it is so it didn't improve much at all with custom roms
Speaking of improved life through ROMs and kernels, have you noticed any kernel providing particularly better battery life ? I'm on trinity right now, no voltage changing, but underclocked to 1.1 ghz from 1.3
Factory reset, see if the problem continues. That's the only way decide if it's a HW problem.
And my N7 uses effectively 0% battery in standby, it was off the charger yesterday for 6 hours and when I started playing around it was still at 99%. I turn off wifi on screen off, however.
Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 to find out what's waking up your phone, the apk is in the second post. Install, charge it up, unplug, leave for 4 hours idle then look at partial wakelocks and alarms.
I saved quite a bit of standby time by disabling location services and Facebook.
If your not using nfc that could save battery?

I used Better Battery Stats to figure out Google Maps was causing wakelocks. I cleared data in the maps app and now my 7 idles without much battery drain at all.

So it seems like partial wakelock is mostly audioout_2 which i assume comes from me playing a game with music amongst other things?
Alarms says com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox has 50 wakeups, and maps has 38 :S why does maps keep trying to kill me?! and what is the googlequicksearchbox doing waking the tablet up...
Wlan_Rx_wake seems to be the culprit of semi bad battery. Is there a way to prevent the tablet from waking up all the time? Maybe just unsync or turn off WiFi instead?

When my battery drain was bad I had something like 250+ wakeups from maps under the alarms section in only a few hours off the charger and Maps was showing up as the most common reason for partial wakelocks.
I think AudioOut_2 is normal - Im not sure what it does though. Im now at 8+ hours of standby with 99% battery. Under alarms im showing 138 Maps wakeups and 76 from google quick search box. My drain is all gone now though so i assume this is within normal range. The better battery stats thread and a few other threads on XDA have detailed descriptions of the different battery draining wakelocks and possible remedies. Not all wakelocks are bad though.

Anyone have bad battery life on g2? Any fixes?

Has anyone been experiencing bad battery life on the g2? When i first got it a month ago it was amazing easily getting 50+ hours with about 6 hours screen time. But over time its been getting worse. I already did the whole stopping the carrier iq and all that, it still doesnt help much. Now when i go to sleep and wake up 7-8 hours later my battery drains 50% or something like that for no reason, no wifi or anything on or synced. I did see some posts about people experiencing bad battery, this phone is supposed to have amazing battery life whats going on? I rooted my phone, still on stock rom, wondering if anyone has fixed their battery issue. Would installing a new rom like aeon v3 help improve battery like its supposed to be? Its getting frustrating, my gs4 had worse battery but at least the standby times werent as bad as they are on my g2. Any fixes for this?
There has to be something running in the back ground draining battery. If not try finding a battery Conditioning Application

Based on the above it could be a few things.
If you want to check a few things on the phone side you can:
- install GSAM Battery and let it keep an eye on what's actually using your juice. Then either remove, modify, adjust settings, etc, for whatever is using it. If it's an app... delete it. Reinstall it.
- You can try a factory reset
If neither fix it then you can try another ROM, but if your battery is just as bad with a factory reset I'd lean towards the battery. Maybe you have some bad cells.
I've had mine for a bit, and I only lose a little bit if not touched overnight.
My current setup:
- Madhi 4.4 KK ROM (1/18 build)
- Obviously rooted with the above
- Greenify on all my non-necessary apps (hangouts, weather and one other app spared from this)
- All my apps auto-sync features are disabled since I just run it once in a while, and things like mail / etc I don't need push anyways
I get pretty solid life even after a few moths of use now.

first, install betterbatterystats and look for wakelocks, try reseting the device. batterylife also depends on how you use the phone...i can get 9hrs on screen time reading books with still 15% left or drain it in 3-4hrs playing games.

Yes i have downloaded and used gsam battery app. I dont see anything unusual in my stats, also using better battery stats, its been in deep sleep for most of the time, and it doesnt say the phone was on or running when the screen was off. But for some reason i wake up and my battery is decreased by 50% again....I am using greenify and hibernating alot of those annoying apps. I am stopping apps that are running . And on the phones battery manager android system is first with 34% but it says its only been running 11min, and no gps is listed. And my screen on time was 2 hours those are what i foudn when i woke up with 20% left, at night it was 70%. I seriously think my phone is messed up when im using it its not that bad, but for some reason when i go to sleep and leave it alone it dies for no reason....

I definetly would try it. Also you could try different kernel. But its beginning to sound like there could be a defect in your battery. If nothing helps i would send the phone to LG and let the battery replace. You are still in warranty, right?

my battery has a problem too..
when my phone is idle sometimes the battery level increases by 1 or 2.
when im playing heavy games like gangstar 4 the battery decreases every 2 mins and the temperature reaches 40°C. and when im just browsing it decreases every 3-5 mins with a temperature of 34-36°C. and when im watching kuroko no basket (wifi off) every episode just consume 2-3% of the battery (24 mins. = 2-3%)
and the temperature is about 28-30°C.
I think my battery drain problem depends on the temperature

Battery Life Declining

Hi guys,
So bought the Verizon Galaxy S5 for my fiance when it came out. Over the past week or two it's been dying rather quickly. Attached are some battery metrics I took from the screenshot. Do they look normal to you?
It looks like the android system is using up all the battery, but I'm not sure why this is.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Mike
It seems your Gps is on.
Keep GPS off.(Location).
This will help you to boost your battery.
this is perfectly normal. having 35% after 8 hours is actually average

You have unrealistic expectations. Using two thirds of the charge over 8 hours is not atypical. Why do you believe otherwise?
You can do various tweaks to gain a few hours e.g. GPS always off, short screen time outs, perhaps install some inverted apps (black themed screens use considerably less battery), et cetera. Or perhaps invest in an extended capacity battery. Or some people feel that it is easier to carry a spare battery.
.
.
What is everyone on in this thread?! 8 hours is nothing and unless you have been gaming non stop, which seems doubtful considering the display being almost non existent in the log, you should normally get at least 24-48 hours with about 3-5 hours of screen time. Something is wrong with either the software or the battery, but normally it is a software problem, BBS is your friend.

You sir, are a troll until proven otherwise. You are simply wrong, perhaps the reason why all of the other posts disagree with you. 24+ hours is not normal. The only way anyone would get that kind of duration is to have the phone off most of the time and most people do not use their phones that way. The OP had 8.6 hours at @ 32% remaining, a wholly normal result.
Certainly battery life varies widely depending on GPS & wifi use, gaming, screen time and so forth. But to claim that 24+ hours is normal is egregiously specious.

Wow wow, hold your horses, you are being serious? It is completely normal for me with my 900F model and a lot of people are getting it. 24/48 hours is my typical battery with phone on (the battery obviously doesn't count power off, so that is a moot point anyways). I happened to make a SS last month and will share it for you to see and I didn't even try to save the battery, I never do since the battery of the S5 is so exceptional!
I agree, it does not look normal. Something is probably holding wake locks or working the CPU. There's a lot of badly written apps out there, including some of the most popular. I've seen FB messenger and Slacker radio apps use 2-6% CPU in the background for no good reason, consistently until force closed.
In any case, try to install an app that can read wakelocks, like BetterBatteryStats or GSAM. Also check the tasks screen in Android Tuner to see if something is keeping the CPU busy in the background for no reason.
Once you figure out the abnormal drain, try installing my app, LeanDroid to extend your battery even more

Battery Questions

Just got my this phone yesterday (used). I traded my iPhone 6 for it and the guy had only had this phone for 3 days but wanted an iPhone. I have noticed that the battery life is ATROCIOUS on this particular unit. I can go from a full charge to 89 percent in under 15 minutes of screen on time. I am not sure if its because I have been on the phone alot downloading my apps, etc but I really hope this is not how the battery is going to be. I also run Android Wear so Bluetooth is always on but the battery just seems horrible compared to my iPhone 6. Anyone else experiencing problems like this? I have basic apps installed, no junk and I have the latest update from AT&T installed.

Did you update "Blackberry" apps found in the Play Store? They may not show under "My apps" but if you search the play store for "blackberry" then you will see the list of apps that need to be updated.
They are updated and I'm still getting sad battery life.
Battery questions
No... you will get it there.. just go to blackberry world & search there. Just try to update your handset & remove all unwanted apps.

Blackberry World is on Blackberry 10 OS, but on Priv it is the PlayStore
I just downloaded the app "Two Dots" and played it for around 30 minutes. In this time, the Priv got REALLY hot and lost more than 20% of battery. This is really disappointing (the app doesn't even use complex graphics). According to GSam Battery Monitor the hourly discharge rate was 50% of the whole battery capacity.
In general the battery drain is very high when I switch between apps or browsing the web. Onscreen time then is between 4 and 5 hours.
I also tried out the game on my old Sony Xperia Z1 Compact which got warm only a bit.
I guess the snapdragon 808 is very inefficient in the Priv.... do you think this is something to be solved via future software updates? I don't really want to get used to this.

I'm noticing horrid battery life too - as per another thread I've tried disabling the T-mobile app and will report back. Which carrier are you on?

I bought it directly via Amazon Germany, therefore I didn't have any carrier apps.
What's your SOT? I noticed that mine is a bit better since the February update.
Hey all,
I have my Prive sine last monday. The model is STV100-4.
The problem with the battery occurs also on my BB. The SOT is max about 4-5 hours, the phone can also get really hot.
But it was a lot worse before I updated every app and OS after unboxing, so I believe it will be fixed, because it is a problem on software's side.

I can't recall off the top of my head - disabling T-mobile fixed it for me. It will make it through most of the day though, lots of use and bluetooth/wifi/gps always on. Plus Google Now, which is a battery killer. All sync etc is on, so I could easily make a full day if I shut that stuff off. As of right now, I'm on 1.5hrs SoT with 78% battery. Before, that'd have me down near 50.
I can't make any recommendations, I'm afraid. If you haven't got any carrier apps maybe check what apps are using the battery in the first place? I noticed when T-Mobile was acting up, it'd hide as "Android OS" and I'd have an even distribution between that and screen. Now, the screen takes up a much more significant percentage of my battery, so if you've got a similar distribution you'll know what's up.
See what your CPU is up to. I know that's what my rogue app was doing, cranking the CPU for no reason. Maybe you've got something similar going on with a different app. Some people have recommended updating/disabling the BB apps. Maybe give that a shot? I disabled some of mine since I don't use them but that didn't yield much (if any) battery changes. Your results may vary.

Is a high battery usage when screen is on (1%/minute) normal?

Hello,
I am using a Note 3 since yesterday and I noticed a very weird battery usage pattern.
When the screen is on it consumes about 1%/minutes, which looks crazy high to me. On the opposite, when the screen is off it consumes close to nothing.
Is this normal?
I'm running a stock Android 5.0, I factory reset it yesterday and I don't have any power hungry services running in the background.
The phone has not been used for a few months I don't know if that could be the cause of the issue.
It is very normal if 3g or Wi-Fi is on and play games on high brightness.
I am on 3G/WiFi, but I'm not doing anything computationally intensive. I'm mostly reading email, using WhatsApp. I'm not even watching videos.
Brightness is set on 3 out of 10 with automatic regulation so I'd not think it's it.

I think your battery is dead then. Batteries dont like to lay around without being used for a long time :/

That was what I suspected. I think I'm going to order a new battery and see if that helps.
Yep, weakened battery. 1% per minute, while you are just reading emails and stuffs means 100 minutes, that is simply not possible, Note 3 with a fresh battery should output at least 3-3.5 hours of Screen On Time, and a little more if on WiFi.

I'm on Wi-Fi. 7-8hour using, 3.5-4hour Screen On Time. With Clash of Clans 1-2hour Screen-On-Time. Gaming Clash of Clans (drains battery more than all other 3D games). Is this normal? I not sure, other Note3 Snapdragon users also run battery with 8hour with 3hour Sreen-On-Time. Maybe my battery bad? Or good?
Thanks!

Update to Latest official firmware and not use Root if no necessary. Battery is good without Root and latest Stock. 2% per 5minute with Wi-Fi in Internet browsing. I think this is good

Well gaming certainly drains significantly more battery than normal usage, that's for sure, but I honestly have no idea about that game and how much CPU and GPU intensive it is, but if its a demanding game then I would say its normal.

Before you start buying new batteries, I think you should check your phones wake locks.
This method added significant battery life to my SM-N900P. Go to settings/device/sounds and notifications/other sounds and disable Screen Lock Sound, Touch Sounds, and Haptic Feedback. Or just disable everything in that section (which I did)

None of those are active. Also, wake-locks should affect mostly the battery drain when I'm not using the phone (they keep it active). How do they relate to my problem?
i have this problem too!
if turn off power saving its going to die
i try others rom like Pheronsis Rom V.x ... Aurora Rom and many other but those have bad battry drain worse than stock Samy lollipop.
and now on dark lord rom its better and battry using like stock rom.
however i have battry drain!
i changed the battry but it didn't solve my problem!
i think problem is wifi network and everlasting screen on

You can try to track down what's consuming your battery using an app that gives you more insight that the system one. I am trying GSam battery monitor and I think it's quite good.
By the way, it reports that my phone is getting [email protected] I'd like to compare this data with someone else. Also, it reports that the processes taking most of the power are Android System and the kernel, which should mean that I don't have any process eating up too much battery
