How 90 cents saved my Nexus 6 - Nexus 6 General

I was walking down some wooden stairs in my house, holding my phone very clumsily, using this case https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Pre...ctive-Back-Cover-Transparent/32752804770.html and I dropped it. Fortunately, TPU plastic is grippy enough that as it landed on the first stair (there were a lot more stairs for it to fall down), it stayed in place. It didn't bounce, it didn't slide or roll, I just picked it up and kept using it. So I'd say if you have a smartphone, get a TPU case, they're dirt cheap (90 cents for this one) and totally worth the protection. Also the one I use is also very thin, so it won't get in the way at all.

I love Aliexpress. It's amazing how the cheap the stuff is (and free shipping). I've bought tons of Lego minifigs there, got some fidget spinners for my kids, and all other sorts of doo-dads there.

I've used TPU cases on all of my phones. The only time that kind of changed was with the Tech21 TPU impact gel hybrid. They're also over $30+/case.
Running an orange TPU now on my N6.

Thin snap-on case?

What is the thinnest snap-on case? I saw a few "hard cover" cases on ebay but I am skeptical if they are junk. I don't wanna spend $30 on a case, but just want something thin that will protect it from scratches and some bumps.
The sticker protectors are ok, but they don't look the best.
I find that the bodyguardz sticker protectors work wornders. Personally I've used it since 2 months after I purchased my fuze and i don't get any scratches at all and they actually get inconspicuous. No one can tell that I have the stickers on it and it feels really good.
I got a great deal on amazon on a clear plastic case, a solid black case and 2 more screen protectors. Came out to around 8 bucks (including shipping). Check out around there and maybe you can find something nice.
got me a pdair aluminium case for the raphael/touch pro, works great!
I'm a truck mechanic, so I can't use anything else!
Regards,
Emile
damn. that aluminum case sounded so cool! Then it turned out to be hinged.
The aluminum case sucks!!! every time you drop the phone it comes flying out of the case. you have to keep bending back the latch for it to stay closed. the screw in clip in the back striped out in a week.
I'm in concrete, so I wouldn't use this if it was FREE!!!

How do you pack it around...

Just in a pocket? In a case? Does it need a screen protector or is it scratch proof? Rumor has it, Telus is getting it in Canada soon, will pick one up, but wondering if I need a case/sleeve/protector, which are best?
I don't use screen protectors. I use a pouch for general protection when in pocket, etc., but I don't believe in screen protectors - phone has to serve me, and not vice versa. Also, the screen seems to be made from either glass or very hard plastic, so it is not an issue, I think. Screen protectors do make phone look and feel crappier.
I just carry it around in my pocket, no screen protector, case etc.
So far after two months, not one scratch. Everything is still in mint condition.
My previous phones (Touch Dual, Samsung i780, Saumng i600) all got scratched very easily. The Hero seems to be a lot more resistant
I put on the htc screen protector after a couple of days and it ruined the sensitivity, so took it off straight away. Had it since day one (Early august) and no scratches.
However, the metal around the edges is rather soft. I've got quite large (cosmetic) dings on both top corners, so I would recommend a case, since the gel ones are pretty sturdy/cheap/nice. However, i'm really not too bothered by them, so I still take it out fairly often
But if your not going to drop it, then no worries
Get a screen protector, get a silicon gel case. Mine resided in my pocket for a week before I got them, one scratch on the left hand side of the screen as a result.
Its common sense unless you have the money to waste buying new phones.

What do you keep in your pocket? I've kept mine on its own since my old nokia 5510 or whatever, this reduces the likelyhood of scratches etc.
I carry a little keychain torch, didnt think there was anything sharp enough on it, apparently I was wrong
Silicon case I would say pretty much essential but I wouldn't bother with any kind of screen protector. The silicon is good also in that it gives you more grip on the device but bad in that if you always have your phone on vibrate it kind of absorbs some of the motion so you don't feel it (or hear it buzzing) so easily.
i have it in a simple microfibre bag in my pocket. the microfibre is nice because everytime i pull it out the screen is cleaned from all that grease and dirt... also i don't have to worry scratching it when it isn't alone in its pocket (which happens occasionally, at work i carry a second phone for example). i wouldn't put my key or anything else with sharp edges in the same pocket though, the pouch is only fabric...
i don't use a screenprotector, didn't get one with the phone on t-mobile germany, and the screen has a way to good haptic to cover it with anything...
running good so far, but it's been only three weeks.
Microfibre bag is interesting, where'd you get it? I like that idea, very light, adds no bulk at all plus the cleaning bonus. And I'm sure it's good at eliminating minor scratches that would come from a coin or something left in pocket. I'd want one very form fitting of course.

can you guys link me to a good silicone case? I installed the invisible shield on mine yesterday.. did not notice any degradation in sensitivity
I despise the body cases and screen protectors. I generally don't keep the devices longer than 6-12 months so they rarely get torn up at all.
I use a simple leather, blackberry case for the hero and used a similar case for my Pre which I was glad to get rid of.

Best Evo Cover

Hey guys I just got the Evo and want to get one of those Skin covers that sticks to the whole phone without having a ton bulk. You guys have any preference on what works well and protects stuff well?
Edit:
Sorry but I see tons of posts on this so I am going to look through those, also see lots of posts about the camera lens cracking, is there a back that will protect my camera when I set it down.

Ringke is a new case... $17 free shipping.
I am currently trying it out.. and I have to say.. it is really great. worth it.
NOT same as the other soft covers that feel like crap and sticky and grab lint from your pockets.
the gray transparent cover does seem a little tight, so go with the other colors.
Seidio Innocase surface. Very little bulk and protects the camera when set down.
Sent from my EVO 3G!
meh, i got a silicone case, a car mount, and a car charger all for less than 16 bucks delivered from amazon.
my case cost somewhere between 1 penny and 3 pennies. it has a good grip to it, protects it from falls, and doesn't add much bulk. i actually like it because it's silicone, rather than plastic, and therefore slippage is minimal. handy if the phone is on a slick surface.
This FTMFW!

It doesnt have the rubbery feeling, so it goes in/out of your pocket like if it didnt have a cover.

that looks pretty good.
I highly recommend the Seidio Innocase II. It's rubberize plastic, thick enough to endure those brutal drops but thin and slick enough to slip into your pocket. Seidio also sells a belt clip that goes with its Innocase II. Highly recommend if you're carrying it with you to work.
As for one of those clear covers, I highly recommend Phantomskinz. I did a ton of research before committing myself to phantomskinz and found out that their protective screens are slightly thicker than most of the competition and they provide you with two sheets -just in case you mess up.
If you're interested in utilizing both (Sedio Innocase doesn't come with sheets), then I'd get the innocase and a front screen cover from phantomskinz. You don't want to buy the whole body cover from phantomskinz because the innocase II has pretty low tolerances when you try putting it on and realize that it wont fit.
I just bought the case mate barely there from newegg for $9.99 plus free shipping. It protects the back and sides but not the top or bottom. This case with my screen protector should hopefullly be enough protection for me without adding too much bulk.

that is crazy!!! big...
like a tank... ugly in my opinion.
great to have, if you think you are going to be in a rough area.. this is great. but not an every day cover.
I hate to add all that heft to my sexy thin device.
As a compliment to a good case, I ordered Stealthguards for all my phones. Work great and the screen protector is smooth.
Also....they are free. Just pay the $2.?? for s/h. Pretty darn good deal if you ask me. And, I took the cutout for the camera and put it over the lens so it doesn't ever get scratched.

I'm a minimalist, so I went with the smallest possible case: Case Mate's Barely There
This is a very high quality case. Truly a skin tight fit. I've dropped the phone a few times and no damage.
Comes with a screen protector I gave to my buddy and he says it's great.
I paid retail (~$25 incl. shipping) but NewEgg has it for $10 shipped: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875998756
Says OOS til Monday.
i used to think the body glove was the best and it was for the hero but for the evo it sucks. broke on me in 3 weeks time. i got fed up and went to my local mall and bought a matte black standard case and it looks and feels great. only $20 too. seems to even keep the dust out more.

Full rugged case for the beach and outdoor activity

Hi All,
tried to search but couldn't find anything.
is there a case for the N4 that covers the entire phone (including the screen and ports) and that will protect it from sand, dust and will give it some kind of splash-proof properties?
hopping to find something similar to the Trident Cyclops case for Nexus S (cant post links yet) i had
Thanks!
Only case I've found that comes close to what you're looking for is the Seidio Convert. It has rubber plugs that cover all the ports as well as the camera but do not cover the mics or screen. The holster does provide good screen protection but not for sand. That being said it is two cases in one and because the convert actually fits over their Surface case it makes the phone rather bulky. I rarely use the convert other than when I need the extreme protection it provides.

Thanks Beaird,
that looks nice. i guess ill get that if nothing better will pop out until summer.
I know this sounds cheap as hell but my "case" for the beach is a ziplock bag. I get the smaller snack bag that is just wide enough, put the phone in and then suck out air with a straw. I did this with the GNex with a TPU case on for some impact but, honestly, in sand there is not much risk of impact.
Worked great. I obviously didnt take the phone boogie boarding but it did get plenty wet without issue. The touch screen worked perfectly through the plastic.
that's actually what i did last time.
not too fond of this solution as the plastic distorts the camera a bit.
But its better than all the other fancy alternatives!
Would love to have one of these for the Nexus 4. iThingies always get all the cool stuff!

Sand will kill your phone.
Glass only scratches with sand basically and we can blame it on sand because it is abundant.
That’s exactly what I’m afraid of. Got a replaceable screen protector for scratches. But nothing better for sand penetration than a simple plastic bag
The lifeproof case does look like ultimate solution!
I’ll shoot the lifeproof people a mail. Who knows we might get a decent case after all
thanks Solutions Etcetera for pointing them out

[Q] Dropped Nexus 4

New here, so be kind
With all the tech reviewers saying the Nexus 4 is quite fragile if dropped, I was wondering if anyone had dropped theirs and it survived.
I dropped mine from about 4ft onto a hard surface, picked it up fearing the worst, and not a mark on it!!
Got out of my car with mine on my lap, dropped 2ft to a concrete floor, scratched on the corner, glass both sides was fine. Lucky escape.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Two sides of beveled glass, sure its fragile.. But it'll survive most "minor" drops, and a few larger ones, if you're worried (like me) just buy a case?
This case is rated to withstand 6+ feet drops (I have it)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/NEXUS-BALLISTIC-SHELL-SERIES-Black/dp/B00B5SCDN8/
Its also on sale in the US and can be found here:
http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/lg-nexus-4-ballistic-shell-gel-sg-series-case
Its an amazing case, really worth the money.
Ballistic SG Case Worth it
I have the ballistic sg case and love it.
It is a bit bulky but the hard plastic back outer makes it feel good compared to all TPU or Silicon Cases.
Have dropped the phone from 4 ft several times onto hard flooring and concrete on the corner with no issues.
Cheers,
OldTimer
